Abstract:
Purpose/ Research question. A promising way to understand the development of the dynamic capabilities and the knowing process is to build a bridge between the Institutional Theory and the Resource-Based Theory (RBT). Although being needed, this approach is missing in the extant literature. So we have a research question: It possible to construct a bridge between two dimensions basing on two theoretical bodies (Institutional Theory and RBT) using an “inverted binocular” to look at knowing process enacted in a process of organizational learning, for formation of competences and dynamic capabilities? Design/Method/Approach. This paper analyses two different theoretical frameworks in a theoretic way and proposes an interface between those. Findings. The exploration and explication of micro-institutional processes (organizational or individual) can be connected to the macro level (societal or field level) by combining Institutional Theory with Resource Based Theory (RBT) in a multiparadigmatic view between visions and levels (cross-level). Theoretical implications. The bridge between these two theories would enable to strengthen the comprehension of the organizational changes in the various levels of analysis, considering their mutual dependence, and the knowing process and dynamic capabilities. Originality/Value. One of the differentials of this paper is the attention given to knowledge as the main piece for the construction of the bridge between these theories. Research limitations/Future research. An interface between the RBT and Institutional theory is necessary for a further development and understanding of concepts such as dynamic capabilities. Paper type – conceptual.

Abstract:
Resource-based theory (RBT) has long been used to gain a perspective for understanding the relationship between human resource management and the attainment of effective organizational leadership. In this study, we investigate the effect of transformational leadership (TL) on employee intrinsic and extrinsic job satisfaction. In addition, we examine whether mediators in employee group interaction behaviors act as mediators in the TL process. Overall, we attained significant results which were consistent with the RBT predictions but we moved beyond previous RBT studies, offering new findings and insights. It was found that TL has a significant influence on both interaction behaviors and employee job satisfaction, interaction behaviors have a significant influence on satisfaction, and the interaction behaviors act as mediators to enhance the effect of TL on satisfaction. It is suggested that interaction behaviors should be incorporated with TL to increase employee satisfaction because interaction behaviors are highly dependent on TL to support the integration of information, resources, and technology in group goal attainment, which helps to increase satisfaction.

Abstract:
Notwithstanding the many criticisms of the core propositions of the theory, the RBT has found many applications in various disciplines. In this paper, the author applies the core principles of the theory to highlight a strategic plant genetic resource available to farmers and agricultural practitioners in Ghana. While a number of different theoretical positions can contribute to an understanding of the concept and relevance of these often neglected crops, the RBT is used as a lens to analyse and provide some perspectives on the NUCS advantage. The intention is to create a sense of urgency among relevant stakeholders in Ghana’s agricultural sector on the need to fully embrace this critical ‘internal’ resource’ in its effort at addressing the constraints to food insecurity among rural households. The paper concludes with the author’s own perspectives and recommendations. Citation: F. Baa-Poku. Abstract:
For some time now, the resource-based theory (RBT) has been used as a perspective in understanding the relationship between resources (or capabilities) and performance; however, there is a dearth of empirical research shedding light on why some firms successfully use their capabilities while others do not. Thus, in this study the effects on performance of three resource variables were investigated: human resources (HR), information technology (IT), and marketing knowledge (MK). Results showed: the positive performance of IT, MK, and HR capabilities (β = .275, .254, and .027, p < .01, respectively); and exploratory results with multiple hierarchical/interaction regressions suggested that two- and three-way interactions enhanced performance. These new findings suggest that these three capabilities are important business resources since they significantly improved performance.

Abstract:
The Total Antioxidant Index (TAA-I) can be viewed as a wine added value, for which consumers are willing to pay, and as a determinant in developing successful differentiated marketing strategies. This interdisciplinary study aims to harness potentials existing in an evidence-based wine TAA-I and territorial data on wine production. According to the Resource Based Theory (RBT), only above-average performances identify valuable resources. By applying the theory, data on regional areas planted with vines as well as a seminal study ranking thirteen selected Italian wines based on their TAA-I have been analyzed. Wine growing vocation represents a valuable resource only in six out of twenty Italian regions. Eleven vine areas of origin can be assumed as being important, especially in Northern and Central Italy. The TAA-I positions achieved by selected wines are far from being expressed, and thus promoted, by adopting labels based on production traditions. The 1997 sample database adopted by this study needs to be updated with a more recent one and expanded in further researches. Thus, researches of evidencebased marketing, thus hidden and objective quality attributes of wine, are needed and urgent but still in their infancy. Results obtained by this study allow decision makers to set-up a RBT-rooted benchmark system connecting biomedical studies, economic and marketing studies.

