Wolowic, Jennifer. "Research tools or collaborative toys? cameras and participatory research with youth." Thesis, University of British Columbia, 2008. http://hdl.handle.net/2429/1601.

Abstract:
My participatory photography and video project with a First Nations teen drop in center in Northern British Columbia has revealed the benefits of viewing cameras as toys through which community-based research projects can actively engage the world rather than as tools for authoritative observers. The interactive play between the instant feed back of digital cameras placed in youths’ hands creates relationships that allow for the exploration of delicate subjects and intimate moments captured on video. The display of meanings constructed through visual images reveal powerful possibilities for visual research methodologies used in collaborative research.

Pigion, Richard G. "Optimum magnification and perspective for non-single-lens-reflex camera systems." Diss., Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, 1989. http://hdl.handle.net/10919/54790.

Full text
Abstract:
The primary purpose of this investigation was to determine how magnification and perspective alter a person's judgements of pleasantness for images recorded in photographic prints. The magnification and perspective of four scenes were varied by recording each scene with each of six camera-lens focal lengths (28 mm, 35 mm, 50 mm, 70 mm, 85 mm, and 105 mm) from each of six distances. The distances revolved around a reference distance depending on scene content. The scenes were selected to be typical of the types of one person or multi-person scenes recorded most often by consumers of non-single-lens-reflex (non-SLR) 35 mm camera systems. The psychophysical scaling technique of magnitude estimation was used to assess each subjects' degree of pleasantness for each print in a single stimulus presentation format. The subjects were actual consumers of non-SLR camera systems. The results indicate that a wide variety of lens/distance combinations was found to produce pleasing images for each scene. Specifically, the combination of lens/distance which was representative of currently available non-SLR camera systems was almost always among the highest rated images for each scene. This result indicates that these consumers are quite pleased with the images they currently receive. These results are most easily explained using the theory of a compensation mechanism of picture perception. Suggestions for future research include the study of range effects, different methods of assessment, and attempts at understanding the emotional impact of photographs and how it relates to judgements of pleasantness.<br>Ph. Can, Ozgun Emre. "Camera Trapping Large Mammals In Yenice Forest Habitats: A Feasibility Study For Camera Trapping Large Mammals In Yenice Forests, Turkey." Phd thesis, METU, 2008. http://etd.lib.metu.edu.tr/upload/3/12609974/index.pdf.

Abstract:
Widely applicable, quantitative field methods are needed to gather wildlife data for conservation and management initiatives in Turkey. In order to evaluate the use of camera traps in forest habitats of Turkey, we conducted a 5 phase camera trap survey by using 16 passive infrared-triggered cameras with a total sampling effort of 1200 camera trap days in Yaylacik Research Forest, a 50 km2 forest patch of Yenice Forest in Karab&uuml<br>k during January-May 2006. The camera trap survey confirmed the presence of grey wolf (Canis lupus), brown bear (Ursus arctos), wildcat (Felis silvestris), red fox (Vulpes vulpes), badger (Meles meles), pine marten (Martes martes), roe deer (Capreolus capreolus) and wild boar (Sus scrofa) in the study area. The camera trap survey also revealed the presence of jackal (Canis aureus) and brown hare (Lepus europaeus), whose presence were not known by people living and working in the area. Contrary to the local belief, neither camera trapping survey nor ground survey confirmed the presence of lynx (Lynx lynx) in Yaylacik Research Forest. The wolf was observed to be crepuscular and the wildcat showed a diurnal activity pattern. Wildcat seemed to avoid other carnivores spatially and temporally. Simulation studies suggested that camera trap surveys should last 14 days for wolf, 13 days for wildcat, 10 days for pine marten, and 11 days for roe deer, while it is advisable to conduct longer surveys, probably 15-20 days, for wild boar, red fox and brown bears. The estimated population size for wildcat was 9 (SE=2.28227) with 95% confidence interval of 9 to 25 in the study area. A minimum of 6 brown bears were present in the study area. Our study indicated that the local knowledge about the presence of wildlife should be considered by researchers, but it cannot replace scientific surveys conducted by field biologists. This study was the first attempt to assess the presence, relative abundance, activity patterns and diversity of multiple mammal species by the use of camera trapping methodology in Turkey. The results suggest that camera trap surveys have the potential for gathering wildlife data at larger scales in Turkey, where information gap on large mammals is an obstacle for effective management and conservation of mammals.

