Metzler, Megan J., and University of Lethbridge Faculty of Arts and Science. "Bimanual skill acquisition : modulation by sex, aging, and auditory feedback." Thesis, Lethbridge, Alta. : University of Lethbridge, Dept. of Neuroscience, c2010, 2010. http://hdl.handle.net/10133/2591.

Full text
Abstract:
Bimanual movement is integral to daily function. As such, it is important to understand factors that influence bimanual performance. Playing the piano was employed to examine bimanual movement. Additionally, the weather prediction task was administered as a measure of non-declarative learning. Sex influenced motor performance. Males tended to perform asymmetrical movements with less skill than females. Age affected motor performance. Older adults were less proficient, but improved similarly with practice as young adults. Further, older adults exhibited differential deterioration of bimanual movement. Feedback and music training affected motor performance. Females performed bimanual movement less proficiently with auditory feedback. Individuals with music training performed bimanual movements relative to unimanual movements better with feedback. Music training moderated age-related differential deterioration of bimanual movements. Older adults performed significantly worse than young adults on the weather prediction task. In addition, the weather prediction task correlated with motor measures in a sample including older adults.
xii, 159 leaves : ill. ; 29 cm

Elliott, Andrea. "Impact of batting skill on pacing during repeated sprints between the wickets." Thesis, Rhodes University, 2014. http://hdl.handle.net/10962/d1013546.

Full text
Abstract:
Introduction: With batting in cricket, there is no known end point, making the allocation of resources and the development of a suitable pacing strategy more difficult. How batsmen allocate resources and pace themselves when repeatedly sprinting between the wickets is therefore not known. According to the ‘anticipatory feedback’ model, the level of expertise/experience has a substantial influence on the development of a suitable pacing strategy. Skilled or experienced batsmen may therefore have a greater ability to develop and implement a pacing strategy compared to that of novice or less-skilled batsmen. Purpose: To assess whether the absence of a known end point at the beginning of repeated sprint bouts between the wickets effects how batsmen pace themselves comparing skilled and less-skilled batsmen. Methods: Twenty-four male cricketers from a university league were selected. Twelve skilled batsmen (players in the top five batting order), and 12 less-skilled batsmen (players in the bottom five batting order) completed three experimental. All trials required batsmen to complete the same number of shuttle sprints (14 shuttles and therefore 28 runs), while only the information provided before each trial differed. Control Trial: This trial is also referred to as the ‘informed’ trial as the batsmen are aware of the exercise requirements (end point). Unknown Trial: The batsmen were not informed of the exercise end point and were required to run on command for an indefinite period (28 runs). Deceptive Trial: Batsmen’ were incorrectly informed with regards to the number of sprints (told they were only doing 14 runs when in fact they were doing 28 runs). Muscle activity, sprint times and RPE measures were obtained during all three trials and compared. Results: Significant (p<0.05) group effects were apparent for sprint times and, ‘central’ and ‘local’ RPE. Specifically, skilled batsmen obtained the faster mean sprint times, and less-skilled batsmen reported the higher mean ‘central’ and ‘local’ RPE values in all three experimental trials. There were no significant group effects for muscle activation. Skilled batsmen did however have lower muscle activation compared to less-skilled batsmen in all three trials. Furthermore, general trends revealed that sprint times and muscle activation decreased over time (from shuttle 1 to shuttle 14), and RPE (‘central’ and ‘local’) ratings increased, regardless of the experimental trials. Skilled batsmen performed the best in all three trials. This was determined by the attainment of faster sprint times, lower muscle activation and low RPE ratings in each of the three trials. The assessment of the relationship of the dependent variables measured in each trial, did however suggest that skilled batsmen performed best in the deceptive trial while less-skilled batsmen performed best in the control trial. Skilled batsmen thus showed superior performance when trial requirements were unclear. Less-skilled batsmen however, were seen to experience decrements in performance when information regarding the end point was unknown or misleading. Conclusion: It can thus be concluded that previous experience facilitates in the obtainment of improved sprint times between the wickets, especially when the exact end point is unknown.

