The objective of the present research was to develop a system reliability-based bridge assessment method for damaged composite bridges. A response surface method was adopted in combination with the nonlinear finite element analyses, which provided a powerful tool for the evaluation of the reliability of a bridge system. Using the method, investigation was made into the effects of corrosion on the reliability of a bridge system. A numerical bridge model used for the present study was developed using an actual composite bridge in the UK. Commercial FE programmes such as ABAQUS and DIANA were use

Mechanical response tissue analysis (MRTA) provides a noninvasive means of estimating the cross-sectional bending stiffness (EI) of long bones, and thus can serve as a predictor of bone strength. Estimates of bone bending stiffness are derived from the point impedance response of a long bone to low frequency (70-500Hz) stimulation according to beam vibration theory. MRTA has demonstrated the ability to reliably estimate human ulnar bending stiffness with between-test coefficients of variation of 5%, and in vivo measurements of monkey tibiae have been validated with ex vivo 3-point mechanical

Abstract:
Modern computer systems, such as cloud or server farms, have been widely deployed to provide cost-effective and high-performance services. However, with the increasing scale and complexity, it is not a trivial task to achieve high reliability and consistently low response times. To address these issues, concurrent request replication has emerged as an effective mechanism to achieve these goals. With replication, r ≥ 1 replicas of each request are spawned simultaneously, and the results of the first k (1 ≤ k ≤ r) replicas to complete are used. Replication can thus handle unpredictable failures

A novel reliability evaluation method for large nonlinear engineering systems excited by dynamic loading applied in time domain is presented. For this class of problems, the performance functions are expected to be function of time and implicit in nature. Because of its inefficiency, the classical Monte Carlo simulation (MCS) method also cannot be used for large nonlinear dynamic systems. Abstract:
There are presently worldwide targets for decreasing anthropogenic greenhouse gases (GHGs) emissions owing to global climate change concerns. Here in the United Kingdom, the government has committed to reduce its GHGs emissions by at least 80% by 2050 relative to 1990 levels. In order to achieve the ambitious 2050 targets and minimise cumulative emissions along the way, modern power systems are facing a series of great challenges. These challenges include extensive utilisation of renewable generation, diverse demand--side participation in power system operation and planning, as well as conside

Abstract:
Information systems (IS) research frequently uses survey data to measure the interplay between technological systems and human beings. Researchers have developed sophisticated procedures to build and validate multi-item scales that measure latent constructs. The vast majority of IS studies uses classical test theory (CTT), but this approach suffers from three major theoretical shortcomings: (1) it assumes a linear relationship between the latent variable and observed scores, which rarely represents the empirical reality of behavioral constructs; (2) the true score can either not be estimated d

Abstract:
Purpose: The five point Deauville (D) scale is widely used to assess interim PET metabolic response to chemotherapy in Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) patients. An International Validation Study reported good concordance among reviewers in ABVD treated advanced stage HL patients for the binary discrimination between score D1,2,3 and score D4,5. Inter-reader reliability of the whole scale is not well characterised. Methods: Five international expert readers scored 100 interim PET/CT scans from paediatric HL patients. Scans were acquired in 51 European hospitals after two courses of OEPA chemotherapy (acc

Abstract:
The problem with which this study is concerned is articulating all possible CT3 and KR21 reliability measures for every case of a 5x5 binary matrix (32,996,500 possible matrices). The study has three purposes. The first purpose is to calculate CT3 for every matrix and compare the results to the proposed optimum range of .3 to .5. The second purpose is to compare the results from the calculation of KR21 and CT3 reliability measures. The third purpose is to calculate CT3 and KR21 on every strand of a class test whose item set has been reduced using the difficulty strata identified by Order Analy
