Full textIn the first part of the thesis we give a construction of a basis of the positive part f of the Drinfeld-Jimbo quantum enveloping algebra associated with a Dynkin quiver. This basis is given in terms of parity sheaves over fields in any characteristic. We also categorify both the multiplication and the comultiplication of f via complexes of sheaves. The second part deals with Koszul duality. Stroppel and Webster have introduced a grading on the cyclotomic q-Schur algebra S. We prove that the obtained graded algebra is graded Morita equivalent to a Koszul algebra. The proof is based on a result of Rouquier, Shan, Varagnolo and Vasserot that identifies the category mod(S) with a subcategory of an affine parabolic category O of type A. This subcategory admits a Koszul grading constructed by Shan, Varagnolo and Vasserot. We identify this Koszul grading with the grading on mod(S). In the third part of the thesis we study a categorical representation in the parabolic category O for affine gl(N) at level -N-e. This category admits a structure of a categorical representation of affine sl(e) with respect to some functors E and F. This category contains a smaller category A that caregorifies the higher level Fock space. We prove that the functor F for the category A at level -N-e can be decomposed in terms of the components of the functor F for the category A at level -N-e-1. To prove this, we construct an isomorphism between the KLR algebra associated with the cyclic quiver with e vertices and a subquotienl of the KLR algebra associated with the cyclic quiver with e+1 vertices

Full textThis thesis investigates the joint modeling of visual and textual content of multimedia documents to address cross-modal problems. Such tasks require the ability to match information across modalities. A common representation space, obtained by eg Kernel Canonical Correlation Analysis, on which images and text can be both represented and directly compared is a generally adopted solution.Nevertheless, such a joint space still suffers from several deficiencies that may hinder the performance of cross-modal tasks. An important contribution of this thesis is therefore to identify two major limitations of such a space. The first limitation concerns information that is poorly represented on the common space yet very significant for a retrieval task. The second limitation consists in a separation between modalities on the common space, which leads to coarse cross-modal matching. To deal with the first limitation concerning poorly-represented data, we put forward a model which first identifies such information and then finds ways to combine it with data that is relatively well-represented on the joint space. Evaluations on emph{text illustration} tasks show that by appropriately identifying and taking such information into account, the results of cross-modal retrieval can be strongly improved. The major work in this thesis aims to cope with the separation between modalities on the joint space to enhance the performance of cross-modal tasks. We propose two representation methods for bi-modal or uni-modal documents that aggregate information from both the visual and textual modalities projected on the joint space. Specifically, for uni-modal documents we suggest a completion process relying on an auxiliary dataset to find the corresponding information in the absent modality and then use such information to build a final bi-modal representation for a uni-modal document. Evaluations show that our approaches achieve state-of-the-art results on several standard and challenging datasets for cross-modal retrieval or bi-modal and cross-modal classification

Full textThe thesis takes as its point of departure the Jordan decomposition theorem and traces its evolution over the sixty-year period from its statement by Camille Jordan in 1870 to 1930 and the emergence of the theory of canonical matrices. A historical analysis of this particular theorem serves as a lens not only on internal developments of the evolving mathematics discipline of algebra but also on the external developments of mathematics as an internationalizing discipline in the decades around the turn of the twentieth century. The thesis draws from the study of networks of sources in order to analyze the theorem's transformation from a result in nineteenth-century group theory to one in the new twentieth century area of linear algebra, while, at the same time, the thesis explores issues of community formation and the role of tacit knowledge in the evolution of mathematical methods. The thesis will focus on a history the decomposition of matrices as a method of decomposition of a particular form of representation
Thibault, Joan. "Introduction to structure theory and its application to boolean functions." Electronic Thesis or Diss., Université de Rennes (2023-....), 2024. http://www.theses.fr/2024URENS104.
Full textThis dissertation introduces and formalizes the notion of structures as a mathematically sound way to capture various patterns in several domains across sciences. We introduce the notion of structure-based representations as essentially trees or directed acyclic graphs (DAG) of structures. The overall semantics is the composition of the individual structures which allows for inductive and modular reasoning. We formalize the intuitive notions of inductive representations and inductively canonical representations. We prove that the latter are, somewhat, equivalent to canonical structure-based representations. We study necessary and/or sufficient conditions under which structure-based representations are canonical, highlighting the need for a notion of "structural confluence" that was not formalized in previous work and for which we formalize several approximations in this dissertation. Structural confluence allows us to avoid various pitfalls associated with the usual (rewriting-rule oriented) notion of confluence, in particular, the difficulty to generally prove (or disprove) it without further assumptions. We apply our theoretical results to the case of Boolean functions. We show that our theory not only unifies most variants of Binary Decision Diagrams but also suggests new ones in a principled way. We briefly discuss their implementation and encouraging experimental results supporting our claim that structure-based representations are designed for practical use

