Abstract:
Pattern blocks are multifunctional instructional tools with a variety of applications in various strands of mathematics (number sense, geometry, measurement, algebra, probability). The six pattern blocks are an equilateral triangle (green), a blue rhombus, an isosceles trapezoid (red), a regular hexagon (yellow), a square (orange), and a white rhombus. The sides of all pattern blocks are congruent, considered to be 1 unit in length for this article. Photograph 1 depicts a wall painting with squares and rhombuses found in Jersey City, New Jersey.

ABSTRACTThe crystal structure of ceruleite, CuAl4[AsO4]2(OH)8(H2O)4, has been solved to anR1of 0.0307, using the world's largest crystals from the Cap Garonne mine, France. Ceruleite crystallizes in space groupP21/n, with the unit cella= 7.2000(14),b= 11.345(2),c= 9.856(2) Å, β = 105.57(3)°,V= 775.6(3) Å3andZ= 1. Ceruleite has a unique structure that consists of Al(O,OH)6octahedra that are sharing edges to form rhombus-shaped tetramers. AsO4tetrahedra share two corners with one such rhombus and the other two corners with each of two other rhombi, linking them into a very open mesoporous framework. Cu(OH)2(H2O)2squares lie in the channels and link Al4rhombi along ||b. H2O molecules are also located in the channels.

Students have many reasons for making a sketch with The Geometer“s Sketchpad. Their purpose may be to explore the behavior of a particular geometric figure, such as a rhombus, or to model a New users must understand the difference between a drawing and a construction physical situation, such as a ladder leaning against a wall. They may want to make a beautiful pattern inspired by Navajo rug designs, or their goal may be an animation—perhaps a Ferris wheel or a merry-go-round. No matter what the purpose, they want the finished sketch to behave well when they drag basic elements around in it. If investigating properties of rhombuses, they want the figure to remain a rhombus while they drag to explore its different sizes and shapes. Students want to end up with a construction, not merely a drawing.

Abstract:
In the article, the author sets the goal of analyzing the semantics of the symbols of the rhombus and the slanting cross in archaic symbolics and folk ornaments based on the proto-myth concept he proposed. The structural method is applied to analyse these symbols. The study found that these symbols reflect different aspects of the archaic Goddess. The rhombus expresses the connection of the Goddesses hypostases with the certain spheres of Space, and a slanting cross shows connection with her four hypostasis (goddesses of head, two breasts and vulva) hidden in the symbols located in sectors of a slanting cross. Such conception gives a new perspective for interpreting semantics of a rhombus and a slanting cross in ornaments. The practical significance of the article is that it allowed to penetrate into both the semantics and the structure of the slanting cross and rhombus in the geometric ornaments of embroidered and woven rushnyky of Ukraine and Belarus. The article illustrates the organic connection between archaic symbolism and folk ornaments while refuting the idea that the semantics of these ornaments have been lost and cannot be recognized.

Abstract:
We propose a new aperiodic pixel layout based on the Ammann-Beenker tiling. It is uniformly three-colorable and uses only two simple pixel shapes, making it advantageous over other irregular layouts for color imaging. The existing Penrose pixel layout, which is another aperiodic pixel layout in rhombus Penrose tiling, also has the same properties. However, the Penrose pixel layout uses 36-degree and 72-degree rhombus pixel shapes, while the Ammann-Beenker pixel layout uses square and 45-degree rhombus pixel shapes. Hence the manufacture of Ammann-Beenker pixels is much more feasible than that of Penrose. We evaluate the performance of Ammann-Beenker pixel layout with two problems: super-resolution and demosaicking. Experimental results show that Ammann-Beenker pixel layout outperforms square one and is highly competitive with Penrose one.

Abstract:
Low energy isomers of [Formula: see text] and Au4 were reexamined using the hybrid density functional B3LYP method and the couple-cluster method with the aug-cc-pVDZ-PP and aug-cc-pVTZ-PP basis sets. For [Formula: see text], the B3LYP method favors the zigzag isomer and the second order Moller–Plesset perturbation (MP2) total energy calculation favors the D2h rhombus isomer, whereas the couple-cluster singles and doubles with perturbative triples [CCSD(T)] level of theory favors the Y-shaped C2v isomer. The pyramid isomer is much higher in energy and could be easily excluded. The Gibbs free energy correction based on harmonic approximation suggests that the zigzag isomer is lower in free energy than the D2h rhombus isomer at 298.15 K. These results confirm that the Y-shaped C2v isomer is the global minimum at both 0 K and room temperature and is thus the major isomer to account for the experimental photoelectron spectrum. The zigzag isomer is suggested, as a minor isomer, to account for the weak second peak at 3.40 eV in the experimental photoelectron spectrum. For neutral Au4 , the zigzag isomer is more stable than D2h rhombus isomer at the B3LYP level and the D2h rhombus isomer is the global minimum on basis of all post Hartree–Fock levels of theory.

