SUMMARY Menopause is an endocrine phenomenon characterized by gradual estrogen decline. This is a stage in a woman's life in which contraception is extremely important as the risks associated with pregnancy and childbirth increase, both maternal issues associated with higher incidence of comorbidities and issues related to fetal abnormalities, mitochondrial abnormalities, or genetic syndromes. On the other hand, there is a growing number of women who have postponed motherhood and need effective contraception, but without prolonging the return to fertility. Abstract:
AbstractAll individuals, including sex workers, are entitled to the full spectrum of sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and rights. Yet sex workers continue to bear significant SRH inequities and unmet needs for appropriate SRH services at every step along their sexual and reproductive lives. To illustrate the complex and nuanced barriers that currently impede sex workers’ access to SRH services, this chapter describes the current gaps in access to SRH services experienced by sex workers globally, drawing on in-depth interviews and focus group discussions with 171 sex workers and sex worker organisations from across ten countries. Interviews highlight the lack of tailored, comprehensive, and integrated SRH services. These gaps are driven by intersecting structural forces such as: the criminalisation of sex work, same-sex relationships, and gender non-conformance; harmful and coercive SRH policies; sex work and gender-based stigma; and logistical and practical barriers. To support the SRH needs and rights of sex workers, participants recommended improved access to comprehensive, integrated services addressing sex workers’ broader SRH needs, including family planning, abortion and pregnancy needs, SRH screening, hormone therapy, and other gender-affirming services. Crucial steps towards ensuring equitable SRH access for sex workers include addressing stigma and discrimination within healthcare settings, removal of coercive SRH policies and practices, and dedicating appropriate resources towards sex worker-led SRH models within the context of decriminalisation of sex work.

Abstract:
Sexual and reproductive health (SRH) is a fundamental human right that implies knowledge and exercise of sexual and reproductive rights (SSR). Among the latter are access to knowledge and use of contraceptive methods; therefore, SSR should be experienced as a constant experience that allows women to achieve full satisfaction and security in their sexual and reproductive sphere through their subjectivity, their body, and their social and cultural life. Knowing about family planning allows having the desired number of children determining the interval between pregnancies and choosing the contraceptive method according to the social, cultural and psychological beliefs, needs and conditions of each woman. However, indigenous women from Canton Cañar (Ecuador) have less access and knowledge to contraceptive methods, mainly due to the influence of social, cultural, religious and economic factors, among others. The lack of information about family planning in indigenous populations of the South of Ecuador has motivated this study; through a medical-anthropological approach, it is intended to determine what is the preference regarding contraceptive methods in indigenous Cañari women in the context of the Cañari culture and what are their perceptions regarding such methods.

Abstract:
Like all clinicians, reproductive healthcare providers face specialty-specific ethical questions. However, the first editor of this book, Dr. Julie Chor (JC), an obstetrician-gynecologist who also completed a Complex Family Planning Fellowship, has never found an ethics text that is tailored to the needs of practicing clinicians, students, and trainees in reproductive healthcare. This is an unfortunate gap in the literature because whether reproductive health providers come from obstetrics and gynecology, family medicine, pediatrics, or another field, they all must be able to identify and analyze complex ethical issues that lie at the crossroads of patient decision-making, scientific advancement, political controversy, government regulation, and profound moral considerations in the context of continually evolving medical, legal, and societal factors. To fill this gap, Dr. Chor invited co-editor Professor Katie Watson (KW), a bioethics professor and lawyer who focuses on reproductive ethics, to partner in creating the text that she has always longed to use but has never found while practicing and teaching in this complex milieu....

Abstract:
Abstract—Introduction of invasive species, whether deliberate or inadvertent, poses a significant, human-mediated threat to biodiversity that has the potential to exacerbate other anthropogenic impacts and contribute to declines in fish biodiversity. In general, invasive species share life history traits that contribute to their success, such as prolific reproduction and the ability to thrive in highly disturbed habitats. These traits inherently pose difficulties in managing these species. Prevention is widely recognized as the most effective—and often only—management strategy. From a regulatory perspective, prevention often takes the form of a blacklist of prohibited species based on risk assessments, and both the list and associated regulations are developed with input from key stakeholder groups. In the case of prohibited tilapia in Texas, a long-standing regulatory exception allowing possession of Mozambique Tilapia Oreochromis mossambicus for pond stocking is believed to have resulted in frequent, unlawful escapes into public waters that may pose a threat to fish species of greatest conservation need and jeopardize the success of conservation initiatives. Spatial conservation prioritization is a method gaining popularity for identifying areas where conservation actions may have the greatest positive benefit, yet the “knowing-doing gap” between science and implementation is commonly recognized as a hurdle that must be overcome. There is a need to develop science to better inform regulatory approaches to prevention and management of invasive species. This is a unique, and successful, case study that demonstrates potential for development and implementation of systematic conservation planning approaches to conservation action that addresses this need. Spatial conservation assessment using Zonation software was a component of the planning framework that facilitated identification of science-based, regulatory zones that consider potential economic impacts to commercial stakeholders. Feedback from these stakeholders, decision makers, and those tasked with enforcement was obtained and incorporated into development of a realistic, balanced regulatory approach to mitigating impacts of invasive tilapia escape on imperiled fishes in Texas.

