Jiménez, Hernández José Antonio. "Calidad editorial, difusión y visibilidad de las revistas científicas digitales de enfermería españolas." Doctoral thesis, Universidad de Murcia, 2015. http://hdl.handle.net/10803/336981.
Full textJustification: Nowadays, the scientific journals are the main media among the multiple formal and informal channels as in practically all the fields of science. The knowledge, description and analysis of the scientific journals of Spanish nursing may serve to discover in what condition of its scientific development and detect aspects that could be susceptible to improve the quality of these journals in order to achieve a better presence and international impact. Aim: The general aim of this thesis consists of the evaluation of the digital quality, editorial quality and its process, as well as the diffusion and visibility of the digital-scientific Spanish journals of nursing. Materials and Methods: The method that has been used is observational, retrospective and analytical, taking into account different models of evaluation of scientific journals. Mainly, this thesis follows the methodology and parameters according to the comprehensive assessment model of the quality by Delgado, Ruiz and Jiménez (2006) and the methodological proposals by Rodríguez et al (2012) , and finally, Guillén and Ayuso (2013; 2014) for the digital media adapting them to the purpose of this study. The quality indicators have been grouped in the following parameters: editorial description (including quotation analysis and co-authorship, editorial quality and the editorial processes, and diffusion together with visibility. For the analysis, the data were transcribed to a Microsoft Excel form, and then, the data exported to the program SPSS 20.0 to carry out the statistical analysis and the more complex graphic designs. Results: Within the publishing parameter description, we should highlight the index of 3.73 in collaboration with an increase in the number of quotes with 19.64 references per article, the improvement in updating those quotes, foreign citation and a constant update. Digital quality indicators are more compliant with the inclusion of summaries, SRI and authors’ interaction, as they need to improve the format, the ability to share information between users and the inclusion of DOI and the use of social networks. Within the editorial quality parameter, we should highlight information about the rules for publication to the authors, while intermediate values find fulfillment in the success of the director, regularity and punctuality and also areas for improvement in the international Advisor Committee on Information and bioethical issues. Within the parameters of quality, aspects about editorial processes are better accomplished in most parts in pairs for evaluation and revision. Higher shortfall deficit showing on information, criteria and evaluation evidence. In the dissemination and visibility parameter we positively highlight indicators like the presence in university libraries and electronic catalogs with indexing in national databases, especially in Cuidenplus, and on the other hand the need to improve a lot in terms of open access databases, presence in databases and international impact indexes. Statistical analysis confirms that the scientific journals published by scientific associations have higher levels of quality, and to have higher scores in quality thus improving the dissemination and international visibility. Conclusions: The realisation of this research has obtained an overview in the Spanish nursing journals, which are published in digital format and also revealed a number of signs indicating the progressive growth of nursing discipline. Such as a direct route to achieving a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, in the context of the European Higher Education Area. The creation of a body of knowledge would see an exponential increase in nursing productivity considered by the UNESCO as a separate and distinct category within the International Standard Classification of Education; reference patterns and a collaborative approach are guidelines in the process of scientific maturity; and improvement in the presence of databases and national and international repertoire, as well as indexes of scientific impact assessment. All this finds a successful group of Spanish nursing journals with high editorial quality, concern by adopting transparent editorial process and follow universal patterns of scientism, which will generate opportunities to build a scientific recognition of the Spanish nursing to manifest through a greater visibility and dissemination along with greater consideration within the universal scientific context.

Full textIn view of the importance of the scientific journals as vehicles for thetransmission of knowledge, in this thesis we have assessed the visibility ofspanish medical journals by considering data from the Ulrich's InternationalPeriodicals Directory in the year 2000. The coverage of this directory hasbeen compared with the specialized data bases Index Medicus/medline,´Indice M´edico Espa nol/ime and Journal Citation Reports (jcr). The evolution across the twentieth century of 459 spanish medical journalsincluded in the Ulrich's International Periodicals Directory has beenanalyzed, studying aspects such as: the year the journal was founded, theage and stability, the location at which the journal was edited, the publishertype (commercial or institutional), the thematic area, the publicationfrequency, the direct publication (subscription/print-run) and indirect publication(circulation in data bases), presence in libraries, electronic editionsand publication language.Additionally, we have analyzed which journals have reached the maximumdegree of international visibility, i.e., those circulating simultaneouslyin the Ulrich's International Periodicals Directory, in the medline, in theime and in the jcr. In this case we have studied the impact factor in additionto those aspects formerly mentioned. We found the journals which dominated are those founded in 1981-1990,those that have survived between 10 and 30 years, those edited in Madridand Barcelona, and those that are published by commercial publishers andprofessional/scientific societies. Common characteristics of these journals arethat they are in scientific areas: medical sciences, pharmacology and surgery, have a trimonthly and bimonthly periodicity, have a print-run between1000 and 5000 copies and circulate mainly in the data bases: Excerpta Medica/embase, ´Indice M´edico Espa nol/ime and Index Medicus/medline. Withrespect to their electronic editions, most of them are electronic versions of thepaper journal, and with respect to their language, most of them are writtenin Spanish. We found that Actas Espa nolas de Psiquiatr´ýa, Journal of Physiology andBiochemistry, Medicina Cl´ýnica, Nefrolog´ýa, Revista Cl´ýnica Espa nola, Revistade Neurolog´ýa, Revista Espa nola de Cardiolog´ýa and Revista Espa nola deEnfermedades Digestivas constitute the eight spanish medical journals withthe highest circulation in the year 2000.

