Full textOur thesis contemplates the connection between art criticism and poetic expression in the work of Bernard Noël. This thesis is articulated in three parts and it analyses how the prose d'idées artistiques of the poet is melted with his imaginary and his lyrics of eyes and body. Our research is led by a representativeness intent and it follows some significant thematic through the work of Bernard Noël. The two preliminary parts are based on a selection of art criticism. In the first part the writings about Ramon Alejandro and François Luven give us the opportunity to go back to the genealogy in Bernard Noël work. In the same part we examine the critics regarding Magritte, Matisse and Masson which turned out crucial to the author's poetic process. Then we contemplate, through the texts about Télémaque, Klasen, Debré and Wou-Ki, figuration end abstraction as movements one opposite to the other. The second part of the thesis engages art criticism and poetic. The progression of the analysis allows to recall some issues of the previous section. The critics addressed to Moninot, Fred Deux, Moreau, David and Géricault are treated in a more specific way to and mixed with elements which constitute author’s personal poetic (body representation, body and mind opposition, painting-writing connection). Bernard Noël's poetic practice is the subject of the third part: here we try to reveal not only the versified expressions use, especially in the poems inspired by plastic art works (graphics, paintings or sculpture), but also the principles of collaboration which stand above the books of dialogue with the contemporary artists.Through the analysis of the work of Bernard Noël we can examine the concept of realism in the french painting, the surrealist period, the abstraction movement after the war or the new figuration movement. Our corpus, which claims not to be exhaustive, is made by monographs of important painters and by texts of exposition catalogues. It includes art, poems and figure books since it is true that the place of painting and sculpture it’s central in Bernard Noël’s work as his relationship with art which influences his existence, aesthetics, even political view of society and of the world

Full textThe studies of diachronic allow us to study the changes and analyze the regularities in the change to understand the faculty of language. We are interested in the origin, orthographic, etymology, phonology, lexicology and morphology of the Malay language. It is a qualitative study using descriptive and comparative methodology for analyzing the corpus. Formalization is a field of automation and simplification of language law without disturbing the language grammatical rules for the application in the field of natural language processing. By passing the morphonology and the morphology, we are able to look clearly into the structure and the mechanism of the Malay grammar in the search for a solution for the affix-lexical combination. This study allows us to understand clearly the internal structure of allomorph, verbal and nominal derivation from Malay verbs in helping us to formulate the model of natural language processing or as an equipment of pedagogy by a schema and the rules. We are presenting the correlation between verbs and the system of derivation by using a study of linguistic-statistic by showing and explaining the situation of Malay linguistic. The result of the statistics and the corpus show us the reliability of our model because there is a coherence between result and the model

Full textThis thesis examines the expression of spatial relations in a complex verbal task. Subjects were of four types : native speakers and advanced learners of french and italian, who performed a picturedescription task. A systematic comparison of the productions of these four groups allows the following research questions to be addressed : - the role of the referential domains of space and entities in the speaker's construction of this discourse-type; - characteristic differences in the conceptualisation and expression of spatial relations between learners and native speakers; - characteristic differences in the conceptualisation and expression of spatial relations between speakers of closelyrelated languages (french & italian), and possible transfert effects from french into learner italian, and from italian into learners french. An investigation of these questions contributes furthermore to a more explicit characterisation of descriptive discourse, on the one hand, and of the intermediate and advanced stages of second language acquisition, on the other

Full textAre perceptions of a nation, held within the collective unconsciousness, closely related to the extent to which the language of that nation may spread ? Such is the research question which lies at the heart of this study and which led to an evaluation of the position of the French language in Northern Italy. The investigation, carried out on a representative sample of the population by means of a questionnaire, a word association test and individual interviews, led to an examination of the importance accorded to languages and language learning and to the uncovering of various perceptions associated with the french language. The data were analysed, taking into consideration the specific sociological context of the sample from which they were obtained. Special attention was accorded to the linguistic context in Italy, where a bilingual and or diglossic situation prevails, and to the school system in which the study of a single foreing language is compulsory. Considering the issues primarily from a multilingual perspective, it was possible to propose suggestions concerning a renewal of French language planning in Italy

Full textThe initiation theme is modified when it iq taken in charge by the writing. We certainly can recognize the initiatory scenario in its whole in the narration. Nevertheless, it seems that the writing vocation is at variance with the initiation one. In fact the ritual order of the transition between the childhood to the adult age is modified : the inversion wich affects it, leads to an unconfessed request of the childhood and the lost heaven. That is why the writing tries to rehabilitate in a hidden way a female face repressed for too long time. The myth request and the oral speech are only a meaning to refind the request of the mother. Therefore, more than a rebirth, it is basically an "inside birth" that the initiation claims throught the african literature

