Abstract:
Vedic texts have established the cult of worshipping natural phenomena, which from the surface understanding is the process of personification, but in real, Vedic hymns show on how the Vedic people have understood the underlying power of nature. Vedas, Rig Veda, Sama Veda, Yajur Veda and Atharva Veda, have joined the human culture with the philosophy of nature in the mode of natural theology. The culture of sacrifice taught through Vedic hymns has conveyed the knowledge of mutual dependence of man, God and nature. Vedas have proven the natural theological notion of nature-God relation with the hymns devoted to nature phenomena as the metaphors of power, creativity, essence and purity in the forms of deities. Vedas have pertained ecocentrism as the cultural practice of nature eminence. They have further addressed the idea of environmental ethics through the Vedic view of cosmological and ontological unity in nature, and the ethics of natural law in the form of rita, dharma and karma. With the examination of Vedic priority to nature, especially from the Rig Veda, this study anticipates to link Vedic natural religion with the nineteenth century philosophy of natural theology and late twentieth century ecological study of environmental ethics.

Abstract:

In this paper a novel methodology is proposed to identify and to compare the frequency range of different Vedic chantings from Rig Veda, Yajur Veda, Atharva Veda and Sama Veda. Nowadays in spite of busy schedule and hectic work, the human beings are mostly stressed. To get rid from this stressed state, one of the best solutions is listening Vedic chantings. The alpha brainwaves are in the frequency range of 8-12 Hz under giving relaxation to stressed human being. Three selected samples from each Veda have been processed through the simulation compiler Praat and the parameters like spectral response, pitch, intensity, formants and pulses have observed. In the above identified parameters, the frequency in intensity calculation is taken for each sample. This frequency is compared with the brainwaves for which the frequencies are in the ranges of 0 Hz to >27 Hz (alpha, beta, gamma, theta and delta). The extracted signal frequencies from Vedic chantings are compared with frequencies of brainwaves. Among the four Vedas, the frequencies extracted from Sama Veda lies in alpha frequency range. The remaining is fluctuating from alpha.

Abstract:
The Bhagavad Gita is usually called the fifth veda ( pancama veda ), together with the four Sanskrit Vedas, namely the Rig Veda , Atharwa Veda , Sama Veda and Yajur Veda . The Balinese are familiar with the five vedas, and know the Bhagavad Gita as the sixth book of the ancient Javanese version of the Mahabharata epic. The Bhagavad Gita that features as a part of the ancient Javanese version of the Bhisma Parwa is ascribed to King Teguh Dharmawangsa Anantavikrama Uttunggadewa of the Kediri Kingdom in the 10th century CE. He is credited to have been responsible for ordering the translation of the Mahabharata (known in Bali as Asta Dasar Parwa —the 18 parwas). This translation effort from Sanskrit into the ancient Javanese language was dubbed mangjawaken Byasamata (translating into Javanese the works of the sage Byasa). The ancient Javanese version of the Bhagavad Gita contains the dialogues between Kresna and Arjuna about the swadarma (holy obligations and responsibilities) of a ksatriya (warrior) according to his wangsa (social class). A ksatriya was deemed responsible for defending his country, fighting against the enemy, as well as for upholding truth, satya wacana (truthfulness), lascarya (sincerity) and sradha bhakti (devotional service). Keywords: Bhagavad Gita, Asta Dasa Parwa , satya wacana , lascarya , bhakti Abstrak Bhagavad Gita sering disebut veda yang kelima (pancama veda) disamping empat veda yang ada, iaitu Rig Veda, Atharwa Veda, Sama Veda dan Yajur Veda berbahasa Sanskrit. Abstract:
Atharva Veda occupies a unique position among the four Vedas. The other three Vedas deal with matters of other world, the gods, the nature and supernatural, while Atharva Veda is more worldly. It seeks to solve the problems of this world and its common people. It deals with topic like leading a long and healthy life, to avoid sorrow, to ward off illness, to vanquish or win over the enemy, etc. Atharva Veda presents a detailed description of the life style of a very early stage of human society, which has just entered the agricultural stage. The importance of animal wealth cows, oxen, horses is much more. New kingdoms are being established. Men want to live happy healthy lives upto one hundred years. Pandit Bhagwat Sharma Upadhyay, in hindi Vishwakosh, says, “The stress in Atharva Veda is not so much on the use of Karma Kanda or the rituals, as on doing right or wrong, high or low, do-s and don’ts, popular beliefs, and tendencies of life. From this point of view, the importance of Atharva Veda is much more, for the historian, than of the other three Vedas. The first references to puranas, history, gathas etc. are found here. This Veda also points to many such traditions which are not only older than Rig Veda, but really go back to very very old times”.

