Abstract:
CWM Global Search is a meta-search engine allowing chemists and biologists to search the major chemical and biological databases on the Internet, by structure, synonyms, CAS Registry Numbers and free text. A meta-search engine is a search tool that sends user requests to several other search engines and/or databases and aggregates the results into a single list or displays them according to their source [1]. CWM Global Search is a web application that has many of the characteristics of desktop applications (also known as Rich Internet Application, RIA), and it runs on both Windows and Macintosh platforms. The application is one of the first RIA for scientists. The application can be started using the URL http://cwmglobalsearch.com/gsweb.

Abstract:
Current Web 2.0 applications, either social sites or Rich Internet Applications, share several problems of interoperability when interconnecting different systems. It is therefore complicated to reuse (or export) the information between sources. In this context, where the value belongs to the data, not the application, the use of Semantic Web technologies opens a way of resolution with mature and standard technologies, thus leading to the Web 3.0. This paper presents the application of Sm4RIA (Semantic Models for RIA), a model-driven design methodology that facilitates the development of semantic RIAs (SRIA), to the design of social network sites. The SRIA approach introduced herein combines the main advantages present in each of the current trends on the Web. In addition to these benefits, the application of a model-driven methodology can speed up the development process and simplify the reuse of external sources of knowledge.

Abstract:
Although Geographic information system has just developed for decades, the course of its development is very rapid. The application and services of GIS technology have almost extended all the fields related to spatial information. Map, as the basis of GIS, its important position is self-evident. Map symbol is the language of the GIS map, which is the expression of the map content, the main medium of spatial-data information transferring, and an important feature differs from other images referring to the geographical environment. The function of Dynamic electronic map based on modern visualization tools, is far more superior to the traditional static map. Its expression is more rich and vivid, and introduces interactive operation into loading images, which enhanced the initiative and adaptability. The dynamic symbol is the basis of powerful visualization capabilities of dynamic map. With the support of the dynamic symbol, dynamic map is even more vivid and detailed. This paper is mainly about design method of dynamic map symbols based on rich Internet applications (Rich Internet Applications, abbreviation RIA). Take Flex as the case, which focus on the animation effect in Flex and achieves the dynamical substitution of point symbols on the map published by ArcGIS Server with ArcGIS API for Flex. Furthermore, look forward to the combined applications with web service.

Abstract:
During the past decade, web applications have evolved substantially. Taking advantage of new technologies, Rich Internet Applications (RIAs) make heavy use of client side code to present content. Web crawlers, however, face new challenges in crawling RIAs, such as how to explore and identify different client states. The problem of crawling RIAs has been a focus for researchers during recent years, and solutions have been proposed based on constructing a state-transition model with DOMs as states and JavaScript events as transitions. When faced with real-life RIAs, however, a major problem prevalent in current solutions is state space explosion caused by the complexity of the RIAs. This problem prevents the automated crawlers from being usable on complex RIAs as they fail to produce useful results in a timely fashion. This research addresses the challenge of efficiently crawling complex RIAs with two main ideas: component-based crawling and similarity detection. Our experimental results show that these ideas lead to a drastic reduction of the time required to produce results, enabling the crawler to explore RIAs previously too complex for automated crawl.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Ben, Hafaiedh Khaled. "A Scalable P2P RIA Crawling System with Fault Tolerance." Thesis, Université d'Ottawa / University of Ottawa, 2016. http://hdl.handle.net/10393/34646.