Irie, Kenji. "Noise-limited scene-change detection in images." Diss., Lincoln University, 2009. http://hdl.handle.net/10182/1351.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis describes the theoretical, experimental, and practical aspects of a noise-limited method for scene-change detection in images. The research is divided into three sections: noise analysis and modelling, dual illumination scene-change modelling, and integration of noise into the scene-change model. The sources of noise within commercially available digital cameras are described, with a new model for image noise derived for charge-coupled device (CCD) cameras. The model is validated experimentally through the development of techniques that allow the individual noise components to be measured from the analysis of output images alone. A generic model for complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) cameras is also derived. Methods for the analysis of spatial (inter-pixel) and temporal (intra-pixel) noise are developed. These are used subsequently to investigate the effects of environmental temperature on camera noise. Based on the cameras tested, the results show that the CCD camera noise response to variation in environmental temperature is complex whereas the CMOS camera response simply increases monotonically. A new concept for scene-change detection is proposed based upon a dual illumination concept where both direct and ambient illumination sources are present in an environment, such as that which occurs in natural outdoor scenes with direct sunlight and ambient skylight. The transition of pixel colour from the combined direct and ambient illuminants to the ambient illuminant only is modelled. A method for shadow-free scene-change is then developed that predicts a pixel's colour when the area in the scene is subjected to ambient illumination only, allowing pixel change to be distinguished as either being due to a cast shadow or due to a genuine change in the scene. Experiments on images captured in controlled lighting demonstrate 91% of scene-change and 83% of cast shadows are correctly determined from analysis of pixel colour change alone. A statistical method for detecting shadow-free scene-change is developed. This is achieved by bounding the dual illumination model by the confidence interval associated with the pixel's noise. Three benefits arise from the integration of noise into the scene-change detection method: - The necessity for pre-filtering images for noise is removed; - All empirical thresholds are removed; and - Performance is improved. The noise-limited scene-change detection algorithm correctly classifies 93% of scene-change and 87% of cast shadows from pixel colour change alone. When simple post-analysis size-filtering is applied both these figures increase to 95%.

Abstract:
Finalmente, se presentan las aportaciones de la investigación con cámaras para la práctica psicosocial.<br>This thesis aims to present the possibilities and limits on the use of the camera and the images in research and social intervention, both as a research tool and a format to communicate the research experience with others. It focuses on the emergence of camera and photographic image and its implications in the context of positivist science, as an ally to the interests of the apprehension of reality and an instrument connected to the aims of objectivity and neutrality in social research. Subsequently, we explore other research practices and modalities with video camera that question the representative and documentary approach in the field of audiovisual, closer to reflective, participatory and deconstructive perspectives in social research. The study was based on revision and analysis of literature in the field of audiovisual ethnographic research and a filmic documentation, La Fiesta del Límber, about community mobilization in the context of land rescues in Ceiba and Naguabo, Puerto Rico, which can be accessed at http://youtu.be/Vgy2SAb1UIY. Abstract:
Knowledge of the richness of species that inhabit a particular area is an essential metric for both conservationists and practitioners. Relatively cost-efficient and easily standardized solution has occurred in last the decades with the massive digitalization of photography, the camera trap. Such an independent detector is bias-free in the probability of recording objects passing by and in most cases does not disturb animals. Recent discoveries of new mammal species are proof of this. Moreover, camera traps allow for insight into the otherwise hidden behaviour of even the most timid animals. My interest in photography, endangered animal species and nature conservation has led me to the decision to apply a novel method in practice. Me and my team have focused on three different use-confirmation of the accuracy of capture-recapture population estimates, temporal overlaps of invasive species with its prey and competitors, and first ever camera-trapping species inventory in the Niokolo-Koba National Park. Thanks to personal experiences and contacts from World biodiversity hotspots I was able to successfully employ an approach and carry out field studies. I hope that our results will contribute to the development of effective conservation strategies and the methodology itself.

Abstract:
A major disadvantage of shooting on green screen with CGI is that the director cannot see or interact with the virtual elements in the scene and thus get a realistic view of how the end result will look like, and also not being able to make changes as necessary by moving objects and actors around during the shooting session. This disadvantage can be mitigated by the use of previsualization where the director is given a rough take of what the final cut will look like by combining the filmed material with the virtual environment in real-time. This master’s thesis work aims to come up with solutions for improving the film studio Stiller Studios’s previsualization system. This involves a review and integration of game engines for previsualization in a motion control green screen studio, a camera calibration process with blur detection and automatic selection of images as well as research into camera tracking and depth compositing.