Abstract:
The framework of the paper is Natural Syntax initiated by Janez Orešnik in thetradition of (morphological) naturalness as established by Wolfgang U. Dressler and Willi Mayerthaler. The basic tenets of Natural Syntax are described at the beginning of the paper. Natural Syntax is here applied to aspects of Old Indian synchronic verbal morphonology and verbal morphosyntax: (1) Causative -áya- verbs in Rig Veda and Atharva Veda. The root vowel a is short in closed syllables and long in open syllables. (2) Rig Veda and Atharva Veda contain 31 intransitive and 175 transitive -áya- verbs. (3) Rig Veda and Atharva Veda do not contain any causative verbs to the basic transitive verbs. (4) Post-Vedic double transitive verbs (the early construction) contain an obligatory accusative corresponding to the subject of the base verb, and an optional accusative corresponding to the object of the base verb. (5) Post-Vedic double transitive verbs (the late construction) contain an obligatory instrumental corresponding to the subject of the base verb, and an accusative corresponding to the object of the base verb. (6) The accusative mentioned in (5) is not obligatory. The data have been taken from Jamison (1983), a monograph about Old Indian -áya- verbs.

Abstract:
Hinduism is undoubtedly the oldest religion of the world and though there are disagreement over the period amongst some historian but it was during 1900 to 1500 BC when Hindu religion came into existence. The foremost religious text of Hindu is Vedas and the origin of the Vedas can be traced back as far as 1500 BCE, when a large group of Aryans crossed the Hindu Kush Mountains and came to Indian subcontinent. The Vedas are full of knowledge. The Vedas have guided the Indian civilization for thousands of years and the Four Vedas are the pillar of Hinduism. The very word Veda has a derivational meaning – the fountainhead and illimitable storehouse of all knowledge. This article will only focus on the mathematical content available in Vedas, Puranas, Ramayana and Mahabharata. In Rig Veda and Atharva Veda, there are several instance where numbers in the power of tens, even numbers, odd numbers, multiples of four, value of pi, mathematical operation such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division have been discussed not in the way we use in our courses but the presence of larger number even up to 1060 is evident. The speed of light, about seven colourful rays of sunlight all these are enough to make a belief that Vedas have put a strong foundation of number system and decimal system. Not even that, even geometrical knowledge found in Sulbha sutra as par excellence and many of them have origin prior to Greek mathematician to whom we owe everything.

Abstract:

Abstract:
This work aims at analyzing some rhetorical and stylistic features of some Greek hymns from various periods. Taking them as a starting point, some hymns from the Rig Veda will be studied as well, in order to assess certain common characteristics of both hymnic traditions and their peculiarities. Based on the close reading of the hymns, the author tries to show the poet\'s formal strategy to praise the deity. The structure of each hymn is a main concern, as are the devices used by the poet to give voice to his praise. As for the Greek hymns, it will be described how the poet persuades the deity to come near and how he builds his work based on contrasting pairs. As for the Rigvedic hymns, it is suggested that some of them are organized around its middle section. The conclusion to be drawn is that in both traditions - in the Greek and the Indian one - the hymn is an offering that creates a bond of reciprocity between deity and his worshipper. The hymn itself is valued in the exchange by means of its stylistic and rhetorical quality.