Abstract:
Rich Internet Applications (RIAs) have been widely used in the web over the last decade as they were found to be responsive and user-friendly compared to traditional web applications. RIAs use client-side scripting such as JavaScript which allows for asynchronous updates on the server-side using AJAX (Asynchronous JavaScript and XML). Due to the large size of RIAs and therefore the long time required for crawling, distributed RIA crawling has been introduced with the aim to decrease the crawling time. However, the current RIA crawling systems are not scalable, i.e. they are limited to a relatively low number of crawlers. Furthermore, they do not allow for fault tolerance in case that a failure occurs in one of their components. In this research, we address the scalability and resilience problems when crawling RIAs in a distributed environment and we explore the possibilities of designing an efficient RIA crawling system that is scalable and fault-tolerant. Our approach is to partition the search space among several storage devices (distributed databases) over a peer-to-peer (P2P) network where each database is responsible for storing only a portion of the RIA graph. This makes the distributed data structure invulnerable to a single point of failure. However, accessing the distributed data required by crawlers makes the crawling task challenging when the number of crawlers becomes high. We show by simulation results and analytical reasoning that our system is scalable and fault-tolerant. Furthermore, simulation results show that the crawling time using the P2P crawling system is significantly faster than the crawling time using both the non-distributed crawling system and the distributed crawling system using a single database.

The inputs of these actors of design need to be integrated by taking into account the life cycle of the buildings, which requires that design have a "transversal" dimension. This can be achieved by including, in the early stages of process, constraints and parameters that are usually managed much later in traditional organizations. This study highlights the strong demand for design steering aiming at improving the quality of design and thus reducing the appearance of dysfunctions. With regard to this, we highlight the multidisciplinary characteristics as well as the predictive and reactive aspects of design steering in architecture. Then we enrich the model so that it covers the predictive and reactive aspects of design steering. This is done on the basis of our analysis of design steering, which allowed to uncover two narrowly linked entities. These two entities, which are generally implicit but are actually present in design projects, are: the problematic situation and the aimed situation. Finally, we specify and present the mock-up of a tool that is superior to the existing drawing, CAD, calculation or simulation tools. The tool that we present doesn't belong to the same "family". In fact, it can be called "reactive", which means that instead of allowing to define a solution, it allows to determine when the intervention pilot actor is needed

Abstract:
<p>An IPTV Set-top box enables the possibility of doing much more than decodingtelevision content. Its Ethernet interface gives it the same possibilities to communicatewith the outside world as any network device. This enables a wide rangeof services from internet radio to acting as a digital media receiver in your homenetwork. These highly interactive services increase the demands for responsiveand visually attractive user interfaces.Due to the cost-sensitive market of IPTV STBs the preferred platform to developthe user interface is the HTML browser as it allows for fast developmenttimes and low costs. As a W3C standard it also offers high portability and hardwareabstraction making it easy to use more than one STB vendor. The cons ofHTML based GUIs are low performance and lacklustre graphics. This thesis aims to find out if SVG can be used to achieve rich, scalable and animatedgraphics with high performance and still keep the attractive characteristicsof HTML.To do this much effort was put into identifying the strenghts and weaknesses ofSVG. The lessons learned resulted in an SVG AJAX framework called TOIXSVGmaking it possible to develop SVG GUIs in the same manner as modern Rich InternetApplications, enabling component reuse to make sure development time scalespreferably with the scope and complexity of the user interface. Along with theframework several new widgets had to be developed to achieve the targeted functionality. As a proof of concept a mock-up GUI was created with the frameworkand widgets.</p>

Abstract:
Modeling the performance and emissions characteristics of gas turbine engines can involve sequentially solving multiple thermodynamic states of a representative fluid flowing through the engine, evaluating cycle performance, and evaluating the chemical equilibrium of the fluid at select states. The states are defined by the combination of specified thermodynamic conditions, process assumptions derived from established theory of gas turbine engines, and thermodynamic properties of the representative fluid. Internet based applications such as TEST allow experienced analysts to structure and evaluate thermodynamic models of gas turbine engines and separately evaluate the chemical equilibrium of air-fuel mixtures to predict exhaust emissions. Although the TEST thermodynamic and chemical equilibrium data retrieval is automated, analysts are required to first structure the system model. The Internet based software described in this paper allows analysts to combine the modeling of performance and emissions characteristics of gas turbine engines without the need to first structure a model, broadening the range of potential analysts beyond the thermodynamic and chemical equilibrium communities. The software presented in this work combines a visually rich and Internet based interface to input specifications and display results, a communication mechanism to obtain Internet based thermodynamic and chemical equilibrium data, and a solution architecture to autonomously interpret user inputs and Web based data and model engine parameters. This software also allows analysts to modify the model complexity, accounting for irreversibilities and auxiliary devices such as regenerators, reheaters, and intercoolers as required. Data reduction features such as graphical representation of parametric studies and combustion product distribution are also available within the software.

