Abstract:
Research skills are one of the skills that exist in educational goals, research skills must be possessed to be able to face the 21st century. Research skills of students in Indonesia are still in the low category, this is evidenced by research that has been conducted by previous researchers with an average score -average 68.5 out of 100 points. This study aims to determine the research skill profile of students in one of the MAN schools in Sukabumi City. This study used a descriptive method, the subjects in this study were class XI students, totaling 22 students, determined by a sampling technique, namely purposive sampling. The instruments used were an attitude scale for research skills, and a Research Skill Development (RSD) assessment rubric. The results showed that students' research skill profiles were in the good category with an average score on the attitude scale of 83 ± 6.2% and on the practicum report 71 ± 8.5%. Therefore, it can be seen that the research skills profile of students using the guided inquiry learning model integrated with the Research Skill Development (RSD) Framework in this study is in the good category.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to conduct an in-depth analysis of the literature and provide new insights on skill development research in India. Objectives in the study are twofold. First is to conduct descriptive analysis in terms of structural dimensions such as geographical context, focus on skill development, research methods, economic sector, type of training and origin of the study. The second objective is to conduct thematic analysis on importance of skill development, institutional and regulatory mechanisms, skill development as an antecedent for technology adoption, role of skill development in women empowerment, integrating skill development with secondary education and labour market reforms for skill development. Design/methodology/approach Systematic literature review method is employed to review 45 articles on skill development research in India conducted between 2004 and 2017. Findings The review discusses about the importance of skill development, the role of institutions such as NSDA and PMKVJ, skill development as a necessity in the advent of technological changes, an effective measure to empower women in the country and the need of integrating skill development with secondary education. Labour market reforms are required to overcome challenges such as mismatch between theory and practice, low quality of skills assimilated, the mismatch between demand and supply of skilled labour force, low level of in-house training, low cooperation from students and employees due to lack of incentives and lack of qualified teachers. Originality/value This study is the first to offer a systematic literature review on skill development. The study provides insights into the concept of skill development, specifically for academicians to carry out research in a niche area and for government authorities in policy formulation.

Abstract:
The thinking required by higher education student engagement in research processes may segue into the development of students’ work skills, enabling them to professionally transition to the workforce. However, although this transition may be facilitated before and during Work Integrated Learning [WIL] experiences, there is typically a gulf between the skills taught in higher education and skill requirements of industry. To address these challenges faced by WIL, and to connect students more effectively with contemporary and future employer needs, the first objective of this paper is to provide an overview of the use of a validated generic employability framework, the Work Skills Development [WSD] framework, and the second objective is to provide evidence about the framework’s effectiveness when used to articulate work skills and student autonomy. This overview of the WSD and its uses contributes to WIL pedagogy and has direct applicability to tertiary educators’ contribution to the development of student work mindset to bridge the gap between tertiary institutions and industry requirements.

Abstract:
Fieldwork plays a crucial role in developing students' research skills by bridging theoretical knowledge with practical application. Despite its importance, challenges remain in effectively integrating fieldwork into geography education to maximize student learning outcomes. This study aims to address this gap by identifying effective strategies for enhancing research skills through field-based activities. A mixed-methods approach was employed, utilizing both quantitative and qualitative research techniques to analyze survey responses from 94 students. Research skill development activities were conducted both in and out of the classroom, and students' performance was assessed using survey-based evaluation tasks. The findings indicate a significant difference in research skill development between the control and experimental groups (U=385.00; p<.05), demonstrating the positive impact of structured fieldwork. Additionally, male students exhibited a faster and more accurate progression in research-related activities compared to female students. Standard deviation values of development indicators further supported these findings, highlighting key differences in skill acquisition. These results provide a foundation for refining fieldwork-based instructional methods, contributing to both theoretical advancements in geography education and practical improvements in teaching approaches.

Abstract:
Although higher education aims to provide holistic learning and career preparation, there is growing skepticism about its value, with segments of the public scrutinizing concerns about tuition, student loan debt, and job prospects. Between 2015 and 2020, Florida Gulf Coast University implemented a quality enhancement plan (FGCUScholars) that worked to integrate undergraduate research throughout the curriculum to enhance career-ready transferable skills in response to institutional assessments and employer feedback. Results from annual assessments indicated that research participants demonstrated higher skill levels relative to students who completed alternative capstones. Furthermore, continual exposure to research skills throughout the four-year curriculum and emphasis on information literacy led to higher skill levels. This study highlights some positive impacts of undergraduate research on transferable skills, emphasizing their relevance across disciplines.

Abstract:
To carry out their roles, first responders need to have appropriate skills. It is important to identify and train in key skills appropriate for the tasks that first responders will perform. Once these skills have been acquired, they need to be maintained otherwise they will decay to the point where performance of the skill is no longer acceptable. This means that emergency services organisations need programs that appropriately maintain the skills of their volunteers and employees. To deliver cost-effective training, these organisations need a good understanding of what key skills are required for tasks that are regularly performed, why and how quickly these skills decay and how these skills can be maintained. To help emergency services organisations better understand these important concepts, this paper reviews relevant literature on skill decay and skill maintenance. Task decomposition methods and training needs analysis are introduced to assist organisations determine what key skills they require. This provides information to make sound, evidence-based decisions about recurrent training programs that can maintain the skills required by first responders and retain efficacy in the organisation.

Researchers use various skills in their works, such as writing, data analysis and experiments design. These research skills have greatly influenced the quality of their research outputs, as well as their scientific impact. Although many indicators have been proposed to quantify the impact of researchers, studies of evaluating their scientific research skills are very rare. In this paper, we analyze the factors affecting researchers’ skill ranking and propose a new model based on hypergraph theory to evaluate the scientific research skills. To validate our skill ranking model, we perform experiments on the PLOS ONE dataset and compare the rank of researchers’ skills with their papers’ citation counts and h-index. Finally, we analyze the patterns about how researchers’ skill ranking increased over time. Our studies also show the change patterns of researchers between different skills.

Abstract:
A key part of keeping doctoral and postdoctoral trainees in STEM research careers is mentoring. Our previous research indicates that mentoring trainees in scientific communication (SC) skill development increases research career intention through two social-cognitive constructs, self-efficacy in and outcome expectations for acquiring SC skills, as well as science identity. While many mentor training interventions exist, no programs focus on developing SC skills specifically. The “Scientific Communication Advances Research Excellence” (SCOARE) program trains mentors to address trainee scientific communication (SC) skill development as an innovative approach to increase trainee research career persistence. The SCOARE training is a half-day workshop for faculty mentors of research trainees at five sites nationally. Informed by previous research, workshop content focuses on practical, effective mentoring strategies to develop trainee speaking and writing skills. Anonymous evaluation data collected after each workshop indicates participant satisfaction and reported positive increases in skills and knowledge in applying new and various techniques when mentoring trainees (skills) and how linguistic bias influences our perception of others (knowledge). This article outlines the research-based development of the SCOARE program, the first two years’ of workshop evaluations showing positive increases in skills and knowledge, and lessons learned to increase participant satisfaction with the program.