Abstract:
The automation revolution already helps in many tasks that are now performed by robots.  Increases in the complexity of problems regarding robot manipulators require new approaches or alternatives in order to solve them. This project comprises a research in different available software for implementing easy and fast visual servoing tasks controlling a robot manipulator. It focuses on out-of-the-box solutions. Then, the tools found are applied to implement a solution for controlling an arm from Universal Robots. The task is to follow a moving object on a plane with the robot manipulator. The research compares the most popular software, the state-of-the-art alternatives, especially in computer vision and also robot control. The implementation aims to be a proof of concept of a system divided by each functionality (computer vision, path generation and robot control) in order to allow software modularity and exchangeability. The results show various options for each system to take into consideration. The implementation is successfully completed, showing the efficiency of the alternatives examined. The chosen software is MATLAB and Simulink for computer vision and trajectory calculation interfacing with Robotic Operating System (ROS). ROS is used for controlling a UR3 arm using ros_control and ur_modern_driver packages.  Both the research and the implementation present a first approach for further applications and understanding over the current technologies for visual servoing tasks. These alternatives offer different easy, fast, and flexible methods to confront complex computer vision and robot control problems.

Berndt, Lisa A. "The effect of floral resources on the leafroller (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae) parasitoid Dolichogenidea tasmanica (Cameron)(Hymenoptera: Braconidae) in selected New Zealand vineyards." Lincoln University, 2002. http://hdl.handle.net/10182/1045.

Full text
Abstract:
In this study, buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentum Moench) and alyssum (Lobularia maritima (L.)) flowers were used to examine the effect of floral resources on the efficacy of the leafroller parasitoid Dolichogenidea tasmanica (Cameron) in vineyards. This was done by assessing the influence of these flowers on parasitoid abundance and parasitism rate, and by investigating the consequences of this for leafroller abundance. In laboratory experiments, alyssum flowers were used to investigate the effect of floral food on the longevity, fecundity and sex ratio of D. tasmanica. Dolichogenidea tasmanica comprised more than 95 % of parasitoids reared from field collected leafrollers in this study. The abundance of D. tasmanica during the 1999-2000 growing season was very low compared with previous studies, possibly due to the very low abundance of its leafroller hosts during the experiment. The number of males of this species on yellow sticky traps was increased (although not significantly) when buckwheat flowers were planted in a Marlborough vineyard; however, the number of female D. tasmanica on traps was no greater with flowers than without. The abundance of another leafroller parasitoid, Glyptapanteles demeter (Wilkinson)(Hymenoptera: Braconidae), on traps was also not significantly affected by the presence of buckwheat flowers, although females of this species were caught in greater numbers in the control than in buckwheat plots. Naturally-occurring leafrollers were collected from three vineyard sites in Marlborough, and one in Canterbury during the 2000-2001 season to assess the effect of buckwheat and alyssum flowers on parasitism rate. Parasitism rate more than doubled in the presence of buckwheat at one of the Marlborough vineyards, but alyssum had no effect on parasitism rate in Canterbury. A leafroller release/recover method, used when naturally-occurring leafrollers were too scarce to collect, was unable to detect any effect of buckwheat or alyssum on parasitism rate. Mean parasitism rates of approximately 20 % were common in Marlborough, although rates ranged from 0 % to 45 % across the three vineyard sites in that region. In Canterbury in April, mean parasitism rates were approximately 40 % (Chapter 4). Rates were higher on upper canopy leaves (40-60 %) compared with lower canopy leaves and bunches (0-25 %). Leafroller abundance was apparently not affected by the presence of buckwheat in Marlborough, or alyssum in Canterbury. Buckwheat did, however, significantly reduce the amount of leafroller evidence (webbed leafroller feeding sites on leaves or in bunches) in Marlborough, suggesting that the presence of these flowers may reduce leafroller populations. Leafrollers infested less than 0.1 % of Cabernet Sauvignon leaves throughout the 1999-2000 growing season, but increased in abundance in bunches to infest a maximum of 0.5 % of bunches in late March in Marlborough. In Pinot Noir vines in the 2000-2001 season, leafroller abundance was also low, although sampling was not conducted late in the season when abundance reaches a peak. In Riesling vines in Canterbury, between 1.5 % and 2.5 % of bunches were infested with leafrollers in April. In the laboratory, alyssum flowers significantly increased the longevity and lifetime fecundity of D. tasmanica compared with a no-flower treatment. However, daily fecundity was not increased by the availability of food, suggesting that the greater lifetime fecundity was related to increases in longevity. Parasitoids were also able to obtain nutrients from whitefly honeydew, which resulted in similar longevity and daily fecundity to those when alyssum flowers were present. The availability of food had a significant effect on the offspring sex ratio of D. tasmanica. Parasitoids reared from naturally-occurring leafrollers produced an equal sex ratio, assumed to be the evolutionarily stable strategy (ESS) for this species. In the laboratory, this ESS was observed only when parasitoids had access to alyssum flowers. Without food, or with honeydew only, sex ratios were strongly male-biased. In the field, floral resources affected the sex ratio of D. tasmanica only when this species was reared from leafrollers released and recovered in Marlborough. In that experiment, buckwheat shifted the sex ratio in favour of female production from the equal sex ratio found in control plots. No firm explanations can be given to account for these results, due to a lack of research in this area. Possible mechanisms for the changes in sex ratio with flowers are discussed. This study demonstrated that flowers are an important source of nutrients for D. tasmanica, influencing the longevity, fecundity and offspring sex ratio of this species. However, only some of the field experiments were able to show any positive effect of the provision of floral resources on parasitoid abundance or parasitism rate. More information is needed on the role these parasitoids, and other natural enemies, play in regulating leafroller populations in New Zealand vineyards, and on how they use floral resources in the field, before recommendations can be made regarding the adoption of this technology by growers.