Abstract:
Recruiting internationally qualified nurses (IQNs) is a long-standing strategy to address nursing shortages in developed countries. However, recognising and utilising IQNs’ specialised skills remains complex due to unclear pathways. This mixed-methods research investigates how IQNs transfer specialty skills after immigration. A policy review of 26 policies from 20 countries found that only four provided specialised nurse registration pathways, all requiring postgraduate qualifications. This highlights significant gaps in facilitating skill transfer in developed countries. A literature review revealed inconsistencies in defining nurse specialties and barriers to skill transfer across institutions and borders. There is limited research on IQNs’ and managers’ perspectives, making this study a critical contribution. Phase 1 surveys of IQNs and managers identified barriers such as complex visa processes, inadequate support, and variability in qualifications. Successful integration depends on socio-cultural adaptation, managerial support, and structured transition programs. Phase 2 identified facilitators such as standardised skill assessments, mentorship, cultural integration, and employer engagement. Despite these, challenges like complex registration, misconceptions about qualifications, and fragmented skill recognition persist, hindering effective skill use. Meta-analysis of findings from 115 participants, including IQNs and managers, showed that IQNs bring valuable specialised skills to Australian healthcare. Their effective use depends on practice opportunities, self-determination, and tailored transition programs. Recommendations include establishing an IQN support program, upskilling managers, and creating strategies to maximise IQNs’ skills. These findings provide guidance for IQNs, managers, healthcare administrators, and regulatory bodies to improve policies and practices for IQN integration.

Mansfield, Andrew Simon. "Using Design Based Research to improve life skill development of youth in the outdoors." Thesis, University of Sydney, 2021. https://hdl.handle.net/2123/24324.

Full text
Abstract:
Youth development occurs in a range of contexts, including the outdoors. Youth development can be considered an educational ‘black box’, the developmental outcomes being well understood but the processes through which these outcomes are achieved not being as well understood. This research project used seven phases of Design Based Research to investigate how a more detailed understanding of youth development in the outdoors contributes to improvements in participant life skill development. As an outcome, 14 Design Principles (DPs) of youth development in the outdoors were identified and combined as a model to guide youth development in the outdoors. Initially, a scoping review and review of relevant grey literature were conducted to identify DPs. The Camp, a case study program, was evaluated for its alignment with these DPs, this evaluation being supported by analysis of practitioner interviews (n=3). DP10 (Youth development in the outdoors should provide participants with opportunities for reflection in order to process their experiences) was identified to be targeted by an intervention. This intervention supported participant reflection through guided discussion and reflective journaling. Two iterations of Design Based Research were then undertaken to test, refine and retest this intervention. Quantitative and qualitative data was collected and analysed to test the effects of this intervention during two iterations of the Camp. Quantitative data was collected using the LEQ-H (Neill et al., 2003) (n=276 and n=246). Qualitative data was collected through semi-structured interviews (n=17 and n=17) and analysis of participants’ reflective journals (n=78). The Camp had a significant impact on participants’ life skill development, measured through the domains of Achievement Motivation, Emotional Control, Self Confidence and Social Competence. The intervention implemented within ‘The Camp’ did not however have a significant impact upon participant life skill development.

Morales, Velázquez Cesáreo. "Cross-Cultural Validation of the Will, Skill, Tool Model of Technology Integration." Thesis, University of North Texas, 2006. https://digital.library.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metadc5256/.

Full text
Abstract:
The teacher professional development component of the will, skill, tool model of technology integration was tested for predictive validity in the cross-cultural context of data from Texas, USA, and data from Mexico City, Mexico. Structural equation modeling (SEM) analysis, path analysis, and multiple regression analysis, were statistical procedures employed. The analyses yielded positive results for the model's validity and reliability. The resulting model was found to be a reliable tool to evaluate technology integration among elementary and middle school teachers in Texas and in Mexico City. For the purposes of this study, the teacher professional development component of the will, skill, tool model of technology integration is referred to as the will, skill, tool model of technology integration (WiSTTI). This was one of the seven alternative models tested for goodness of fit across a total of 7 data samples. The structural equation modeling approach proved to be a good technique to find the best fit model in a cross-cultural environment. Latent variables and a set of parameters to judge the validity and reliability of each model were set for testing and retesting in an iterative process. Eventually a "new" modified version of the WiSSTI model was found to fit the data for all samples studied from both countries. From a theoretical perspective, the variation of the WiSTTI model found to be the best fit to the data indicates that increased teacher willingness to integrate technology brings about increased skill, and increased skill leads to more advanced technology integration, if access to technology is available for instruction. Results derived from the model with respect to the evaluation of technology integration for teachers from Texas and Mexico City suggest a differential effect by country, with the Texas teachers (representing USA) currently more advanced in technology integration than their colleagues from Mexico. No large effect was found for educational level, with elementary school teachers and middle school teachers at approximately equivalent levels of technology integration in both countries.