Abstract:
According to recent studies applying Resource-Based Theory [RBT] to entrepreneurial firms (e.g. Chandler & Hanks, 1994; Brush & Greene, 1996), in the early stages of new venture development it is the identification and acquisition of resources—rather than deployment or allocation activities—that is crucial for the firm's long-term success (Stevenson & Gumpert, 1985). This study explores that relationship longitudinally, tracking salient resources in three rapidly growing new ventures, and analyzing how these resources change over time. Our findings identify the most common types of salient resources, the primary types of changes in resource and resource bundles, and a pattern linking the type of change with short-term performance results in each firm.

Abstract:
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to explore the benefits of integrating the theory of constraints (TOC), resources-based theory (RBT), resource advantage theory (RAT), with a structured project-based methodology e.g., Project Management Body of Knowledge. This paper describes each theory and explores what benefits a unified model would bring to project management. This paper represents the conceptual development of an integrated framework that will be tested in a range of project management scenarios in various industrial sectors. Design/methodology/approach – Extant literature is used to develop a conceptual framework of an integrated model that will be tested in the field for robustness. The model has been applied to published projects to identify its strengths and weaknesses. Findings – The work shows important implications for improved success of projects from the use of TOC, RAT and resource dependence theory (RDT). Specifically, it emphasizes the need for application of strategic theories to project management. Research limitations/implications – While TOC, RAT and RDT are well established in the context of organization theory, there is limited application in project management. Moreover, the model has yet to be applied in the field. The hypotheses identified in this research are currently being tested using field-based surveys. Practical implications – The research falls short in addressing some resources, e.g. innovation, tacit knowledge and decision making methods in traditional project management context. Therefore, identifying these critical resources in future work and exploiting them as the means of improving project performance would enhance the success of project-based management. Social implications – Project management is an emergent discipline and a project is temporary in nature. Therefore, new ideas and development of theories for project management practices are required. This innovative research, for example, may change the way projects are executed in future. Originality/value – This paper examines the components of a successful project according to the iron triangle, i.e. scope, quality, time and cost. However, through the application of TOC, RAT and RDT into an integrated project-based management framework gives new insights to resources management.

Abstract:
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to contribute to a growing body of research on the applicability of resource-based theory (RBT) to the information systems (IS) area. In particular, the paper provides an understanding of the IS value creation process, and strategies for managing it by demonstrating the application of cross-impact analysis. Design/methodology/approach – RBT and systems theory are adopted as a theoretical framework in this study. Cross-impact analysis is used as a method for investigating interactions among elements of an IS value creation system. These elements were identified through 22 semi-structured interviews with organisational stakeholders, and assessed in terms of direction and strength of their interactions, and depicted in a coordinate system. Findings – The result of the analysis is a meaningful classification of elements in an IS value creation system as: levers, indicators, identities, buffers or trends, based on their position in the system. The results provide additional clarity and insights into the relationships between IS and organisational resources and their effect on IS value. Research limitations/implications – The research findings have important implications for researchers and managers in terms of understanding the impact of interactions among IS and organisational resources on formulating successful strategies for managing the IS value creation system. Originality/value – This study explores interactions among IS/information technology resources and organisational resources by using cross-impact analysis. It shows that interactions among the identified resources do have a major influence on the overall IS value creation system.

Abstract:
Mobile government (m-Government) is highly valued by many countries and governments worldwide for its important technical, economic, and political benefits. A development trend worthy of attention in China is that various public mobile services are provided through the cooperation between governments and Internet enterprises. The m-Government cooperation, as component of the public service system, has both a benefit safeguard function by mitigating transaction hazards and a value creation function by sharing advantageous resources. Previous studies have not explained both functions for m-Government cooperation. This study addresses this research gap. We establish a theoretical model by developing hypotheses from integrating model of Transaction Costs Theory (TCT) and Resource-based Theory (RBT). The OLS and Poisson regression method are used to test the proposed model by using cross-sectional data collected from 284 cities in China. Results show that strategy alliance, technology-specific knowhow, and financial security positively influence m-Government cooperation, asset specificity negatively influences the m-Government cooperation, and environmental certainty has no significant impact on m-Government cooperation. From the perspectives of technology, policy, and culture, the article puts forward suggestions on how to better promote m-Government cooperation in China, including promoting the government’s digital capabilities, improving the citizen’ privacy protection system and cultivating a public-private cooperative culture of mutual trust.