Full textThis thesis investigates the increased interest in learning Italian at primary school level in Lorraine, whose migration background has contributed to shaping its present social structure marked by a wide cultural and linguistic diversity. The role currently played by Italian in the educational setting in Lorraine, with a focus on its transformation from ethnic language to foreign language, and then to an assumingly new ‘lingua franca’, is analysed by reconstructing the relationship between the historical and socio-demographic patterns of the past Italian migration flows in Lorraine and of the slowly gained status by the Italian language within the French institutions, In the context of students’ already varied multilingual repertoires, the role played by Italian is investigated in terms of its contribution to young people’s need to develop symbolic belonging and identity, and also to social integration.Drawing from the theories of foreign language learning and sociolinguistics, attention is focused on the relationship between linguistic and social facts. The notion of representation observed in the investigated sample with reference to the identity-building role played by the language enables to identify the reasons behind the choice to learn Italian both by children of Italian origins and others mainly with an immigrant background in the wake of the recent migration waves, who are experiencing difficulties in integrating into the French society.Following an inductive-interpretative approach, the research process is based on data collection and in-depth analysis in a specific context, then gradually extended to the varied geographical and socio-economic situations of the entire region, with the aim of comparing data collected at micro-level with a wider reality. This research concludes that Italian has gained the status of a new ‘lingua franca’ providing for freedom of expression and enhancing the personal identity-building process, for the benefit of both children of distant Italian origins – who are thus able to trace back their roots and identify with the positive reputation enjoyed by this language – and of children whose families have recently settled in France mainly from countries under the former colonial empire. The latter, in particular, have come to consider Italian as their adoptive language helping them to improve their social status and to better integrate in their host country

Full textPopular metalinguistic comments published between 1995 and 2005 in national and regional newspapers and on the Internet since 1995 are analyzed within the epistemological framework of American folk linguistics and throughout the prism of the three concepts of attitude, prédiscours and epistemic trust. All language marks and discursive processes being analyzed (enunciation, generic questions, forms of deixis, epistemic modalities, metaphors etc. ) show how far the writers at the prédiscursif level share a set of values, practices and knowledge in order to create a highly consensual discourse, self-evident and objective among all members of the linguistic community. This prédiscusif sharing allows recognition by all speakers of the same authorities on French language and, hence, it constitutes the condition thanks to which linguistic knowledge can persist in time and enter into the common sense of a linguistic community. This is also shown by taking into account the status of linguistic and specialized knowledge in folk-linguistic comments : as we’ll demonstrate, scientific references are often subject to suspicion due to the lack of sharing of specialized prédiscours on language

Full textThe semantic value of the 16 "primary" classifiers of Aadamaawa fulfulde (Cameroon, Nigeria, Cra, Tchad) is analysed within the theoretical framework of enunciative linguistics developed by Antoine Culiodi. The full nominal (fn) is interpreted as participating in two representational levels : 1) it is a level-ii representation (language production materialized through text) resulting from locating relationship between a term belonging to the lexical units class (base units) and a term belonging to the markers class (classifiers); 2) this fn is then a trace of level-i process (mental representations); the operation consists of determinating an abstract occurrences class defined by fundamental properties which mainly are : (a) continuous; (b) discrete (or discontinuous); (c) dense; (d) compact. The analysis of fn from this point of view makes it possible to distinguish two ranges of classifiers : 1) classifiers which mark scanning operations through the notional domain of a base unit : (a) scanning without individuation (smooth scanning) operated by the indefinite classifier -d'um, and by the continuous non discreted classifier - d'am; (b) scanning with individuation (granular scanning) operated by the indeterminate plural classifier -d'e, and by the determinate plural classifier -d'i ; 2) the classifiers which isolate a particular value and which works as extractors : (a) serial units extractors (-nde, -ndu, -ndi); continuous units extractors (-ngo, -ngal, ngol, -ngu, -nge); (c) mass units extractors (-ko, -ki, -ka, -kal)