Abstract:
The main purpose of this study was to evaluate the science investigation skill attainment of Tongan Form 5 (16 years of age) General Science students. Benchmark statements were developed to describe the range of science investigation skills and standard of performance that should be expected of Tongan Form 5 General Science students. A written test of science process skills and a practical test of science apparatus skills, were developed to assess the level of attainment of science investigation skills by students who have completed Form 4 and Form 5 General Science in Tonga. The instruments were piloted twice in Western Australian schools, revised, piloted in Tonga and then administered to students at ten high schools In Tonga. From the written test of science process skills, it was found that more than 60% of the Form 5 students had not attained the benchmark standards. The students performed best on questions regarding collecting and communicating information, and worst on the questions relating to problem analysis, planning and control of variables. From the practical test of science apparatus skills, it was found that more than half of the Form 5 students had not attained the benchmark standards related to using laboratory equipment like a thermometer, Bunsen burner, triple-beam balance, and measuring cylinder.

Abstract:
Family level data was collected from those served in a state-wide rollout of SafeCare® in Georgia between January of 2010 and November of 2011. Families who received SafeCare were trained in the intervention’s three modules: Parent-Child or Parent-Infant Interaction, Home Safety, and Child Health. The purpose of this study was to measure changes in parental skill demonstration by analyzing pre- and post-training assessments. Additionally, parental demographic characteristics were also assessed for associations with skill acquisition within each module. Follow-up analysis concluded that families displayed increases in parenting skills among all SafeCare modules. Moderator analysis showed that those with only one child showed greater decreases in home hazards as did those with two children. Also, it was found that income level moderated performance in the Parent-Child Interaction module with participants below the median income level exhibiting a greater increase in PCI skill demonstration than those above the median income level. Further research should consider modeling multiple parental characters (e.g. CPS status and income) with skill performance over time. Lastly, additional research should aim to determine if those who exhibit increases in parenting skills are also less likely to experience future child maltreatment reports.

Abstract:
This dissertation presents the results of a research project aiming to optimise the scheduling of activities within a research laboratory of the “Commissariat à l’Energie Atomique et aux Energies Alternatives (CEA)”. To tackle this problem, we decompose every activity into a set of elementary tasks to apply standard scheduling methods. We model the problem as an extended version of the Multi-Skill Project Scheduling Problem (MSPSP). As a first approach, we propose an MSPSP with penalty for preemption, along with its mixed-integer/linear programming (MILP) formulation, where the preemption is allowed applying a penalty every time an activity is interrupted. However, the previous approach does not take into account all safety constraints at the facility, and a more accurate variant of the problem is needed. We then propose to integrate the concept of partial preemption to the MSPSP. This concept, which has not been yet studied in the scientific literature, implies that only a subset of resources is released during preemption periods. The resulting MSPSP with partial preemption (MSPSP-PP) is modelled using two methodologies: MILP and constraint programming. Regarding the industrial need of having good solutions in a short time, we also present a series of heuristics algorithms for the MSPSP-PP. First, we present a serial greedy algorithm, using priority rules and a flow problem for the allocation of technicians. To improve the solutions of the greedy algorithm, we present a binary-tree-based search algorithm and a greedy randomised adaptive search procedure. Finally, we present a large neighbourhood search algorithm, a hybrid procedure combining exact and heuristic methods. A mock-up of a Graphical User Interface, allowing the exploitation of the scheduling algorithms by the CEA is also presented

Abstract:
For years, corporations in the United States have criticized the native workforce for not having enough qualified workers who are skilled in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Changing the immigration system could solve their problem. Current debates about how to best accomplish this task stem from different perceptions of whether high-skill immigrants adapt to the labor market, suffer from labor market disadvantages or meet rapid earnings growth. This study examines the initial wage gap immigrants working in the scientific research, development and testing services industry face upon entry to the United States as well as their income assimilation patterns. Ultimately, this paper provides evidence of a wage gap in this industry for recently arrived immigrants and otherwise similar natives, as well as confirms that the earnings for male immigrants in the industry tend to converge toward native levels the longer they remain in the country. Therefore, these results can provide valuable perspective on present immigration debates about whether to reduce immigration levels or change the skill composition of new immigrants.

