The statistics provided by the United Nations Economic Commission (ECE) and the International Federation of Robotics (IFR) supply us with an up-to-date insight into the world robot market. This joint report tells us a great deal about the technological evolution of industrial robots since their introduction at the end of the 1960s. We know that real prices have declined, and the performance of robots is continuously improving. Robots are now in use in a wide range of applications in countries worldwide.

Abstract:
Literate programming is becoming increasingly trendy for data analysis because it allows the generation of dynamic-analysis reports for communicating data analysis and eliminates untraceable human errors in analysis reports. Traditionally, literate programming includes separate processes for compiling the code and preparing the documentation. While this workflow might be satisfactory for software documentation, it is not ideal for writing statistical analysis reports. Instead, these processes should run in parallel. In this article, I introduce the weaver package, which examines this idea by creating a new log system in HTML or LATEX that can be used simultaneously with the Stata log system. The new log system provides many features that the Stata log system lacks; for example, it can render mathematical notations, insert figures, create publication-ready dynamic tables, and style text, and it includes a built-in syntax highlighter. The weaver package also produces dynamic PDF documents by converting the HTML log to PDF or by typesetting the LATEX log and thus provides a real-time preview of the document without recompiling the code. I also discuss potential applications of the weaver package.

Abstract:
Abstract This article aims to challenge official statistics providers and statistics educators to ponder on how to help non-specialist adult users of statistics develop those aspects of statistical literacy that pertain to official statistics. We first document the gap in the literature in terms of the conceptual basis and educational materials needed for such an undertaking. We then review skills and competencies that may help adults to make sense of statistical information in areas of importance to society. Based on this review, we identify six elements related to official statistics about which non-specialist adult users should possess knowledge in order to be considered literate in official statistics: (1) the system of official statistics and its work principles; (2) the nature of statistics about society; (3) indicators; (4) statistical techniques and big ideas; (5) research methods and data sources; and (6) awareness and skills for citizens’ access to statistical reports. Based on this ad hoc typology, we discuss directions that official statistics providers, in cooperation with statistics educators, could take in order to (1) advance the conceptualization of skills needed to understand official statistics, and (2) expand educational activities and services, specifically by developing a collaborative digital textbook and a modular online course, to improve public capacity for understanding of official statistics.

Abstract:
Pisciculture of Ukraine, according to the head of the State Agency of Fisheries, is being reformed. At the same time, it is estimated that 60-70% of the fish industry is “in the shade”. Therefore, reliable information is needed, first of all - official statistics on the fish industry development in the country, which would be in line with European approaches. Being recognized as a separate area of economic activity to supply important food products for the population through their extraction from reservoirs, the fish industry should be represented by official statistics in the range of indicators provided for agricultural products. The purpose of the article is to reveal the results of the analysis of existing statistics on the extraction of water bioresources, with an accent on problem aspects, as well as developing proposals for improving the economic bloc of domestic statistics in this economic activity area. On the basis of the analysis of the available official statistic on the extraction of aquatic biological resources, including aquaculture, the problematic aspects of the economic block of indicators in the industry - costs and prices, are defined. It is also emphasized that both general and regional data on the number of business entities and water area are not available. Since 2016 official statistical information on the production of aquaculture is not provided, although earlier it was submitted in the thematic statistical collection; Administrative reports are now provided, but with all possible encumbrances. The proposals for improving the economic statistics on pisciculture are substantiated. A review of available statistics on the development of the pisciculture in Ukraine is provided. The comparative analysis of data by various forms of statistical reports, allowed to identify the problematic aspects of sectoral statistics Based on the results of the analysis, the proposals are maid to improve the economic statistics of the pisciculture in Ukraine. Taking into account the sectoral and statistical proposal will contribute to the formation of reliable data and transparency of this sector; allow to defend the need for its state support as an important part of the national economy

Abstract:
Data analysis and mathematical techniques play a central role in quantitative data processing. Quantitative researchers estimate (strength) the strength of the relationship of variables, and test hypotheses statistically. Unlike the case with qualitative research. Although qualitative researchers might test a hypothesis in the analysis process, they do not estimate or test hypotheses about the relationship of variables statistically. Through tests or statistical tests can be used as the main means for interpreting the results of research data. It is through this statistical test that we as researchers can compare which data groups and what can be used to determine probabilities or possibilities that distinguish between groups based on an opportunity. Thus, it can provide evidence to determine the validity of a hypothesis or conclusion. In this study, we will discuss the preparation of data for analysis such as editing data, coding, categorizing, and entering data. As well as discussing the differences in data analysis for descriptive statistics and inferential statistics, differences in data analysis for parametric and non-parametric statistics in research, explanations of multivariate data analysis procedures, and also forms of research hypotheses.

