With the advances of technology and the popularization of mobile devices, the need of researching and discussing subjects related to mobile devices has raised. One of the subjects that needs to be further analyzed is data replication. This study investigates data replication on mobile devices focusing on power consumption. It presents four different scenarios that propose, describe, apply and evaluate data replication mechanisms, with the purpose of finding the best scenario that presents less energy consumption. In order to make the experiments, Sun SPOT was chosen as a mobile device. This de

Abstract:
To define the viral target sites of cellular permissive factors, simian virus 40-polyomavirus hybrid origins for DNA replication were formed by joining the auxiliary domain of one viral origin to the origin core of the other, and vice versa. The replicative capacity of these constructs were assessed in a number of mouse and monkey cell lines which express the large T antigen of polyomavirus or SV40. The results of this analysis showed that the auxiliary domains of the viral replication origins could substitute for one another in DNA replication, provided that the viral origin core and its cogn

Abstract:
UDDI registries are intended to become the world-wide lookup mechanism for web services. As such, they have to provide low response time, high throughput, high availability, and access to accurate data. Data replication is a key technology to satisfy such requirements. However, replication requires proper coordination of updates. Various replication strategies favor different subsets of the performance metrics. In this thesis, we have a closer look at two different replication strategies. One follows the UDDI specification; the other uses a middleware-based replication tool. We have integrated

In recent years, multi-tier architectures have become the standard computing environment for web- and enterprise applications. The application server tier is often the heart of the system embedding the business logic. Adaptability, in particular the capability to adjust to the load submitted to the system and to handle the failure of individual components, are of outmost importance in order to provide 7/24 access and high performance. Replication is a common means to achieve these reliability and scalability requirements. With replication, the application server tier consists of several server

Abstract:
This thesis is concerned with the performance modelling of data replication protocols. Data replication is used to provide fault tolerance and to improve the performance of a distributed system. Replication not only needs extra storage but also has an extra cost associated with it when performing an update. It is not always clear which algorithm will give best performance in a given scenario, how many copies should be maintained or where these copies should be located to yield the best performance. The consistency requirements also change with application. One has to choose these parameters to

Abstract:
Three-tier middleware architecture is commonly used for hosting large-scale distributed applications. Typically the application is decomposed into three layers: front-end, middle tier and back-end. Front-end ("Web server") is responsible for handling user interactions and acts as a client of the middle tier, while back-end provides storage facilities for applications. Middle tier (' Application server') is usually the place where all computations are performed, so this layer provides middleware services for transactions, security and so forth. The benefit of this architecture is that it allows