Abstract:
碩士
國立臺灣師範大學
體育研究所
87
Abstract This research is aimed to get the further understanding of those excellent professional tennis players whose skill patterns can serve us as a training reference. The following conclusion is drawn from the data analyzed synthetically from the international tennis tournament videotapes or personal viewing records. Although there are still quite a difference among professional tennis players’ technical patterns, they can still be classified based on the observation of those approach net style (whole court style included) and base line style players: On the one hand, the approach net style players often serve the ball with full wind-mill-type, pinpoint stance, front foot landing first, and 4-6 steps approaching net style to service line as a skill pattern set. They usually prefer one-hand and close-stance in backhand groundstroke. On the other hand, base-line style players often serve the ball with half-swing motion, platform stance, front foot landing first, and 3-steps back to service line as a skill pattern set. For two-handed backhand lady players, they prefer close-stance while men take close- and open-stance in turns. This study suggests that a coach be equipped with skill pattern assembling concepts when a player-training program is concerned. In the meantime, he/she should cultivate integrated and specialized programs in his/her mind. As to future research, this study suggests that it put the samples with common characteristics into detailed classification to test the coherence between theory and practice. It is trying to understand the new learning generalization situation versus previous learning experiences. The purpose is to help P.E. teachers and team coach to promote teaching effectiveness. Experiment research method was adopted to select 60 sixth-grade boys student in Taipei Wu-Hsing Primary School. There are three different groups as a control group A, experimental group B, and experimental group C. These three groups did dart throwing and basket ball set shot tests. Then, the data were analyzed by “SPSS 10.0 for window” software. It was observed that there is no significant progress when group A didn’t attend dart throwing training. Group B and C got significant differences after dart throwing training (p<.05). It means their capability can be promoted through the learning of dart throwing. After this test, all three groups did basket ball set shot again. There are big differences between them. It can be founded that group C is better than group B and group B is better than group A after comparison(p<.05). Besides, This can explain the exist of positive transfer between these two throwing stance. After this research, the boys with great fitness can perform better results than normal fitness boys. The more similar sport skill factors can help the transfer happen from old learning generalization to new learning much easier.

The main target group is the teachers in the play center and focus on the program teaching activity, mission or goal that they want to achieve, and the equipment they are using. The research was taking in the field between March (2014) to May (2014). After four months program observation, discussion, and analysis, the result is as following: I. The teachers in the play center believe that, Moto- skills development is very important for the children. It can have many different effects to children’s daily life. However, they need to add in their own experience and set up the correct environment to help the children. Also, when the teachers designing the program, they need to take following factors in to considerations: 1. Safety, 2. The order of program by different difficulty, 3. The connection between class to class activity experience, 4. The Encouragement to the children that encourage them finish the task by themselves, 5. Adjust the program any time by the result of observation in the class, 6. Program planning preparation, 7. Moto-Skill program and also include other children developing element. II. From analysis the programs design concept and how the program runs with the children by the teachers. The finding is that the teacher who running the program in class need to have following abilities: 1. Step by step, help the children practices in the class from easy to difficult and from simple to complicated, 2. The ability to encourage the children participate the program, 3. The ability to help the individual child in a group program without others notice or discriminate, 4. The ability to lead the program with the children. III. 博士
長榮大學
經營管理研究所
102
Political skills can be viewed as a kind of interpersonal social skills. The thesis aims to analyze the relationship between job characteristics and political skills. There are two parts in the present study. The first part is to explore how job characteristics influence political skill utilization through the point of view of social network; and the second part is to investigate the difference in political skill utilization between public and private sectors. The job characteristics include five dimensions: skill variety, task identity, task significance, autonomy, and feedback. There are four dimensions in political skills: social astuteness, interpersonal influence, networking ability, and apparent sincerity. The questionnaire survey was used in the study, and two sets of samples (n1=244, n2=177) were analyzed. The study used the first sample set (n1=244) to develop a 15-item political skill measurement scale from the 40-item political skill inventory pool. The measurement of job characteristics was developed based on the Job Diagnostic Survey. Subsequently, the study used the second sample set (n2=177) to examine the relationship between job characteristics and political skills. The two sets of samples were used together to investigate difference in political skill utilization between public and private sectors. Research findings reveal that employees are more likely to utilize political skills when they perceive higher in skill variety, task identity as well as task significance, and lower in autonomy and feedback of job characteristics. The utilization of political skills is significantly higher in public sectors than in provate sectors. The thesis contributes to the literature by taking job characteristics as the antecedent of political skills. The research results can provide some suggestions for managers in job design that may facilitate the management of political skills.

Abstract:
博士
國立體育大學
體育研究所
99
The people in Taiwan love badminton and often engaged in this movement. Long high serve(LHS) is the basic and important skill of playing badminton game. The purpose of this study was to explore the common characteristics of learners and individual differences to provide information for teachers. Ten 11-12 year-old elementary students as the experimental male participants (age 11.2 ± 0.5 years, height 141.9 ± 7.4 cm, weight 40.6 ± 11.5 kg). Participants received 40 minutes of 100 balls, twice a week for 8 weeks in LHS training. They have a serving test for 10 balls after they got training for a week. VICON motion capture system and 9 high-speed cameras were used to collect the LSH motion by 120Hz, and record the score of LSH by scoring sheets. After statiscal analysis with principal component analysis(PCA), one-way ANOVA repeated measure and Tukey’s post hoc procedure (α=.05) were applied, the results indicated that: First, participants practice after eight weeks, they got lots of significant improvments in serving performance. All of them achieve the goal of mastery movement. Second, 54-dimensional kinematic data points from 18 joints of each participant’s body can be reduced into 2-4 components, which can be described more than 90% of the variance of body movement. Third, most of participants have no significant differences in the number of principal components, but most participants in the first principal component explained the variance will be increased with practice time. Fourth, with the increased practice time, there are significant differences in some joints’ range of motion(ROM), angle velocity , and angle acceleration in the hand side which holding the racket. There are individual differences though the results of this study shows there is a major learning pattern. Thus the instructors should make the specific training schedule for the learners according to their personal abilities and learning paces.

