The feasibility of electroless Ni-plating was explored in order to solve the problem of the restoration of the parts of aircraft made of high strenth steel. The flow and criterion of the restoration technology were were preliminarily investigated. We have measured the hardness, adhesion strength and antiwear performance of the coating. The results show that the electroless Ni-plating process for restoring the scuffed surface of aircraft parts made of high strenth steel has the advantages of simple procedure, easy operationg, and low cost. Abstract Characterization of hydrogen, in terms of concentration and location, has been the key problem in its removal from cadmium plated parts. It is believed that most of the hydrogen evolved during electroplating diffuses into the metal (steel) substrate and remains absorbed. However, it has been determined that, of all the hydrogen that is co-deposited during plating, only a small amount remains in the steel. Thus, a study has been made to determine the concentration profile of this hydrogen across the cadmium/steel interface.

Abstract A significant group of steel-making process parts is exposed to high contact pressure, shock abrasive wear and elevated temperature. High productivity repair techniques are necessary because of the large size of the parts. Analysis of coating metallographic investigations, wear and corrosion test results, full-scale tests shows that restoration of base share of these parts is possible by High Velocity Oxygen Fuel / High Velocity Air Fuel (HVOF/HVAF) process. Comparison of manufacture's data has showed that HVAF excels HVOF alternatives noticeably at productivity. At the same time prod

Abstract:
In the past 20 years, much research has been conducted into buckling and collapse of pipelines under external pressure, bending or tension and combinations. Also many finite element analyses have been performed into the behavior of pipelines under these loads. The available test results show considerable scatter, which is considered to be caused by variations in the stress-strain relationship, the anisotropy of the steel, the Bauschinger effect, the geometrical deviations, the residual stresses, the test conditions, etc. The manufacturing method (seamless, UO, UOE) has a considerable influence

The main goal of the proposed research was to continue the mutual investigations into the molecular basis of CMS and male fertility restoration [MRF], with the ultimate goal of understanding these phenomena in higher plants. The experiments focused on: (1) dissecting apart the complex CMS - specific mitochondrial S-Pcf locus, in order to distinguish its essential parts which cause sterility from other parts and study its molecular evolution. (2) Studying the expression of the various regions of the S-Pcf locus in fertile and sterile lines and comparing the structure and ultrastructure of steri

1 Introduction 1.1 The urgency of industrial decarbonization The last few years have seen several of the world’s largest carbon dioxide-emitting countries and leading heavy industry companies committing to mid-century net-zero targets (Buckley 2021; Denyer and Kashiwagi 2020; McCurry 2020; Myers 2020). Consequently, the discussion on economy-wide transition to net-zero is accelerating, with focus shifting from “if” to “when” and “how”, even for heavy industry sectors like steel, cement and chemicals. This makes it increasingly urgent to analyse not just whether it is technologically feasible t

Abstract:
The prospects offered by hydrogen as part of the energy transition and the decarbonization of the energy system are major topical issues. Although sources of natural hydrogen have been identified in various parts of the world, it is not possible to estimate at this time the potential of these sources, nor to assess their exploitation capacities without further exploration. Thus, hydrogen is not a primary energy source but should only be considered as an energy carrier. Most of this hydrogen, produced today from fossil resources mainly for industrial usage (including oil refining and ammonia sy

TESTING OF ADDITIVELY MANUFACTURED STAINLESS STEEL MATERIAL AND CROSS-SECTIONS. The Hong Kong Institute of Steel Construction, 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.18057/icass2020.p.175.

Powder bed fusion (PBF) additive manufacturing has the potential for significant impact on the construction industry due to its ability to produce complex and free-form components with high-precision. However, the size of components is limited by the build envelope of PBF machines. Laser welding offers a means of joining small individual PBF parts together to create larger-scale parts. This paper investigates the microstructure and material properties of stainless steel coupons with and without laser-welded joints, in conjunction with the structural performance of stainless steel circular holl

Abstract:
The low-rise cold-formed thin-walled steel buildings have good seismic performance, and their lateral force resistance is generally provided by the pull-out parts, the wall skeleton support system, and the skin effect between the wall skeleton and the wall. However, the current cold-formed thin-walled steel residential system is difficult to meet the seismic requirements of multi-storey cold-formed thin-walled steel buildings in high intensity areas. In this paper, the thin steel brace and light steel skeleton are combined to form a wall skeleton with a new support system with "truss structure

STUDY ON MICROMECHANICAL FRACTURE MODELS OF STRUCTURAL STEEL AND ITS WELDS. The Hong Kong Institute of Steel Construction, 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.18057/ijasc.2021.17.2.2.

Abstract:
Steel structures have been widely used in constructions due to their advantages of lightweight, high strength, short construction time and high recycling and reuse potential. Fracture failure in steel structures should be prevented to avoid collapse of the whole structures. Micromechanical fracture models can capture the fracture initiation mechanisms and therefore can be used to predict ductile fractures in steel. Twelve smooth round bars were carried out to obtain the material properties and 36 notched round bars were tested to calibrate the parameters of stress modified critical strain (SMC

Abstract:
Lattice bracing, commonly used in steel construction systems, is vulnerable to damage and failure when subjected to horizontal seismic pressure. To identify damage, manual examination is the conventional method applied. However, this approach is time-consuming and typically unable to detect damage in its early stage. Determining the exact location of damage has been problematic for researchers. Nevertheless, detecting the failure of lateral supports in various parts of a structure using time–frequency analysis and deep learning methods, such as convolutional neural networks, is possible. Abstract:
The extended stiffened endplate (8ES) connection is broadly used in the seismic load-resisting parts of steel structures. This connection is prequalified based on the AISC 358 standard, especially for seismic regions. To study this connection’s behaviors, in the event of accidental loss of a column, the finite element model results were verified against the available experimental data. A parametric study using the finite element method was then carried out to investigate these numerical models’ maximum capacity and effective parameters' effect on their maximum capacity in a column loss scenari