Abstract:
Resource-based theory (RBT) has not been systematically applied to strategizing the market-related assets of the firm. By examining the role of these intangible assets in the context of small business management, the authors attempt, in this article, to put forward an environment–resources–performance contingency model, synthesizing the various findings in the literature on ‘marketing assets of SMEs’. The conceptual framework is deployed to assess innovativeness and operational superiority through market-related assets within 64 small and medium-sized firms operating in the Finnish meat-processing industry. The empirical results indicate strong positive associations between the key constructs involved, and further indicate that these relationships have a contingency-specific profile. The implications of these findings for practice and research are discussed.

Abstract:
Green supply chain management (GSCM) is a driver of sustainable strategy. This topic is becoming increasingly important for both academia and industry. With the increasing demand for reducing carbon foot prints, there is a need to study the drivers of sustainable development. There is also need for developing the sustainability model. Using resource based theory (RBT) the present model for sustainable strategy has been developed. On the basis of data collected, the key drivers of sustainability were developed. We used regression and correlation analysis for developing the final model. The study findings suggest that the drivers of GSCM are the environmental policy and the green human resource management (GHRM). This can be done by providing training for adopting sustainability practices. Besides this, another key driver is the sustainability criteria in supplier selection which was found to be enhancing the outcomes of sustainability. The model has practical and theoretical value as it proposes that management support for implementing the sustainability strategy in the organization is essential. The study also guides the managers for implementing sustainable supply chain management practices in the organization.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explore the determinants, transactional alignment and performance outcomes of franchise contract length using transaction costs theory (TCT) and resource-based theory (RBT). Design/methodology/approach The author hypothesizes that franchisors choose contract length according to TCT and RBT arguments. TCT explains the safeguarding function of contracts: the franchisors will offer longer contracts when franchisees’ specific investments are high and environmental uncertainty is low. RBT highlights the knowledge leverage function of contracts: the franchisors will offer longer contracts when the brand name and intangible knowledge assets are high. Franchise companies that design contract length aligned with transactional attributes will perform better. The author tests the misalignment hypothesis and comparative performance of franchise contracts by estimating two-stage least squares regression and Heckman two-stage procedure that control for endogeneity and self-selection. Findings Empirical data from the German franchise sector support the hypotheses. In addition to the safeguarding function, franchise contracts have an important knowledge leverage function. Longer contracts perform better due to the development of relational strategic assets and stronger commitment. Research limitations/implications Franchisors must offer longer contracts when specific investments of franchisees, brand name, intangible knowledge assets are high, and environmental uncertainty is low. Franchisors should invest in the development of relational strategic assets and offer longer contracts for the benefit of superior performance. Originality/value The study addresses the significant question of transactional alignment and comparative performance of franchise contracts. It empirically confirms the importance of RBT in explaining contractual choices and performance.

Abstract:
Based on Resource Based Theory (RBT), the competitiveness of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) depends on the uniqueness of resources used in the production and delivering of goods and services. Moreover, the innovation capability of SMEs is critical in enhancing their uniqueness. Various factors, however, could potentially influence SME innovation performance. This present study thus focuses on how SME innovation performance could be enhanced through the three dimensions of network embeddedness (relational, structural and cognitive). Founded on Resource Dependency Theory (RDT), the study seeks to demonstrate how SMEs could tap into the rich external resources within the networks they are embedded in. The study was based on 388 SMEs selected using a purposive sampling technique. A structured questionnaire was used for the data collection, with the data analyzed by structural equation modeling performed in Amos (v.20). The findings revealed that relational, structural and cognitive embeddedness had a positive effect on innovation performance, while structural embeddedness had the greatest impact on SME innovation performance. As such, SMEs seeking to improve their innovation performance through networks should pay critical attention to the network tie and density. Past studies on network embeddedness and innovation performance have shown conflicting results, and therefore this present study makes a notable contribution to the ongoing debate. Past studies have indicated a positive, negative, inverted u-shape, and even no significant relationship at all between the various dimensions of network embeddedness and innovation performance.

