Distal occlusion of the femoral canal in total hip arthroplasty is important for cement pressurisation. Failure to adequately restrict cement may result in earlier prosthetic loosening and a longer column of distal cement which may make revision surgery more difficult. Abstract:
Influence of semi-cone angles on the performance of the non-recessed hybrid/hydrostatic hole-entry conical journal bearing compensated with orifice restrictor has been carried out analytically. The analysis comprises two rows of symmetric hole-entry contour in the circumferential direction of hybrid/hydrostatic conical journal bearing. An orifice restrictor is used in the hole-entry contour to allow the restricted flow in the clearance space of a journal and bearing. Well-known finite element method and Newton–Raphson method for restrictor have been used to solve the Reynolds equation, governi

In fluid hydrostatic closed-type slideways systems, restrictor will take an important role of improving the performance of machine tools. Generally there are four types of restrictors to be utilized, capillary type, orifice type, slot type, and dynamic feedback type. The general oil film stiffness model of different types of restrictors was constructed and the characteristics of different types of restrictors are analyzed and compared. The analysis results demonstrated that the stiffness of restrictors depend on the geometry and structure parameters, and according to the analysis results the a

The aim of this prospective and randomised study was to test the ability of two different femoral plugs to seal off the femoral canal to prevent cement leakage, displacement of the restrictor and early aseptic loosening. Seventy patients, 35 in each of two groups, were included. There were 31 men and 39 women. The average age was 70 years; the follow-up was two years. In group 1 (the Exeter plug) there were four cases with cement leakage and in group 2 there were three (the DePuy plug). There were four cases with failures in group 1, due to technical failure peroperatively, and none in group 2

The determination of flow rate and fluid resistance for membrane-type restrictors is modified in this paper, and it can be more accurate and confident from the measurements in experiments. Three coupled equations including Reynolds equation, membrane deformation equation of large axisymmetric deflection and flow rate equation have been used to establish the mathematical model of membrane-type restrictor and solved simultaneously. Several cases are simulated by the traditional method and the modified numerical method, and the simulation results are compared with experimental data for flow rates

Abstract The current study is a semi-analytical analysis of the vibratory behaviour of a rigid vertical rotor, supported by a new hydrostatic squeeze film damper (HSFD), consisting of four hydrostatic pads fed through four single-action membrane-type variable-flow restrictors. The Reynolds equation based on the Newtonian theory of lubrication is used and then adapted to our work, which is solved semi-analytically. Aims The main objective of this study is to analyze the penetration of bone cement in four different full cementation techniques of the tibial tray. Methods In order to determine the best tibial tray cementation technique, we applied cement to 40 cryopreserved donor tibiae by four different techniques: 1) double-layer cementation of the tibial component and tibial bone with bone restrictor; 2) metallic cementation of the tibial component without bone restrictor; 3) bone cementation of the tibia with bone restrictor; and 4) superficial bone cementation of the tibia and metallic keel cementation

These parameters include restriction parameter, spool displacement parameter, and spring preload. The flow rates, inlet pressures, and outlet pressures are measured to be utilized for parameter identification of single-action cylindrical spool-type restrictors by using experimental equipment. This equipment-like an open-type planar hydrostatic bearing supports a worktable for changing recess pressure by changing apply load. Then, design parameters can

The benefit of using a cement restrictor to achieve cement pressurization during total hip arthroplasty is well established. An absorbable cement restrictor design has been developed with the use of a finite element model. The non-linear axisymmetric model was used to optimize specific parameters so as to perform within acceptable limits when tested over a specified range of medullary canal sizes. The results achieved from a hybrid experimental/analytical design methodology allowed for a shorter development cycle for the initial size and each additional size in the design family thereafter. Th
