Abstract:
This paper examines the relationship between resource-based theory and entrepreneurship and develops insights that advance the boundaries of resource-based theory and begin to address important questions in entrepreneurship. We extend the boundaries of resource-based theory to include the cognitive ability of individual entrepreneurs. Entrepreneurs have individual-specific resources that facilitate the recognition of new opportunities and the assembling of resources for the venture. By focusing on resources, from opportunity recognition to the ability to organize these resources into a firm and then to the creation of heterogeneous outputs through the firm that are superior to the market, we help identify issues that begin to address the distinctive domain of entrepreneurship.

Abstract:
The resource-based view of the firm has not been systematically applied to strategic alliances. By examining the role of firm resources in strategic alliances, we attempt, in this paper, to put forward a general resource-based theory of strategic alliances, synthesizing the various findings in the literature on alliances from a resource-based view. The proposed theory covers four major aspects of strategic alliances: rationale, formation, structural preferences, and performance. The resource-based view suggests that the rationale for alliances is the value-creation potential of firm resources that are pooled together. We note that certain resource characteristics, such as imperfect mobility, imitability, and substitutability, promise accentuated value-creation, and thus facilitate alliance formation. We discuss how the resource profiles of partner firms would determine their structural preferences in terms of four major categories of alliances: equity joint ventures, minority equity alliances, bilateral contract-based alliances, and unilateral contract-based alliances. As part of the theory, we propose a typology of inter-partner resource alignment based on the two dimensions of resource similarity and resource utilization, yielding four types of alignment: supplementary, surplus, complementary, and wasteful. We also discuss how partner resource alignment directly affects collective strengths and inter-firm conflicts in alliances, which in turn contribute to alliance performance. Finally, we develop a number of propositions to facilitate empirical testing of the theoretical framework, suggest ways to carry out this testing, indicate future research directions, and list some of the more significant managerial implications of the framework.

Abstract:
The assumptions of the resource-based theory (RBV) are often tested using an approach centered on the heterogeneity of resources, allowing only identify specific resources or capabilities that should be exploited to achieve competitive advantage. In this paper we use a conceptual approach seeking to test whether value, rare and inimitable combinations of resources and capabilities, rather than their specificity, achieve competitive advantage and performance. The results obtained from 368 questionnaires validated by business managers of several Portuguese economic sectors show that the increase in value, rarity and inimitability of the combinations tested, raises the company's competitive advantage, and that performance is achieved by this route. The findings are of interest for the development of the field of strategic management and for managers enabling strategic decision-making based on valuable, rare and inimitable company`s resources and capabilities combinations.

Abstract:
This paper summarizes and comments on Conner (1991) that contributes to the strategic management area by providing an historical comparison of resource-based theory and five schools of thought within industrial organization economics. Conner (1991) argues that the fundamental distinction between resource-based theory and transaction costs theory is that resource-based theory focuses on the deployment and combination of specific inputs while transaction costs theory focuses on the avoidance of opportunism. I offer three responses to this claim. First, Conner’s distinction was not central to the resource-based literature at the time the article was published. Second, I raise concerns about building a resource-based theory of the firm that assumes away the problems of opportunistic behavior. Third, I offer an alternative view of the fundamental similarities and differences between resource-based theory and transaction costs theory.

Abstract:
Background and Objectives: The purpose of this study is to review the resource-based view theory on service quality that contribute to and expand internal resources and services of high quality. Several empirical studies have examined how to apply resource-based view theory to exploiting opportunities in higher education. With the help of this resource-based view theory, urban higher education can apply how to obtain and mobilize additional resources or use existing resources more efficiently and effectively to increase the productivity of existing resources to improve the quality of education services. Perhaps providing high-quality service based views are hampered by a lack of resources for urban education institutions and new ventures, and for them to survive, the resource constraints should address effectively. The issue in this paper is how the RBV theory or concept is to be studied in urban higher education so that researchers and organizations can benefit from this perspective. Methodology: The RBV framework was used to delimit the review so that the research method used in this paper is an empirical approach through a study of journals and supporting journals related to the topic under study. This paper evaluated and reviewed several empirical studies in terms of methodology and strategy that used to apply and implement the resourcebased view theory to improve the service based view quality of students' retention. Many articles indicated quantitative methods as the method strategy, but restrictions showed qualitative and mixed methods that should be concerned in future research. Findings: This article's literature search aimed at obtaining a usable sample of recently published papers to provide a sense of the conceptual gaps, knowledge gaps, methodological gaps and problem gaps in several resource-based (RBV) industries, but lesser are using in education. The dynamics and heterogeneity in this field of science encourage university researchers to develop and strengthen RBV theory. With this development, the concepts and theories of management are expected to be useful for academics. Recommendation & Limitation: On the critical reviews above, specific recommendations may in future serve as the key to enriching resource-based views. In this article, mixed and qualitative methods should be used to obtain accurate results. Additional attention should be paid to future research into higher education institutional resources, and integrate tangible and intangible resources into organizational capacity. Conclusion & Contribution: Resource-based view theory appears to have the capability to leverage resources and create more opportunities with fewer funds when applied to urban systems. One of the biggest contributions of this article is the direct strategy of scholars towards empirical studies and finding of resources as an essential antecedent to service quality and end to educational performance.