Abstract:
碩士
淡江大學
教育科技學系碩士在職專班
95
Big Six Skills is a systematic teaching method in Thematic Exploration. However, while trying to apply Big6 Skills in teaching, the auther finds that elementary students are in lack of the ability to retrieve information, and hence have problems using the six skills to gather topic-based information. The purpose of this study is to apply Big6 Skills in teaching with Moodle Platform. It then investigates the implementation of Big6 Skills and students’ learning achievement. To serve this purpose, first the author has done a literature review to understand the Big6 Skills teaching methods and evaluation. Second, the author has studied on the application of Big6 Skills in teaching and students’ achievement through observation, and documents and records review in an action research. Finally, after reflections and discussions, amendments and suggestions for teaching are concluded. This study has found that students can only utilize Big6 Skills after trainings of the learning tools like concept map, website selection, and making a digest. With these trainings and the steps of Big6 Skills, most students can achieve well. Those who could not achieve the standard are only certain few students. Teachers can help students work more effectively and accurately by peer-observation (group to group), providing relative information and formats, interchanging qualitative and quantified evaluations, and finally examining, discussing and revising students’ work. Moreover, Moodle Platform can elevate students’ learning quality in the following aspects. Forums and document-editing tools provide students with fluent interactions and unique visual effects. Also, the records keeping students’ learning process and activities can help teachers observe and evaluate students’ performances. However, when using Moodle Platform, teachers should be aware of the system congestion and that the students might be lost on the Internet. Based on the researches and conclusions above, this study provides several suggestions for elementary school teachers and the future researchers for reference.

In order to survive and develop, these insurance companies would like to provoke their employees’ conscious about this crisis and to re-assess the goal and achievement for their organizations. The project is designed for assisting H Insurance Brokerage Company to process the intervention activity about the organizational transformation. Now-a-days most of the research topics about organizational transformation and development are focused on a big scale of structural convergence like system reengineering and strategic application or the research topics stress on the discussion about the effects element instead of the working process of organizational transformation execution. Therefore, the purpose of this thesis is taking H insurance Brokerage Company as an example to apply Quasi-Experimental method to do the case study on organizational transformation process and the changing situation of organizational efficiency after the intervention activity, which was based on the action research. Within one-year intervention process, this thesis is advanced with these three steps, searching for a fixed position, searching for a consensus, and developing the effective leadership. The production of these three steps is created for resolving the former problems and each of these steps includes “ to diagnose, to plan, to execute, to assess”. At the same time, the research methods such as observations, interviews, conference records and document files as well as Quantitative method, were applied, including twice survey collections, document assessment and analysis. Based on the result from the analysis of these required information, this thesis discovers: 1.Both participants’ ability and organizational performance are elevated through the research process of participatory activity. 2.This case-studied company re-news its location, develops its new goal, and completes its management tools like flowchart, system manual and operational manual after intervenient. 3.Both administrators and participants experienced this learning process of Learning- Internalization-action- improvement during the action research sessions. 4.Action research sessions allows both organization and its members to endlessly improve and develop within endlessly creative changing process.