Full textThe evaluation of scientific research is an essential process for organisations responsible of developing scientific policies, scientists, editors and organizations connected to scientific knowledge diffusion process. The study analyzes the scientific production of Spanish Biomedical journals indexed in Journal Citation Reports database between 2003-2007, by means of a Bibliometric approach with the aim to characterise the productivity, collaboration and scientific impact. Alike, a Social Network Analysis to identify research groups and a quantitative analysis of the Medical Subject Headings terms (descriptors assigned to papers indexed in Medline) are performed to determinate main research areas. 12,335 papers have been analysed, 86.4% published in eleven Spanish language journals and 13.59% published in five English language journals. Collaboration index of articles was 5,22; the transience index of 71.47% and 63.07% of papers were cited (February 2009). The great majority of Spanish language journals belong to official publications of Spanish medical societies which disseminate research topics of interest for its members. A remarkable number of Spanish research groups have been identified in Spanish language journals, 85.8% of papers have been generated in Health Care institutions and domestic and regional collaboration prevails. On the other hand, English language journals are focused on basic research. They have a lower productivity, but a higher international participation and outstanding citation rates. 87.62% of papers have been published by academic scientists and international collaboration ranges between 16% and 22% of the collaborations. There is no gender equality, particularly when considering the most productive researchers. Gender of 6,845 authors (>1 paper) have been identified, 66.91% men and 33.09% women. It has been observed a women’s decrease while the productivity thresholds are increased, from 40.16% of women with two papers to 11.17% of women with more than nine papers. An approach to characterise the scientific activity of research groups identified by means of Social Network Analysis which combines bibliometric indicators and the descriptors of the Medical Subject Headings assigned to papers in Medline is described.

Full textThe aims of this work are the elaboration, validation and application of a model of assessment of scientific journals adapted to the Spanish journals in the field of Sport and Physical Activity, in order to classify them according to several categories of quality. For so doing, first, the repertoire of scientific-technical journals is updated, analysing basic features of 32 journals identified in this field. Later, a model for global assessment of quality is elaborated, combining formal, scientific content and diffusion indicators. The model has 23 indicators referring to 67 features of a journal. Two procedures were used to validate the model. The first one consisted in content validation of the definition, implementation and theoretical rational of the 23 indicators. The second one consisted in comparing results alter its applications with results form the applications of another model with large tradition (model of the University of São Paulo) to a group of 10 journals, with a degree of coincidence of 80%. The validated model was applied to issues of the 32 journals of the repertoire published in 2004. Results rank only one journal (3,1%) in the category "very high quality", four (12,5%) in the category "high quality", fifteen (46,9%) in "medium quality" and twelve (37,5%) in "low quality". Finally, a number of suggestions are considered. They are addressed mainly to editors in order to gain recognition by improving the scientific and editorial quality of their journals.

Full textA problem has arisen due to the lack of work and papers throughout history, both within Spanish medicine and internationally, dealing with the sport as a cause and as disease treatment. The main purpose of the present study is to aknowledge the historical evolution of studies dealing with sport as a cause and treatment of diseases in Spanish medical journals between 1900 and 1975. As specific objectives we aim to determine the sports that were the object of studies and their variation along the above mentioned period, the kinds of diseases they caused, in which diseases they were used as treatments, the professional profile of the authors of the works gathered and to study the features of the relationship between the chronological evolution and subject matter observation and the practice development of the studied sports in Spain. As a historical frame we have dealt with; Medicine and sport, its historical relationship, the history of sport in Spain, Sport medicine in Spain. The methodology and materials used are the following: written sources have been consulted, as well as journal papers printed in Spain between 1900 and 1975 addressed to medicine experts whose topic was the sport as a cause and treatment of diseases (20 related to general medicine and 2 related to sports medicine). The result has been 102 original articles and 42 reports found. A descriptive statistics analysis has been carried out: annual article distribution by year, author, journal, kind of reference, author production and topic. The sports that have been the object of the present study have been those with major presence in Spanish medical journals and a biographical profile of the authors of higher production has been carried out together with an analysis of their papers' content.