Abstract:
Since most historical composers of Western art music were European Christians (or resided in areas that were primarily populated by Christians), a vast majority of the sacred choral-orchestral repertoire is based on major figures and themes from the most prominent denominations, including Catholicism, Lutheranism, and Anglicanism. As a corollary this is also the case for analytical, pedagogical, and exegetical literature related to the topic. However, in the late nineteenth century some composers began to look to other faith traditions for inspiration, which resulted in compositions based on texts that are less-familiar to Western audience members and performers. Despite the fact that many of these pieces are innovative and well-written, few, if any, have entered the standard repertoire. Because of this they are under-represented in both performance and extant music literature. The purpose of this study is to examine three compositions from this marginalized category in order to produce a guide that provides salient information on the religious/cultural background and musical aspects of each work. This guide will serve as a resource for conductors to facilitate an understanding of and connection with the text, allow informed programming decisions, and promote approaches that are appropriate and respectful to the religious source material. The pieces selected for investigation are Gustav Holst's Choral Hymns from the Rig Veda, Op. 26: First Group, Lili Boulanger's Vielle Prière Bouddhique (Old Buddhist Prayer), and Robert Cundick's The Redeemer.

Nesse contexto, o presente estudo objetiva a compreensão e análise do espaço geográfico organizado e produzido pelos(as) pescadores(as) artesanais. Pescadores(as) artesanais.
ABSTRACT The fishing activity in Brazil leads us to understand the formation of the Brazilian territory because it carries the influences of each historical moment of this process. The activity was predominantly small-scale fishing, using functions aimed at the livelihood of indigenous communities. The instruments used in the activity were traditional and made by the Indians themselves; some examples of fishing techniques inherited from this period are canoes, rafts and fishnets made of plant fibres, which were developed over the years and are used until the present days. From these changes, one can see an appropriation of nature for the work done by fisherman. One can note that the activity is essentially made and practiced by means of uses and relationships with nature. Thus, it is understood here that this character is foundational to understanding this activity as an organizing element of space. The geographical area is the scene of the struggles and social emergencies that allow the geographer build different concepts that surrounds it. However, the space as a concept is abstract. Making it visible and revealing the social practices of different groups that produce it are aspects of analysis of geographical science in addition to emphasize relationships of contradictions that take place in the different spaces. In this context, this study aims to understand and analyse the geographic space organised and produced by artisanal fishermen. By appropriating nature, they produce space and, as appropriate themselves, they constitute its spatiality and territoriality. In this particular case, we intend to highlight the fishing area of Baiacu community, located in the city of Vera Cruz - Bahia, a space that reveals singularities, thanks to their occupation and historical construct expressing symbolism, metaphors, abundant histories and cultures endowed with practices and social relations which fishermen, shell fishers, sellers, children, women, men make this space a unique place, a singular people, who make their “simple” daily lives the complexity of understanding the forms of resistance and maintenance practice of life by fishing. KEYWORDS: Geographic space. Organization. Production. Artisanal fishermen

DISTEFANO, GIOVANNI VITO.

Full text
Abstract:
In one of the last pages of his Zibaldone, Leopardi cites the famous passage from Purgatorio XXIV, where Dante defines his poetry as the activity of a penman to whom Love dictates. While assumed as a cornerstone of Leopardi's conception of poetry, the Dantean apophthegm – «I' mi son un che quando Amor mi spira noto» (One am I, who, whenever Love doth inspire me, note) – is deliberately and significantly altered, as the quotation states: «I' mi son un che quando Natura parla ec.» (One am I, who, whenever Nature speaks etc.). The dissertation aims to grasp the most of the critical and hermeneutical fecondity of this passage, quite noteworthy notwithstanding its shortness and apparently fortuitousness, and above all its ‘strange’ ambiguity. In order to decipher Leopardi's altered quotation, the investigation researches the complex array of relationships linking his aestetic with some of the most relevant aspects of his vast philosophical speculation: the poetic and ethical concept of naturality; the cognitive and antropological process of the habit; the importance of human imagination and of human disposition to the lyrical expression of himself; the leading, if ambivalent, ethical principle of ‘amor proprio’ (self-love) and its connections with Leopardi's original re-thinking of poetic sublime. Following the path of innovation and continuity, change and repetition, difference and analogy, which is implicitly traced by the intertestual device of the modified quotation, the thesis establishes a comparison between Leopardi's speculative achievements concerning the idea of poetry and Dante's analogues. As a result, the quotation appears to throw up a bridge across centuries of speculative thinking about poetry, affirming the universal value of a conception of poetry hinged on the essential elements of the lyric expression of the self, of human imagination structuring individual creativity and of the sublime leap guiding and animating it.