Irvin, N. A. "Understorey management for the enhancement of populations of a leafroller (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae) parasitoid (Dolichogenidea tasmanica (Cameron)) in Canterbury, New Zealand apple orchards." Lincoln University, 1999. http://hdl.handle.net/10182/1111.

Full text
Abstract:
This study investigated understorey management in Canterbury, New Zealand, apple orchards for the enhancement of populations of Dolichogenidea tasmanica (Cameron) (Braconidae) for leafroller (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae) biological control. The first objective was to determine the influence of understorey plants on the abundance of D. tasmanica and leafroller parasitism, and to investigate the mechanisms behind this influence. The second was to determine the most suitable understorey plants in terms of their ability to enhance parasitoid abundance, leafroller parasitism, parasitoid longevity, parasitoid fecundity and its ability to not benefit leafroller. Results from three consecutive field trials showed that buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentum Moench), coriander (Coriandrum sativum L.), alyssum (Lobularia maritima (L.) Desv), and, to a lesser extent, broad bean (Vicia faba L.), enhanced parasitoid abundance and leafroller parasitism. The mechanisms behind the effects of understorey plants had previously been unexplored. However, results here showed that it was the flowers or the buckwheat that 'attracted' the parasitoid to the plant and not the shelter, aphids or microclimate that the plant may also provide. Providing flowering plants in the orchard understorey also increased immigration of parasitoids and enhanced parasitoids and enhanced parasitoid longevity and fecundity in the laboratory. In contrast, the understorey plants had no influence on the female:male ratio of D. tasmanica. Although coriander enhanced leafroller parasitism three-fold in field experiments compared with controls, it failed to enhance the longevity of both sexes of D. tasmanica in the laboratory compared with water-only. Broad bean significantly enhanced parasitoid abundance three-fold and significantly increased parasitism from 0% to 75% compared with the controls on one leafroller release date. However, laboratory trials showed that of male D. tasmancia but it did not enhance female longevity. Also, female D. tasmanica foraging on broad bean produced a total of only three parasitoid cocoons, but this result was based on an overall 6.5% survival of larvae to pupae or to parasitoid cocoon. Furthermore, results suggested that extrafloral nectar secretion decreased as the plants matured. Phacelia (Phacelia tanacetifolia Benth.) did not significantly enhance parasitism rate in the field compared with controls, and numbers of D. tasmanica captured by suction sampling were significantly lower in phacelia treatments compared with alyssum, buckwheat and control plots. Also, laboratory experiments showed that survival of D. tasmanica on phacelia flowers was equivalent to that on water-only and significantly lower than on buckwheat. These results suggest that phacelia does not provide nectar to D. tasmanica, only pollen, and therefore is not a suitable understorey plant for D. tasmanica enhancement in orchards. Buckwheat and alyssum showed the most potential as understorey plants for the enhancement of natural enemies. Buckwheat not only increased numbers of D. tasmanica seven-fold, but also increased numbers of beneficial lacewings (Micromus tasmaniae (Walker)) and hover flies (Syrphidae) captured on yellow sticky traps compared with the controls. It significantly increased leafroller parasitism by D. tasmanica from 0% to 86% compared with the controls (on one date only), and in the laboratory enhanced D. tasmanica longevity and increased fecundity compared with water-only. Similarly, alyssum significantly increased parasitism rate compared with controls, and two-fold more D. tasmanica were suction sampled in these plots compared with controls. It also enhanced longevity of both sexes of D. tasmanica compared with water, and showed the most favourable characteristics in terms of being of no benefit to leafrollers. This is because it was not preferred over apple by leafroller larvae and when they were forced to feed on it, it caused high mortality (94.3%) and low pupal weight (15 mg). Furthermore, alyssum