Abstract:
A new genus and species of rhagionids with a long proboscis, Elliprhagio macrosiphonius gen. et sp. nov., is described from the Middle Jurassic Jiulongshan Formation in Daohugou, Inner Mongolia, China, which is considered to be the earliest hematophagous rhagionid described hitherto according to the typically piercing and sucking mouthparts. All previously documented rhagionids from northeastern China are reviewed a key to genera of Rhagionidae from Daohugou is provided for the first time. The genus Daohugorhagio Zhang, 2013 is considered as a new synonym of Trichorhagio Zhang, 2013.

Rhagionidae (Brachycera, Tabanomorpha) is a widespread family of the order Diptera, containing ca. 720 species in 22 genera and distributed worldwide. Chrysopilus Marquart is one of the most speciose genus of Rhagionidae. Here we describe Chrysopilus kafkai sp. nov. Cegolin & Santos, the first record of a rhagionid species from Serra da Bodoquena, in the Midwest Brazilian region, and includes an identification key and a distribution map to the Brazilian species of Chrysopilus. The species description is complemented by a molecular characterization of the 28S rRNA sequence.

Neorhagio Lindner was known to date exclusively from its type species, from Chile. The status of the genus among the Rhagionidae is controversial, sometimes confounded with Atherimorpha White or Rhagio Fabricius. Two new species of Neorhagio, N. caligatus sp. n. and N. nagatomii sp. n., are described and illustrated based on material collected in the Reserva ‘Biosfera’ El Triunfo, Northern Mexico. The differences between Neorhagio, Atherimorpha and Rhagio are considered, and comments are made on the presence of posteroventral cercal lobes in Rhagionidae.

In the course of 2006-2007, the author carried out an investigation on the fly fauna at Gyűrűfű. Any flies have not been recorded from this area so far. As many different fly habitats can be found in 1 km2 sample area so the fauna is rich in fly species. The author identified fly species from only the following families: Syrphidae, Tachinidae, Culicidae, Bombyliidae, Stratiomyidae, Tabanidae, Conopidae, Acroceridae, Athericidae, Coenomyiidae, Rhagionidae, Scenopinidae, Therevidae, Xylomiidae, Xylophagidae. Altogether 450 species of above mentioned families are known from the area.