Full textWhat does learning a foreign language mean? Does it also mean, among other things, learning another way of being? Starting from the view that “a language is a view on the world” and that “saying is acting and interacting,” the present thesis proposes to approach the answer through a study of time, of which the notion is at once general and culture-specific. How do the Chinese and the French cultures represent, conceptualize, and use the notion of time ? The thesis starts with a review of the notion of time in the traditions of culture and philosophy, follows this up with a comparison of expressions of time in the two languages, continues through observation and analysis of the problem of time in communication events, and concludes with an analysis of how such problems are presented and dealt with in French textbooks currently used in China. It is hoped that the discoveries made and problems revealed in such a study will help enrich the discourse on the theory of foreign language teaching and learning, which in turn will lead to new solutions and open up new prospects

Full textThe aim of this thesis is to propose a formal (metalinguistic) representation of the different uses of should, in modern english, within an utterercentered approach, and to examine how this study can contribute to a possible automatic processing of the modal, in context. Its aim is also to bring out the particular status of should in comparison with shall, must or ought to, for example, and to understand the interplay of epistemic and root modalities that allows should, in its "ambiguous" uses. It appears that the difference between should and shall, must or ought to is essentially qualitative. Besides, the different possible ambiguities in the interpretation of should can be explained, in each case, by the specific characteristics of its fonctioning (positive valuation, particularities of its deontic origin, etc. . ) concerning the contribution to a possible automatic processing, the bringing out of these characteristics can be of importance within a work of automatic comprehension of texts. But, on the syntactic point of view, on the contrary, it appears extremely difficult to determine automatically the value of the modal

Full textIn view of the predominant use of the English language in the international communication, the development of translation aids has become a fundamental issue. In this project, we present the advantages of knowledge-based machine translation in the constitution of translation aids. This translation principle aims at extracting and representing the meaning of information in the source language as a preliminary step to reformulation this meaning in a target language. After defining knowledge that is required for interpreting the meaning of information (interlinguistic and intralinguistic knowledge), we identify it in a corpus of economic documents. In our syntactico-semantic approach, we emphasize the necessary combination of inter and intralinguistic knowledge for source language analysis. The meaning of information is then modelled into a conceptual graph structure, thus enabling the reformulation of information in a target language, in a bilingual or multilingual context
Azouzi, Ammar. "Nomination, représentation de soi et des autres dans quelques discours de langue française en Tunisie." Montpellier 3, 2006. http://www.theses.fr/2006MON30013.
Full textDuring the French protectorship in Tunisia, the French that are settled in Tunisia, Tunisian Nationalists and Jews have, each of them, established a set of discourses in the field of politics, press and literature in French language. The nominations of the I and Others that are made widespread derive from the representation that makes of the subject of discourse himself and his community as well as the Others representative of the relationships or rapport between the members of the three communities. The nominations and the representations of the I and the Others are analysed in the frame of the discourses that make them widespread. Discourse analysis and nominations can never be dissociated. The meaning of nominations in discourse allows to find out referentials of the French settled in Tunisia, the native arabo-musulman and Jews. The innumerable nominations, even when they refer to the same referent, do not have the same connotations. The subject of discourse referring to the same nominations used by another subject provides them with new values. The nomination "indigene" in the discourse of a French in Tunisia does not have the same meaning as that in the discourse of the Tunisian nationalist. The toponymic adjective "tunisians" is bound to apply for every resident of Tunisia even though he is a foreigner in the discourse of the French; however, this meaning is dashed in the nationalist discourse and becomes restricted only to the real inhabitants of the country, id est, the arabo-musulman natives. It is actually a struggle for the appropriation of the space where the only means is the noun. And the political system that was established by France in Tunisia from 1881 to 1956, was-it a protectorship or colonization? Our study of the nominations and the representations of the I and the Others is to be backed up by a corpus involving some discourses that pave the way for a research of the meaning or meanings of the nominations and the necessary decoding of the referents

Full textThis work of the verbal polysemy which joins in the theoretical frame of the Applicative and Cognitive Grammar suggests representing verbs of transfer of the Korean. Every polysemous meaning of a verb will be represented by a semantico-cognitive schema and integrated into a semantic network of the same verb. This work aims then at arguing the anti-anti-relativistic hypotheses, according to which every language builds its own cognitive representations by means of the schema which involves abstracted primitives. We took for object of analysis five verbs indicating the unidirectional transfer (juda ’to give’, batda ’to receive’, -tda ’to obtain’) or the bidirectional transfer (sada ’to buy’ and phalda ’to sell’), and a verb of perception (boda ’to see’) which overlaps partially with verbs of transfer. As result we bring out seven general types of the schemas which correspond to the various abstract scenes realized by the verbs of transfer, except for the auxiliary uses which are not homogeneous and thus do not come down to a generic shape