did not enhance the number of fertile eggs produced by adult leafrollers compared with water only. However, further research is required to address the overall effect of buckwheat and alyssum on crop production and orchard management, including effects on fruit yield and quality, frost risk, disease incidence, soil quality, weeds and other pests. Also, research into the ability of these plants to survive in the orchard with little maintenance, and into the optimal sowing rates, would be useful. Sampling natural populations of leafroller within each treatment showed that damage from leafrollers and the number of leafroller larvae were respectively 20.3% and 29.3% lower in the flowering treatments compared with the controls. Furthermore, field trials showed up to a six-fold increase in leafroller pupae in controls compared with buckwheat and alyssum. This suggests that increasing leafroller parasitism rate from understorey management in orchards will translate into lower pest populations, although neither larval numbers/damage nor pupal numbers differed significantly between treatments. Trapping D. tasmanica at a gradient of distances showed that this parasitoid travels into rows adjacent to buckwheat plots, indicating that growers may be able to sow flowering plants in every second or third row of the orchard, and still enhance leafroller biocontrol while minimising the adverse effects of a cover crop. Sowing buckwheat and alyssum in orchard understoreys may enhance biological control of apple pests in organic apple production and reduce the number of insect growth regulators applied in IFP programmes. However, the challenge still remains to investigate whether conservation biological control can reduce leafroller populations below economic thresholds.

Abstract:
In memory of cats: The camera and the ordinary moment looks at the way in which families use photographs to remember the past. Photography’s offer of memory is limited to a visual trace, so strategies of oral telling are examined to interrogate the way in which memories can be recovered from photographs. Martha Langford’s study of the similarities between structures in oral culture and the photograph album and Annette Kuhn’s strategies for reading family photographs in a broader historical context, are used to examine and recover memories from my own photographic archive. Using moving image to record those memories and then tell how that photographic evidence has shaped my present, is a process suggested by Linda Williams in her writing about how postmodern documentary can use the past to intervene in the present. Other documentary styles, performative documentary and the essay film, offer a structure for personal memories to be revisited and re-presented to public viewers. Offering a space for personal or specific memories to be understood or related to by a viewer is discussed by Lisa Saltzman, who looks at indexical forms other than the photograph, like casting and tracing. These ideas culminated in my video work, A Clowder of Cats, which explores the losses that have been a part of my history, through photographs of the cats my family has owned. The camera gives us a strategy to remember moments that may otherwise have been forgotten, and moving image provides a space for those ordinary moments to be bought back to the present.

For the facility that plays key roles of rescuing or refuge centers (such as hospitals, power facilities etc.) or high-value facilities (such as high-tech factories, financial centers, etc.), immediate operation again right after disrupt due to an earthquake for these structure is critical. Although many approaches have been proposed, they usually require additional measurement sensors and systems. However, since many buildings are already equipped with surveillance monitoring systems with sufficient luminance, using these existing equipments to extract story drift ratio from recorded images to evaluate building damage during an earthquake should be well-accepted by building owners. This proposed new approach is verified using shaking table experiments of a twin tower buiding. Commercial surveillance cameras are installed in the buildings and story drift ratios during earthquakes are used to evaluate damage level. The results are compared to the one measured by LVDT and accelerometers and feasibility of the proposed approach is verified.

