The first essay, which is in Chapter 2, evaluates the role economic freedom plays in mediating the effect of foreign direct investment (FDI) on growth. I use the World Bank Enterprise Survey 2003(WBES2003). The knowledge gained was then used to design structures with the potential to exhibit high turnovers and extremely high levels of stereoselectivity.