Full textMotivated by the study of relationships between gene expressions and other biological variables, our work consists in presenting and developing a methodology answering this problem. Among the statistical methods treating this subject, Canonical Analysis (CA) seemed well adapted, but the high dimension is at present one of the major obstacles for the statistical techniques of analysis data coming from microarrays. Typically the axis of this work was the research of solutions taking into account this crucial aspect in the implementation of the CA. Among the approaches considered to handle this problem, we were interested in the methods of regularization. The method developed here, called Regularised Canonical Analysis (RCA), is based on the principle of ridge regularization initially introduced in multiple linear regression. RCA needing the choice of two parameters of regulation for its implementation, we proposed the method of M-fold cross-validation to handle this problem. We presented in detail RCA applications to high multidimensional data coming from genomic studies as well as to data coming from other domains. Among other we were interested in a visualization of the data in order to facilitate the interpretation of the results. For that purpose, we proposed some graphical methods: representations of variables (correlations graphs), representations of individuals as well as alternative representations as networks and heatmaps. .

Full textIn this thesis we study geometric Satake correspondance. First we identify the intersection form throught the correspondance. It equals a contravariant form twisted by Schützenberger's involution. Then we use a combinatoric conjecture to demonstrate the compatibility of the Mirkovic and Vilonen basis with the Schützenberger involution. We demonstrate this conjecture for the sl2 case. The combinatoric tools created to demonstrate this conjecture allow us to demonstrate that the dual semicanonical basis semicanonique duale equals the generalized Mirovic et Vilonen basis

Full textFrom Michelet’s definition of the Renaissance and its literary productions in 1855 to the actual discourse of high school textbooks, this dissertation reveals the process by which a canonical representation of 16th century French Literature, as well as a canonical form of this literature, are built and shared. The study is based on a wide range of school textbooks, from Gustave Lanson’s Histoire de la littérature française to textbooks published in 2011, as well as literary anthologies from the first half of the 20th century and the famous Lagarde et Michard published from the 1940’s until the 1980’s.The form in which 16th century authors and their work are represented in these textbooks and anthologies indicates that several mechanisms contributed to bringing out the idea of a « literary century » which was organized by an institutional selection of texts on one hand, and, on the other hand, by the circulation of a doxa about both the writers and their writing. Therefore, as this discussion underlines the construction of classical representations for each of the most represented authors, it also establishes that these figures tend to create an overarching canonical representation of the century, as well as a canonical corpus for this time period. This canonical representation and its corpus take shape as a hierarchical construction, within which each author and literary work are given a specific place. This place thus determines the ranking of the writers in the canonical space, which cannot easily be changed, as the canon turns out to be quite identical throughout the length of the study. On the contrary, the institutional representations seem to evolve during the 20th century, and so the « 16th century » of Lanson proves to be quite different in its discursive form than the one of the current textbooks. Moreover, the canonical « idea » of a 16th century in French Literature is linked to the development of French literary history and its institutional goals. Thus, this idea has to be put in perspective with the ideological values which are meant to be transmitted by the national school curricula, from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 21st. This reveals that the notion of a « literary century » is essentially a historical construction, a narrative that ought to be questioned in order to understand its presuppositions and the values that inform its construction