Full text
Abstract:
We propose a way to formalize the relationship between descriptive analysis and structural estimation. A researcher reports an estimate ĉ of a structural quantity of interest c that is exactly or asymptotically unbiased under some base model. The researcher also reports descriptive statistics γ ˆ that estimate features γ of the distribution of the data that are related to c under the base model. A reader entertains a less restrictive model that is local to the base model, under which the estimate ĉ may be biased. We study the reduction in worst‐case bias from a restriction that requires the reader's model to respect the relationship between c and γ specified by the base model. Our main result shows that the proportional reduction in worst‐case bias depends only on a quantity we call the informativeness of γ ˆ for ĉ. Informativeness can be easily estimated even for complex models. We recommend that researchers report estimated informativeness alongside their descriptive analyses, and we illustrate with applications to three recent papers.

Abstract:
Library statistics is an important and effective method of analyzing library activities and identifying problems, planning and forecasting. Reliability, accuracy, completeness and comparability of the data are the most significant provisions. In her earlier publication, the author identified several inaccuracies in annual statistical reports submitted by university libraries. To identify discrepancies in 2019 statistics, the comparative analysis was accomplished for Orel State academic libraries. The study demonstrated that sometimes the libraries didn’t provide accurate and precise statistics with lacking logical connection between the indicators presented in different report sections. Individual factors differ significantly despite similarity of other factors that influence the former ones. The author concludes on the necessity of measures to be taken by RLA university library section, library methodological divisions, and by the academic libraries themselves. For this purpose, the author suggests to develop methodological recommendations on calculating statistics, statistical surveying of academic libraries and implementing the methods into practice.

Abstract:
Statistics educators have long recognized the importance of empowering students with statistical thinking skills that could be applied beyond the classroom. However, there is a dearth of research on how students deem statistical topics as having practical future relevance after they complete introductory courses. Focusing on student interest in and perceived value of statistics, this study reports findings from a qualitative study that examined students’ written reflections to explore the nature and extent of the perceived future relevance of statistics among undergraduate students who completed a first-year introductory statistics course online. Findings show that students deemed statistics topics as important if they could be applied to their everyday lives or their academic- and career-related interests. We conclude with recommendations for instructors of introductory statistics courses that enroll students with diverse interests and goals. Abstract:
The accuracy of measuring the prevalence of delinquency by means of self-reported questionnaires is difficult to evaluate. This study assesses the differential validity of self-reported delinquency in adolescents and, more specifically, self-reported police contacts because of suspected misconduct. This study was conducted as part of the Rotterdam Youth Monitor, a youth health surveillance system. Self-report data of pupils (mainly 12–15 years old) in the first or third grade of secondary school in the school years 2007–8 and 2008–9 ( n = 23,914) were merged with police data. Of the pupils registered as a suspect, 62 percent admitted to having been interrogated at the police station. However, there were differences between groups. Multivariate analysis showed that Moroccan pupils and first-grade pupils were more likely to give an invalid response. Pupils who were registered for theft, vandalism or assault were more likely to give a valid response, whereas pupils who were registered for an offence involving fireworks were more likely to give an invalid response. We conclude that using only self-reported data to measure delinquency in an ethnically diverse population results in substantial bias. It is advisable to use multiple sources to measure the prevalence of delinquency.

