In this paper we investigate changes in the labor market incorporation (i.e., labor force status, class of worker, and earnings) of return migrants from the United States to Mexico between 1990 and 2010. We argue that changing period conditions, particularly the 2007 economic recession and enhanced immigration enforcement policies dating back to the mid-1990s, have altered both the volume and nature of return flows affecting the migration-development connection. Using data from the 1990, 2000, and 2010 Mexican Censuses, we compare the labor market position of return migrants to nonmigrants and

This paper aims to study the trends of labor migration (voluntary and forced) from Russia to Tajikistan and the peculiarities of the reintegration of returning migrants into Tajik society. Labor migration is the main driver of economic growth for Tajikistan and the most effective tool in the national fight against poverty. However, many migrants from Tajikistan do not have a formally documented status in Russia, which makes their predicament extremely difficult and vulnerable. Abstract:
The migration of middle and senior medical staff, which includes nurses and technicians, is an important topic because we are thinking about the sustainability and stability of the health system. Motivational factors of job satisfaction, working environment and living standards, if they result in dissatisfaction as a consequence of not meeting them, are key factors in making migration decisions. This work aims to confirm the factors of migration of nurses and technicians through a survey questionnaire. The interviewees cited personal challenges as the main reasons for outward migration sin

The labour migration in Europe is a phenomenon with multiple effects, both positive and negative. Money sent by emigrants to their families is increasing their quality of life and has positive effects on the family relations; therefore it can be identified an increasing interest in the literature in studying such aspects. The purpose of the paper is to conduct a comparative analysis of the migrants’ propensity to sending money to the origin country. The study is based on data coming from the National Immigrant Survey of Spain (in Spanish: Encuesta Nacional de Inmigrantes – 2007).

The Republic of Moldova, including the Transnistrian region, has become one stop on the massive flow of displaced Ukrainians to the west. Many of them decided to settle in the region. It is relevant to understand how displaced Ukrainians settle in the region and which problems they face. Among Ukrainian migrants in Transnistria, women predominate (about 85%). About 50% of refugees are between 30 and 50 years old. The presence of displaced Ukrainians in Transnistria has a certain impact on the demographic situation in the region, but statistical accounting of this impact remains a problem. The

Bangladesh is a significant labor-sending country, with about 7.8 million Bangladeshis working abroad. Major destinations for migrant workers are the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. Female migrants represent 12 percent of the migration flow, with a majority engaged as domestic workers. Migration to GCC countries is characterized by short-term temporary migration, migration of low- and semi-skilled workers, laborers with low literacy level, debt-financed migration, and often migration through unofficial channels. The overseas labor recruitment industry often leaves migrants susceptibl

This report shares findings from qualitative research on the impacts of Covid-19 on Cambodian migrant workers in four sites along the Cambodia-Thai border. Government restrictions in Thailand and the border closure in February 2020 led to job losses and reduced working hours, and ultimately to an increase in the rate of return migration. Return migrants were forced to use informal points of entry with the facilitation of informal brokers, facing increased costs and risks and, in the process, becoming undocumented. This report shows an unequal access to health services between documented and un

More than a quarter of all overseas Indians resided in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries in 2020. Migration to Gulf countries is dominated by unskilled and semi-skilled workers who work on a contract basis and who must return home once their contract expires. The Indian government has introduced measures to promote safe overseas migration for work, but labor exploitations in the India-GCC migration corridors are widely documented. Abstract:
In a span of six years, the proportion of Venezuelans in Peru has surged nearly fourfold, rising from virtually zero to over 4% of the population. This study delves into the dynamics of medium- and long-term labor market integration in Peru, combining data from the Venezuelan Population Residing in Peru Survey and the Peruvian National Household Survey. Our findings reveal that Venezuelan workers experience low returns on foreign postsecondary education and there is minimal relation between foreign work experience and monthly income. Importantly, these outcomes remain consistent irrespective o

Urban migrants in Latin America and the Caribbean generally perform well in destination labor markets. However, female migrants and those displaced by violence or extreme weather events tend to face worse outcomes. Recent academic literature suggests little to no average impact of urban migration on non-migrant residents labor market outcomes, though effects can vary across different workforce segments.
