Full textThe purpose of this work was to determine the trunk muscular abilities from isokinetic measurements and to study the interest of introducing this kind of evaluation in the exercise therapy program of the centre de l’Arche. Torque-velocity and power-velocity relationships of trunk muscles are linear and parabolic, respectively, for healthy subjects and low back pain patients. Pmax is the only significantly different parameter between healthy and low back pain subjects whatever the considered muscular group. Although the exercise therapy program is effective for the flexor muscles, the third study showed that the trunk extensor muscle strength of low back pain patients remained significantly different at the release time. This introduces the perspective of proposing a training program focusing on trunk extensor strength on the one hand and on trunk flexor velocity on the other hand

Full textThe main aim of this PhD thesis is to complete the diagnosis and the monitoring of chronic low back pain patients by analyzing their motor behaviors during different trunk movements and during gait initiation. Then, in order to take part in the optimization of the care proposed to this type of patients, three studies are then conducted.Study 1 shows that, in addition to a physical deconditioning, chronic low back pain patients exhibit a motor deconditioning when asked to move there trunk as fast as possible. In Study 2, short-term and long-term monitorings following a functional restoration program (end of the program, 3 months, 6 months and 1 year) show a preservation of this motor deconditioning in chronic low back pain patients, despite improvements in physical abilities (flexibility, strength, endurance). Study 3 highlights that chronic low back pain affects the motor control during gait initiation and, as observed in Study 2, this motor deconditioning is preserved following functional restoration program. In conclusion, this PhD thesis shows that the resolution of the growing problem of chronic low back pain cannot be reached by only resolving the physical deconditioning but, also, by resolving the motor deconditioning detected within this research work. The reduction or annihilation of this motor deconditioning would allow better long-term results, promoting the return of patients to active life

Full textIn this thesis, we study some methods for restoring the original image from an image degraded by additive noise and blurring. It’s composed of 4 chapters. Chapter 1 concerns the recovery of a motion-blurred image. We propose a probabilistic method for the estimation of motion parameters based on the geometrical characteristic of the Fourier spectrum. In fact, the Fourier spectrum of the blurred image is the product of that of the original image with a sinus cardinal function. By the Helmholtz principle, we first detect the maximum meaningful parallel alignments in the frequency domain; by an adapted k-means cluster algorithm, we then identify the direction and the extent of the blur. In Chapter 2, we study a general choice of regularization functional which is proposed by Kang and Katsaggelos (1995). Their method was proved very effective in the practice, but its mathematical justification was not satisfactory. We give a new and valid proof, establish similar results for some non-linear cases, and give a rigorous analysis for convergence of the algorithm as well. In Chapter 3, we introduce a new iterative regularization algorithm. A non-local adaptive regularization function is used instead of a global regularization parameter, and a local regularization operator determined by the orientation of pixels is employed in non-homogeneous regions. In Chapter 4, we study the image denoising method by non-local means, recently introduced by A. Buades,B. Coll and J. M. Morel (2005). By probabilistic calculations, we establish a consistence theorem and show the error between the estimator and the original image
