Abstract:
As indicated by NMR experimental results, there are two types of electrons in a doped cuprate: the localized Cu3d electrons, which are responsible for magnetism, and the itinerant p-band electrons carrying the charge transports. We show that the uncompensated spins at oxygen sites created by holes can pair into a resonating valence bond (RVB) state via local exchange interactions where the quasi-free local Cu spins play a role of the mediation for spin pairing. The two-component model gives a proper interpretation of the magnetic origin of high Tc superconductivity, especially, in explanation

Abstract:
In this paper, we briefly review the recent efforts to understand the novel resonating valence bond (RVB) state for the S = 1/2 antiferromagnetic (AFM) Heisenberg model. We propose a pair hopping mechanism which generates a new form of AFM superexchange, and argue that the RVB wavefunction is successful because it takes full advantage of this pair hopping. Finally, we will argue that the high T c copper oxides represent a new fixed point of mixed valence systems, in which the low energy charge transfer process is governed by pair hopping between copper and oxygen orbitals.

In this talk the Resonating Valence Bond (RVB) state of the Mott- Hubbard insulator and the high temperature superconductivity resulting from doping are described as the possible mechanisms for the insulating and high temperature superconducting properties of undoped and doped La2CuO4 and other high Tc oxides. We describe in detail two microscopic approaches to the understanding of the RVB superconductivity- one is a simple mean field theory and the other is a gauge theory.

Abstract:
The effect of interactions between holons and spinons in doped resonating valence bond states is investigated. In particular, we focus on those interactions through which a holon emits or absorbs spinons, and we study the influence of these interactions on the effective mass of a holon along the slave boson treatment in the mean field approximation. Our result asserts that the spinon cloud scarcely affects the effective mass of a holon in both s- and d-wave states.

Abstract:
We report on the current status of the Resonating-Valence-Bond theory, reviewing recent progress made by the Princeton group. We outline new developments concerning the topology of spinons, the geometric “meron” description, the SU(2) gauge theory for the insulating state and the possible connection between fractional quantum Hall state and an RVB state on a square lattice. The current understanding of the normal metallic and superconducting states is also summarized.

The exact many-body states of a 10-site square cluster with periodic boundary conditions of a S = 1/2 antiferromagnetic Heisenberg lattice model are investigated. A general form of a Resonating Valence Bond wavefunction (RVB), written in fermion representation is examined. It is shown that the optimum variational wavefunction has complex singlet bond distribution amplitudes of s+id symmetry . It has a very large overlap with the groundstate, belongs to the same space group representation and its energy functional has a minimum very close to the ground-state energy. In this work, we present a detailed graphical solution for the Ising model on the honeycomb lattice. In view of the mapping between the calculation of the partition function for generalizations of the Ising model and the calculus of resonating valence bond (RVB) states at zero temperature, our calculation may be of relevance to the RVB physics on the honeycomb lattice.

In recent years there has been significant work aimed at understanding what effect the variation of electronic doping has on material properties. In the high transition-temperature (high-T$_c$) cuprate superconductors hole doping has an impact on the superconducting transition temperature. In the underdoped regime, the cuprates exhibit anomalous properties due to a pseudogap which forms and is thought to be related to Mott insulating physics. While there is no general consensus as to the mechanism underlying high temperature superconductivity, the resonating valence bond (RVB) theory propos