Abstract:
碩士
臺北市立大學
音樂學系
104
Abstract This study aimed to design feasible ear training instruction for the “Life Curriculum” at the 1st-grade elementary school level. An action research approach was adopted with the qualitative data as the major resources while quantitative ones as the minor for analysis. The teaching subjects were the researcher’s 28 1st-grade students — 14 boys and 14 girls—from the Happy Elementary School ( pseudonym) in Taipei City. Music and ear training occupied only a relatively small proportion of class time in Life Curriculum. It thus resulted in students’ failing to master in beat precision or pitch identification. Besides, students tended to possess low learning motivation in related music theory teaching. These all led to low learning attitude or interest or even worse, failure for students to obtain proper development in ear training at this critical state. The researcher thus developed feasible ear training instructional content for the “Life Curriculum” at the 1st-grade elementary school level mainly based on Grade 1-9 Curriculum Guidelines as well as the 1993 Music Curriculum Standards. Instructional themes were planned and related games were designed. Instructional content covered rhythm identification knowledge and skills, duets teaching as well as recorder duets performances. Instructional content covered pitches, timbre, durations and tempo. Besides sessions for pretest and posttest, 12 lessons were implemented. Studying instruments consisted of “Pretest in Ear Training,” “Form for Students’ Music Learning Background,” “Form for Class Observation Record,” “Students’ Ear Training Study Sheer,” “Form for Students’ Feedback” as well as “Teachers’ Reflection Journal.” Conclusions were drawn as follows: Firstly, the instructional objectives of this study included the aural identification of environmental sounds and rhythm percussive instruments; the aural identification of the quarter note and the eighth note; as well as the aural identification and reading of the three notes Mi, Sol and La. Secondly, the ear training instruction involved multiple assisting approaches such as storybooks, concrete pictures, games, body movement, chanting rhythm, music maps and instrument ensemble. Thirdly, this study underwent a teaching process starting from timbre, duration, tempo and pitch. Fourthly, regarding the teaching effectiveness of this study, students were found to progress in their sensitivity toward music in terms of the affective domain; cognition-wise, students learned to identify between the musical elements of timbre, duration, tempo and pitch. However, students did not perform well regarding the acting out of precise rhythm and pitch, which the researcher suspected having something to do with the short instructing time. Lastly, the action research process of designing, implementing, reflecting and revising ear training curriculum helped foster the researcher’s professional development. The researcher, based on the research process and findings, proposed related suggestions for references. Keywords: ear training instruction, curricular action research, Life Curriculum

碩士
國立臺東大學
體育學系碩士班
105
The purpose of this research is to use the idea of Flipped Classroom to develop a program for teaching surfing skills. Study and discuss the possible problems and challenges that might be encountered during the process, and compare the result of general teaching group and flipped classroom group. Analyzing mainly rely on Action Research supplemented by Experiment Research, and divided into Pilot Study and Formal Study. Take the 43 college students who took general education PE course as object, and randomly dispatch them to general teaching group (N = 20) and flipped classroom group (N = 23). The research period was set from March to June, 2017. By collecting literature searches and pilot study to design the teaching program of surfing skill flipped classroom and make it into a flipped classroom video. Judged by the performance of the movement and skill to evaluate the result of flipped classroom. Use Independent-Sample T Test to analyze the skill check difference between flipped classroom group and general teaching group. Through learning process, we were able to learn the learners’ thoughts on the course contents, and difficulties as well as solutions to the problems they encountered while learning surfing skills. Discoveries from the result : The result of the skill check in calm water area : flipped classroom group (M=87.5 SD=2.67)is obviously better than general teaching group (M=82.97 SD=4.76)(t=3.24 ,p<.05). The surfing takeoff success rate in the open water area : flipped classroom group (M=81.33 SD=9.90)also has obvious better result than general teaching group(M=70.00 SD=13.17)(t=2.69 ,p<.05). To learn how to see and choose waves are the hardest part to learners while learning surfing skills. But through watching video feedbacks will allow learners to see their problems more precisely and thus, able to correct. Surfing skill learning will not only bring progress to the learners’ skill performance but also bring them spiritual growth.

Abstract:
碩士
國立臺灣師範大學
特殊教育學系
105
The purposes of this action research were to explore the learning effects on social skill curriculum for the students with disabilities and the professional growth of the teachers participated in this study. The subjects were three elementary students with disabilities who had social skill deficits and received resource room teaching. Interviews and checklists were administered to find out the subjects’ present social skill abilities first. Then the following teachings were implemented: (1) A cognitive-behavioral social skill curriculum was taught to these three target subjects in the resource room by the special education teacher; and (2) the special education and the general education teachers assisted subjects to generalize the social skills taught at the resource room in their regular classrooms through co-teaching and collaborative consultation. During the whole action research period, the researcher applied interviews, observations, and unobtrusive measures to collect data continuously. The main findings were as follows. 1. The special education and the general education teachers could overcome the challenges of cooperation by keeping formally and informally communications at the exploratory stage, compromising stage, and advancing stage. Furthermore, teachers reported that subjects’ social skills improved and could generalize them in regular settings. 2. At the exploratory stage, the special education teacher provided positive and active attitudes to the general education teachers for solving the conflicts and setting of clear boundaries. While at the compromising stage, both of them compromised and cooperated to solve problems for all students’ learning benefits. At the final advancing stage, the special education teacher faded co-teaching to cooperative consultations gradually. They helped subjects to use self-control, self- adjustment strategies, and arranged some classmates helping subjects to solve interpersonal conflicts and develop friendships. 3. Utilizing comprehensive social skill teachings with cognitive-behavioral social skill curriculum, co-teaching, and collaborative consultation together could promote generalization for all three subjects. Also, the research results had good social validities. 4. Six graders’ learning effects on social skill teachings were greater than those of the fourth graders. In addition, the better the special and regular teachers cooperated, the more progress the students with disabilities had. 5. The social skill teachings could promote more than 80% social skills related to emotional and pressure management, approximately 70% social skills related to interpersonal relationships, and about 75% social skills related to environmental adaptations. 6. The general education teachers acquired professional growth in problem behavior treatment and curricular modifications. They thought that the cooperation between general and special education teachers was very important of social skills’ generalizations for students with disabilities and were more willing to cooperate with special education teachers in the future. 7. The special education teacher acquired professional growth in social skill teachings and teacher cooperation. Also, the researcher found that the social skill teachings brought general education teachers and the subjects’ classmates positive attitudes toward students with disabilities. Finally, some suggestions were made based on the above findings for future teaching and research.