Design/methodology/approach Presenting the narrative of developing economies local government context, this paper conducts an extensive review of relevant literature on green human resources management (GHRM) and green recruitment and selection. Findings Drawing on Siyambalapitiya et al. (2018) and the resource-based theory (RBT), the paper proposes and discusses an evaluation framework for guiding organizations’ green candidate selection process. The framework comprises of seven stages which begins with “training recruiters on green candidate assessment” to “making selection decision and inducting selected candidate” on organization’s environmental management policies and practices, and its green values. Research limitations/implications Application of the proposed framework has implications for enhancing organizations’ efficiency, reducing cost, eliminating environment waste, as well as fostering green culture among employees. This paper also extends the strand of RBT by explaining how organizations could assess and select job applicants with significant intangible capability such as environmental management skills, knowledge and values to foster its competitive urge and sustainability. Originality/value This paper makes two main contribution to the GHRM literature. First, the paper proposes a new typological environmentally sustainable human resources management evaluation framework. Secondly, the paper focuses the framework on developing economies and local government organizations context, something that is currently non-existent.

Abstract:
Institutional accounting functions are critical actors in the success of every organisation and emphasise distinct effectiveness compared to other practices. Meanwhile existing research has examined general knowledge management (KM) and its association with effectiveness at an overall institutional level. However, studies on the impact of KM capabilities on institutional accounting functional effectiveness (FE) is sparse. This study evaluates the impact of KM on institutional accounting FE based on resource-based theory (RBT) at various levels of analysis. Utilising empirical evidence, accounting knowledge management (AKM)-based effectiveness model was developed. Data were collected through a questionnaire survey of accounting officers in public research institutions in Malaysia. The study data were initially analysed using statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) version 23.0 and hypothesised relationship tested via partial least square structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM). Interestingly, the results provide support for the developed research AKM model underpinned by RBT viewpoint. AKM infrastructure (AKMI) and process capabilities impact institutional accounting FE significantly and AKM process capability partially mediates the influence of AKMI capability. The study offers new insight into the relationship between KM and institutional accounting practices. Thus, they create avenues for future research and directions for KM policy decisions in institutions.

Abstract:
The aim of the paper is therefore to analyze firm’s leaders (CEOs’) dynamic capabilities in managing the firm’s resources, able to generate sustainable competitive advantage and to create value, as well as to verify how the so created value is distributed between the firm and the CEO. The analysis has been conducted on firms operating in tourism industry and precisely on hotel chains. Among these, some representative firms have been selected and analyzed through case study method. In order to test the research’s hypotheses, a logistic regression model, Moreno sociogram and Guttman scale have been applied. The paper proposes an interesting perspective for studying dynamic resources real use within organization, trying to point out the value they are able to generate and how this value is appropriated. The proposed analysis is an application of Resource-based theory approach to the study of dynamic capabilities creation and their relative generated rent appropriation. From this perspective, it represents a further step in RBT studies, in its connections with other disciplines on the topic. An interesting aspect of the research is that the attention on value creation and distribution rather than just on firm’s performance opens to new horizons in strategic management.

Supported by the literature on big data, supply chain management (SCM), and resource-based theory (RBT), this study aims to evaluate the organizational variables that influence the intention of Saudi SCM professionals to adopt big data analytics (BDA) in SCM. A survey of 220 supply chain respondents revealed that both top management support and data-driven culture have a high significant influence on their intention to adopt BDA. However, the firm entrepreneurial orientation showed no significant effect. Also, the findings revealed that supply chain connectivity positively moderates the link between top management support and intention. This study contributes to the practical field, offering valuable insights for decision makers considering BDA adoption in SCM. It also contributes to the literature by helping minimize the research gap in BDA adoption in the Saudi context.

This conceptual paper proposes social capital as a possible moderator of the relationship between commonly identified knowledge sharing enablers in the literature and knowledge sharing (KS). A literature review was carried out to determine the contextual influence of the level of social capital within communities of practice (CoPs). Propositions were developed based on a review of past studies addressing KS enablers and KS. The literature review revealed that prior studies built on resource-based theory (RBT) and knowledge-based view of the firm (KBV) focused on organizational enablers of KS without any concern for the contextual influence such as the level of social capital of CoPs. Further analysis indicated that social capital could possibly moderate the impact of commonly identified KS enablers. These insights are presented as propositions in this conceptual paper. This paper addresses a gap in the area of KS. It questions the results of past studies and proposes the needs to consider the level of social capital when identifying appropriate KS enablers.

