Contemporary Edwards scholars frequently use the threeness – oneness paradigm to interpret his trinitarianism. The threeness – oneness paradigm maintains that the trinitarian traditions and particular theologians within the traditions reduce to an emphasis on either divine unity/substance or plurality/persons. Eastern Cappadocian trinitarianism and Western theologian Richard of St Victor use the social analogy and represent the threeness trajectory. AbstractThe aim of this article is to show that the claim of Richard Muller in his recent book Divine Will and Human Choice: Freedom, Contingency, and Necessity in Early Modern Reformed Thought, that the Reformed Orthodox were not compatibilists in their view of freedom but held to the indeterminate freedom of the will, is false. The argument takes the reader through Turretin’s claim in his Institutes that freedom does not consist in indifference but in rational spontaneity. Abstract This article provides a new context for the politics surrounding the death of Edward IV, the accession of Edward V and his replacement in turn by Richard III. By examining prophecy texts, both those recorded at the time and those preserved in local tradition, the article shows how Richard's role as protector and then as king was validated in prophecy. The article sheds new light on Richard of Gloucester's possible motivations and self-interpretation, and further suggests the ways in which the prophecy tradition helped give Richard's regime its particular form.