Abstract:
碩士<br>國立臺灣科技大學<br>機械工程系<br>97<br>In this thesis, background subtraction technique and motion detection technique in the embedded system of digital toy camera have been used. Background subtraction technique was used to complete static object separation and motion object separation in the embedded system. In reality, a background picture was taken, followed by a picture of a body which was imposed into the background. With the use of background subtraction method, such as flood fill method, shadow detection method, dilation method, and erosion method, this can efficiently separate the body from the pure background of the picture. Besides, motion detection technique was used to quickly determine the orientation of the camera. In reality, the camera was moved by the operator so that the images taken vary. The orientation of the camera and move distance can be quickly and accurately determined by the use of fast research motion estimation algorithm in comparison to the continuous images. As a result, theses methods can be put into practice in the buddyland game of digital toy camera.

Abstract:
碩士<br>中央警察大學<br>警察政策研究所<br>106<br>Abstract According to the analysis of historical trajectories, the police used to collect evidence only on specific occasions and circumstances, and the evidence was obtained by a legally authorized person, who used a hand-held camera or recording device to collect evidence at a certain point or at a specific location. Under the circumstances, it is common for relatives or other people to see at a glance that police officers are conducting full-range recordings of video recordings. However, with the rise of the people’s self-awareness, police officers often face public suspicions about law enforcement and police personnel. In order to reduce public suspicions and increase the credibility of law enforcement, police officers currently prefer to use Body Worn Cameras(BWC) to collect evidence. To analyze and discuss the role of portable audio-visual equipment that exerts great influence on law enforcement. When the police officers assume administrative functions, they actively take the initiative for the benefit of the people. As long as they do not violate the law, they can do so. But when assisting in the execution of judicial duties, It must also meet the requirements of mandatory statutory and writs principles. The use of BWC by the police is a disguised form of data collection. With data collection, as long as the personal video recording device is accessed through the M-Police(police mobile computer), further personal data can be obtained. The people’s rights and interests are seriously affected. Therefore, we must clarify the use of the device. What is the legal nature of the BWC?In addition, in view of the close relationship between police duty behavior and public interest, the police officers are currently on duty to wear BWC. The content of the video footage collected by the police officers has at least the following three functions:1. Due process2. Police Security3. Improve the effectiveness of police officers on duty and public satisfactionHowever, there are many advantages to using BWC, it is undeniable that police officers use BWC to record what they have seen and heard at any time while on duty, and may also infringe on human rights, especially the right to privacy. How to protect the rights of the people while use BWC is worthy .The content of this article is divided into six chapters.Chapter 1: IntroductionThis chapter explains the research background and motivation of this article, the research purpose and scope, and explains the research methods that may be used and the restrictions that may be encountered.Chapter 2: Discussion on the Basic Rights involved in the Use of BWCThis chapter discusses the background of the use of BWC, explains the relevant issues that may be involved in using BWC, and discusses the legal nature and basic principles of using BWC, and finally explains the use of BWC and basics Relationship of powerChapter 3: Practical analysis of the use of BWCs and judicial practiceThis chapter focuses on the analysis of the current state of the practice of using BWCs by police officers. It also discusses the evidentiary power and evidentiary power of the police in using evidence from BWC in the judicial practice.Chapter 4: Comparison of Other Law Enforcement Officers and Foreign Legal SystemsThe purpose of this chapter is to understand whether the other types of law enforcement officers who executive duties use or not in BWC. In addition, it compares the current problems encountered by foreign police using BWC to assist law enforcement, thereby providing an analysis of current or future problems that may be encountered in our country.Chapter 5: Review and Discussion of BWCMainly for the current domestic use of BWC, the possible problems found, such as the acquisition of the device, the timing of the use, the relevant procedures, etc., are reviewed, and the possible future improvement direction was proposed.Chapter 6: Findings and SuggestionsThrough the above-mentioned studies, it is hoped that the advantages and disadvantages of using BWC by police officers can be analyzed and proposed. Abstract:
碩士<br>大同大學<br>工業設計學系(所)<br>100<br>At the present time, the mobile phone has already become an indispensable product. Touch panel also has become the mainstream of the smart-phone control interface. In this study, the purpose is to propose a better configuration of camera smart-phone for physically-touching control to take picture. In accordance with the reason to use, operation mode, and the key function of the camera smart-phone, there are 70 survey subjects designed in a questionnaire. The reasons for using the camera smart-phone are recording life anywhere, sharing photos quickly via the internet environment, and carry camera and mobile phone at the same time. The ideal overall size is approximately 115x59x8.5 mm with a 4.3-inch screen. The repeated measure of ANOVA is used to analyze whether the satisfaction of phone and camera function operation, and the extent necessity of phone and camera function keys are meet. According to the ANOVA analysis with regard to the questionnaire, it is shown that the touch operation is preferred. Within the functions of the smart-phone, physical control to adjust the volume and take a picture is preferred. The important keys are power, switching camera or video recording mode, flash mode, shutter, and macro mode. Chi-square analysis is used to analyze the tendency of phone and camera function keys, it is demonstrated that touch buttons for camera function is preferable. In research of the operation and button configuration, firstly the button configuration recommendations are suggested from 6 professional photographers. Expertise configuration recommendations are then verified by 36 normal users. The verification method used entity models and operating concept videos. At last, the best model is chosen to modify and design the configuration. Finally, this study’s design interface is compared with the “S” brand’s by objective tasks and subjective satisfaction questionnaire. The objective tasks contained “unlocking the phone to taking picture”, “adjusting some camera functions before taking picture”, and “having a phone call at taking picture”. The pan/tilt camera instead of a number of cameras is used to capture multi-directional images for coastal observation, data collection, real-time monitoring and observation mode alteration. In this study, the field site includes the artificial headland and artificial beach nourishment of Shi-Hzuwan Bay. First, the coastal images obtained by pan/tilt camera are mosaicked into a coastal panorama by commercial software. Then the coastal characteristics of Shi-Hzuwan Bay (e.g., sand siltation, drift, and wave shoaling) are obtained by image processing (e.g., coordinate transformation and edge detection).. In this thesis, the coastal images of Shi-Hzuwan Bay are analyzed based on this low-cost coastal image observation system in which the behavior of the beach line can be traced in a long time.