Abstract:
Seedless cultivars dominate the table grape industry. In these cultivars it is mandatory to apply gibberellin (GA) to stimulate berry development to a commercially acceptable size. These cultivars differ in their sensitivity to GA application, and it frequently results in adverse effects such as decreased bud fertility and increased fruit drop. Our long term goals are to (1) understand the molecular basis for the differential sensitivity and identify markers for selection of sensitive cultivars (2) to develop new strategies for targeted manipulation of the grape berry response to GA that will eliminate the need in GA application and the undesirable effects of GA on the vine, while maintaining its desirable effects on the berry. Both strategies are expected to reduce production cost and meet growing consumer demand for reduced use of chemicals. This approach relies on a comprehensive characterization of the central components in the GA signaling cascade in the berry. Several key components in the GA signaling pathway were identified in Arabidopsis and rice, including the GA receptors, GID1s, and a family of DELLA proteins that are the major negative regulators of the GA response. GA activates its response pathway by binding to GID1s, which then target DELLAs for degradation via interaction with SLY, a DELLA specific F-box protein. In grape, only one DELLA gene was characterized prior to this study, which plays a major role in inhibiting GA-promoted stem growth and GA-repressed floral induction but it does not regulate fruit growth. Therefore, we speculated that other DELLA family member(s) may control GA responses in berry, and their identification and manipulation may result in GA-independent berry growth. In the current study we isolated two additional VvDELLA family members, two VvGID1 genes and two VvSLY genes. Arabidopsis anti-AtRGA polyclonal antibodies recognized all three purified VvDELLA proteins, but its interaction with VvDELLA3 was weaker. Overexpression of the VvDELLAs, the VvGID1s, and the VvSLYs in the Arabidopsis mutants ga1-3/rga-24, gid1a-2/1c-2 and sly1-10, respectively, rescued the various mutant phenotypes. In vitro GAdependent physical interaction was shown between the VvDELLAs and the VvGID1s, and GAindependent interaction was shown between the VvDELLAs and VvSLYs. Interestingly, VvDELLA3 did not interact with VvGID1b. Together, the results indicate that the identified grape homologs serve as functional DELLA repressors, receptors and DELLA-interacting F-box proteins. Expression analyses revealed that (1) VvDELLA2 was expressed in all the analyzed tissues and was the most abundant (2) VvDELLA1 was low expressed in berries, confirming former study (3) Except in carpels and very young berries, VvDELLA3 levels were the lowest in most tissues. (4) Expression of both VvGID1s was detected in all the grape tissues, but VvGID1b transcript levels were significantly higher than VvGID1a. (5) In general, both VvDELLAs and VvGID1s transcripts levels increased as tissues aged. Unfertilized and recently fertilized carpels did not follow this trend, suggesting different regulatory mechanism of GA signaling in these stages. Characterization of the response to GA of various organs in three seedless cultivars revealed differential response of the berries and rachis. Interestingly, VvDELLA3 transcript levels in the GA-unresponsive berries of cv. Spring blush were significantly higher compared to their levels in the highly responsive berries of cv. Black finger. Assuming that VvDELLA2 and VvDELLA3 are regulating berry size, constructs carrying potential dominant mutations in each gene were created. Furthermore, constitutive silencing of these genes by mIR is underway, to reveal the effect of each gene on the berry phenotype.