As it arrives in port theoretical, we use the concept of Territory, according to Saints, seen to consider the territorial boarding a way important to subsidize the agreement, the analysis and it criticizes it in the territorial tram that involves the agricultural space. Abstract:
Abstract It was Peter Gast, Nietzsche’s copyist, claque, practical nurse, and constant correspondent, who gave this book its epigraph from the Rig Veda: “There are so many days that have not yet broken.” It may have been a fateful ornament, since Rig Veda I, 113 (To Dawn) chants “She, first of endless morns to come hereafter, follows the path of morns that have departed,” and the doctrine of eternal recurrence struck Nietzsche with the force of a revelation later that year-1881. But it in any case suggested the title Eine Morgenrdte to Nietzsche. “There are so many gay and particularly red colors in it!” he wrote Gast in February, but the “Eine” was dropped in proof, on grounds of pretentiousness.

Abstract:
Abstract With the expanding offshore rig activity in United Arab Emirates leading to an increased number of horizontal wells and longer drains, coupled with changing rock fabrics, it became imperative to diverge from the existing stimulation methods to deliver more consistent and reliable results. These results were achieved via the introduction of single-phase retarded acid (SPRA) and viscoelastic diverting acid (VEDA) to both active and shut-in wells offshore. The introduction of SPRA and VEDA was possible after extensive laboratory testing including core flow tests, solubility tests, emulsion tendency testing, and corrosion inhibition tests to evaluate and benchmark the performance of these blends in comparison to the existing acid recipes such as plain HCl and polymer-based diverted acid. These tests showed that a combination of SPRA and VEDA would allow maximizing lateral coverage and enhance acid penetration due to the reduced rate of reaction and chemical diversion capabilities from thief zones. Combining the introduction of SPRA and VEDA with a shift to bullheading and higher pumping rates enabled the delivery of previously unachievable production results at sustainable wellhead pressures or even well revival of shut-in wells. In addition, reduction of acid content for dolomite stimulation was possible due to the implementation of acid retardation, which also allowed protecting wellheads from exposure to higher acid concentrations while bullheading. Treatment parameters such as volumes, rates, and acid/diverter sequence and ratio were then adjusted for optimal wormhole penetration across all zones using a new carbonate matrix acidizing modeling software. Post-treatment evaluation for the cases of previously shut-in wells has proven the success of the SPRA and VEDA combination. Shut-in wells that were unable to produce sustainably at the required tubing-head pressure (production flowline pressure), were able to produce sustainably with a 100% increase in production compared to prestimulation testing. Similarly, for gas wells, the combination of SPRA and VEDA resulted in a 50% increase in production at a similar bottomhole pressure. In addition, water injectors have also exhibited sustainably increased levels of injectivity compared to prestimulation levels, leading to better sweepage. The novelty of this paper is the comparison between historical carbonate stimulation results in UAE using plain HCl acid with polymer-based diverted acid and using SPRA with VEDA. It also sheds light on the game-changing solutions that suit the ever-increasing challenges observed in offshore oil and gas wells including well placement, lithology, permeability contrast, and type of hydrocarbon within the various target sublayers.