Abstract:
In modern world of sensing and distributive systems, traditional Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) has to deal with new challenges, such as multiple application requirements, dynamic and heterogeneous networks. Senor nodes in WSN are resource constrained in terms of energy, communication range, bandwidth, processing delay and memory. Numerous solutions are proposed to optimize the performance and to increase the lifetime of WSN by introducing new resource management principles. Effective and intelligent resource management in WSN involves in resource identification, resource scheduling, and resource utilization. This paper proposes a Bayesian Game Model (BGM) approach to efficiently identify the best node with the maximum resource in WSN for data transmission, considering energy, bandwidth, and computational delay. The scheme operates as follows: (1) Sensor nodes information such as residual energy, available bandwidth, and node ID, etc., is gathered (2) Energy and bandwidth of each node are used to generate the payoff matrix (3) Implementation of node identification scheme is based on payoff matrix, utilities assigned, strategies and reputation of each node (4) Find Bayesian Nash Equilibrium condition using Starring algorithm (5) Solving the Bayesian Nash Equilibrium using Law of Total Probability and identifying the best node with maximum resources (6) Adding/Subtracting reward (reputation factor) to winner/looser node. Simulation results show that the performance of the proposed Bayesian game model approach for resource identification in WSN is better as compared with the Efficient Neighbour Discovery Scheme for Mobile WSN (ENDWSN). The results indicate that the proposed scheme has up to 12% more resource identification accuracy rate, 10% increase in the average number of efficient resources discovered and 8% less computational delay as compared to ENDWSN.

Abstract:
Workflow is becoming a more and more important tool for business operations, scientific research and engineering. Cloud computing provides an elastic, on-demand and high cost-efficient resource allocation model for workflow executions. During workflow execution, the load will change from time to time and therefore, it becomes an interesting topic to optimize resource utilization of workflows in the cloud computing environment. In this paper, a workflow framework is proposed that can adaptively use cloud resources. In detail, after users specify the desired goal to achieve, the proposed workflow framework then monitors the workflow execution, and utilizes different pricing models to acquire cloud resources according to the change of workflow load. In this way, the cost of workflow execution is reduced. .

This article explains how viewing resource-based theory within Brandenburger and Stuart’s value creation framework adds clarity to the theory as a whole and to its essential elements including the definition of its dependent variables, its approach to value creation, and its approach to the appropriation of economic value. Building on this foundation, the article addresses several questions about resource-based theory: Is it a theory or a view? Is resource-based theory tautological? Is resource-based theory static? How important are stakeholders within resource-based theory? Does resource-based theory constitute a theory of the firm? Does resource-based theory acknowledge industry structure’s role in explaining firm performance? Does resource-based theory incorporate uncertainty? Does resource-based theory have strong managerial implications? In accomplishing these tasks, the article sets the stage for the further evolution and application of resource-based theory.

Abstract:
Purpose This paper aims to predict a college football team’s competitiveness using physical resources, human resources and organizational resources. Design/methodology/approach Guided by the resource-based theory, the study used archival data of 101 college football teams. The dependent variable was competitiveness (indicated by win-loss records), the independent variables were physical resources (operationalized as home attendance and total revenues), human resources (measured as coaches’ salary and coaches’ experience) and organizational resources (specified as conference rankings and the number of sports). Kendall Tau correlation and binary logistic regression were used to examine the associative and predictive competitive advantages. Findings The binary logistic regression model showed an overall percentage predictive correctness of 71.3%, with a Negelkerke R2 of 41.1% of the variance of all predictors – with coaches’ experience, total revenues and home attendance being the best predictors of generating competitive advantages that produced superior win-loss records. Research limitations/implications The research focused exclusively on physical, organizational and human resources as sources of competitive advantage and not physiological and/or psychological variables. Practical implications College football teams aspiring to be competitive may benefit from this study by applying a three-fold strategy of hiring well-paid high performing and experienced coaches who can increase attendance and revenues. Originality/value The study was unique in two ways – one, it made clear the positive significance of coaches’ experience as a source of competitive advantage, and second, it highlighted the catalytic effects of revenues and attendance in fueling competitiveness.

Abstract:
AbstractResource pooling in ad hoc networks deals with accumulating computing and network resources to implement network control schemes such as routing, congestion, traffic management, and so on. Pooling of resources can be accomplished using the distributed and dynamic nature of ad hoc networks to achieve collaboration between the devices. Ad hoc networks need a resource-pooling technique that offers quick response, adaptability, and reliability. In this context, we are proposing an opportunistic resource-pooling scheme that uses a cognitive computing model to accumulate the resources with faster resource convergence rate, reliability, and lower latency. The proposed scheme is implemented using the behaviors-observations-beliefs cognitive model, in which the resource-pooling decisions are made based on accumulated knowledge over various behaviors exhibited by nodes in ad hoc networks.