Full textSince the beginning of the first dynasties, the pictogram in writing was the extension of naturalistic figurative representations, logograms in the decorated funerary protodynastic palettes. This statement carry us to link them with the parietal art of Neolithic Nubia, the egyptian Predynastic, and peripheral cultural areas. We have reconsidered the petroglyphs as polysemic symbols and ideograms, i.e. mythograms as well polysemic logograms-phonograms, allowing us to draw up a structural system of symbolic representations, universal in the Nile valley. Basically funerary, the system is organised around a new reading in connection with the founding of the ‘Eye of Horus’/solar myths, and express itself in primitive Neolithic and Predynastic rites of revivification, rebirth, more explicit afterwards during the first dynasties on labels, votive cylinder-seals, and anointing the deads with the seven holy canonical oils, finally in the Pyramid Texts. Contrary to the common idea which opposite the Nature-Culture notions, there is some question to combine them, to reconcile the non-binary duality and to see, for example, the heliotrope functions and/or heliophore animals of the sub-Saharan bestiary, with Sokar the funerary hawk, the benevolent guarantors for the rebirth and metamorphosis of the sun/deads; otherwise felids, canids, antelopes…, invested by the numinous of the protecting divinities. In consequence of a new reading of the primitive ‘osirian’ myth of metamorphosis, we have reconsidered the conceptions about animal sacrifice on the basis of religious anthropology. Far from bringing under control and submission of nature, and diffusionnism, the intercultural (cross-cultural) of the first archaic mythic thought in the multi-ethnic nubian-egyptian valley and associated neighbouring areas involves, towards the natural world and the numinous spiritual strengths, the cross-cultural of solar conceptions and multicultural, trans-historic sharing of the polycyclic resurrectional believes. Thus, the animal petroglyphs, cynegetic scenes, boats and sandals representations, etc., are of funerary votive, apotropaic nature

Full textAccording to France’s social and moral norms of the nineteenth and early twentieth century, newlywed couples were expected to have sexual intercourse, thus consummating their union, on the first night following the wedding ceremony. The permanent aspect of this requirement persisted, although wedding norms and practices were being redefined, through the establishment of the civil marriage during the French Revolution, with the increasing ideal of the bourgeois marriage, with social and religious debates over the right to get a divorce before reintroducing it in 1884 and with the slow sexual revolution gaining momentum from the Belle Époque onwards. The aim of this dissertation is to demonstrate how the wedding night gradually became a pivotal event in the married couple’s life from the 1800s to the 1920s. It will delineate the norms, the representations and the practices of this social fact which affected almost the entire French population at that time. I will study varied sources in order to comprehend the multifaceted aspect of such a particular and intimate moment in the conjugal life: from cultural and scientific productions (such as fictional works, images, essays, medical works and folklore studies) to canonical procedures comprising narratives of the wedding night by separating spouses. Three lines of research will be examined in this study: (1) the veil of secrecy about wedding night practices which relied on discourses that were addressed differently to men and women; (2) the traditions associated with the nuptial rituals. Over the course of the century, such rituals have been reshaped by the changing values of the bourgeois marriage. Finally, it will be argued that consummating the union was both (3) a moral and physical ordeal, particularly for the brides

The article 9 of the ECHR and its jurisprudential development create conditions for the existence of a de facto European ecclesiastical law. In addition, the Declaration 11 annexed to the Amsterdam Treaty, the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union and the Lisbon Treaty are the foundations of an Ecclesiastical law of the Union from the perspective of a more advanced convergence. The contribution of the Orthodox Church to the European construction is considered indispensable through representations of the locally established Orthodox Churches, within the European Union and its ecclesiastical tradition
