Abstract:
Resilience characteristics typically have been studied among children and adolescents. A new line of research on resilience is focused on exploring the resilience characteristics of adults exposed to short and long-term adversity. In the present study, 585 master's-level counseling students responded to the Resilience Scale (Wagnild & Young, 1993). The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between counseling students' level of resilience and specific background variables (age, gender, marital status, ethnicity, education, income, employment, living situation, sexual orien

The family typically fulfils the role of primary support structure for the diabetic child. Regardless of the physical and psychological challenges that form part of the illness, a large number of families are resilient. Abstract:
This thesis is concerned with the development of a composite resilience index for road transport networks. The index employs three characteristics, namely redundancy, vulnerability and mobility, measuring resilience at network junction, link and origin-destination levels, respectively. Various techniques have been adopted to quantify each characteristic and the composite resilience index as summarised below. The redundancy indicator for road transport network junctions is based on the entropy concept, due to its ability to measure the system configuration in addition to being able to model the

Abstract:
The work presented in this thesis has investigated the feasibility, characteristics and potential applications of low power wireless networking technology, particularly aimed at improving underground mine safety. Following an initial review, wireless technology was identified as having many desirable attributes as a modern underground data transmission medium. Wireless systems are mobile, flexible, and easily scalable. Installation time can be reduced and there is scope for rapid deployment of wireless sensor networks following an emergency incident such as a mine explosion or roof rock fall.
