Full textThis thesis deals with problems related to interconnection networks, which can be multiprocessor or telecommunication networks. These networks are modeled by graphs in case of node-to-node connections and by hypergraphs in case of connection by buses. An important problem is the construction of large networks having a limited number of links per processor and a short message transmission rime. This corresponds in the associated graph to bound the maximum degree and diameter. In part one the case of networks modeled by graphs is discussed. We construct some new large families of networks with given maximum degree and diameter. The radius and related properties of these networks are given. We also study how one can add vertices to existing networks without changing their properties. Final/y we construct large fault tolerant networks (not vulnerable), in the sense that the diameter does not increase too much in case of node or link failures. Part two deals with bus interconnection networks. As result of the limited capacity of the buses, the number of processors per bus is bounded. We give constructions of such networks, especially in the case where any two nodes belong to a common bus, and the case where a node belongs to only two buses. This study gives rise to some interesting problems in combinatorial design theory. We give new results on decompositions, and on packings and coverings of complete graphs

Full textThe thesis work involves the study of Indium-free Transparent Conductive Materials (TCMs), key components of many optoelectronic devices, using Atmospheric Pressure Spatial Atomic Layer Deposition (AP-SALD). This new approach shares the main advantages of conventional ALD but allows open-air, very fast deposition of high-quality nanometer-thick materials over large surfaces. We focused on the optimization of the electrical properties of Aluminum doped Zinc Oxide (ZnO:Al) films, one of the most studied Transparent Conductive Oxides (TCOs). The effect of several experimental parameters on the physical properties of the deposited films has been evaluated. The carrier transport mechanism at grain boundaries was identified to be tunneling rather than thermionic emission in highly doped ZnO, thanks to a new model we have developed using the Airy Function Transfer Matrix Method. Accordingly, the electron trap density at grain boundaries for ZnO:Al samples (2.2×1020 cm-3) prepared by AP-SALD was estimated to be about 7.6×1013 cm-2. Our model shows that grain boundary scattering is the dominant scattering mechanism in our films. We found that UV assisted annealing (~ 200 °C) under vacuum was an efficient method to reduce grain boundary traps, resulting in an improvement of mobility from 1 cm2V-1s-1 to 24 cm2V-1s-1 for ZnO and to 6 cm2V-1s-1 for ZnO:Al. We have also used AP-SALD to fabricate high-performance, stable and flexible TCMs based on metallic nanowire network. For that, we developed composite electrodes by coating silver/copper nanowires (AgNWs/CuNWs) with ZnO, Al2O3, or ZnO:Al. A thin conformal coating deposited by AP-SALD technique enhanced drastically the thermal/electrical stability of the AgNWs/CuNWs network. High optoelectronic properties (resistivity ~ 10-4 Ωcm, transmittance ~ 90 %) of the AgNW/ZnO:Al composite make them very appropriate for application as TCM, especially for flexible devices. Finally, as a soft deposition technique, AP-SALD is completely compatible to the Silicon heterojunction (Si-HET) solar cell technology in terms of interface passivation. The integration of ZnO:Al and AgNWs based TCMs to Si-HET cell has also been explored

Full textHeating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) equipment faults and operational errors result in comfort issues and waste of energy in buildings. In order to help the facility managers to identify and fix faults more efficiently, it is essential to have an Automatic Fault Detection and Diagnosis (AFDD) tool, able to automatically detect comfort and energy issues and identify the root faults.Existing AFDD methods mostly focus on equipment-level fault detection and diagnostics. Almost no attention is given to building level fault diagnosis, considering inter-dependency between equipment through the energy distribution chain. This thesis proposes a new building AFDD method based on operation data collected by Building Management Systems (BMS). The method uses Bayesian Network to achieve building-level integrated fault diagnosis and equipment-level data-driven fault detection by information fusion of data collected from different equipment of HVAC systems. An important contribution relates to the use of operating data and learning techniques to automatically tune some parameters of the detection tool. Our methodology is composed of the following two parts:1. A new systematic way of transferring building system topology information and expert knowledge to a Bayesian Network.2. A novel approach for integrating equipment-level fault detection results into a building-level fault diagnosis Bayesian network. We use regression methods for central equipment (e.g. chiller, boiler, and Air Handling Unit), learned from normal operation data collected during a commissioning test. For room equipment, we use probabilistic models of correlations between control and measurement data.Once the fault diagnosis network is set up and all of the evidence is collected, the network is able to calculate the probability of different faults and identify the most probable root faults. We implemented the fault diagnostics Bayesian network on one simulation data set and two real building operation data sets to test the performance of the AFDD method. The results show that the method is able to easily handle large numbers of equipment, and correctly identify root causes with given evidences.Compared to existing AFDD methods, the new method provides the following benefits:1) The modular structure and generalized methodology allow the method to be applied to wide variety of HVAC systems.2) The method connects equipment faults to building comfort symptoms perceivable by occupants.3) The HVAC system is diagnosed as a whole instead of equipment by equipment.4) By connecting comfort set point violation with equipment fault, and tracing root fault of room equipment failure, the total number of alarms is reduced.5) Facility managers can use the tool in an interactive way, thanks to the capability to post evidence in the Bayesian network based on field investigation findings