Abstract:
The resources in cloud environment have features such as large-scale, diversity, and heterogeneity. Moreover, the user requirements for cloud computing resources are commonly characterized by uncertainty and imprecision. Hereby, to improve the quality of cloud computing service, not merely should the traditional standards such as cost and bandwidth be satisfied, but also particular emphasis should be laid on some extended standards such as system friendliness. This paper proposes a dynamic resource scheduling method based on fuzzy control theory. Firstly, the resource requirements prediction model is established. Then the relationships between resource availability and the resource requirements are concluded. Afterwards fuzzy control theory is adopted to realize a friendly match between user needs and resources availability. Results show that this approach improves the resources scheduling efficiency and the quality of service (QoS) of cloud computing.

Abstract:
With the advent of the information age, the traditional practice teaching model presents many limitations and the popularization of the Internet makes the integration of network resources in the practice teaching of political theory courses begin to attract the attention of scholars. It has become the general trend to realize the integration of network resources in practical teaching. In view of some teachers’ lack of scientific research on the goal orientation of resource integration, there are phenomena of blind accumulation of resources, complex resource structure, and aging resource content in the teaching resource integration of the political theory course. Therefore, based on the excellent performance of the collaborative filtering algorithm in similarity, this paper improves the inaccurate and unstable situation of traditional political theory course network resource integration by modifying parameters such as Pearson similarity function and optimizing the algorithm structure. Strengthening the integration and utilization of practical teaching resources is conducive to improving the effectiveness of political theory course teaching and to alleviating the current situation of serious shortage of practical teaching resources in political theory courses.

AbstractResource based view and resource dependence theory in decision making process of public organisation - research findings One of the premises which build relationships between stakeholder and a public organisation are stakeholder’s resources which public organisation would like to possess and use. The other one is configuration of resources possessed by the public organisation that should allow the unit in question to realize stakeholder’s expectations.Above observations lead scientific inquiries to the two management theories - resource-based view (RBV) and resource dependence theory (RDT). The first one is orientated at resources owned by the organisation, the second one is orientated at the resources obtained from environment. The objective of this article is identification which orientation, RBV or RDT, dominates in decision making process in public organisations.

Abstract:
With the popularity of on-board intelligent devices, the number of vehicle computing intensive applications is also increasing rapidly. Due to the high mobility and limited computing power of the vehicle, and the extensive and changing demand for computing resources of the vehicle terminal, the vehicle often has insufficient computing power. In order to meet the needs of intensive computing applications of vehicle terminals, the computing tasks of vehicles can be unloaded to edge cloud servers (ECSs) with rich resources and high performance to enhance the computing power of vehicle terminals. However, the resource charge of ECS is high, and the scheme needs to consider such issues as ECS signal coverage, long task transmission delay caused by network congestion, and insufficient computing capacity of ECS. Therefore, this study considers unloading the computing tasks of vehicles with insufficient computing resources to nearby vehicles with redundant computing capacity and proposes a resource scheduling method for the Internet of vehicles based on blockchain and game theory. The scheduling of computing resources can reduce the computing workload of buyers’ vehicles and improve the operation efficiency of the whole vehicle network.

Abstract:
Together, Penrosean and Barnean resource-based logic make up the dominant theoretical approach to understanding firm growth. While extant literature focuses on a common lineage between Penrosean theory and the resource-based view (RBV), we explicate divergence at these origins of resource-based theorizing and subject the growth implications of each to meta-analytic testing. RBV’s central tenets concern resources that meet valuable, rare, inimitable, and nonsubstitutable (VRIN) criteria, while Penrose’s theory discusses the versatility of resources. Theoretically, VRIN resources allow firms to exploit unique opportunities, while versatile resources allow firms to recombine resources in novel ways to create growth. Using meta-analytic techniques, we find that versatile resources are associated with higher levels of growth, whereas VRIN resources are not. We offer novel insights into alternative characteristics of resources derived from the same conceptualization of the firm, add greater specificity to the performance construct, and open up avenues for new theorizing on firm growth that is more closely aligned with Penrose’s theory.

Abstract:
Resource recycling is one of the most important content of ecological civilization construction in China, which is beneficial to reduce the overuse of primary resources exploitation, to reduce the environmental pollutions during the process of resource extraction and waste disposal, and to realize the sustainable development of human economy and society. Resource recycling is a reflection of ecological economic development. Ecology provides a theoretical support for the resource circulation industry development. The ecological theories have played a guiding role. However, there are not enough academic researches to systematically summarize and analyze the relation and connection between ecology and resource recycling. Therefore, we based on the ecological theories to analyze the theoretical basis and application for resources recycling. The results showed that the ecological threshold theory, ecological balance theory, Overall hierarchy theory, the food chain (web) theory, niche theory and so on can be used to explain the resource circulation system such as resources recycling building concepts, resources recycling industry development foundation and the government's role in promoting resources circulation process. Based on the application of ecological theory for constructing the resource circulation system, further analysis of the scientific laws for the government regulation may help understand the concept of resource circulation and essence of circular economic system operation.