Flann O'Brien's bilingualism and ambiguous relation to language inspires his satirical fiction and chronicles through series of oppositions working at multiple levels of analysis in his writing, staging the diglottic relationship of speakers to their native longue, and the illusory quest of knowledge through language. This study makes use of the methods of pragmatics and discourse analysis (of Grice, Ducrot and Recanati, among others) to understand how Flann O'Brien's satire and comic writing subvert traditional conceptions of cooperative communication, and on a broader level, question the very notion of literary tradition. Through his language games and comic writing, Flann O'Brien depicts the postcolonial condition of Irish speakers and reveals his own complex and ambiguous position as an Irish author in a newly independent Ireland, after Joyce

Full textThis work deals with semantic analysis of French verbs through the"metalinguistic functions" that represent them. Verbs are characterised by their predicative role in the selection and determination of arguments. Depending on the type of argumental relationship that they bring about, it is possible to categorise different verbal senses and their environment into various "aspects" with the "actantial structures" that are specific to them. It is from this point of view that the "Dictionnaire sémantique et syntaxique des verbes français" (The Semantic and Syntaxic Dictionary of French Verbs) represents each verbal sense by means of a logico-semantic structure composed of deep predicates. Deep predicates designate aspectual and actantal characteristics of a sense when the sense is paced within a "situation" as part of a "process". Regrouping similar locico-semantic structures, however, breaks up the aspectual type originally attributed to such processes. The deep predicates do not correspond to "primitive" conceptions and take on polysemic characteristics. From this polysemy, we then try to comprehend the "different types of process" that vehicle elementary semantico-conceptual operations. Each type of process can have a primitive metalinguistic operator which may represent the semantic-syntaxic function of the process whilst simultaneously recounting the notion that underlies it. Far from reaching a systemic approach to these operators, we try to understand the metalinguistic or conceptual mechanisms that subsume the semantic functions of verbs

Full textThe dissertation From Schematization to Dissuasive Communication. Pragmatic Perspectives on Suicide Prevention studies dissuasion in verbal interaction focusing on Romanian, French and English languages. The objective is to identify strategies used by anonymous speakers in order to prevent suicide. So we collected and analyzed ethnographic data (accounts and personal notes on the activities of some social Romanian and French centers), web data (forums) and literature (Norman, 'night Mother, 1983). The pragmatic analysis highlights various acts (protest, (un)council, prohibition, suggestion), as well as strategies of mitigation (indirect speech acts, positive and negative politeness). By comparing the profane and professional talk, we demonstrate that the imperative is irrelevant in the pursuit of a dissuasive effect, and we discuss on the conversational structure of social contexts of communication. It turns out that schematizations vary under the influence of situational factors. We propose the concept of reference change as evidence of dissuasive influence. All in all, we attempt to describe the pattern of dissuasion as a communicative type based on concrete situations of dissuasive talk. The theoretical and methodological dimensions should contribute to the development of fundamental and applied research

Full textThis dissertation investigates the temporal systems of Standard Arabic, Syrian Arabic and Modern Hebrew. The syntactic configuration put forward in this thesis is based on the idea that tense and aspect are to be defined by the same set of relations holding between time spans. The relations between each pair of time spans are encoded by two syntactic categories. Cross-linguistically, either both categories or only one of them can be made to be structurally visible. It is suggested, that in Hebrew, the higher temporal category is rendered structurally visible, while in Arabic (Standard and Syrian), it is the lowest of them two. Arguments for this syntactic configuration come from two distinct domains : non-finite clauses et non-verbal predicates in the present tense. These domains of investigation were chosen because they permit to examine the structural manifestation of temporality by (partly) dissociating inflection from the lexical verb carrying it. The present analysis shows explicitly that Modern Hebrew is a tense prominent language and that Arabic is an aspectual one. The theoretical contribution of this dissertation is showing the temporality is derived in the syntax and that its source is not one fixed position in the syntactic hierarchy

Full textThis thesis deals the written representation of the youth language (slang) in comic books. The representation of the language of the young people in the comic books is interesting for various reasons: from a societal point of view, it relates with the language of the teenagers which for a few years has drawn the attention of the sociolinguists and the general public. From a linguistic point of view, youth language is represented in the comic books that are a form of expression very widespread in France, in comparison with standard French and the standard of French language. The results found in original research are very important with regard to the passage of the oral examination to the writing. Research was done at the phonic level by studying the way in which the prosody and the intonation are interpreted in written at the lexical level by examining the words of the corpus; on the morphological level by analyzing the formation of the words of the corpus; at the syntactic level where the need to be brief is present but also which wealth brings the use of the interjections and the onomatopoeias in the comic book

