Abstract:
This aim of this study was to analyze serve and return statistics in elite padel players regarding courtside and gender. The sample contained 668 serves and 600 returns of serves from 14 matches (7 male and 7 female) of the 2019 Masters Finals World Padel Tour. Variables pertaining to serve (number, direction, court side and effectiveness), return of serve (direction, height, stroke type and effectiveness) and point outcome were registered through systematic observation. The main results showed that the serving pair had an advantage in rallies, under 8 shots in women and under 12 shots in men. Statistical differences according to gender and court side were found. Female players execute more backhand and cross-court returns and use more lobs than men. On the right court, serves are more frequently aimed at the “T” and more down the line returns are executed when compared to the left side. Such knowledge could be useful to develop appropriate game strategies and to design specific training exercises based on actual competition context.

Abstract:
Abstract High performance modern tennis is characterised by high dynamism, speed in thinking and action, precision and high technical and tactical skills. In this study, we used direct observation and statistical recording of nine matches during two competition years in the tennis players Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Andre Agassi. In these tennis players, we studied mainly the return of serve, one of the most important shots in tennis, together with serve, as first shots in a point. We have chosen the three tennis players because they are the best example of return of serve as shown by the matches recorded and interpreted. The study we have carried out shows that return of serve makes Agassi a winner in most matches. The high percentage in Federer’s serves makes his adversaries have a lower percentage in return of serve, which prevents them to win against his serve. High percentage in return of serve results in more points on the adversary’s serve and an opportunity to start the offensive point. After comparing the three tennis players mentioned above, we can see that the highest percentage of points won on return of serve belongs to Agassi, which ranks him among the best return of serve tennis players in the world. The tennis player with the highest percentage in return of service is the one who wins the match, which shows, once again, the importance of the return of serve. Return of serve can be a strong counter-attack weapon if used at its highest level.

Abstract:
Male and female players may have different game characteristics and performance. The first two shots of a rally in badminton have tactical importance. The aim of this study is to identify players' actions and behaviors and to assess differences in serve and return between the genders on the international level. We observed 15 male and 15 female matches from top international badminton tournaments. A notational analysis was used while observing the serve type, return type and the point winner. Male players hit the backhand short serve in 91 % of points and female players started the point mostly with the forehand long serve (58 %). Both genders won 50 % of the serving points. The distribution of return type is quite equal among the drop, lob, clear, smash and net shots in female matches. While returning a short serve, the lob was 4-5 % less efficient than a net shot in both genders. Women can try to use backhand short serve more often as we found the highest efficiency of all the serve types.

Abstract:
There are n customers that need to be served by m parallel servers (n≥m). Customer i will only wait in queue for an exponentially distributed time with rate λi before departing the system. The service time on server j is exponentially distributed with rate μj for all customers, and upon completion of service of customer i a positive reward ri is earned. The non-preemptive problem is to choose, after each service completion, which currently in queue customer to serve next. The preemptive problem is to decide when to preempt a service, and to choose, after each service completion or preemption, which currently in queue customer to serve next. The objective of both problems is to maximize the expected total return. We give conditions under which a list policy is optimal for both problems.

Abstract:
Tennis is an everchanging sport. New data from tennis analyst Craig O'Shannessy show that a vast majority of points are short, i.e. points decided in four or fewer shots. The player who wins most of them also tends to be the winner. The purpose of this paper is to examine the WTA tournament Sydney International 2018 to see if the same pattern occurs there and if that is the case investigate if there is any difference between how different groups are performing. A few examples of groups are match-winners against losers and seeded against unseeded players. It turns out that the lengths of the points were almost identical to O'Shannessy’s results and they influenced the matches outcome. Furthermore, match winners performed better in most categories, for example, the ratio of serves and returns in play and won. Regarding serve+1 they were able to keep an even level on both forehand and backhand side, while the losing players had some problems with their backhands. With that said, there were no clear differences in serve and return patterns, apart from second serves to the deuce court. From the results, it seems like the quality of the shots is more important than where they are landing.