The purpose of the study was to compare data on the cancer incidence rates for 2016 between the official reports on cancer statistics and federal cancer registry, collected in December 2018.Material and Methods. The study estimated the total data on 18 parameters from 35 regions of Russia, covering 66.3 million people (2016). The database of the Russian cancer registry and the database containing reports on the state cancer statistics were used. The cancer statistics/cancer registry ratio was assessed.Results. No differences in cancer incidence between the official reports on cancer statistics and cancer registry data were found. In the official reports on cancer statistics, the mortality rate, the proportion of posthumously recorded patients per 100 newly diagnosed, the proportion of deaths from diseases not related to cancer per 100 deceased patients, the cancer prevalence and the prevalence rate of unspecified malignant tumors were slightly reduced (to 10 %, 9 %, 5 %, and 4 %, respectively), and the rate of cancer detection, the proportion of histologically verified diagnoses and the proportion of cancers detected in stage III were increased (to 19 %, 10 % and 14 %, respectively) compared to those in cancer registry data.Conclusion. Improvement in the quality and completeness of information about cancer patients is associated rather with increasing the annual report length than with the need to improve the cancer registration system itself.

The research was conducted on mining companies listed in the Indonesian Stock Exchange in 2017. The number of samples on this research is 38 companies. The method of data collection used is non-technical sampling method with purposisive sampling. The analysis of the data analysis used is descriptive statistical analysis, model feasibility, multi-logistics regression analysis, and Walid statistics test. The analysis found that the quality of financial reports is negative in underinvestment and overinvestment conditions. The company's high quality financial report would result in a decrease in company probants that experienced underinvestment conditions compared to the company's probability in normal investment conditions. The quality of good financial reports can improve monitoring function for shareholders in monitoring investment decisions made by managers to avoid overinvestment conditions. Keywords: Investment efficiency, unverinvestment, overinvestment, the quality of financial report.

Abstract:
AbstractObjectiveWe evaluated the usefulness and accuracy of media-reported data for active disaster-related mortality surveillance.MethodsFrom October 29 through November 5, 2012, epidemiologists from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) tracked online media reports for Hurricane Sandy–related deaths by use of a keyword search. To evaluate the media-reported data, vital statistics records of Sandy-related deaths were compared to corresponding media-reported deaths and assessed for percentage match. Sensitivity, positive predictive value (PPV), and timeliness of the media reports for detecting Sandy-related deaths were calculated.ResultsNinety-nine media-reported deaths were identified and compared with the 90 vital statistics death records sent to the CDC by New York City (NYC) and the 5 states that agreed to participate in this study. Seventy-five (76%) of the media reports matched with vital statistics records. Only NYC was able to actively track Sandy-related deaths during the event. Moderate sensitivity (83%) and PPV (83%) were calculated for the matching media-reported deaths for NYC.ConclusionsDuring Hurricane Sandy, the media-reported information was moderately sensitive, and percentage match with vital statistics records was also moderate. The results indicate that online media-reported deaths can be useful as a supplemental source of information for situational awareness and immediate public health decision-making during the initial response stage of a disaster. The development of COUNTER usage statistics code of practice (de facto standard) during 2003–2016 is considered. It is demonstrated what issues in developing four successive versions of standard resulted in its substantial redesign fulfilled during 2016–2018 and implemented in COUNTER 5. New conceptual structure of COUNTER 5 (effective from January 1st, 2019) with its three components “objects — metrics — attributes” is described. New opportunities of statistical reports generation allowing to combine different attributes and metrics are analyzed. New standard reports are described and commented. Differences in summary statistics data compared to previous year data are explained. The importance of standardized usage data from content providers not COUNTER compliant yet is stressed.

Abstract:
Administrative offence and administrative liability occurs in the social life more often (proportionally) than criminal and civil liability. Several million cases of administrative liability are fixed in Ukraine each year. The official statistics bodies, acting in accordance with the rights and obligations determined by the norms of the special law on statistics, such as Article 14 of the Law of Ukraine “Official Statistics”, organize and conduct statistical observations of socio-economic and demographic processes in Ukraine and its regions, including ones on administrative offence in all the spheres of social life. The respective statistical information is provided to central and local power bodies. This information is required for them to implement their authorities in taking decisions on measures to prevent administrative offence. The main requirement to the statistical information on administrative offence is its quality. The quality of statistical information on administrative offence is largely conditional on the level at which it is collected. The components of its quality are accuracy, quickness, accessibility for further analysis and use. The appropriate quality of information can be ensured today only by means of computerized technologies based on personified data about offenders, sphere of administrative offence and details of administrative offence. These technologies widen the possibilities for collection, processing, checking and utilization of the information. This enables to move from narrow indicators reflecting isolated areas to ones with the full coverage of information about administrative offence, allowing for comprehensive analyses of statistical information at all the phases of its collection: prevention of offence, committing offence, administrative sanction, execution of decisions on administrative sanction etc. The official statistical information on administrative offence is used by many categories of users with various needs and demands: scientists, central and local power officials, employees of control agencies, law enforcement agencies and judiciary. Because it is hard or impossible to meet the needs of all the users at the same time, there is a pressing need in measuring the quality of statistical information on administrative offence by making quality reports. Quality reports are the main source of informing the users on the quality of statistical information, including the one on administrative offence.