Full text
Abstract:
The present study is concerned with the unsteady flow field on the blade outer air seal segments of high-work turbines; these segments are installed between the blade tip and outer casing and are usually subjected to extreme heat loads. Time-resolved measurements of the unsteady pressure on the blade outer air seal are made in a low-speed turbine rig. The present measurements indicate the existence of a separation zone on the blade tip which causes a vena contracta to form at the entrance of the tip gap. In addition, a careful comparison between the ensemble-averaged pressure measurement and the corresponding result from steady computation suggests that the pressure on the blade outer air seal can largely be described as being due to a steady flow (in the rotating frame) sweeping past a stationary probe. The ensemble deviation measurement indicates that unsteadiness (from one revolution to the next) is confined to the tip gap.

In ASME 1995 International Gas Turbine and Aeroengine Congress and Exposition. American Society of Mechanical Engineers, 1995. http://dx.doi.org/10.1115/95-gt-128.

Abstract:
Three dimensional turbulent incompressible flows through linear cascades of turbine rotor blades with high turning angles have been analyzed numerically by using a generalized k-ε model which is a high Reynolds number form and derived by RNG (renormalized group) method to account for the variation of the rate of strain. A second order upwind scheme is used to suppress numerical diffusion in approximating the convective terms. Boundary-fitted coordinates are adopted to represent the complex blade geometry accurately. For the case without tip clearance, secondary flows and flow losses are shown to be in good agreement with previous experimental results. For the case with tip clearance, the effects of the passage vortex and tip clearance flow on the total pressure loss as well as their interactions are discussed. The flow within the tip clearance has been analyzed to illustrate the existences of the tip clearance vortex and vena contracta.

Abstract:

Abstract:
The frictional pressure drops and two-phase flow patterns of gas-liquid two-phase flow in mini-micro pipes and at vena contract and expansion were investigated experimentally. Test liquid was water; test gas was argon. The diameter of the test mini-pipe was 0.5, 0.25 and 0.12 mm, respectively. The pressure drop data and the flow pattern were collected over 2.1 < Ug < 92.5 m/s for the superficial gas velocity and 0.03 < Ul < 10 m/s for the superficial liquid velocity. The experimental results show that the flow patterns were slug, churn, ring and annular flows; pure bubbly flow pattern was not observed in a range of the present experimental conditions. The two-phase friction multiplier data for D > 0.5 mm showed to be in good agreement with the conventional correlations. On the other hand, the two-phase friction multiplier data for D < 0.25 mm differed from the calculated values by the conventional correlations. Then, thickness of liquid film around a gas plug and size of gas core were estimated and the effect of frictional pressure drop on channel size was discussed through Knudsen Number of gas and instability on liquid-gas interface. The coefficients of sudden enlargement and sudden contraction in mini-pipes for the gas-water two-phase flow were modified from the present experimental results.

FEASIBILITY STUDY OF VISCOELASTIC HYBRID SELF-CENTERING BRACE (VSCB) FOR SEISMIC-RESISTANT STEEL FRAMES. The Hong Kong Institute of Steel Construction, August 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.18057/icass2020.p.113.

Full text
Abstract:
The practicability of existing self-centering braces is largely limited by their small deformability and insufficient energy dissipation. This paper presents a new type of velocity-dependent self-centering brace called viscoelastic self-centering brace (VSCB), which employs viscoelastic dampers (VED) and SMA cables as the kernel elements. The SMA cables can offer large recoverable deformation, and the viscoelastic dampers, which are velocity-dependent, provide considerable energy dissipation under high-frequency loading excitations but tend to have less detrimental influence on the self-centering capability during the shakedown of the system. A comprehensive system-level analysis on three carefully designed prototype buildings was conducted, including a buckling restrained braced frame (BRBF), a pure self-centering braced frame (SCBF) and a viscoelastic self-centering braced frame (VSCBF). The results show that compared with the SCBF, the VSCBF maintains the benefit of small residual inter-story drift (RID) and in addition, exhibits obviously reduced peak inter-story drift (PID) and peak floor acceleration (PFA).