Abstract:
This conceptual paperis to study the relationship of entrepreneurial competencies on business success in the context of Malaysian SMEs. Inthe recent study, when the business environment is hostile and dynamic, the entrepreneurial competencies are identified as the most important factor in business success. Entrepreneurial competencies are also connected directly to business performance.Beside entrepreneurial competencies, the entrepreneurs should also be competent to create an innovation and brand equity for business growth. The innovation and brand equity contributed to competitive advantages that lead to business growth and success. This paper adopts the Resource Based Theory (RBT) which emphasize that entrepreneurial competencies, innovation, and brand equity are valuable and intangible resources that lead towards the success of business. There is a dearth of studies that have examined the influence of innovation and brand equity on the relationship of entrepreneurial competencies on thesuccess of Malaysian SMEs business. Therefore the current study strives to investigate the mediating impact of innovation and brand equity on the relationship between entrepreneurial competencies and SMEs business success. This conceptual study will contribute to the existing body knowledge as well as to entrepreneurs of Malaysian’s SMEs.

Abstract:
Purpose – Many changes taking place in the nonprofit sector have created an environment in which organizational learning could be regarded as representing a high-profile notion with strategic importance for nonprofit organizations (NPOs), but its application in the nonprofit sector has not received adequate research attention. The purpose of this paper is to present an empirical test of the relationship between learning orientation and NPO performance. Design/methodology/approach – Literature on organizational learning is briefly reviewed and a marketing-focussed perspective on learning is adopted. Then drawing from resource-based theory and relationship marketing, a conceptual model is developed that links learning orientation to NPO performance, predicting that noneconomic performance would mediate between learning orientation and economic performance. Using Baron and Kenny’s mediation regression procedure, this prediction is subjected to an empirical test with survey data collected on 118 NPOs operating in Ghana. Findings – The paper finds a general support for the view that noneconomic performance is the primary organizational feature that drives economic performance and that learning orientation is an outgrowth of this characteristic. Originality/value – This study addresses the important question of whether paying attention to their mission helps NPOs acquire critical resources from their funding entities, discussing this issue in the context of organizational learning to respond to RBT scholars’ call for more research that highlight the underlying processes through which strategic resources (such as organizational learning) contribute to the organization’s financial outcomes.

Abstract:
PurposeFollowing “AMO” framework and resource-based theory (RBT), the current study empirically examines the relationships between high-involvement human resource management (HI HRM) practices, employee functional flexibility (FF) and innovative work behavior (IWB). Furthermore, the mediating effect of FF has also been tested.Design/methodology/approachDescriptive statistics, correlation, hierarchical regression analysis, baron and Kenny, PROCESS Macro and Sobel Test approach were used on a sample of 894 employees of manufacturing concerns.FindingsFindings revealed a direct effect of HI HRM practices on FF and IWB. In addition, the results confirm that FF positively mediates between HI HRM practices and IWB. Furthermore, three dimensions of HI HRM practices, i.e. ability-enhancing (AE), motivation-enhancing (ME) and opportunity-enhancing (OE) HRM practices also predicted FF and IWB.Practical implicationsThis study not only offers the empirical evidence to validate the findings of past researchers, but also provide insight how HI HRM practices flourish the mechanism of FF in manufacturing concerns. Furthermore, this study highlighted some interesting facts that should be meaningful options for HR managers to enhance the level of employees' FF and IWB.Originality/valueAlthough the empirical evidence is well established that HI HRM practices have a substantial contribution for organizational performance, however, there is lack of studies that empirically examine the associations among HI HRM practices, employee's competencies and behaviors, as well as the mechanism through which HI HRM practices affect work related innovative behavior. Finally, in distinguishing from the past studies, this study explores HI HRM practices as an important predictor of FF in addressing the IWB.

