Abstract. Conditions for the Landau and cyclotron resonances are tested for 543 waves (identified as local peaks in the energy spectra) in the magnetic field fluctuations of the solar wind measured by the Cluster spacecraft on a tetrahedral scale of 100 km. The resonance parameters are evaluated using the frequencies in the plasma rest frame, the parallel components of the wavevectors, the ion cyclotron frequency, and the ion thermal speed. The observed waves show a character of the sideband waves associated with the ion Bernstein mode, and are in a weak agreement with the fundamental electron

Resonant tunneling is studied theoretically in asymmetrical double-barrier structures with arbitrary potential profile. Analytical expressions of the transmission coefficient and resonance condition are derived by taking into account the mass difference between the well and barrier layers. It is confirmed that resonant tunneling with unity resonant transmission or under-unity resonant transmission may occur in asymmetrical double-barrier structures. Two independent conditions are required for unity resonant transmission: one is the Phase Difference Condition for Resonance (PDCR) and the other

The study of formal stability of equilibrium positions of a multiparametric Hamiltonian system in a generic case is traditionally carried out using its normal form under the condition of the absence of resonances of small orders. In this paper we propose a method of symbolic computation of the condition of existence of a resonance of arbitrary order for a system with three degrees of freedom. It is shown that this condition for each resonant vector can be represented as a rational algebraic curve. AbstractIn this article, a modified Bretherton equation is considered to further check if steady-state multiple resonances exist not only for water waves but also for other dispersive medium. The linear resonance condition analysis shows that different components may interact with each other so multiple resonances may happen. Convergent steady-state solutions are obtained by solution procedure based on the homotopy analysis method (HAM) and the collocation method. Amplitude spectrum analysis confirms that more components indeed join the resonance as the nonlinearity increases. This article sug

A nonlinear analysis is presented for combination resonances in the symmetric responses of a clamped circular plate with the internal resonance, ω3≈ω1+2ω2. The combination resonances occur when the frequency of the excitation are near a combination of the natural frequencies, that is, when Ω≈2ω1+ω2. By means of the internal resonance condition, the frequency of the excitation is also near another combination of the natural frequencies, that is, Ω≈ω1−ω2+ω3. Abstract:
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) national seismic hazard maps have historically been produced for a reference site condition of VS30 = 760 m/sec (where VS30 is time averaged shear wave velocity in the upper 30 m of the site). The resulting ground motions are modified for five site classes (A-E) using site amplification factors for peak acceleration and ranges of short- and long-oscillator periods. As a result of Project 17 recommendations, this practice is being revised: (1) maps will be produced for a range of site conditions (as represented by VS30 ) instead of a single reference condition;

Abstract:
Probes for natural gas sample collection and analysis must extend far enough into the pipeline to avoid contaminants at the pipe wall, but must not be so long that there is a risk of flow-induced resonant vibration and failure. PRCI has sponsored a project to determine the minimum probe depth for obtaining a representative single-phase gas sample in flows with small amounts of contaminants. To this end, Phase 1 of the project involved a review of existing literature and industry standards to identify key probe design parameters. Several current standards for sampling clean, dry natural gas wer

The objectives of this project were to develop nondestructive methods for detection of internal properties and firmness of fruits and vegetables. One method was based on a soft piezoelectric film transducer developed in the Technion, for analysis of fruit response to low-energy excitation. The second method was a dot-matrix piezoelectric transducer of North Carolina State University, developed for contact-pressure analysis of fruit during impact. Two research teams, one in Israel and the other in North Carolina, coordinated their research effort according to the specific objectives of the proj

Abstract:
The article is dedicated to the investigation of time-space measurements of journalistic works of Eugen Sverstiuk, a well-known Ukrainian journalist. In particular, the time-space continuum of his works is being discussed, which is characterized as comprehensive, continuous, filled with archetypical images which metaphorize the text, but at the same time structure it, and are beaded on the axis of time and documentarily located in the space. The logics of images initiated in the text is exaggerated by constant dwelling of the author in the time-space dimensions of the epoque, of which he was a