This Master s Thesis proposes the application of Data Envelopment Analysis DEA to evaluate the performance of sales teams, based on a study of their coverage areas. Data was collected from the company contracted to distribute the products in the state of Cear?. Analyses of thirteen sales coverage areas were performed considering first the output-oriented constant return to scale method (CCR-O), then this method with assurance region (AR-O-C) and finally the method of variable returns to scale with assurance region (AR-O-V). The method used in the first approach is shown to be inappropriate for this study, since it inconveniently generates zero-valued weights, allowing that an area under evaluation obtain the maximal score by not producing. Using weight restrictions, through the assurance region methods AR-O-C and AR-O-V, decreasing returns to scale are identified, meaning that the improvement in performance is not proportional to the size of the areas being analyzed. Observing data generated by the analysis, a study is carried out, aiming to design improvement goals for the inefficient areas. Complementing this study, GDP data for each area was compared with scores obtained using AR-O-V analysis. The results presented in this work show that DEA is a useful methodology for assessing sales team performance and that it may contribute to improvements on the quality of the management process.

Purpose: This study aims to explore the serve advantages of top women players in single serve game and major return performance of receive in the receive game. Methods: This study takes 15 competitions of women singles from Round 16 to finals in Australian Open 2014 as scope and analyzes the major score methods and return methods of top women players in the receive game with descriptive statistics and pivot table analysis. Results: 1.The average first and second serve scoring rate of top women players in the serve game are 64% and 87% respectively. Those of the serve winning rate are 62% and 51%. The major scoring performance is serve advantage. 2.In the receive game, the average first and the second receive scoring rate is 78% and 88% separately. Those of the receive winning rate are 38% and 49% with the defense and standoff as major return methods. 3.When being broken in the serve game, the first and the second serve scoring rate reduces to 60% and 82% respectively. The first serve winning rate reduces to 35% and that of the second reduces to 26 which are related to reduction of serve advantage scoring. 4.When break successfully in the receive game, the first and the second receive scoring rate is 86% and 94% respectively. The first receive winning rate is 65% and the second receive winning rate is 74% which are related to the increase of offensive return. Conclusions: 1.The major scoring method of top women players is serve advantage in the serve game. The first serve scoring rate, winning rate and serve advantage reach over 60%. However, the first serve scoring rate reduces over 60% below and the second serve scoring rate reduces over 80% below. The first serve winning rate reduces over 40% and the second serve winning rate reduces over 30%. In this way, they are easy to be broken. 2.In the receive game, the major return methods are defense and standoff, but the reasons to break successfully are caused by increase of offensive return. When break successfully, only by reaching over 40% in the second serve winning rate with offensive return can the players have chance to break.

Abstract This chapter provides an overview of the practical methodologies that can be used to identify and characterize the tandem repeats that are most frequently used as genetic markers in nematodes (including plant-parasitic and entomopathogenic nematodes), namely satellite DNA and microsatellites. The objective is not to provide turnkey protocols, but rather to return to the main principles that govern these protocols. Case studies on nematodes will serve to illustrate the point. In that respect, two well-defined situations are to be considered, depending on whether genomic resources for the species under investigation are available or not.

Abstract:
AbstractInnovation is at its best when we are thrusted into an emergency situation that tests protocols and established norms. In this chapter, authors reflect on the journey of a team of instructional designers in an online learning design unit of a large mid-western university amidst COVID-19. With the influx of a multitude of courses to be transitioned to the online platform, authors describe challenges faced by their unit, coping mechanisms, and lessons learned during this phase. They describe inclusive design thinking and uninterrupted practice in return to robust instructional design models, such as Understanding by Design and Universal Design for Learning. The chapter concludes with examples of tried and tested internal tools and an adaptive workflow catering to a shortened development timeline. These practices and reflections serve as a guiding light as the global world navigates online learning to meet increasing demands of new-age digital accessibility and online course design considerations in higher education beyond COVID-19.

