Abstract:
Object The aim of this study was to identify patients likely to develop CSF leaks after vestibular schwannoma surgery using a retrospective analysis for the identification of risk factors. Methods Between January 2001 and December 2006, 420 patients underwent retrosigmoidal microsurgical tumor removal in a standardized procedure. Of these 420 patients, 363 underwent treatment for the first time, and 27 suffered from recurrent tumors. Twenty-six patients had bilateral tumors due to neurofibromatosis Type 2, and 4 patients had previously undergone radiosurgical treatment. An analysis was perform

Abstract:
✓ Twenty-five meningiomas located at the tentorial notch were surgically treated between 1978 and 1993 at the Neurosurgical Department of Nordstadt Hospital in Hannover, Germany. Nineteen meningiomas were classified as originating from the lateral tentorial incisura (Group I) and six were from the posteromedial tentorial incisura (Group II). Clinically, the most common symptom was trigeminal neuralgia, followed by headache. Neuroradiologically, 64% of the meningiomas were larger than 30 × 30 mm. Further evaluation revealed signs of brainstem compression in 88% of the patients. Radical surgical

Abstract:
During vestibular schwannoma surgery a large proportion of patients will lose their hearing. While there have been several papers investigating the mechanism behind this loss of auditory function, the exact pathophysiological mechanisms remain relatively elusive. The present study aimed to document the patterns of electrophysiological auditory responses during retrosigmoid vestibular schwannoma surgery. In particular, we aimed to determine whether the site of auditory impairment in individual cases was predominantly cochlea or neural. Auditory function was monitored intraoperatively in two