Full textThe research presented in this thesis consists in a calculation of aspectual and temporal semantic values (succession, simultaneity, precedency, enclosure, etc. ) Which some French tenses of the indicative mode express, with the help of compatible method of computer processing that has recourse to linguistic knowledge. The background theoretical approach is applicative and cognitive grammar. This grammatical model tries to represent aspectual and temporal semantic values in the form of intervals, a metalanguage based on general topology. We have chosen as objects of study about ten of the temporal conjunctives (quand, lorsque, alors que, depuis que, etc. ). They are observed frequently in current use as connecting markers for two clauses, each of them containing a tense. To achieve the purpose, this study aims at clearing the syntactic and semantic function of temporal conjunctives, at taking invariables out of some French expressions and at proposing about one hundred heuristic rules that are ready to be implemented

Full textIn this study, I analyze the cognitive process of oral Spanish comprehension as a sense-building process through what I have called “audiovisual representation devices.” These devices are a vehicle for audiovisual (involving multimodality), real (favoring the authenticity of the language), narrative (describing actions following specific patterns) and artistic (appealing to our senses, emotions and intellect) texts. Although a cognitive process cannot be taught, it is possible to explore the strategies that teachers can use to guide students in their learning by encouraging them to "experience" the device, to appropriate it, and so allow them to create new sense, a sense of their own. Thus, this study, which is based on a collection of data after thorough field testing, is guided by the following questions: to what extent can audiovisual representation devices assist in oral Spanish comprehension in higher education? What relationship favoring the creation of meaning maintain language, image and sound in audiovisual representation devices? How must the teacher approach audiovisual representation devices so as to involve, lead, and guide students ensuring they all have a genuine (inter)active role despite any device paradigm shifts? The answers to these questions, which form the body of this dissertation, serve as a few guidelines to help teachers gain an insight into what is at stake when they choose to work using audiovisual representation devices. These answers also aim to motivate higher-education students to approach learning Spanish under better conditions

Full textResearch on the translation of Nigerian literary texts written in English, and even other African texts, has demonstrated that the cultural specificity of the texts is often retained when they are translated into European languages in order to preserve their local colour. This thesis adds to the scholarship by examining the elements that surround the texts. It explores the paratexts (layouts, titles, cover images, blurbs, synopses and prefaces) of Nigerian novels written in English and translated into French from 1953 to 2013 to determine how the novels are presented to the target audience, in other words, how the French audience is envisaged to receive the works. The hypothesis of the thesis is that the images of Nigeria influenced the presentation and promotion of the novels. The framework of descriptive translation studies was applied. Different perceptions of Nigeria were defined. Afterwards, the paratexts of the source and target novels were extracted and compared in order to find recurrent patterns in the target paratexts and to establish if there were references to Nigerian images in the paratexts. The findings of the research revealed that, like the translation of Nigerian (African) works in which the cultural specificity is preserved in the target texts, the cultural specificity of the works is also retained in the target-text paratexts, and it indicates that the novels are construed as narrative documentation of Nigerian culture and values. The works are marketed for their exoticism, which is emphasised in the paratexts. Furthermore, the images of Nigeria in France did not only shape the construal and marketing of the novels but also played a role in the selection of the works for translation. The presentation and promotion of these novels as documentation of Nigerian culture and values reinforce the negative images of Nigeria. It downplays the aesthetic qualities of the novels and can prevent a reader from engaging with Nigerian works from a different standpoint

This model allows finding automatically prosodic group boundaries and structuring them hierarchically. The prosodic structure of every phrase is thus represented in the form of a prosodic tree. This representation proved to be efficient for automatic processing of continuous speech in French. The resulting prosodic segmentation was compared to manual prosodic segmentation. Prosodic structure accuracy was also verified manually by an expert. We applied our model to different kinds of continuous spontaneous speech data with different phonemic and lexical segmentations: manual segmentation and different kinds of automatic segmentations. In particular, the application of our prosodic model to the output of a speech recognition System showed a satisfactory performance. There also bas been established a correlation between the level of the prosodic tree node and the boundary detection accuracy. Thus, it is possible to improve the precision of boundary detection by attributing a degree of confidence to the boundary according to its level in prosodic tree

