Full textMajor visions of future communication scenarios presume the emergence of new communication models based on the collective, group and concentration dependent mobility behaviors. Users will form moving networks called Mobile Networks (MONET). In this thesis, we were interested in the mobility support for MONET networks. In the first part of the study dedicated to the study of MONET networks IP mobility, We proposed two solutions that address this routing problem. The second part of the thesis was devoted to study the wireless mobility. We focused on QoS-aware services that Mobile Network nodes are supposed to handle. Thus, we propose a solution we called TBR for Time-based Bandwidth Reservation. Our scheme is based on the users mobility prediction using real-time measures. In the last part of this thesis, we aimed to study the feasibility and the interaction of the TBR mechanism with a MAC layer of an existing radio interface. We chose to study the application of TBR in a mobile WiMAX network (IEEE 802. 16e)

Full textThe IEEE 802. 11 technology has had a major success in the market place under the name WiFi. Recently, the new IEEE 802. 16 standards have been released promising a wireless technology called WiMAX that is even more efficient in terms of coverage and capacity than WiFi. To introduce this new broadband wireless technology into the market, hybrid wireless networks seem to be a good solution which is receiving a lot of attention in the academic field as well as in industrial domain. As a matter of fact, this solution allows combining all advantages of the two technologies, such as high speed network, multi-services support, high range of coverage, rapidity of deployment, flexibility of system lower infrastructure costs. In this thesis, we have introduced an architecture for hybrid wireless networks in which the network is organized in three hierarchical levels. The users are present in level one, which connects to WiFi access points in level two ; the latter in turn connects to the WiMAX base stations in level three. The WiMAX base stations are supposed to be deployed in regular pattern and the WiFi access points are supposed to be randomly placed. We focus on the dimensioning and parameter optimization problems. We introduce a framework consisting of several economic functions which takes into account all basic trade-offs ; optimizing the network then becomes equivalent to finding the optimum of these economic functions. Our simulation and numerical results assessed the behavior of these economic functions. Based on our analysis and simulation, the optimum of the economic function can be derived to obtain an optimum configuration of the hybrid network

Full textThe current tendency is to use the multi-antennas systems in emission and/or reception in order to optimize the radioelectric spectrum as well as possible and to improve the radio connexion for the wireless communication systems. It is in this context that this thesis is related to the study and optimization of a demonstrator of smart antennas. After having carried out a thorough study of the detection methods of directions of arrival of the RF signals and having developed a beamforming technique, two prototypes of adaptive antenna system were developed in the WiMax band (3. 4 - 3. 5 GHz) and experimentally validated. The first system functioning in reception is based on the Uplink. It uses the five-port demodulators and the numerical beamforming system where the weights are calculated by the SQP algorithm (technique of pattern synthesis developed) and directly applied to the signals in baseband in order to improve quality of the received signals i. E. To improve the signal to interference plus noice ratio. The second system functioning in emission is based on the Downlink ; it is an analogical beamforming system using the vectors modulators controlled numerically, starting form the weight given by the array pattern synthesis (SQP algorithm) in order to concentrate the radiation emitted in the desired direction of the useful receiver. These two systems are complementary insofar as the last one uses the results of measurement of DoA of the first one to adapt its radiation pattern according to the position angular of the sources

Full textThis works deals with a wireless link between a bus and a control centre for embedded audio and video monitoring. Our work is split in three part: the MIMO channels and its modelling, the development of the transmission chain in simulation and its evaluation, the development of a real transmission chain. First, a state of the art of the modelling of the MIMO channel is presented. Real channels are measured and its modelling by the Kronecker and Weichselberger models are studied. The transmitter of the considered chained is based on the WiMAX standard. Two receivers are presented and evaluated: a simple receiver and a turbo receiver. Several channel models are used for the evaluation of the performance. The Turbo receiver proved more effective in terms of bits errors rate. It is more resistant to the spatial correlation and to the errors on the channel estimation. The correlation shows more prejudicial than line of sight for the system. Last, a real transmission module has been developed. The real chain corresponds to the RF part. The generation and the treatments of the signals are realized with developed software. First real transmissions show us a degradation of the performance in comparison with simulations. Alternatives solutions are proposed