Abstract:
The chapter on transnational identities, pilgrimages, and return migrations explains the concept and importance of the term transnationalism and the new socioeconomic dynamics that take place between immigrants to the United States and the flow of cultural exchange and monetary remittances to the relatives in the country of origin. It expands on how the use of new communication technologies and more accessible air transportation have contributed to globalization and how this globalization has changed the immigrant experience, leading to a process of interculturation. It expands on the particular immigrant experience of Puerto Ricans and also discusses the dynamics of those whose stay behind in the country of origin. This chapter explains the psychodynamic meaning of nostalgia and discusses the reasons and motivations that generate return migrations to the country of origin. It also discusses the socioeconomic and psychodynamic issues of those who chose to return and how the transfer of newly acquired skills and knowledge impacts the country of origin, as well as the psychodynamic and socioeconomic issues that result in the encounter between those who chose to stay and those who return. This chapter also discusses the meaning of pilgrimages to the lands, not of the immigrants’ birth, of their ancestral family histories and how these pilgrimages serve as intrapsychic organizers that lead to the integration and enrichment of the person’s cultural identity and may promote personal growth. The topics are explained and illustrated with various case studies.

Abstract:
Heritage appreciation has been easily neglected and been taken advantage of over the years despite its invisible primary role in the tourism industry. The value of heritage is invaluable and its loss is an irreversible loss to the nation as a whole. Heritage appreciation could play an important role in rural development, with mostly positive impact to the local and economy as the whole. Tourism has many potential benefits for rural areas because it can secure more jobs for non-metro communities, especially for those that are economically underdeveloped. Mainly because jobs in the tourist industry often do not require advanced training, local residents with few skills can readily work as food servers, retail clerks and hospitality workers. Tourism also not only offers business opportunities to local residents, but it can serve as an opportunity for tourists to return later to retire or start a business locally. Tourism can also enhance local quality life where tourism can serve as an important course of tax revenues for governments.

Abstract:
This chapter explores the role of memory in Ghada Karmi’s Return: A Palestinian Memoir (2015). Building on theorizations of exile and memory, alongside Mikhail Bakhtin’s theoretical concept of the chronotope, this chapter assesses how memories conceive of a particular place in time. The chapter suggests that Karmi’s memories of Palestine function as the main component of her incoherent and transient national experience, and it explores the potential for resistant acts contained within her narrative of personal memory. Visiting Palestine for the first time since her childhood, Karmi ponders the power of memory, and explores how its articulation across time and space provides opportunities to resist Palestine’s political and historical negation. The chapter contends that, within her memoir, Karmi illustrates how (exilic) Palestinian writing can serve as a ‘custodian’ of Palestinian national history.

Abstract:
Waste to Energy facilities serve their communities in a number of important ways. Our industry does a terrific job reducing volumes that would have otherwise been destined for landfills. Energy recovery is an important and positive byproduct of that process but not the only one. Beyond these two obvious attributes you seldom hear of anything else. This is unfortunate because there are significant social, environmental, and economic benefits associated with the technology. Industry “silence” can be attributed to an inability to describe those benefits in ways people understand or see a dollar value in. In other words, we have a tough time measuring the value of “Green.” This paper describes a framework through which we can make the case for sustainable benefits associated with Waste to Energy. It begins with discussion of why it is important to seek a connection with the “triple bottom line” including the social, environmental, and economic attributes of a given program/project/facility. It sheds light on the need to think beyond traditional life cycle cost analysis techniques that focus on direct cash benefits. It describes a process through which noncash and external costs and benefits can be calculated and presented in monetary terms, referred to as the Sustainable Return on Investment or SROI (direct cash + noncash + external costs and benefits = SROI). This paper should help readers make an aggressive case to reveal the FULL VALUE of Waste to Energy across the sustainability triple bottom line.

Abstract:
Traditionally, large slow speed integral gas engines were used in Pipeline applications. Today, the need exists for smaller high-speed units with a lower total installed cost and quicker return on investments. Utilizing well over 100 years of gas compressor experience, Dresser-Rand has developed a new Big Oilfield Separable (BOS) frame and Dresser-Rand Advanced Reciprocating Technology (DART) cylinder line-up to serve the high-speed engine and motor driven Pipeline/Injection markets. By incorporating a longer stroke capability, this compressor also serves the electric motor driven Process Gas markets. First, this paper will identify the complete design, development, and test verification of the frame and running gear. Second, this paper will then identify the complete design, development, and performance verification of the DART cylinder. Together, the BOS frame and DART cylinders provide an economical replacement to the older slow speed integral gas engines that are utilized in Pipeline applications.

