In this paper we propose a household sorting model for the 50 largest US metropolitan regions and evaluate the model using 2010 Census data. To approximate residential locations for household cohorts, we specify a Cohort Location Model (CLM) built upon two principle assumptions about housing consumption and metropolitan development/land use patterns. According to our model, the expected distance from the household’s residential location to the city centre(s) increases with the age of the householder (as a proxy for changes in housing career over life span). Residential energy consumption constitutes a significant portion of the overall energy consumption. There are significant amount of studies that target to reduce this consumption, and these studies mainly create mathematical models to represent and regenerate the energy consumption of individual houses. Most of these models assume that the residential energy consumption can be classified and then predicted based on the household size. As a result, most of the previous studies suggest that household size can be treated as an independent variable which can be used to predict energy consumption.

Abstract:
Using a hedonic residential rent model for Brazil's metropolitan areas calibrated with microdata from Brazil's annual household survey, this study estimates that increasing the sense of security in the home by one standard deviation would increase average home values by R$1,513 (US$757), or about US$13. 6 billion if applied to all 18.0 million households in the study area. The principal components analysis of sense of security and crime victimization variables indicates that higher-income households feel more secure from crime in the home, even though theft and robbery victimization rise with

Nguyen, Kim. Do Australian Households Borrow to Keep up with the Joneses? Reserve Bank of Australia, 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.47688/rdp2022-06.

Abstract:
I examine whether and how local income inequality affects household debt and its composition using household panel data for Australia from the Household, Income and Labour Dynamics in Australia Survey. I find that middle-income households without liquidity and credit constraints tend to borrow more for non-residential investment purposes as local income inequality rises, suggesting that they are trying to close the income gap. They also appear to try to close the consumption gap by accumulating more car debt with a rise in local income inequality. Both findings are consistent with households '

Abstract:
This guidebook provides essential guidance to policymakers and energy suppliers interested in applying behavioural insights to improve residential demand response. This involves changing household energy consumption habits, promoting the uptake of demand-response technologies, and improving household participation in demand-response programmes.

McRae, Shaun D. Residential Electricity Consumption and Adaptation to Climate Change by Colombian Households. Inter-American Development Bank, 2023. http://dx.doi.org/10.18235/0005017.

Abstract:
This paper provides the first empirical estimates of the relationship between temperatures and household electricity consumption in Colombia, using electricity billing and weather data from 2010 to 2019. I find that higher temperatures (or higher values of the heat index) increase electricity consumption, with the largest effects observed for high-income households in regions with hot climates. However, I show that there has been partial convergence between low- and high-income households, with the effect of temperature on electricity consumption in lower-income neighborhoods more than doublin

Abstract:
June 26, 2025 marks the tenth anniversary of the landmark Obergefell v. Hodges decision, which legalized same-sex marriage nationwide in the United States. This Family Profile examines newlywed same-sex and different-sex couples, focusing on geographic and economic indicators: residential mobility, census region, homeownership, and household income. This analysis updates a prior profile (FP-23-28; Westrick-Payne & Manning, 2023) using the American Community Survey, 1-year estimates 2023 from IPUMS USA (Ruggles et al., 2024). Abstract:
The paper investigates the determinants of household energy spending and energy budget shares, with a focus on understanding their non-linear relationship with income, and the presence of economies of scale. The analysis is based on a unique, harmonized collection of official household surveys from 13 Latin American countries. This dataset allows distinguishing between expenditures on electricity, domestic gas, and fuel for private transportation, providing a comprehensive distributional view of the energy spending profile of the residential sector. Abstract:
This directory of surveys contains data on families and households in developing countries. The emphasis is on intergenerational linkages as well as conjugal ties and co-residential arrangements. Surveys that do not situate individuals within a family or household context are excluded. Thus, many labor force surveys with data on the employment status and earnings of men and women are not included unless they also collected data on respondents’ children and/or households. The same is true of contraceptive prevalence surveys that limit their attention to women’s reproductive behavior. The majori

Abstract:
Understanding how energy use evolves at different stages of development is essential for reliable prospective analysis and planning. With that aim in mind, this paper examines the composition of residential energy consumption and its sensitivity to income changes, distinguishing fuel types and accounting for complete heterogeneity of the income coefficient. The focus on domestic energy use allows for the examination of fuel transition under the conceptual framework of the energy ladder and energy portfolio hypotheses, showing the increasing need for modern fuels in the household sector.