Abstract:
碩士
國立臺南大學
數位學習科技學系碩士在職專班
106
This study mainly discusses about the difference among the traditional flashcards, projectors, and new technology mediums of Tablet PC and 3D panoramic computer skill, and sees the effects by comparing with them. Although these technology equipments have been designed for many years, most of them have beem used on games. For instance, lots of companies have competition between the skills of AR and VR. In the English teaching area, it's not common to see those technology skills or the programs of the games using in the real teaching classes from some research papers. Even if some classes have been used these computer skills in teaching, there are some issues between advantage and disadvantage, positive and negative. Nowadays, the 3D panoramic computer skill is in widespread used for the on-line tour in many museums around the world. However, most of the service skills are limited to operate singly or by one person. The operator browse the websites randomly without having the self-learning situation. The main reason that the 3D panoramic computer skill is suitable for using in the English teaching area is as follows: First, students can observe all the different places in detail as they're on the spot. From the whole place to the partial place and in different angles, students can see the different objects which can't not see in the normal picture of the book. Second, learner can have self-learning via this technology skills, and they might have more interactive dialogue with the others. Moreover, it is worthy to discuss and realize further whether students can increase their learning motivation and interests. Through the process of the research and compare the students who use 3D panoramic computer skill and equipment with those students who use the traditional flashcard or projectors, we can see the data that students' learning motivation is much better, even with obvious and positive effects in the learning effects and learning willing. However, in some part of the research data, a few students who learn with the traditional teaching methods are better than those who learn with the 3D panoramic computer skill. The main reason for them to rank high in the test in the classes is that they join the cram schools to learn, practice, and recite over and over again, not learn out of highly motivated self-learning. Notwithstanding those particular results, it's helpful for students to increase their learning motivation through 3D panoramic computer skill and environment via the database of the research.

Graff, Zachary Arthur. "Focal points: affecting undergraduates' scientific literacy through a three-skill intervention." Thesis, 2016. https://hdl.handle.net/2144/16733.

Full text
Abstract:
Undergraduate science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education has been receiving a great deal of attention. Stakeholders in government as well as academic institutions recognize the significance of educational reform in STEM fields to improve student engagement, retention and proficiency. Boston University, through partnership with the Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching and Learning (CIRTL), offers graduate students the opportunity to perform an educational research project in a STEM course in the Teaching-as-Research (TAR) Fellowship. The main goal of a TAR project is to identify educational interventions that improve student outcomes. This study, being a TAR project, examines how scientific literacy of undergraduates enrolled in Introduction to Neuroscience (NE 101) at Boston University changes over the course of a semester in response to a three-skill intervention. Scientific literacy, broadly defined as the ability to leverage evidence and data to interpret scientific research and evaluate the significance of conclusions, has been promoted by academic institutions by some time. Be that as it may, best practices for teaching scientific literacy and standardized methods of measurement have yet to be explicitly outlined. There are, however, validated paradigms that are gaining momentum: The integrated STEM education model and the Test of Scientific Literacy Skills (TOSLS). Integrated STEM education incorporates multiple academic disciplines (within and outside STEM fields) and promotes application of knowledge to solving real-world problems. The TOSLS is an assessment tool in sync with this educational model; its purpose is to gauge students’ proficiency in nine key skills of scientific literacy by posing questions that require students to implement these skills in meaningful scenarios. In this study, I used a subset of the scientific literacy skills outlined in the TOSLS to design curriculum for the discussion component of NE 101. I also used pre- and post-intervention adaptations of the TOSLS for measuring students’ achievement of scientific literacy in addition to weekly quiz questions. However, another focus of this study was to highlight changes in students’ motivation and attitudes toward scientific inquiry pre- to post-intervention. Research conducted by Carberry et al. suggests that employing a variety of quantitative and qualitative measurements provides a more holistic picture of students’ learning. To this end, two focus groups were held and a post-course discussion survey was deployed at the end of the course. The quantitative and qualitative data collected from these instruments indicate vital points for STEM educators to consider when designing and implementing course curriculum, especially those courses oriented toward promoting scientific literacy in their student population. Major considerations include: 1. Design problem-based activities that integrate multiple scientific literacy skills 2. Incorporate scientific literature from non-primary sources and that is representative of students’ interests 3. Develop students’ competency in reading primary scientific literature by gradually increasing the difficulty of material 4. Provide students with an intuitive and explicit framework for deciphering primary scientific literature 5. Use formative assessment to identify students’ strengths and challenges; leverage strengths to improve upon areas of difficulty