Abstract:
Nurturing talented workforce is becoming of increasing importance to both public and private sector organizations, as it is easier for an organization with a talented and well-managed workforce to achieve its short and long term aims and objectives than an organization without it. The thrust of this study is to examine the effects of talent management on performance in the public sector, using the resource-based theory (RBT) that clearly states how a valuable, non-substitutable, rare and difficult to imitate employee adds to the competitive advantage of an organization. This kind of employee helps position the organization for short and long-term successes. The survey design was used and data were analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistics. The stated hypotheses were tested using Pearson Moment Correlation Coefficient. Findings revealed that adequate talent management strategy is needed to enhance performance in public sector organizations as it will help in the maintenance of core competencies, employees’ retention, commitment, increase productivity, as well as lower recruitment costs. The study concludes that no matter the quality and quantity of resources spent on skills sharpening, career support, innovation, training, etc. if adequate strategies are not developed to manage talents within an organization, more resources will be spent on talent acquisition regularly without corresponding results. The study recommends that the process of having a talented workforce should begin from the acquisition (hiring) stage and should flow through the compensation and retention stages. Thus, public organizations should, at all times, identify areas that talent replacements are needed at present, as well as develop the skills and competencies of the employees to take up leadership roles in the future or when the need arises. With this, the organization will have suitable hands to fill in top managerial positions when a senior staff retires, dies, or whenever the need arises.

Abstract:
In the human resource system of modern enterprises, human-post matching big data occupies an important irreplaceable position. With the deepening of the reform of state-owned enterprises, some shortcomings of human-post matching big data have become prominent. The purpose of this article is to solve the current state-owned enterprises. There are a variety of problems with big data in the enterprise, and an effective method is found that can accurately evaluate the degree of human-job matching in state-owned enterprises and provide a scientific basis for the manager of talent and resource allocation to make more rational decisions. Through the radial basis function (RBF) neural network-based big data model of human-post matching evaluation of state-owned enterprises, we scientifically and effectively evaluate the matching degree of the quality and ability of the personnel with the relevant requirements of the position and then help the company to adjust the personnel at any time changes in positions to maximize the efficiency of human resources. In this paper, considering the actual situation of the enterprise, the RBF neural network and the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) method are used comprehensively. Firstly, the AHP is used to obtain the weight of each evaluation index in the human-post matching index system. At the same time, the artificial neural network theory is self-adapting. Learning is helpful to solve the problem that the AHP method is too subjective. The two learn from each other’s strong points and combine their weaknesses organically to increase the convenience and effectiveness of evaluation.

Abstract:
Multiangle social network recommendation algorithms (MSN) and a new assessment method, called similarity network evaluation (SNE), are both proposed. From the viewpoint of six dimensions, the MSN are classified into six algorithms, including user-based algorithm from resource point (UBR), user-based algorithm from tag point (UBT), resource-based algorithm from tag point (RBT), resource-based algorithm from user point (RBU), tag-based algorithm from resource point (TBR), and tag-based algorithm from user point (TBU). Compared with the traditional recall/precision (RP) method, the SNE is more simple, effective, and visualized. The simulation results show that TBR and UBR are the best algorithms, RBU and TBU are the worst ones, and UBT and RBT are in the medium levels.

Abstract:
Research-based theatre (RbT) is an innovative research methodology that draws on theatre practices and conventions to engage in and share research. It is an inherently collaborative and relational methodology, inviting research participants, artists and researchers to take part in embodied data generation, analysis and knowledge-exchange activities. This methodology encompasses writing, rehearsing and performing a research-based monologue, scene or play. In this article, the authors share three recent examples from interdisciplinary projects where researchers and artists engaged with different communities to dramatize data using an RbT methodological approach. To add to literature in the field, the authors consider their experiences leading RbT projects in three disparate fields: theatrical, social and therapeutic. The authors explore the question of how RbT transforms relationships and how relationships transform RbT.

Abstract Background Protease inhibitor-based antiretroviral therapy may be used in resource-limited settings in persons with human immunodeficiency virus and tuberculosis (HIV-TB). Data on safety, pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics (PK/PD), and HIV-TB outcomes for lopinavir/ritonavir (LPV/r) used with rifampin (RIF) or rifabutin (RBT) are limited. Methods We randomized adults with HIV-TB from July 2013 to February 2016 to arm A, LPV/r 400 mg/100 mg twice daily + RBT 150 mg/day; arm B, LPV/r 800 mg/200 mg twice daily + RIF 600 mg/day; or arm C, LPV/r 400 mg/100 mg twice daily + raltegravir (RAL) 400 mg twice daily + RBT 150 mg/day. All received two nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors and other TB drugs. PK visits occurred on day 12 ± 2. Within-arm HIV-TB outcomes were summarized using proportions and 95% CIs; PK were compared using Wilcoxon tests. Results Among 71 participants, 52% were women; 72% Black; 46% Hispanic; median age, 37 years; median CD4+ count, 130 cells/mm3; median HIV-1 RNA, 4.6 log10 copies/mL; 46% had confirmed TB. LPV concentrations were similar across arms. Pooled LPV AUC12 (157 203 hours × ng/mL) and Ctrough (9876 ng/mL) were similar to historical controls; RBT AUC24 (7374 hours × ng/mL) and Ctrough (208 ng/mL) were higher, although 3 participants in arm C had RBT Cmax <250 ng/mL. Proportions with week 48 HIV-1 RNA <400 copies/mL were 58%, 67%, and 61%, respectively, in arms A, B, and C. Conclusions Double-dose LPV/r+RIF and LPV/r+RBT 150mg/day had acceptable safety, PK and TB outcomes; HIV suppression was suboptimal but unrelated to PK. Faster RBT clearance and low Cmax in 3 participants on RBT+RAL requires further study.

