There is a pressing need for rehabilitation researchers to further develop their understanding around the complex interventions they deal with on a daily basis. Prevailing methodological approaches, such as pragmatic RCTs, often fail to address the challenges resulting from the complexity of these neurological rehabilitation interventions, specifically in relation to fidelity. Furthermore, the need for an evidence-based client centred approach has inevitably led to an impact on the fidelity of trialled rehabilitation interventions and therefore a potential impact on trial outcomes. Consistency in clinical preceptor training for sonography students is important in assuring equity in sonography student evaluation. Review of a local community college sonography program revealed a gap between expected roles and responsibilities of clinical preceptorship and what was actually done in the clinical setting. The purpose of this project study was to explore perceptions of graduates and preceptors regarding what constituted best practices in the evaluation of sonography students in the clinical setting. Marais, Mark Trevor. "Anthropocentric development evaluation : making people and their humanity the focus of development and its evaluation." Thesis, 1998. http://hdl.handle.net/10500/18124.

Abstract:
The need for an Anthropocentric Development Evaluation stems from the inability of development theory and praxis, which has informed the past Development Decades, to ameliorate abject poverty experienced by most people throughout the world. Emanating from a hermeneutical-interpretist epistemology the fundamental argument of an Anthropocentric Development Evaluation is that people and the crucial aspects of their humanity should be the central focus in development and evaluation processes. Thus, taking the people-centred approach to development as its starting point, an Anthropocentric Developm

Improvements through bio-fortification can therefore enhance access to essential micronutrients. The study was aimed at determining the level of variability of iron and zinc concentration among 20 potato genotypes as a preliminary step for future breeding program. The materials were evaluated using inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry. Statistical analysis indicated significant (P<0.001) variation of Fe and Zn among the genotypes. Abstract:
This study describes the attributes of a highly accomplished mathematics teacher as reported by the students in their class, and also determines whether high school students can differentiate between highly accomplished mathematics teachers and others. The 51-item instrument, Students Evaluating Accomplished Teaching – Mathematics, was developed to map the construct of highly accomplished teaching as articulated by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards in their Adolescent and Young Adulthood Mathematics Standards. Mackey, Anna H. "Evaluation of clinical outcome measures for children with cerebral palsy." 2004. http://hdl.handle.net/2292/3160.

Full text
Abstract:
There are a lack of reliable and valid clinical outcome measures to assess the effects of medical interventions in children with cerebral palsy, potentially compromising research and clinical practice in this area. The objective of this thesis was to identify and develop reliable outcome measures that could be used to evaluate the effects of botulinum toxin A in children with cerebral palsy. Six studies were undertaken in both normative and cerebral palsy populations to address this aim. Two studies investigated the reliability and validity of commonly used measures of lower limb function; thr

Abstract:
Adolescent sex offenders are recognised as perpetrating a significant proportion of all sexual abuse in our communities. The results of extensive research in this area have clarified many intervention issues and this has led to the development and implementation of treatment programmes aimed specifically at adolescents. Notwithstanding the publication of a small number of outcome studies, process evaluations of treatment programmes for this client group have not featured in the literature. Abstract:
This thesis describes the Youth Suicide Prevention Project, the aims of which were to develop, implement, and evaluate community-based strategies to address youth suicide. The focus of the evaluation was formative and was designed to constructively influence all the components of the project. The overall goal of the project was to provide information likely to improve the health and wellbeing of young people and thereby contribute, in the long term, to a reduction in youth suicide. This project, which was undertaken by Ms Coggan over a period of 26 months, involved collaboration with the Menta

Abstract:
This thesis explores whether low birth weight affects glucose homeostasis and other aspects of the metabolic syndrome in twin children. The key parameter studied is insulin resistance, and whether insulin resistance is also associated with abnormalities in blood pressure or other aspects of the metabolic syndrome. This thesis is a comparison of twins to singletons, rather than being a study of these traits within twin pairs. The fetal origins hypothesis suggests that low birth weight ultimately is associated with adult onset diseases namely coronary heart disease, glucose intolerance and hyper

Abstract:
The main aim of this study was to develop nanoparticulate drug delivery systems for chlorambucil (CHL) and asulacrine (ASL). CHL is a DNA alkylating agent. In an attempt to alter the pharmacokinetics (short half-life, rapid clearance and high volume of distribution) and improve the anticancer activity, CHL was incorporated into a lipid nanosphere (LN) formulation. The LN were composed of soybean oil as the internal oil phase, egg lecithin as the primary emulsifier, cholesterol as the phospholipid layer stabilizer, and water as the external phase. Abstract:
The management of water, viewed either as a natural hazard or a vital resource, is critical for the safety and prosperity of communities. The risks associated with managing water availability, whether in scarcity or excess, are critical concerns for the design and operation of infrastructure as well as the implementation of public policy. The spatial variability of rainfall is a known driving force of catchment dynamics and water availability, but despite this, it is often poorly represented in hydrologic studies and designs. This thesis focuses on improvements to the estimation, simulation an
