The classification of observations based on repeated measurements performed on the same subject over a given period of time or under different conditions is a common procedure in many disciplines such as medicine, psychology and environmental studies. In this thesis repeated measurements follow the Growth Curve model and are classified using linear discriminant analysis. The aim of this thesis is both to examine the effect of missing data on classification accuracy and to examine the effect of additional data on classification robustness. This thesis discusses issues arising in the analysis of repeated measurement studies with missing data. The first part of the thesis is motivated by a study where continuous and bounded longitudinal data form the outcome of interest. The aim of this study is to investigate the change over time in the outcome variable and factors that influence this change. The analysis is complicated because some patients withdraw from the study, leading to an incomplete data set. We propose a non-linear mixed model that specifies the rate of change and the bounds of the outcome as a function of covariates. Th

Repeated measurement data or longitudinal data occur often in statistical applications. For example, in a clinical trial comparing the efficacy of a new treatment with that of a standard treatment, rather than measuring the main response variable only once on each patient, or subject, we can take several measurements over time on each subject. A Repeated measurement study differs from a longitudinal study. The latter generally refers to any study in which one or more response variables are repeatedly measured over time. The former usually imposes some restrictions on the data. One common restr

Longitudinal data, which is also known as repeated measures, has grown increasingly within the past years because of its ability to monitor change both within and between subjects. Statisticians in many fields of study have chosen this way of collecting data because it is cost effective and it minimizes the number of subjects required to produce a meaningful outcome. This thesis will explore the world of longitudinal studies to gain a thorough understanding of why this type of collecting data has grown so rapidly. The statistical analysis of repeated measures or longitudinal data always requires the accommodation of the covariance structure of the repeated measurements at some stage in the analysis. The general linear mixed model is often used for such analyses, and allows for the specification of both a mean model and a covariance structure. Often the covariance structure itself is not of direct interest, but only a means to producing valid inferences about the response. This thesis considers methods for the analysis of repeated measurements which arise from very small samples. In Part 1, existing meth

Despite the amount of research that has been conducted on self-injury there is a lack of empirically validated instruments with which to measure self-injurious behavior. Undergraduate students (n = 184) were administered a set of surveys to assess demographics, self-injurious behavior, suicidal ideation, Axis I and Axis II disorders, and impulsivity. Results indicated that a reliable measure, able to assess the extent of self-injury as well as associated features, was developed. Such a measure will enable