Abstract:
This study aims to compare the reliability of SOLO and revised Bloom's taxonomy-based (RBT) classifications in the determination of the cognitive levels of the assessment questions. The data were obtained by three experts' examination of the assessment questions in the Seventh Grade Social Studies Textbook published by the Ministry of National Education and Eight Grade Science and Technology Textbook published by Yıldırım Publishing in 2015. The collected data were analyzed in a crossed design whereby the assessment questions were the object of measurement and the experts were the facet on the basis of the generalizability theory. It was found that the variance percentage of the main effect of the assessment question was found to be higher in the SOLO-based classifications. The variance component related to the experts' main effect and the residual variance values were found to be higher in the RBT than in the SOLO taxonomy. In conclusion, compared to the RBT, the SOLO-based classifications were found to have higher G and Phi coefficients. These results indicate that SOLO taxonomy seems to be more reliable than RBT in the determination of the cognitive level of assessment questions.

This paper examines the relationship between resource-based theory and entrepreneurship and develops insights that advance the boundaries of resource-based theory and begin to address important questions in entrepreneurship. We extend the boundaries of resource-based theory to include the cognitive ability of individual entrepreneurs. Entrepreneurs have individual-specific resources that facilitate the recognition of new opportunities and the assembling of resources for the venture. By focusing on resources, from opportunity recognition to the ability to organize these resources into a firm and then to the creation of heterogeneous outputs through the firm that are superior to the market, we help identify issues that begin to address the distinctive domain of entrepreneurship.

Abstract:

Abstract:
The resource-based view of the firm has not been systematically applied to strategic alliances. By examining the role of firm resources in strategic alliances, we attempt, in this paper, to put forward a general resource-based theory of strategic alliances, synthesizing the various findings in the literature on alliances from a resource-based view. The proposed theory covers four major aspects of strategic alliances: rationale, formation, structural preferences, and performance. The resource-based view suggests that the rationale for alliances is the value-creation potential of firm resources that are pooled together. We note that certain resource characteristics, such as imperfect mobility, imitability, and substitutability, promise accentuated value-creation, and thus facilitate alliance formation. We discuss how the resource profiles of partner firms would determine their structural preferences in terms of four major categories of alliances: equity joint ventures, minority equity alliances, bilateral contract-based alliances, and unilateral contract-based alliances. As part of the theory, we propose a typology of inter-partner resource alignment based on the two dimensions of resource similarity and resource utilization, yielding four types of alignment: supplementary, surplus, complementary, and wasteful. We also discuss how partner resource alignment directly affects collective strengths and inter-firm conflicts in alliances, which in turn contribute to alliance performance. Finally, we develop a number of propositions to facilitate empirical testing of the theoretical framework, suggest ways to carry out this testing, indicate future research directions, and list some of the more significant managerial implications of the framework.

Abstract:
This paper summarizes and comments on Conner (1991) that contributes to the strategic management area by providing an historical comparison of resource-based theory and five schools of thought within industrial organization economics. Conner (1991) argues that the fundamental distinction between resource-based theory and transaction costs theory is that resource-based theory focuses on the deployment and combination of specific inputs while transaction costs theory focuses on the avoidance of opportunism. I offer three responses to this claim. First, Conner’s distinction was not central to the resource-based literature at the time the article was published. Second, I raise concerns about building a resource-based theory of the firm that assumes away the problems of opportunistic behavior. Third, I offer an alternative view of the fundamental similarities and differences between resource-based theory and transaction costs theory.