Full textLanguages show striking typological variations in how they conceptualise motion events. This diversity influences how speakers select different types of information (Path, Manner), as well as how learners of a foreign language construct the target language system (Hendriks & Hickmann 2011). The study examines the impact of typological constraints on foreign language acquisition exploring the hypothesis of conceptual transfer from first to foreign language (L1>FL). Based on Talmy’s (2000) distinction between “verb-” and “satellite-framed languages”, corpus-based analyses compare descriptions of voluntary motion events along three paths (up, down, across) elicited in a controlled situation from seven groups of speakers: three groups of native speakers (Russian, English, French) and four groups of Russian learners at two proficiency levels (beginners vs. More advanced) acquiring English or French in a classroom setting. Results show that, in spite of considerable differences in the productions of Russian and English native speakers, particularly with respect to the relative variability in their lexicalization patterns, idiosyncratic forms and structures produced by L2 learners rarely mirror motion conceptualization in their first language, which suggests the absence of a substantial transfer from L1. This absence of substantial transfer of L1 framing patterns is also observed in learners of French at both proficiency levels. The discussion highlights several factors that may account for these observed variations, including cognitive processes linked to the fact that Russian is a less transparent system than English and French

Full textLearning a foreign language necessarily requires that one should develop a representation of otherness related to this language. This representation arises from the experience of those involved in the learning process but it also comes from the knowledge and values acquired through education and social communication. It plays a part in practical decisions such as the choice of a foreign language when it is offered and the choice of a foreign destination when international mobility is undertaken. Our purpose is to reconstruct the representation of a "minor" foreign language such as italian in the french school system, especially at the level of higher education. Since the representation of a foreign language is highly dependant on its position in the range of the foreign languages which are available, we have attempted to highlight the priorities which determine this hierarchic ranking. We have therefore conducted a survey (involving interviews and written questionnaires) in an engineering school. It offered two significant advantages for the learning of italian because of the variety of foreign languages available and because it provided students with a professional environment which valued this plurality as a strategic element in a training course with an international orientation. The results of this survey will help bring to the fore the various categories of preconceptions which constitute the field of foreign languages as well as the motives leading to the choice of italian and the link between the acquired linguistic abilities, the desire for international mobility and the specificity of a professional culture. This study is based on the conviction that, in the french school system, maintaining so called minority languages is at the same time the sign and the guarantee of a real diversification both linguistic and cultural

Full textThe focus of this research is the image of France as a country, its people, and the French language teaching and learning among Jordanian students in public and private schools. The influences of this image on the language studies and the process of teaching and learning are significant. This study was centered on French language learning process in Jordanian schools. The researcher was interested in this field of study because it is almost virgin filed and was not yet explored properly. In order to collect the necessary data for this research, detailed and extensive field study was conducted using four different methods for the data collection, these methods are: questionnaire, use of drawings, associated words and semi-structured interviews (individual and collective). Six hundred and fifty five French language students aged between twelve and sixteen years old from five different public and private schools have participated in this field study. The results of this research clearly show that, the image of France, French people and French language is positive and stable, despite the few occasions when the image was stereotyped, antagonistic and generalized. The research also shows that there is a very close relationship between foreign language representation and learning motivation. Finally, this research study shows the importance of understanding the image of learners towards the country and its people and towards the language itself, as well, the importance of correcting, rebuilding and replacing the bad images misrepresentation. Moreover, the study supports the necessity of adopting an education with an international approach, especially with globalization and diversity of information resources

Full textThis research deals with the study of the problems relating to the use of the upper case letter from the point of view of Natural Language Processing for an automatic spelling correction. The use of the French capital letters suffers from a lack of fixed standardization which inevitably involves that they are used without methodology. This absence reveals on the one hand phenomenon called “majusculite” (abuse of the capital letters) and “minusculite” (abuse of small letters) and on the other hand the presence of spelling variants (la Montagne noire, la montagne Noire, la Montagne Noire, la montagne noire). The current spelling checkers seem unable to say which the good form is. The true direction of upper case letters tends to disappear and their relevance becoming less obvious. Such an amount of doubts, hesitations and fluctuations in the rules of employment, so many differences between the different authors return any attempt of automatic processing very difficult. This wobbly normality more particularly touches the proper nouns known as complex or “dénominations”. The most logical solution so that cease the drift, is to standardize the use of the capital letters. Basing us on various reference works, we worked out clear and logical rules governing the use of the capital letter in order to create a theoretical model of an automatic system checking capital letters. Thus, this solution sees the disappearance of the spelling variants whose existence also constitutes a major problem in research in extraction of fixed forms