Digital cameras have also been affected this tendency which size was done by smaller and thinner than before ones. But these compact designs have also compressed the internal space of products. This thesis studies how lithium battery spring do optimization design and find relative parameters that affect design and improve it while digital camera is constrained from its internal space. Experiments use CAE software Pro/E to create different 3D spring models, then use ANSYS finite element analysis method to simulate the stress and strain of these models. To tabulate these stress and make optimal stress analysis by Matlab program. From the experimental results that we find the length of the spring had much influenced on the stress of the one. The thesis results can be used as design reference while designer do similar mechanical design.

In order to achieve the wisdom of the device, this paper integrates a six-axis robot arm and a smart camera to complete a set of items classification system. The proposed system can provide production lines for intelligent classification of goods. In this system, we can use the camera to identify the location of items, access the angle of the placement, and get the types of items. The robotic arm classifies the items through the information identified by the intelligent camera. Items for good will be placed in the specified position and placed in front. If the item is defective, it will be placed in the area of bad product. In this system, we also joined the message notification function. When items are gripped or filled, and the connection of the robot arm and the camera is abnormal, the proposed system will notify the operator by lights. In this paper, we succeeded in integrating smart cameras and six-axis robots. This system can be used in the factory's intelligent production line. And the manpower for product testing and classification work can be replaced.

Abstract:
碩士<br>國立臺灣大學<br>資訊網路與多媒體研究所<br>106<br>Simultaneous Localization and Mapping(SLAM)is a generic method used to solve robot ego-positioning problems. At present, popular SLAM methods are mainly divided into direct methods and feature-based methods. The direct method is more sensitive to brightness information, and the feature-based method has been demonstrated more tolerance toward changes in brightness. In nighttime environment, information from normal camera become difficult to identify. Therefore, we propose to use near-infrared (NIR) cameras for ego-positioning of night robots. Images obtained by NIR light have different light intensities due to their distance from the infrared light sources, so SLAM is not suitable for direct methods. We used a feature-based method which is tolerant to light intensities to ego-positioning. This method combines ego-positioning and NIR with multi-wide-angle NIR cameras to not only solve the problem of capturing the feature points under low-light conditions, but also obtain more accurate ego-positioning results. This allows the robot to do SLAM even at night in low illumination indoor scenario. Therefore, this system has more robust results in different challenging situations.

