Full textThe use of concrete in the civil engineering and building trade increases. The risk of exposure of concrete to the high temperatures in particular at time of fire increases too. This exposure involves a destructuration of the material which can go until the bursting. During this study, we examined the influence of high temperature on the cementing matrix of various concretes going from ordinary concretes to the concretes with high performances. The experimental results show a strong correlation between the evolution of the loss of mass and the heat gradients in the concrete. They underline in particular the existence of two fields of behavior located before and after 300°C. This study also shows that using a thermo-hydrous model, one can contribute to explain the thermal instability observed on certain specimens

Full textFirst of all, a general review on concretes at high temperatures is presented. The advantage of high performance concretes in nuclear power plants is underlined. The experimental investigation is carried out on two concretes (ordinary and high performance) made on the CIVAUX power plant. Cylindrical and specimens there heated to different temperatures. Measurements of temperature distributions in the concrete during heating showed high temperature differences between the center and the surface of the specimens. Eight measurements during heating up to 600°C were suitable for gathering information on micro structural changes. This permitted quantifying the specimen water loss. After a heating/cooling cycle at each target temperature, decreases were recorded in the residual compressive strength, tensile strength and modulus of elasticity. Three factors that influence concrete spalling at high temperature are investigated : heating rate, specimen dimensions and concrete age. An elastic thermal stresses analysis was conducted both analytically, and numerically by means of finite elements codes. Analysis of pore pressures in the heated concrete specimens necessitate also a numerical approach. Furthermore, the theoretical results and experimental findings showed main parameters for the understanding of the violent explosion which took place in some high performance concrete specimens the thermal gradient, the moisture content and the tensile strength

Full textFibers reinforced concrete is a part of the new concrete technologies which provide ductility. The quality of the crack control depends on the shape of fibers, the amount of them and their distribution in the mauled. In the face of the diversity of fibers available in the market, it is necessary to do further research in a laboratory into the study of the influence of the aforementioned parameters. Firstly, this study allows us to characterize the behavior of three fibers (the total anchorage fiber, the corrugated fiber and the hooked fiber). The study shows the field of efficiency of fiber and their limits with reference to the crack opening. The characterization is carried out at the level of material by the direct tension test on cored and notched samples. Then, at structure scale, it is the bending test carried out on prism which is explained. A statistical parametric study shows the most influential factors on the behavior. An analysis of the anisotropy of distribution and the influence of boundaries are also presented. Secondly, a model allows us to calculate elements in deflection. This model was also extended to allow examining the rigidity of the anchorage system of the fibers with reference to the crack opening

Full textThis thesis contributes to the understanding of the mechanism (friction) governing the behaviour of fabrics (geotextiles) subjected to tensile forces. A review of existing literature on friction mobilisation at soil-geotextile interface as well as test methods (shear and pull out or extraction) with respect to the latter are presented. A theoretical analysis of the behaviour of geotextiles under extraction in non cohesive soils is arso resented. The resulting constitutive relationships provide the basis for the exploitation of the pull out tests carried out to determine the interface law parameters. The experimental study includes pull out tests in a bidimensional analogue model (SCHNEEBELI's cylindrical steel rollers), and friction tests using shear equipement for an eventual comparison with the extraction test results