Abstract:
The task of minimizing the downtime of a data center is becoming increasingly important due to the necessity of availability and maintaining the integrity of the data being handled by the data center. Consequently, a model used to predict the thermal response of a data center would be useful information in designing mechanisms to minimize the downtime during a failure or to serve as an alternative analysis method other than CFD. This paper will focus on a thermodynamic approach of predicting the thermal response of the data center space with the use of lumped system analysis. The model will be developed and validated using actual data from a chiller failure event in the CEETHERM Data Center Laboratory. Events in sequence are: (i) Chiller failure, (ii) Data center shutdown due to critical temperatures and (iii) Chiller restored. To illustrate, the data center section of interest consists of 10 racks of servers (maximum capacity of 24kW for each rack) with a total of 3360 nodes and is chilled using chilled water from the building chiller, through which the cooling resources are distributed using a rear door heat exchanger and a cooling room air conditioning unit (CRAC). The relevant and important data that was recorded in this failure are the: (1) Server inlet temperatures, (2) CPU temperatures, (3) CRAC supply and return air temperatures, (4) Chiller supply and return water temperature, (5) Chiller flow rate, (6) Data center space temperature and humidity, (7) Server power draw and (8) CRAC fan speeds.

In ASME 2012 International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition. American Society of Mechanical Engineers, 2012. http://dx.doi.org/10.1115/imece2012-88365.

Abstract:
Even though there have been several studies conducted by the industry on the use of different inlet devices for gas-liquid separation there have been limited laboratory and field evaluations on the use of external piping configurations as flow conditioning devices upstream of a separator inlet. The results of a systematic study of droplet deposition and coalescence in curved pipe and pipe fittings are reported in this paper. A facility has been designed consisting of two main test sections: a fixed horizontal straight pipe section and an interchangeable 180° return pipe section (or curved pipe section) of the same length. Both inlet and outlet to the 180° return are horizontal, but the plane of the 180° return pipe section can pivot about the axis of the inlet horizontal pipe to an angle as much as 10° downwards allowing downward flow in the return section. Various pipe fittings of different radius of curvature can be installed for comparison in the 180° return. Fittings evaluated in this study included: 180° pipe bend, 2 standard radius elbows (with radius of curvature of 1.5D), 2 long radius elbows (with radius of curvature of 6D), 2 target tee bend, and 2 cushion tee bend. Experiments have been carried out using water and air and varying gas velocities and liquid loadings. In order to compare the performance of geometries, Droplet Deposition Fractions (DDF) were measured in the horizontal straight pipe section and in the 180° return pipe section as a measure of coalescence efficiency. The results demonstrate that higher DDF occurs for curved fittings as compared to the straight pipe section. Two standard (short) radius elbows bend have approximately 10% DDF higher, whereas two long radius elbows along with 180° pipe bend perform better (by 15–20% DDF) than straight pipe. Additionally, no significant differences between DDF’s in three different inclination angles of a curved pipe were observed. It was found that the cushion tees and target tees can coalesce droplets at lower gas velocities but break up droplets at higher gas velocities. It can be concluded that 180° pipe bend or two 6D long radii elbows can serve as a droplet coalescer, a pair of cushion tees or target tee can also work as coalescer at low kinetic energy but as atomizers at high kinetic energy.

Abstract:
This paper describes preliminary design and analysis of “active cells” used for the construction of homogeneous actuated electromechanical composite structures made from many of these electromechanical active cells. Each cell consists of a simple rapid-prototyped outer shell containing both a contractile Nitinol element and a return spring, such that these tiny, self-contained contractile engineered cells can serve as the building blocks for larger articulated structures. Each cell occupies approximately 3.0 cm3 in volume. Design considerations are explored that will affect the packing of a number of cells in a mold with a highly elastic binding agent to constrain them. The structures made from these cells can be easily fabricated in a nearly arbitrary shape — by producing an appropriate mold to contain the cells — and can be highly redundant and robust to localized cell failures. The composite structure is actuated via the application of an electrical potential across each of the individual cells, causing the cells to activate through resistive heating. The material properties of the ensemble structure can be varied by changing the properties of the binding material and the return springs of the cells, thus enabling the design of a wide range of stiffness and damping properties.