Abstract:
碩士
國立臺中教育大學
教師專業碩士學位學程
105
Learners’ learning abilities are varied from each other due to their individual backgrounds. In the differentiated instructions, instructors should take each learner’s differences into consideration and focus on learners’ entry behavior and learning efficiency to facilitate learners’ learning with multiple instructions. The researcher aimed to apply play-oriented strategies in differentiated instruction to sharpen learners’ interval and aural skills and assist learners to do adaptive self-learning and increase their learning motivations. To facilitate learners’ learning, the researcher aimed to investigate the process of differentiated instructions employed in improving fifth graders’ interval aural skills and further explored researcher’s teaching reflections on utilizing the differentiated instructions. On the basis of previous literature review, an action research method was introduced, as a proposal of differentiated instruction which was implemented to fifth graders’ interval and aural learning in the elementary school in southern Taiwan. The research tools included research-developed lesson plan, observation form, teaching reflections, and interval and aural tests. And also discussing with scholars and collaborative teachers. The experimental instruction included six units in fourteen class periods lasted for seven weeks. Learners took the pre- and post of unit assessment at the first and the last periods. This study went through conception stage and action stage, repeatedly revising and re-implementing based on the observing forms and reflections in order to accomplish the whole action research. During the process of differentiated instruction, learners were grouped homogeneously first and further grouped heterogeneously based on their basic music competency and interval as well as aural abilities to increase the effects on learning interval and aural. The data were then analyzed with triangulation to increase the reliability and validity. This study aimed to investigate the process of differentiated instructions employed in improving fifth graders’ interval aural skills and further explored researcher’s teaching reflections on utilizing the differentiated instructions. The result revealed that play-oriented strategies and grouping in differentiated instruction facilitate learners’ interval and aural learning included unison, second, third, and sixth interval. The results and major findings were summarized as follows: 1. Play-oriented strategies stimulated learners’ interest through homogeneous and heterogeneous grouping. 2. Differentiated instructions posed positive influence on fifth graders’ interval and aural learning outcomes. In particular, learners improved the most on listening and recognizing unison, second, third, and sixth interval in melodic and harmonic intervals. The experimental teaching posed positive influence on pupils' learning outcomes. However, the cultivation of interval and aural skills took long time for achieving the goal of being sensitive in aural skills.

Abstract:
碩士
國立臺灣師範大學
工業教育研究所
88
The purpose of this study was to investigate the instruction achievement of computer assisted instruction(CAI) on digital circuit skill instruction, with TINA, EWB and a self-developed multimedia system as skill instruction courseware. The nonequivalent pretest-posttest design is used to test the effectiveness of two new CAI methods. Electronic Workbench (EWB) is a simulation training system, and Toolkit for Interactive Network Analysis (TINA) is a training system with additional test cards. Both of EWB and TINA systems were developed for digital circuit training. Thirty six students were selected from Taipei Municipal Sung-Shan Vocational Industrial-Agricultural School as experimental objects. They were divided into two groups. The experimental group used TINA system and the comparison group used EWB system for studying digital circuit skill. The achievement of knowledge and skill in both two groups were evaluated through the posttest. The retention test was given to the students three times week after week to check their learning condition. The results of this research was summaried as the followings; 1.In knowledge studying, there is no significant difference between experimental group and comparison group;but in skill learning, there is significance between these two groups. The achievement of experimental group is higher than the comparison group. Therefore the effectiveness of EWB is no less than that of TINA in knowledge instruction, and the effectiveness of TINA is higher than that of EWB in skill learning. 2. The satisfaction of experimental group is higher than comparison group in courseware and environment design. The students preferred to study skill with both hands and brain. 3. In the retention of knowledge and skill abilities, there is no significant difference between experimental group and comparison group. But the average score of experimental group is higher than that of comparison group. Therefore the retention of learning system with both hands and brain is better than that of a pure simulation learning system on digital circuit skill instruction. Keywords: computer assisted instruction(CAI), TINA, EWB, digital circuit learning, retention.