Full textNature is represented in african french speaking novels through a traditionnal point of view. This latter has set the fondamental principles of it. Traditionnal african philosophie gives a religious sens to nature. It is a mythic perspective which conceives a unity between man and nature. Nature is the recipiendary of invisible and holy forces. It contains messages which are sent to man. African spirituality consists in the knowledge and the analysis of the signs that nature sends. That traditionnal point of view can be found in the novels of the following novellers: Djibi Thiam, Camara Laye, Nazi Boni, it is actualised through several manners by the other novels. The changes in the way of living and the historical evolution have introduced other relations between man and nature. The unity between them can hardly be lived. Thus, unity with nature is searched through diverse images and metaphores. However, by analysing these images and metaphores, one can see the persistancy of the traditionnal point of view, no matter how the problems that modernism creates are representation of nature through african speaking novels is therefore greatly influenced by the belief in the existence of a relation between man and nature

Full textThere is genuine continuity between the congolese oral tradition and literature penned in the french linguage by the writers of our time : continuity in "collage" form. On the one hand they are the well-known african literary genres such as songs, tales, proverbs, myths, legends, parables and yarns and, on the other, a type of veneer drawn from the maternal bantu languages : ladi-kongo, munukutuba (kikongo), lingala, vili, bembe, mbochi (mbosi), and the other. . . Effectively, since the ivory cast writer ahmadou kourouma launched his renowned novel sun of independence (heinemann educator), an african form of "nouveau roman" has come into being, not perhaps to the compared with michel butor's passing time (jupiter bks) : yet a distinct manner of "nouveau roman" none the less. It embodies a series of works that stand apart, headed by Sony Labou Tansi, closely followed by Henri Lopes, Sylvain Bemba, Tchitchelle Tchivela, and Emmanuel Boundzeki-Dongala. While each one retains his individuality. They embellish their texts lexical and grammatical features, known elsewhere "africanisms" and locally "congolisms"

Full textThis study lies in the field of foreign language education, but it also refers to multilingualism and third language acquisition. In particular, this study examines the activation of another language in the speech production of greek-speaking learners of french as a foreign language. The study refers to ESP learners at university level. We postulate third language development as an emergent process and the approach adopted is focused in the psycholinguistique dimension. In this rechearch we are trying to describe a microcontext, this of the acquisition of French as a third language, whith adults learning the language in a guided and heteroglossic environment. Our goal is to describe the phenomenon of the activation of a language other than expected, manifested in oral speech production in French L/C3, as well as the metalinguistic activity that accompanies. Also, the language is considered in our work as a set of practices and representations. We have assembled an oral corpus to explore the activation of L/C1 Greek and English L / C 2 in the oral production of L/C3 French Greek learners. Field research was conducted in Greece, in a public institution of higher education, with students taking courses in French at the University of Athens. It is a multilingual population where French is at least the third language as their first language is Greek and they have learned English, German and other languages during their schooling

Full textTraditionally, we distinguish three parts of the speech in the Arabic language: the name, the verb and the particle. The adjective is considered a subclass of the noun category. But if we observe well theses two parts, we realize that this partition does not allow to account for the characteristics the separate them. We have therefore proposed a new classification by considering the adjective as a category itself. Then we studied its different functions: restrictive adjectives, state complement and predictive adjectives. However, our main interest remains the predictive adjectives. We have proposed some properties of these adjectives. The second point concerns the semantic classification of predictive adjectives which is part of the objet class model, in line with Z. S. Harris’s transformational grammar. This method allows us to construct semantic classes of predictive adjectives based on syntactic criteria for automatic processing

Full textThis study as a doctoral thesis, deals with the analysis of diachronic and psychosystematic possessives and with spatial representation in the Italian, French and Romanian languages. The goal of this work is to study and to better understand the expression of membership in the Italian language opposing to French and Romanian ones, while focusing on the implication that they may have on the representation of the person in each of the three languages. This work focuses on a system analysis of language considered as a coherent and closed one, prior to any uses which is inner to each person that could deal with it. The analysis of meaning effects in speeches, which was made possible by the development of a corpus that some items can sometimes confuse the initiate, provides opportunities to better understand the cohesion of the language system considered

