The Core Cape Sub-region is well known for its low nutrient, low pH soils which harbour a variety of alpha and beta- Proteobacteria associated with a diversity of legume species. Soil bacteria are important for ecological processes and are influenced mostly by edaphic factors such as salinity and pH, and climatic conditions such as temperature. An effective, fast-growing strain of Rhizobium was isolated from a species of Lupinus native to the Sonoran desert near San Felipe, Baja, Mexico (generation time, 3.6 h). Bacteria isolated from the roots of lupines are normally slow growing, however, Lupine 43, is a fast grower, possesses multiple flagella and produces acid in a defined medium. Para se avaliar a influência da adubação orgânica, a que foi submetida cana-de-açúcar, na fisiologia de bactérias diazotróficas endofíticas foram identificados e estudados 36 isolados de plantas submetidas a tratamentos orgânico e convencional ou sem tratamento (controle). Foi evidenciado predomínio da família Enterobacteriaceae (75%).
