Abstract. Buildings play a significant role in green development. The FTSP Building at Universitas Trisakti aims to implement Green Buildings. Water efficiency contributes 13% to the green buildings criteria. To determine efficiency and strategies for improving water usage, water balance calculations were performed using the Ministry of PUPR Water Balance Software v2.6. Strategies were tested through 72 simulations, each replacing a component to identify the most impactful factor on the FTSP building's water efficiency. The water efficiency of the FTSP building aims at conserving PDAM water re

Abstract:
Rwanda’s economy is inextricably linked to its water supply, with agriculture employing nearly 70% of its population and making up half of the country’s export revenue. It aspire to become an upper-middle-income country by 2035, and a high-income country by 2050. But rising temperatures and more prolonged dry spells threaten crop production and strain water supply. Rwanda’s Vision 2050 policy details the country’s long-term goals and provides the planning blueprint to guide Rwanda’s development. But such growth, coupled with climate change, will profoundly affect its water supply and demands.

Abstract:
Rising interest rates have prompted concerns about losses on bank assets, especially following the failure of Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) in March 2023. In this working paper, we examine whether US credit unions could be subject to similar losses as banks and analyze how their regulatory capital would be affected. We estimate that after realizing losses from assets that have decreased in value and not yet been sold the overall net worth of the credit union industry would have fallen by 40 percent in 2023:Q1. Unrealized losses were most severe at the largest credit unions. Nonetheless, the bulk o

For most Caribbean countries, the COVID-19 pandemic will translate into the deepest single-year contraction of real GDP on record in 2020. With the exception of Guyana, countries have experienced deep recessions, severe increases in unemployment, and long-lasting damage to many corporate and household balance sheets. The social consequences of the crisis continue to mount, and despite governments best efforts to buffer the shock to families, enterprises, and domestic markets, there remains a dire need for continued and more broad-based stimulus to ensure that economic capital both human and ot

Abstract:
This paper explores the empirical determinants of external crises on a world panel dataset of 62 countries over the fifty-year period 1970-2019 and estimates their risk trade-offs with the aim of informing macrofinancial prudential policies. The determinants include countries external balance sheets, macroeconomic imbalances, and structural and global factors. It finds that information on the composition of gross positions in countries external financial portfolios is required to gauge the risk of external crisis: debt liabilities are the riskiest component, FDI liabilities are half as risky,

The European Climate Change Adaptation (ECCA) Conference, organised bi-annually since 2013, offers a platform to exchange knowledge on climate adaptation strategies and policies between scientists, policy-makers and practitioners. The aim is to drive innovation and come forward with actionable solutions. The theme of the 5th ECCA edition in 2021 was ‘Bringing adaptation solutions to life: inspiring climate adaptation action for a resilient future’. The dual nature of water as a finite resource and as a basic human right creates a tension that presents important implications for water pricing. Water tariffs are a key tool used by policymakers to create incentive structures that promote efficient use; at the same time, they can create barriers to access and ignore waters socio-cultural value if not calibrated properly. This conflict between pricing as to reduce over-consumption and to guarantee accessibility exposes the difficulty of optimizing residential water pricing, and the importance of progressive tariff structures in building more

Our current expectations of the future are deeply problematic. The decisions we make today focus on short-term gains to meet the needs of the present, while long-term interests and well-being of future generations are disregarded. As the current generation, we are responsible for protecting the future from the threats of global challenges, such as climate change or biodiversity loss. This causes us to make choices about our environment, social systems, and infrastructures that are rushed and shortsighted while their long-term impacts persist and accumulate. So, how can we break this cycle? By

Now that the dust has begun to settle on the Covid-19 pandemic, it is time to reflect on and draw lessons from country experiences in pandemic response, in relation to fiscal management and reform. In order to apply these lessons, countries will require increased fiscal space to enable them to implement social safety nets that help balance the trade-off between livelihoods on the one hand, and health and the economy on the other.