Full textCausality is one of the most fundamental notions, not only in sciences but also in everyday life. Compared to other relations, such as agentivity, semantic transitivity, factitivity, which organize relations between two entities, causality is an interpreted relation between two situations. This research involves analyzing linguistic indicators in order to apprehend causal relations in medical texts. Medicine well accounts for the complexity of this notion, causality. Our causal schema, composed of three steps, Observation-Interpretation-Validation, takes into account the medical diagnostic process and the structure of texts that explain causal relations. Nine French verbs are analyzed in a formalism called semantico-cogntive scheme and they transport various types of information : time, semantic roles of arguments, situation types and so on. We have established a typology of causal relations that is based on the semantic analysis of these nine verbs. Applicative and Cognitive Grammar allows to analyze multi-significant verbs at the semantico-cognitive level and helps us to understand various meanings of a verb in its network

Full textWe propose an analysis of segmental complexity from the praguian markedness to the consonantal representations of unary models. First, we discuss those frameworks, then we consider a new approach to complexity as the result ot two operations : union and intersection. Next, we analyse the relation between segments within syllables. We question the concepts of constituency and sonority, each providing a particular answer to segmental relations. We maintain the idea that the transitional nature of segments imply ambisyllabicity and ambidependency and that charm is a translation of the syllabic contrast. A unification of those approaches takes french fricatives as empirical objects. We conclude on their internal structure and on the transitional status of their manner of articulation

Full textOur research deals with the various ways of integrating utterances of discourse into narration in contemporary English language texts. Within the framework of A. Culioli's enunciative theory of linguistic operations, we redefine levels of utterances according to the various operations of location that are brought into play and not in terms of predetermined categories. We distinguish different levels : Sit° (the initial situation of enunciation), SitR (the reported situation of enunciation), Sit1 (the situation of assertion), Sit2 (the situation built within the text). Our study then focuses on the various markers of discourse indicating a change in the level of utterance. Markers within the text are considered as evidence of operations of location relative to the subjective parameter (S) and/or the spatio-temporal parameter (T). Discussing examples drawn from both literary and journalistic texts, we first analyse the most explicit markers, i. E. The frontiers of the reported utterance (speech verbs, quotation marks, markers of subordination), then the markers within the utterance itself (markers of aspect, modality, deixis, person and tense, and markers of heterogeneousness). We show that each one of those markers needs to be carefully analysed, whether considered as real markers of discourse (both external and internal to the reported utterance) or as mere pointers paving the way for the change in the level of utterance ("indices de frayage"). Finally, in a comparative analysis of three texts from our corpus, we will suggest an original representation of the various discourse markers in their context

Full textParis has provided writers and Polish painters, multiple textual and iconic motifs. It has been transformed or deformed, constantly represented by generations of Slavic artists who contributed to the birth of the myth of a Polish Paris. If every myth appears as irrational, if it is not concerned with historical truth, than there is not a necessary link with history and a social function neither. Their knowledge remains fundamental to deciphering the symbol, allegory and metaphor of the Polish Paris that has several meanings. It reflects the fact that the Polish nation has created in the XIXe century his “capital” - the place of refuge and ingathering of the exiles wanting to regain the independence of Poland abroad since the late XVIIIe and all throughout the XIXe century. Later, Paris becomes the spiritual capital of peasants polish who came in France for economic and political reasons. But Paris had also a profound influence over Poles. If the Paris cosmopolitan has educated the Sarmatians of the XVIIe and XVIIIe centuries, it has established itself as a universal center of culture and innovation in all areas of creation in the years 1890-1939.Certainly, the Polish Paris has a rightful place among the Slavic national representations. However, his use in a class of French as a foreign language allows the study of Franco- Polish relations under the double sign of the fascination and disillusionment. While the French Spirit remains synonymous with elegance and the Parisian language reflects a lifestyle, Maria Walewska remains the emblem of the Franco-Polish emotional relationship. In turn, the representation of the brave Polish immigrant reminds the exile and the occupied Paris - the struggle for “our freedom and yours”. As for the Slavic artists of the Ecole de Paris, did they manage to reinvent the Polish Paris?

About these oriental women, the travelers knew how to pick up a very huge documentary matter in the Levant. They also gave a direct witness to what they saw : so it’s necessary to study their accounts for themselves, instead of reading them as the matter of literary and fictive books. The way of the travelers minded women also suggests an esthetic reading. Telling about oriental women has an influence on discursive forms and also made the travelers alive to the oriental Poetics. This thesis would like to demonstrate that having observed oriental women gave an impetus to the way of thinking the political and moral Orient as a possible mirror for the Occident
