Since 2016, Tuku (, outdated fashion) style has emerged in Chinese social media and the manifestation of it varies. On the basis of a case study on fashion brand, the aim of thesis was to explore and analysis Tuku style with the main focus on Tuku styles characters and their representation, including the origins and connotation of it. This chapter details the interplay of nostalgia, retro, and trauma in Riga, which became a favored production site for Soviet film and television projects set. Moreover, televisual events, such as the New Wave competition, take up Soviet legacies of representation of Latvia in contrasting manners. The music festival and the duel of documentary films illustrate the effects of Russian soft power in Latvia. The chapter also explores the notion of history, memory war, and entanglement present in the clash between Nazism, Baltic Style, and The Soviet Story. Meanwhile, the social identity of bordered children of Soviet occupiers constitutes the messy remainder that cannot be assimilated into the intact yet incompatible constructions of collective identity endorsed by either film.

Completed in 1992, Oriole Park at Camden Yards (OPCY) became the key driver for the development of retro ballparks in the United States, influencing architects to incorporate or to theme constructed heritage markers in the designs of new baseball stadia. Although the retro style of new ball parks has faded over the last decade, OPCY still remains an important feature of Baltimore’s Inner Harbour redevelopment. However, as the faux heritage properties of the park begin to age naturally, the future of OPCY is uncertain. Therefore, this chapter explores the three ages of OPCY: the first being the birth of the venue as a popular visitor attraction during the 1990s; its second age, as one of several retro ballparks in the United States, its uniqueness fading, along with a drop in visitor numbers; to its third age, as a bona fide historic venue whose future is dependent upon its perceived value in both economic and cultural terms.

This chapter examines the links between trash aesthetics, secondhand dress, and pop iconography, focusing on the myths and dismissals of the short-lived but massively popular music and fashion fad grunge. Whether dubbed retro, kitsch, camp, or trash, borrowing from the ideas and images of the past was an intrinsic part of the postmodern artistic landscape, and debates as to the worth of such reflexive borrowing raged. In the nineties, grunge style was often dismissed as an adolescent form of slumming—perhaps as a reaction to the profligancy of the Reagan years. But viewing grunge styles as simply reactive loses the social meaning embodied in the specific ironic posturing of nineties dress and music, views that preserved and sustained foregoing models of creativity and style at least as much as they upset them. Grunge was not just "the way we dress when we have no money," as designer Jean-Paul Gaultier sniffed disdainfully, but an elaboration on what secondhand aficionados had cultivated for almost a century.

Abstract Moogmusic.com offered the classic Moog synths—Bob’s business seemed to be back. But the website was from an imposter, Don Martin. Bob had to get in line to apply for his own name again. To establish his authenticity, he launched the “Moog Signature Series” Etherwave theremins. Big Briar produced the Ethervox MIDI theremin, and the “moogerfooger” effects pedals. Analog synths were back in style thanks to retro groups like the Moog Cookbook with Brian Kehew and Roger Manning, but Bob struggled to deliver his new synth, the Voyager. On the side he designed the virtual synth for the Van Koevering Interactive Piano. Running out of money, his Polar Music Prize of $100,000 was a temporary buffer. Don Martin declared bankruptcy and Bob got his trademark back, but Big Briar was hemorrhaging money and the Voyager wasn’t ready. Stress led him to a men’s retreat, “Spirit in Flight,” and psychological therapy.

Abstract:
A central difficulty of building a curriculum around current popular music styles is the rapid evolution of those styles. In this chapter, we give strategies for maintaining a music technology program’s cultural relevance over longer time spans, without rewriting every lesson plan every year. Rather than trying to respond to every new development in popular culture, we propose that teachers follow the hip-hop ethos of maintaining freshness. And rather than chasing novelty, we suggest that teachers look for common threads across popular styles and trends, and teach to those commonalities. We also propose identifying out-of-date styles that have become appealingly retro, since these can become a long-lasting feature of the curriculum without losing freshness. We also give strategies for maintaining cultural continuity as student cohorts graduate, and how the same set of technical skills can underlie a wide variety of genre-based projects. Finally, we address broader problems like adapting to new teaching formats and the ramifications of committing to a software platform.

The Clear Water Towing Tank (CWTT) at the Institute for Marine Dynamics (IMD) measures 200 m long x 12 m wide x 7 m deep with a usable run length of approximately 150 meters. The tank is equipped with an electrically driven (manned) towing carriage capable of speeds up to 10 mis and a hydraulically operated, computer controlled dual-flap wavemaker which can generate regular waves of up to 1.0 min height or irregular waves with significant wave heights of up to 0,3 meters.