Full textHabitats and landscape fragmentation, caused by linear land transports infrastructures, is one of the major cause for the current loss of biodiversity. Among those infrastructures, road is a major cause of fragmentation, especially as it possess specific traffic-linked effects, which induces wildlife-vehicles collisions and landscape pollution. In order to decrease those negative effects, mitigation measures are taken, among which wildlife crossings, enabling wildlife to cross the road. Road also creates new potential habitats for small wildlife species in anthropogenic and fragmented landscapes. In this essay are shown (1) the potential as habitat of different road-linked elements; (2) the possibility to anticipate wildlife-vehicles collisions in order to improve the position of mitigation measures; (3) the importance of methodology in the evaluation of wildlife crossings effectiveness; and (4) the possibility to improve existing wildlife crossings. Those results will allow improving landscape defragmentation strategies

Full textAutonomous systems embed different types of sensors, applications and powerful calculators. Thus, they are used in different fields of application and perform various simple or complex tasks. Generally, these missions are executed in nondeterministic environments with the presence of random events that can affect the mission's progress. Therefore, it is necessary to regularly assess the health of the system and its hardware and software components in order to detect failures using Bayesian Networks.Subsequently, a decision is made by the mission planner by generating a new mission plan that ensures the mission in response to the detected event. This decision is made using the Markov Decision Process model based on constraints such as the mission objective, the health status of sensors and embedded applications, the mission policy "safety policy" or "mission first policy", etc. As autonomous systems perform different tasks that require different performance, it is necessary to consider the use of hardware accelerators on SoC-FPGA in order to meet high-performance computing constraints and unload the CPU if needed

Full textThe harmful effects of air pollution need a high-resolution concentration estimate. Ambient pollutant concentrations are routinely measured by surface monitoring sites of local agencies (AIRPARIF in Paris area, France). Such networks are not dense enough to represent the strong horizontal gradients of pollutant concentrations over urban areas. And, high-resolution models that simulate 3D pollutant concentration fields have a large spatial coverage but suffer from uncertainties. Those both information sources exploited independently are not able to accurately assess an individual’s exposure. We suggest two approaches to solve this problem : (1) direct pollution measurement by using low cost mobile sensors and reference instruments. A high variability across pollution levels is shown between microenvironments and also in the same room. Mobile sensors should be deployed on a large scale due to their technical constraints. Reference instruments are very expensive, cumbersome, and can only be used occasionally. (2) by combining concentration fields of the Parallel Micro-SWIFT-SPRAY (PMSS) model over Paris at a horizontal resolution of 3 meters with AIRPARIF local ground stations measurements. We determined “representativeness areas” - perimeter where concentrations are very close to the one of the station location – only from PMSS simulations. Next, we developed a Bayesian model to extend the stations measurements within these areas

Full textThe central problematic treated in this thesis is interested in the phenomenon of mobility of the populations of Southeastern Tunisia, through history, of which the most recent one was caused by the trans-border dynamic of the informai trade following the opening of the Tuniso-Libyan borders on February 15th, 1988 and the agreements of the Union of the Maghreb Arab (February 17th, 1989). The typology that has been developed between the System of nomadic socioeconomic production and that of the informai trade, was based on a historie retrospective (first part of the thesis) and monitoring of this new phenomenon since its appearance in 1988 (the third part of the thesis). Between 1992 and 2006, several investigations by questionnaires have been carried out (1992, March 2006, July 2006). Data provided by these investigations and field researches by the différent involved partners and social actors allowed us to settle the dynamics of the informai trade under its two dimension: the first one is relative to the historie base of the former tribal structure of the society in the Southern Tunisia, the second is relative to the context of globalization (the « new nomadism ») : real incubator of the informai trade or « globalization at the bottom »