Abstract:
In the 1942 case of Skinner v. Oklahoma, the U.S. Supreme Court called “procreation” one of “the basic civil rights of man.” But this lofty rhetoric carries no binding authority as legal precedent, and it came when there was just one way to make a baby. More recent developments in medicine and technology separate sex from conception; biology from brute luck; and genetics from gestation or childrearing. Birth control, surrogacy, sperm banking, egg freezing, and embryo selection don’t just enhance control over whether, when, and how to reproduce—they reveal distinct interests in choosing pregnancy (gestating a fetus), parenthood (raising a child), and particulars (selecting offspring traits). The American legal system doesn’t recognize any general right to make decisions about having children, not aside from narrow limits against severe government restrictions on access to abortion and birth control. Procreation deserves greater protection because it goes to the heart of autonomy, well-being, and equality—these vital human goods give distinct reasons to care that individuals be able to choose whether, when, and how to reproduce. The greatest value of family planning has less to do with choices than consequences—consequences that lay identities, experiences, and opportunities on the line. Few other decisions or undertakings over the course of a lifetime so shape who a person is, how he spends his days, and how he wants to be remembered. Reproductive negligence can also erode social equality as surely as limiting access to those services and procedures in the first place.

Abstract:
Bioinspired algorithms are a generic term used to refer to the solution of computational problems, based on the planning and implementation based on existing models in the evolutionary process-related nature. Most evolutionary algorithms proposed paradigms that occur in the biology of living things and concepts of natural selection, mutation and reproduction. However, other paradigms that can be taken in the creation of evolutionary algorithms also exist such as the forces of nature, which have been many algorithms based on water, gas and wind reactions. Many of the environments involving unstructured problems in this case a problem of accommodation of containers of humanitarian aid to a company with limited resources, which can be considered from the perspective of cultural paradigms, because the cultural paradigms offer a wide range categorized models that ignore the possible solutions to the problem-a common situation in real life. The purpose of this research is to apply evolutionary computation properties of cultural technology; in this case, to corroborate through data mining analysis of how low the support of various companies use technology for their own benefit to propose a solution to a given problem, in our case carry different types of goods deemed humanitarian aid . The mentioned above, to carry out an adaptation from the standpoint of the modeling societies. An environment for conducting tests for this type of analysis in our case a model arrangement of containers was developed in order to enable learning about not very conventional characteristics of a cultural technology. Abstract:
The first widely available hormonal contraceptive method, the birth control pill, was first introduced in the 1960s. It was both a response to, and a reflection of, the societal and philosophical currents of the time. The idea that fertility could be controlled, pregnancy planned, and population stabilized to decrease poverty, manifested reason and rationalism, as well as the concept that science could be used to improve life. Indeed, the increased utilization of various hormonal contraceptive methods over the last four decades is now regarded as one of the most successful public health ventures of our time. Money spent on family planning services has been estimated to result in more than triple the savings in prenatal and neonatal costs (1). Although it is now viewed as one of the great inventions of the 20th century, hormonal contraception has also been controversial. It allowed for the separation of sex from pregnancy and reproduction, and is cited by many as a catalyst to the sexual revolution. Consequently, hormonal contraceptives have been some of the best studied and closely scrutinized medications in history. Hormonal contraceptives can be divided into two major categories, the progestin-only methods and combined hormonal contraception, which contains an oestrogen and progestin component. With all hormonal contraceptives, the progestin component has the dominant hormonal effect. The progestin component is also responsible for the mechanism of contraceptive action with the oestrogen component of the combined methods serving mainly to regulate bleeding (2). The combined hormonal methods have been constituted in the form of a pill, injection, transdermal patch, and ring. Progestin-only methods have been formulated to be delivered in the form of a pill, injection, subdermal implant, and intrauterine device (IUD). Overall, hormonal contraception has been shown to be remarkably safe, especially when compared with pregnancy, which is one of the most medically-threatening times in a woman’s life. The World Health Organization (WHO) has published evidence-based guidelines to help assist in contraceptive decision-making. The WHO Medical Eligibility Criteria utilizes a grading system to provide information about the safety of a particular method in women with medical conditions (1 = no restrictions for use; 2 = the advantages generally outweigh the risks; 3 = the risks outweigh the benefits; 4 = the risk is unacceptable). This grading system is based on an extensive review of the literature, as well as expert consensus statements (3).