Abstract:
Research is of little use if its results are not effectively communicated. Data visualised in tables (and graphs) are key components in any scientific report, but their design leaves much to be desired. This article focuses on table design, following two general principles: clear vision and clear understanding. Clear vision is achieved by maximising the signal to noise ratio. In a table, the signal is the data in the form of numbers, and the noise is the support structure necessary to interpret the numbers. Clear understanding is achieved when the story in the data is told effectively, through organisation of the data and use of text. These principles are illustrated by original and improved tables from recent publications. Two special cases are discussed separately: tables produced by the pharmaceutical industry (in clinical study reports and reports to data safety monitoring boards), and study flow diagrams as proposed by the Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials and Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses initiatives.

Abstract:
Statistics education has the potential to assist students to develop their identities and engage in problems and social contexts that assist in empowering them to act politically in the future. The actions and narrative reported in this paper seek to identify the way in which teachers could develop and implement statistical inquiries that utilize aspects of creative insubordination to enhance student learning experiences. This paper reports on two students who were supported to produce information and act politically on a problem founded in their social and cultural context. Reported practices in this research involved inquiry tasks that promoted collaborative exploration of ideas, data analysis, and reporting. Results evidence that teaching statistics through projects that focus on the development of political actions, Creative Insubordination, have the potential to improve students’ statistical skills. As a consequence, the students were able to go beyond being data producers and data consumers to being statisticians and political activists, a shift necessary for students to understand how data can be used to transform their lives and those of others. Abstract:
Annotation. Ischemic heart disease (IHD) is one of the main causes of high mortality, disability and a decrease in the quality of life of the working-age population (WAP) in Ukraine. Aim of the work: to determine the modern features of mortality, disability, prevalence and incidence of ischemic heart disease in the working-age population of the Kyiv region. The analysis of the epidemiology of IHD in the Kyiv region was carried out in dynamics for 2010–2019 and compared to Ukraine. The statistical data of the State Statistics Committee of Ukraine, the Center for Medical Statistics of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, and the Kyiv Regional Center for Medical Statistics on mortality, disability, prevalence and incidence of IHD in the working-age population of the Kyiv region were analyzed with the medical-statistical method. It has been established that IHD is a significant cause of the loss of labor potential in the Kyiv region. IHD accounts for every fourth (25.0%) death in the working age, and the regional level of working-age population mortality from IHD is the highest in Ukraine. In the Kyiv region working-age population dies from ischemic heart disease 1.5–1.7 times, and from myocardial infarction – 1.7–1.9 times more often than the average in Ukraine. Regional levels of incidence IHD among working-age population exceed similar indicators in Ukraine by 1.2 times, the incidence of myocardial infarction – 1.5 times, the prevalence of ischemic heart disease – 1.7 times. Identified unfavorable dynamic trends in mortality and prevalence of IHD among the working-age population of the Kyiv region. The mortality rate from IHD among working-age population increased in the Kyiv region in 2019 compared to 2010, by 7.9%. The prevalence of IHD increased during 2010–2018 by 14.4%, and the primary incidence of myocardial infarction – by 14.9%. The unfavorable epidemiological situation with IHD among working-age population in the Kyiv region necessitates improving the system for the prevention and the organization of medical care for patients with IHD in this region.