Full text
Abstract:
Abstract Among the many applications of Coiled Tubing (CT) services, milling plugs and wellbore sand cleanout are two of the major applications. The transport of solids to the surface, as well as monitoring the return rates, are two sources of information which can have a significant impact on the execution of these jobs. Traditionally the flowback crew communicates this information to the CT control cab upon request. However, by utilizing an acoustic monitor and ultrasonic flowmeter, it can reduce the dependence on flowback operators and provide real-time solid measurement and return flow rate. The acoustic monitor is a passive, non-intrusive device that is designed to measure the acoustic noise induced into the pipe wall as solids impact the inside wall of the pipe. The ultrasonic flowmeter is a clamp-on device that is designed with two transducers that serve as both a transmitter and receiver. In order to prove the concept, five stages of trials were planned and executed. In stage one, CT was rigged into a 150m vertical test well. The equipment included CT mast unit, CT pump, choke manifold, and acoustic monitoring device. Several debris piles from previous milling operations were introduced to the test well, and a CT cleanout was performed. The acoustic monitor system measured the amount of solid to surface, and the results were evaluated. Solids retrieved were then compared to the initial debris piles and correlated to the data received by the acoustic monitor. On the 2nd stage, the acoustic monitoring device was utilized in actual milling operation. The 3rd stage was a yard trial of ultrasonic flowmeter using a CT pump and data acquisition system to evaluate the working envelope of this device, followed by a field trial, in stage 4, utilizing the flowmeter in actual milling operations. The final stage of this trial was planned and executed in milling operations on a five wells pad, utilizing the combined applications of acoustic monitoring (solid measurement) and ultrasonic flowmeter (return rate) devices. All five stages contributed to proof of concept for the applications of solid measurement and return flow rate devices. These trials were successfully planned, executed, and evaluated. The acquired data throughout the five stages of these trials were utilized during and post job operations as lessons learned to optimize the process for future applications. The real-time measurement of solids and flow rate monitoring, independent of flowback operators, enables the CT operator to make informed decisions throughout milling and cleanout operations. The real-time streaming of solids to surface and return flow rate enables the operator and service company’s Engineering team to evaluate and optimize the execution of milling and sand cleanout operations.

Abstract:
Abstract Two Auxiliary Boiler Feed Water Pump (ABFW) serve as a fluid supplier into the boiler to support the operation for steam system in Floating Storage and Offloading (FSO) Gagak Rimang. During FSO Gagak Rimang operation, steam system is produced through 2 unit boilers to run Cargo Oil Pump (COP) intermittently during lifting activity. In order to maximize boiler operation, the fluid has to be inside the envelope of design parameter specification. Therefore, the reliability of the ABFW pumps are very essential to ensure smooth and stable lifting operation. Historically, the performance of this ABFW pump was degraded due to vibration issue and capacity oversized resulted from changing boiler operating mode. This paper will explain how to improve pump reliability by solving the 2 factors mentioned above by redesigning the impeller which reduced pump vibrations and return the pump condition back into desired operating points.

Abstract:
Bad weather and rough seas contribute significantly to the risk to maritime transportation. This stresses the importance of taking severe sea state conditions adequately into account, with due treatment of the uncertainties involved, in ship design and operation. Hence, there is a need for appropriate stochastic models describing the variability of sea states. This paper presents a Bayesian hierarchical space-time stochastic model for significant wave height. The model has been fitted by data for an area in the North Atlantic ocean and aims at describing the temporal and spatial variability of significant wave height in this area. It could also serve as foundation for further extensions used for long-term prediction of significant wave height and future return periods of extreme significant wave heights. The model will be outlined in this paper, and the results will be discussed. Furthermore, a discussion of possible model extensions will be presented.

Micro-terrain and canopy feature extraction by breakline and differencing analysis of gridded elevation models : identifying terrain model discontinuities with application to off-road mobility modeling. Engineer Research and Development Center (U.S.), April 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.21079/11681/40185.

