Abstract:
A threat to external validity is any factor that limits the generalizability of an observed result. Unlike all threats to statistical conclusion and internal validities and some threats to construct validity, threats to external validity cannot ordinarily be controlled by design. Nor is there any disagreement on how threats to external validity should be controlled. In most instances, it can only be controlled by replication?—across subjects, situations and time frames. This seldom happens, unfortunately, because the academic incentive structure discourages replication. The contemporary “repro

This chapter reviews a series of replications of the studies reported in previous chapters on eight typologically distinct language pairs, making use of a wide array of phonological, morphological, and syntactic diagnostics (e.g., vowel harmony, word order, case-marking, adjectival expression, nominal determination patterns, verb incorporation strategies). Wherever a conflict site between donor and recipient languages could be determined, lone items were systematically shown to behave like the latter, often to the point of assuming the fine details of its variable quantitative conditioning. Abstract:
Pilgrimage is a global human phenomenon spanning cultures, religions, and continents. Some pilgrimage centres attract millions of pilgrims each year creating an important ‘spiritual tourism’ industry. ‘Pilgrimage around the world’ shows that some sites are not faith-specific; Jerusalem has great significance in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, and is a site of pilgrimage for all three. Not all pilgrimage places are internationally significant, however—many are essentially local in nature and involve replications of more famed and distant ones, allowing people who cannot travel far to simulate

Abstract:
Significant advances have been made in the treatment of antisocial and aggressive behavior (conduct disorder), a severe source of impairment among children and adolescents. Several psychosocial interventions with strong evidence in their behalf with children and adolescents are highlighted in the chapter. They include parent management training, multisystemic therapy, multidimensional treatment foster care, cognitively based treatments, functional family therapy, brief strategic family therapy, and the Good Behavior Game. The treatments have been very well studied, with multiple replications.

Abstract:
The (re)-production of an element or aspect of culture, here dubbed cultural “replication,” typically involves two distinguishable facets: copying and response. These two facets stimulate contrasting anthropological understandings of culture. Focusing on copying, older models look at culture through the lens of acquisition, viewing individuals within the group as sharing the same culture. The result is a monological understanding of culture; there is uniformity within the group, with group culture passed down across the generations. Newer models, in contrast, emphasize Bakhtinian dialogism, wi