Abstract:
How does the student untrained in advanced statistics interpret results of research that reports a group difference? In two studies, statistically untrained college students were presented with abstracts or professional associations’ reports and asked for estimates of scores obtained by the original participants in the studies. These estimates were converted to inferred effect sizes and compared with the actual effect sizes. Inferred effect sizes substantially overestimated actual effect sizes for all reports, a phenomenon dubbed the tall-tale effect. The effect was obtained with a variety of reports and statistics. The tall-tale effect could be controlled somewhat with simple changes in wording. This finding suggests a program of research which would better calibrate inferences with those actually obtained in the research. This scientific and information review provides insight into the contents and nature of some questions and matters of national statistics as noted in the reports of statisticians - academics and practitioners at the meeting of Statistics Section of the Central House of Scientists of the Russian Academy of Sciences (CDU RAS) in 2018-2019. The Section covered a wide range of topics which could be grouped (although this grouping is somewhat relative) into three focus areas in modern Russian statistics discussed in the 2018-2019 season at the Central House of Scientists: I. Theoretical and practical aspects associated with conducting statistical observations, II. Development issues of macroeconomic statistics and III. Application of international statistical standards to Russian conditions. In these respective areas, debates focused on the results of the 2016 Russian Census of agriculture, optimization of the organizational structure of the 2020 Russian Population Census based on the results of the 2018 Pilot Population Census, fundamental principles of consumer price monitoring and calculating the consumer price index in today’s Russian statistics. Topics of methodological support of statistics on non-financial economic assets, improving the quality of GDP estimates based on the development of annual supply and use tables, the subject matter of innovation statistics triggered heated discussions amongst the practitioners and theoreticians who participated actively in the meetings. Finally, the Section reviewed matters of adopting international statistical standards to suit Russian conditions, in particular, the practical implementation of the Resolution concerning statistics of work, employment, and labor underutilization and Russian issues of international banking statistics.

Abstract:
Abstract. This paper describes the effect of missing sounding reports on temperature and pressure mean values for mandatory levels using the aerological information from the Camagüey Meteorological Centre. Also it is described the effect of missing data on mean temperature and pressure values at the multiple tropopause levels. The case study belongs to one station for a time lag of eight years. Up to the present these types of studies have been conducted using simulated datasets. The present one uses a real inhomogeneous radiosonde dataset. The main reason for missing reports were transmission problems and possible encoding-decoding difficulties. It has been found that profiles of the mean temperature and altitude show little differences between the complete and incomplete datasets. Moreover, no statistical significant differences were found for the mean values of the variables for the complete and incomplete datasets. The most probable reason for those results is that the cause of the missing reports has a random behaviour. Finally we have found that the only two effects noticed on the statistics were slightly higher values of the mean temperatures in the complete dataset and the decrease in the percent of multiple tropopause reports for the incomplete dataset.

Abstract:
The central argument of Alessandro Stanziani’s article “European Statistics, Russian Numbers and Social Dynamics, 1861–1914”—that statistical data is socially constructed, and that the ways in which it is socially constructed should be an object of historical inquiry—helps to answer the question of why an archival researcher with literary inclinations should take note of the mass of statistical material produced throughout the nineteenth century and especially in its final decades. Statistical reports were regularly published in overtly literary publications such as Faddei Bulgarin’s Northern Bee (Северная пчела) from the 1820s onward. Vissarion Belinskii, one of the preeminent Russian literary critics of the 1830s–1840s, reviewed statistical works alongside literary fiction, poetry, and theater. In a review of a theory of statistics, he weighed in on the importance of the discipline and its place among other sciences