Full text
Abstract:
Elevation models derived from high-resolution airborne lidar scanners provide an added dimension for identification and extraction of micro-terrain features characterized by topographic discontinuities or breaklines. Gridded digital surface models created from first-return lidar pulses are often combined with lidar-derived bare-earth models to extract vegetation features by model differencing. However, vegetative canopy can also be extracted from the digital surface model alone through breakline analysis by taking advantage of the fine-scale changes in slope that are detectable in high-resolution elevation models of canopy. The identification and mapping of canopy cover and micro-terrain features in areas of sparse vegetation is demonstrated with an elevation model for a region of western Montana, using algorithms for breaklines, elevation differencing, slope, terrain ruggedness, and breakline gradient direction. These algorithms were created at the U.S. Army Engineer Research Center – Geospatial Research Laboratory (ERDC-GRL) and can be accessed through an in-house tool constructed in the ENVI/IDL environment. After breakline processing, products from these algorithms are brought into a Geographic Information System as analytical layers and applied to a mobility routing model, demonstrating the effect of breaklines as obstacles in the calculation of optimal, off-road routes. Elevation model breakline analysis can serve as significant added value to micro-terrain feature and canopy mapping, obstacle identification, and route planning.

Abstract:
The Mahabub Hossain Panel Data (MHPD) was initiated in 1988 and maintained by and named after the late Mahabub Hossain, a well-known agricultural and development economist who led a number of reputed organizations in Bangladesh (Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies and BRAC) and in the region (International Rice Research Institute). We portray the historical context, sampling evolution, survey structure and methodology, and academic and policy contributions of the MHPD with some lessons learned for the next step forward. The MHPD has tracked rural households for a period of over 3 decades (1988–2014) with five waves of household surveys covering over 2,800 households and has collected a wide range of information on household composition, schooling of household members, assets, cropping intensity and patterns including cost and return, employment and income, consumption, participation in different government and nongovernment programs. We reviewed several books and journal articles authored by Mahabub Hossain and related academic papers and documents and collated information on MHPD, including (i) mapping out information on past and ongoing panel or cross-sectional household survey data series in Bangladesh; (ii) undertaking the review of all past rounds of MHPD survey documents, such as survey implementation plans, questionnaires, codebooks, databases, and processed data; (iii) consulting relevant stakeholders, including the past implementers of the surveys and the users of the data as needed to validate documented information; (iv) taking stock of the contribution of MHPD to academic literature and policy development; and (v) drawing a number of lessons learned for future data collection and policy making. The report aims to (i) serve as a comprehensive reference document for scholars and policy makers who wish to understand MHPD for possible use in their research; and (ii) provide a comprehensive baseline from which we can consider ways to enhance MHPD further to continue contributing to understanding the economic and social issues of today and near future. By compiling all associated research work based on MHPD, we offer a historical landscape of Bangladesh’s social and economic development and a credible explanation for the Bangladesh development model for global comparison.

Abstract:
Bangladesh is a significant labor-sending country, with about 7.8 million Bangladeshis working abroad. Major destinations for migrant workers are the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. Female migrants represent 12 percent of the migration flow, with a majority engaged as domestic workers. Migration to GCC countries is characterized by short-term temporary migration, migration of low- and semi-skilled workers, laborers with low literacy level, debt-financed migration, and often migration through unofficial channels. The overseas labor recruitment industry often leaves migrants susceptible to human trafficking, forced labor, and modern slavery. Also, many migrants return empty-handed and with huge debt. The Population Council in partnership with the Global Fund to End Modern Slavery (GFEMS) undertook a study to better understand survivors’ and stakeholders’ perspectives on the kinds of policies, programs, and initiatives that could facilitate safer overseas labor migration for Bangladeshi migrant workers. A qualitative study was conducted with returned migrants in Faridpur and Munshiganjs, Bangladesh. These locations also served as an assessment of an intervention for economic and social reintegration. A stakeholder consultation provided an opportunity for participants to reflect on the study findings and brainstorm about research, program gaps, and recommendations.

