Chemical conversion of a dihydrophloroglucinol preparation (a mixture of the tautomers 1,3,5-trihydroxy-1,3-cyclohexadiene, 1,3-dioxo-5-hydroxycyclohexane, and 3,5-dihydroxy-3-cyclohexene-1-one) to resorcinol occurred during a 24-h extraction of an acidic (pH 2.0) aqueous dihydrophloroglucinol preparation into ethyl acetate. This conversion did not occur at neutral pH, nor did phloroglucinol (1,3,5-trihydroxybenzene)-induced or succinate-induced Penicillium simplicissimum enzyme extracts convert the dihydrophloroglucinol preparation to resorcinol at pH values of 5.5–8.0. Abstract:
Abstract Background Lignocellulose is an important raw material for biomass-to-energy conversion, and it exhibits a complex but inefficient degradation mechanism. Microbial degradation is promising due to its environmental adaptability and biochemical versatility, but the pathways used by microbes for lignin degradation have not been fully studied. Degradation intermediates and complex metabolic pathways require more study. Results A novel actinomycete DF3-3, with the potential for lignin degradation, was screened and isolated. After morphological and molecular identification, DF3-3 was determ

Abstract:
AbstractSince 1999, the CORESTA Special Analytes Sub Group (SPA SG) has been working on the development of CORESTA Recommended Methods (CRMs) for the analysis of cigarette smoke components. All CRMs have been posted on the CORESTA website and several associated papers published. In this study, 21 laboratories shared data and in-house methodologies for 28 additional smoke components of regulatory interest to prioritise the development of further CRMs. Laboratories provided data, where available, from CORESTA monitor test pieces (CM6 and CM7) and Kentucky Reference Cigarettes (1R5F / 3R4F) cover