Abstract:
Annonanion. The purpose of the work is to determine and analyze the incidence and prevalence of diseases in the population of Ukraine in comparison with the EU countries, to analyze the determinants of health and to develop prevention measures for this problem. The materials of the study were statistical data of the State Statistics Service of Ukraine and the Center for Medical Statistics of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine for 1995–2018, Forms №18 of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine “Report on the control of environmental factors affecting public health” for 2008–2016. The work used content analysis of domestic and foreign scientific sources, bibliosemantic, analytical and statistical research methods. It is established that for the period from 1995 to 2017, the incidence rates of the population of Ukraine decreased by 18.2% and prevalence by 12.0%. The first place is occupied by diseases of the circulatory system — 52.1% and 50.2%; second place — respiratory diseases, this figure is constant and is 8.1%; third place belongs to diseases of the digestive system — 9.4% and 10.1%, respectively, in 2010 and 2017. The epidemic of tuberculosis in Ukraine was recognized by the WHO from 1995 to 2005 (21.5/39.5 thousand 1995/2005 diagnosis established for the first time). The growth rate was +32.9% (1995/2005), then it gradually decreased and in 2018 the growth rate was 28.5% (1995/2018). According to statistics, annually 170 thousand people are diagnosed with cancer, up to 90 thousand patients die from this disease, 35-37% of whom are people of working age. Thus, in Ukraine, diseases of the circulatory system, malignant neoplasms, injuries and poisonings are in the lead in the structure of causes of death; in the structure of morbidity — respiratory diseases, circulatory diseases; cause concern about HIV and tuberculosis, as well as the prevalence of mental disorders of organic origin and bad habits. We consider it necessary to take measures to improve the state of health care in the framework of the issues raised by modernization and staffing of health care facilities in Ukraine with modern equipment with improved material and technical base and increased funding; introduction of a single electronic system for the exchange of medical information; timely and regular preventive examinations of the population; the use of various forms of educating the population on the formation of a healthy lifestyle in the absence of television advertising that carries harmful information.

Abstract:
Abstract A source of survey processing error that has received insufficient study to date is the misclassification of open-ended responses. We report on efforts to understand the misclassification of open occupation descriptions in the Current Population Survey (CPS). We analyzed double-coded CPS descriptions to identify which features vary with intercoder reliability. One factor strongly related to reliability was the length of the occupation description: longer descriptions were less reliably coded than shorter ones. This effect was stronger for particular occupation terms. We then carried out an experiment to examine the joint effects of description length and classification “difficulty” of particular occupation terms. For easy occupation terms longer descriptions were less reliably coded, but for difficult occupation terms longer descriptions were slightly more reliably coded than short descriptions. Finally, we observed as coders provided verbal reports on their decision making. One practice, evident in coders’ verbal reports, is their use of informal coding rules based on superficial features of the description. Such rules are likely to promote reliability, though not necessarily validity, of coding. To the extent that coders use informal rules for long descriptions involving difficult terms, this could help explain the observed relationship between description length and difficulty of coding particular terms.

Abstract:
At present, the study of the peculiarities of the reproductive history of patients planning pregnancy is considered to be a promising area for the effective ensuring the timely and highly successful implementation of their reproductive intentions. Goal — to conduct an analytical retrospective assessment of the reproductive history of patients with childbirth in the pelvic presentation. A retrospective analysis of medical records has been conducted on the basis of the Odessa Regional Perinatal Center, medical records of 300 primipara and secundipara with pregnancy with one fetus in the breech presentation have been studied: I — the main group (MG) (n=150), women who gave birth in the pelvic presentation; ІІ — control group (CG) (n=150), women who gave birth in the cephalic presentation. Statistical processing of the results of the study was carried out using the statistical packages of the program Statistica for Windows (version 6.1) by the means of parametric and nonparametric statistics. The study of submitted medical documents showed a statistically less favorable gynecological history of women from MG: while the majority of women with MG were multipara — 96 (64%), in CG, the number of patients was lower — 67 (44.6%) cases (p<0.05). The number of cases of urgent labor in the MG — 137 (91.3%) was greater than in the control group — 118 (78.7%) (p <0.05). The frequency of operative birth in MG was 102 (68%) cases compared to 44 (29.3%) (p<0.05) in CG. The operative birth in CG occurred only in 5 (11.4%) cases, whereas in MG there were 13 cases (100%) (p<0.05). Therefore, the prevalence of cases of operative delivery and less amount of cases of preterm births have been indicated in MG.

This paper aims to reflect on the teaching of statistics through student research, in the form of projects carried out by students on self-selected topics. The paper reports on a study carried out with two undergraduate classes using a methodology of teaching that we call ‘learning projects’. Monitoring the development of the various stages of the learning projects allowed continuous adjustment of the process and provided an insight into the benefits and limitations of this approach. Important aspects included the complexity of the group relationships, the importance of choosing the topic of the research, data collection and time management. Students carried out an evaluation of the process, and the resulting information was analysed using quantitative and qualitative approaches.