In general, when the function of the digital camera and the camera embedded on mobile phone are not satisfied, the characteristics of the monocular camera are used to improve the quality of the photo. When user has more experience on the monocular camera, they found the lenses are various types. The photo quality depends on the characteristics of lens and the type of lens. It will affect the subsequent image editing margin. The lens can be classified into fixed focal length and variable focal length. The aperture of variable focal length can be divided into constant and non-constant. It also classified to wide lens, standard lens and telescope lens and special lenses such as fisheye lens, shifting mirror, etc. Due to the variety of lenses, it causes user confusion when buying a lens. In this study, the Delphi method expert questionnaire is used to survey photographers to establish an expert questionnaire basis and a consensus. The survey respondents are professional photographers and senior amateur. After collecting statistics data, refer to subjective and objective factors, the Analytic Hierarchical Process (AHP) was adopted to find the relationship between consistency and weight. To decompose them at different levels, and compare the importance and value between each other through quantitative judgments to guide the lens purchasing key factor. The results of this study, there are three major criteria; the most significant issue is “Topic”, followed by "category and aperture" and the last is "price and additional functions". "Portrait photography", "landscape photography", "dynamic photography", "fixed focal length" and "OEM lens" are the most significant factors of twelve secondary criteria. The value of this study is providing a reference for the purchase a lens for advanced monocular camera users

Abstract:
碩士<br>國立交通大學<br>資訊管理研究所<br>93<br>In this digital era, all kinds of media data are recorded and presented digitally. The popularity of digital devices also brings up the needs for new digital data applications, and digital forensics is one of them. This research is to analyze the relationship between digital cameras and images produced by them. First, digital image processing technology is applied with data mining method to get images’ features. Later, these features were trained and classified to identify the images’ original camera sources. Second, the identification features were further analyzed and improvements, based on the analyses, were proposed to enhance the identification precision rate. In addition, camera manufacturers have various designs of image formation process for digital camera. By analyzing the distinctive feature of the process, the original camera source of digital image will be identified. This research focused on comparing and contrasting not only cameras of different manufacturers, but also those of the same manufacturer and similar models. By doing so, the potential limits of this identification method will be defined by the research results. Finally, a conclusion based on the research findings is presented, and suggestions for future and further research are provided as well.

Abstract:
Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI)<br>A massive amount of videos are uploaded on video websites, smooth video browsing, editing, retrieval, and summarization are demanded. Most of the videos employ several types of camera operations for expanding field of view, emphasizing events, and expressing cinematic effect. To digest heterogeneous videos in video websites and databases, video clips are profiled to 2D image scroll containing both spatial and temporal information for video preview. The video profile is visually continuous, compact, scalable, and indexing to each frame. This work analyzes the camera kinematics including zoom, translation, and rotation, and categorize camera actions as their combinations. An automatic video summarization framework is proposed and developed. After conventional video clip segmentation and video segmentation for smooth camera operations, the global flow field under all camera actions has been investigated for profiling various types of video. A new algorithm has been designed to extract the major flow direction and convergence factor using condensed images. Then this work proposes a uniform scheme to segment video clips and sections, sample video volume across the major flow, compute flow convergence factor, in order to obtain an intrinsic scene space less influenced by the camera ego-motion. The motion blur technique has also been used to render dynamic targets in the profile. The resulting profile of video can be displayed in a video track to guide the access to video frames, help video editing, and facilitate the applications such as surveillance, visual archiving of environment, video retrieval, and online video preview.

"An efficient algorithm for total variation regularization with applications to the single pixel camera and compressive sensing." Thesis, 2010. http://hdl.handle.net/1911/62229.

Full text
Abstract:
In this thesis, I propose and study an efficient algorithm for solving a class of compressive sensing problems with total variation regularization. This research is motivated by the need for efficient solvers capable of restoring images to a high quality captured by the single pixel camera developed in the ECE department of Rice University. Based on the ideas of the augmented Lagrangian method and alternating minimization to solve subproblems, I develop an efficient and robust algorithm called TVAL3. TVAL3 is compared favorably with other widely used algorithms in terms of reconstruction speed and quality. Convincing numerical results are presented to show that TVAL3 is suitable for the single pixel camera as well as many other applications.