From positions, attained by modern theoretical physics in understanding of the universe bases, the methodological and philosophical analysis of fundamental physical concepts and their formal and informal connections with the real economic measuring is carried out. Procedures for heterogeneous economic time determination, normalized economic coordinates and economic mass are offered, based on the analysis of time series, the concept of economic Plank's constant has been proposed. The theory has been approved on the real economic dynamic's time series, related to the cryptocurrencies market, the achieved results are open for discussion. Then, combined the empirical cross-correlation matrix with the random matrix theory, we mainly examine the statistical properties of cross-correlation coefficient, the evolution of average correlation coefficient, the distribution of eigenvalues and corresponding eigenvectors of the global cryptocurrency market using the daily returns of 15 cryptocurrencies price time series across the world from 2016 to 2018. The result indicated that the largest eigenvalue reflects a collective effect of the whole market, practically coincides with the dynamics of the mean value of the correlation coefficient and very sensitive to the crisis phenomena. It is shown that both the introduced economic mass and the largest eigenvalue of the matrix of correlations can serve as quantum indicator-predictors of crises in the market of cryptocurrencies.

Abstract:
The recent rise in voluntary turnover has sparked a renewed focus on attracting and retaining talent. In their attempts to stem the tide of the Great Resignation, organizations are augmenting traditional retention strategies – e.g., higher pay, enhanced benefits, more opportunities for career advancement etc. – with remote and hybrid work schedules brought about by the COVID pandemic. Given its inherent appeal to both employees and organizations, leadership development (LD) opportunities have long been believed to play a crucial role in helping to attract and retain employees. While the body of existing correlational research does point to a positive relationship between LD opportunities and retention, there is scant research that elucidates the mechanism(s) that may help to bridge the two. Guided by existing research, this paper examined Center for Creative Leadership’s large database of program evaluation data to uncover those potential mechanisms. We found preliminary support for three specific outcomes of leadership development that may serve as potential mediators linking LD with retention; they include enhanced self-efficacy, meaningful connections, and capacity to engage followers. We conclude with implications of these findings for future research as well as some caveats related to our investigation.

Abstract:
Polymer flooding is one of the most promising EOR methods (Smalley et al. 2018). It is well known and has been used successfully (Pye 1964; Standnes & Skjevrak 2014; Sheng et al. 2015). From a technical perspective we recommend that polymer flooding should be considered as a viable EOR method on the Norwegian Continental Shelf for the following reasons: 1. More oil can be produced with less water injected; this is particularly important for the NCS which are currently producing more water than oil 2. Polymers will increase the aerial sweep and improve the ultimate recovery, provided a proper injection strategy 3. Many polymer systems are available, and it should be possible to tailor their chemical composition to a wide range of reservoir conditions (temperature and salinity) 4. Polymer systems can be used to block water from short circuiting injection production wells 5. Polymer combined with low salinity injection water has many benefits: a lower polymer concentration can be used to reach target viscosity, less mechanical degradation, less adsorption, and a potential reduction in Sor due to a low salinity wettability effect. There are some hurdles when considering polymer flooding that needs to be considered: 1. Many polymer systems are not at the present considered as green chemicals; thus, reinjection of produced water is needed. However, results from polymer degradation studies in the IORCentre indicates that a. High molecular weight polymers are quickly degraded to low molecular weight. In case of accidental release to the ocean low molecular weight polymers are diluted and the lifetime of the spill might be quite short. According to Caulfield et al. (2002) HPAM is not toxic, and will not degrade to the more environmentally problematic acrylamide. b. In the DF report for environmental impact there are case studies using the DREAM model to predict the transport of chemical spills. This model is coupled with polymer (sun exposure) degradation data from the IORCentre to quantify the lifetime of polymer spills. This approach should be used for specific field cases to quantify the environmental risk factor. 2. Care must be taken to prepare the polymer solution offshore. Chokes and vales might be a challenge but can be mitigating according to the results from the large-scale testing done in the IORCentre (Stavland et al. 2021). None of the above-mentioned challenges are server enough to not consider polymer flooding. HPAM is neither toxic, nor bio-accumulable, or bio-persistent and the CO2 footprint from a polymer flood may be significantly less than a water flood (Dupuis et al. 2021). There are at least two contributing factors to this statement, which we will return in detail to in the next section i) during linear displacement polymer injection will produce more oil for the same amount of water injected, hence the lifetime of the field can be shortened ii) polymers increase the arial sweep reducing the need for wells.