Full textDriven by the increasing demand for multimedia services in broadband Internet networks, WIMAX technology has emerged as a competitive alternative to the wired broadband access solutions. The IEEE 802.16 is a solution that provides high throughput by ensuring a satisfactory QoS. In particular, it is suitable for multimedia applications that have strict QoS constraints. However, the users’ heterogeneity and diversity in terms of bandwidth, radio conditions and available resources, pose new deployment challenges. Indeed, multimedia applications need to interact with their environment to inform the access network about their QoS requirements and dynamically adapt to changing network conditions.In this context, we propose two solutions for video streaming over 802.16 networks based on Cross-Layer approach. We are interested in both unicast and multicast transmissions in uplink and downlink of one or more WIMAX cells.First, we proposed an architecture that enables Cross-Layer adaptation and optimization of video streaming based on available resources. We defined the entity CLO (Cross-Layer Optimizer) that takes benefits from service flow management messages, exchanged between BS and SS, at the MAC level, to determine the necessary adaptations / adjustment to ensure optimal delivery of the application. Adaptations occur at two epochs, during the admission of the video stream and during the streaming phase. The performance analysis, performed through simulations, shows the effectiveness of the CLO to adapt in a dynamic way, the video data rate depending on network conditions, and thus guarantee an optimal QoS.Second, we proposed a solution that enables IP multicast video delivery in WIMAX network. This solution allows finding the compromise between the diversity of end-user requirements, in terms of radio conditions, modulation schemes and available resources, along with the SVC hierarchy video format, to offer the best video quality even for users with low radio conditions. Indeed, we define a multicast architecture that allows each user to get a video quality proportionally to its radio conditions and its available bandwidth. Towards this end, several IP multicast groups are created depending on the SVC video layers. Subsequently, our solution allows optimizing the use of radio resources by exploiting the different modulations that can be selected by the end-users

Full textWith the rapid evolution of mobile radio telecommunications and networks technologies, researchers are currently preparing the arrival of a new generation called 4G. The 4th generation network aims to improve spectral efficiency and increase capacity to manage a large number of mobiles in a cell. It tries to provide high flow rates under high or low mobility. It also aims to enable and facilitate the interconnection and the interoperability between different technologies allowing transparent transition between networks. Finally, it aims to avoid interruption of services during the handover, and to switch an all-IP system. In this context, we are concerned first with QoS and mobility issues in Mobile WiMAX for the real-time traffic. We compared the performance of several mobility protocols in the context of the level 2 and level 3+ handovers. Several mobility models, configurations and scenarios were considered. Finally, we modeled a decision algorithm that manages the handover in mobile WiMAX based on several input parameters.Through these studies, we have identified mobility protocols that provide an acceptable QoS level for real-time traffic under the proposed scenarios. Secondly, we focused on the problems of interconnection and interoperability between networks, taking into account the mobility and vertical handovers between two technologies. For this, we proposed to compare mobility protocols or combine them to reduce delays for real-time traffic during the handover. We also proposed interconnection models between mobile WiMAX and many other standards (802.11e, UMTS, DVB-S/RCS, LTE). Besides interconnection solutions, we also highlighted the combination or combinations of management mobility protocols that can guarantee QoS

Full textOver recent years, new applications steadily developed in a tremendous space, especially in audiovisual services area. The present applications have some of constraints to work properly. The developments of mechanism which enable to overcome these constraints become a critical issue in this area. The IEEE 802.16j standard is one of wireless communication technology which offering more resources to support new telecommunication services. In this thesis, we focus our research on the problem of quality of service (QoS) inWiMAX relay networks. Our contributions are classified as follows : we proposed a multicast routing protocol for IPTV services (such as HD-TV, SD-TV, Web-TV and Mobile-TV). This proposed protocol used a new multicast tree construction mechanism based-on prime numbers. We also developed a new aggregation method based on standard video compression called Scalable Video Coding (SVC). Our goal is to support user’s heterogeneity while optimizing resources consumption. In addition, we studied the problem of scheduling inWiMAX networks.We proposed an adaptive scheduling algorithm AWRR for IPTV services. The aim of this method is to support QoS constraints by using two schedulers, and assigning a dynamic value to each service queue. Finally, we interested to study about the problem of path selection. We proposed a solution based on a deterministic cost function. This function also ensures admission control based on two basic cost functions which include four QoS criteria. This thesis has been prepared in the MIPS/GRTC laboratory, University of Haute Alsace, under a research contract external (CRE) framework with France Telecom R&D. All proposed mechanisms were evaluated by the simulator QualNet, Matlab and mathematical analysis