Abstract:
The parameters of interference patterns observed on the cornea in a polarized light in pathology of extraocular muscles were quantitatively evaluated. A study of the shape of 147 interference patterns observed on the cornea in a polarized light showed that the horizontal deviation of an eye in 56 % of cases was caused by the displacement of the attachment of the upper rectus muscle towards the inner rectus muscle. During illumination of the cornea of a live eye with polarized light, a specific interference pattern in the form of a rhombus formed by rainbow stripes (isochromes) is observed. It is established that such an interference pattern is the result of the influence of extraocular muscles on the cornea. The findings showed that the weakening of the force of one of muscles leads to asymmetric distortion of the shape of the interference rhombus, which is manifested with a reduced length of the corresponding section of the diagonal. On the contrary, as the force of the muscle increases, the corresponding section of the diagonal enhances. The displacement of the attachment site of direct extraocular muscle along the line of action is equivalent to a change in effort on its part, indicated appropriately by the shape of the interference rhombus. As the muscle moves away from the line of action, the angle of the interference rhombus is shifted away from the corresponding meridian. Key words: polarized light, optical anisotropy, cornea, extra−ocular muscles, interference picture.

Abstract:
n this study, loading was carried out for several types of perforated plates, such as circular, rhombic and rectangular holes, where the holes were arranged in two types, namely straight arrangement and alternating arrangement. The stress intensity factor and shape factor were calculated for each case, taking into account the diameter of the holes. So, it is found the SIF increases significantly when the plate is perforated, and the same applies to the shape factor, also increases. In the case of circular holes, the increases in the average value of (SIF) reached to (80.88 %) when the plate was perforated with alternated arranged of circular holes, while the straight arrangement of circular holes the increases of average values of SIF reach to (67.55 %). Either in the case of rhombus holes: the SIF values are increases to (51.07 %) when the plate was perforated with the alternated arrangement, while in the straight arrangement of holes the (SIF) increase to (35.43 %). It was observed through this study, the increases of stress intensity factor and the shape factor with different crack lengths were more stable in the plate that perforated with an alternated arrangement of holes than the straight arrangement. The higher values of stress intensity factor obtained when the plates were perforated with circular holes, due to the circular shape has more stiffness, so the Absorption of force will be small Compared with the rhombus and rectangular shape that will be less stiffness which the absorption of strength is greater.

Abstract:
In this paper, a novel design and experimental study of microstrip-line-fed rhombus-shaped slot antenna is presented. The proposed antenna shows an ultra-wide band (UWB) operation with good impedance matching by choosing appropriate rhombus-shaped slot and feeding structure. The proposed antenna has a simple structure and compact size as compared with many reported antennas. The measured results validate the design and the impedance bandwidth can operate from 2.78 to 12.92 GHz (10.14 GHz), which evidently covers entire UWB (3.1–10.6 GHz). Furthermore, the key parameters of the antenna are also discussed to study their persuade on the antenna performance.

Abstract:
Goal The goal of this article is to present the author’s definition of security environment. It constitutes a redefinition and expansion of the narrow (four-element) approach presented in the White Book on National Security of the Republic of Poland. I propose a broad, eight-element approach. Methods I redefine security environment based on several premises. The first is the concept of the triangle of (the need for) security – the existence of this triangle necessitates and is sufficient for the need for security to arise. The second premise is the existence of the rhombus of security (culture), which necessitates and is sufficient for security to manifest, i.e. for the need for security to be satisfied. Results The above premises lead to the conclusion that the narrow approach to security environment should be ontically expanded to include elements comprising the triangle of the (need for) security and the security (culture) rhombus. This results in an eight-element definition of security environment. Conclusions The article illustrates an important issue in the security sciences – the need to expand the definition of security environment. I present and justify an alternative to the narrow approach to security environment, which is based on the narrow definition presented in the White Book on National Security of the Republic of Poland.

Professor Gustav Adolf Michaelis was an outstanding German obstetrician-gynecologist, one of the founders of scientific obstetrics. He gained worldwide recognition for his studies on the “sacral rhombus”, named after him the “rhombus of Michaelis”. Dr. Michaelis was an honest, hardworking and rather critical person, so in 1847, he did not instantly accept the ideas of Ignaz Philipp Semmelweis’s on “preventing puerperal fever”. Only in 1848, Michaelis introduced the compulsory chlorine hand washing in his clinic and made sure that mortality had dropped significantly. He was very depressed when he realized how many women (including his beloved niece) died from postpartum fever due to unsanitary obstetric practices. On August 8, 1848, Gustav Adolf Michaelis committed suicide.

Abstract:
Abstract N.N'-Diphenylformamidinato gold(I) (1) is obtained from Na(PhNCH NPh) and Aul in liquid ammonia. It can be recrystallized from toluene/n-heptane to form colorless monoclinic crystals, the space group C 2/c, with the lattice constants a = 1781.7(7), b = 1159.0(5), c = 2518.7(8) pm, β = 99.06(3)°. 1 is tetrameric in solution and in the solid state. In the tetrameric complex with the symmetry C2 the four Au atoms form a planar rhombus with Au -Au distances between 295,7 and 322.7 pm. The amidinato ligands are arranged alternatively above and below the Au4-rhombus and function as bridging ligands for neighbouring Au atoms, which thereby reach a linear coordination with distances A u -N between 200.0 and 202.4 pm.
