This Article analyzes the issue of a woman’s right to legalized abortion and state attempts to circumvent the precedential U.S. Supreme Court decisions recognizing a woman’s right to bodily autonomy, using the state of Indiana as a persistent example of such attempts. A woman’s right to legal abortion is a public health concern. Protection of legal abortion is found through the right to privacy, a right inferred from several amendments to the United States Bill of Rights. Abortion remains one of the most controversial, emotional and burning political issues of our time. Unsafe abortion is a serious public health problem and human rights issue. The pervasive criminalization of abortion in Nigeria is a serious obstacle to improving access to safe and legal abortion. Women’s lack of access to safe legal abortion is a major cause of high rates of maternal mortality. The Nigerian government’s failure to fulfill its human rights obligations under national, regional and international law is largely responsible for this situation. Considering human rights as the protection of our normative agency or personhood, this paper will argue that human rights cannot be extended to human embryos and foetuses. In the first trimester of pregnancy, the moral status of the foetus is not sufficient to overcome the woman’s right to the freedom to control her own body. Abstract:
Fibroepithelial tumors of the breast are part of a heterogeneous group of biphasic neoplasms, which include common fibroadenomas (FA) and phyllodes tumors (PTs). The PT is a rare fibroepithelial tumor that is histologically divided into three grades: benign, malignant, or borderline. Although only about 10% of these tumors are malignant, even benign tumors are prone to local recurrence and can become very large in size. The standard management of PT is surgical excision with negative surgical margins, due to the propensity for local recurrence. Therefore, the report about this type of tumor wi

Abstract:
This case study focuses on the legislative reforms for safe abortion in Nepal. It was selected as a promising case as it offers valuable insights into the factors and forces that drove a country to affirm gender equality and reproductive rights, especially the right to safe abortion, during a radical political transition. Based on analyses of in-depth interviews and a review of published materials, the case study identifies the actors and contextual factors that enabled legalisation of abortion in Nepal, the mechanisms supporting and sustaining change, as well as continuing challenges to imple

Abstract:
New data from our Monthly Abortion Provision Study show there were 1,038,100 clinician-provided abortions in US states without total abortion bans in 2024, an increase of less than 1% from 2023. In 2024, approximately 155,100 people crossed state lines for abortion care, representing 15% of all abortions provided in states without total bans. As threats to reproductive health and rights intensify, these data are a testament to the dedication and determination of abortion patients, providers, funds and support networks.

Abstract:
The US Supreme Court’s June 2022 decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization eliminated the federal constitutional right to abortion in the United States. This report provides a topline summary of the emerging body of research measuring the likely impact of the Dobbs decision on outcomes in four areas: abortion services and access, abortion incidence, incidence of births and contraceptive use. To locate peer-reviewed studies, we searched three academic databases (Google Scholar, PubMed and JSTOR) using the terms “abortion” AND (“Dobbs” OR “Roe”) and limited our summary to study fi

Full text
Abstract:
This paper seeks to lay a foundation for developing a legal method for implementing decolonialisation of law and human rights as they apply to sexual and reproductive health in the African region. It explores decolonisation as theory and praxis and adopts coloniality as a shorthand for the effects of colonisation. It is argued that decolonisation should be anchored in inclusive equality in ways that put a spotlight on intersectionality. The historical criminalisation of abortion is used to illustrate the coloniality of African abortion laws as well as make a case for decolonisation.

Abstract:
Contraception plays a key role in people’s realization of their sexual and reproductive health and well-being. The factors that shape contraceptive behaviors are complex and dynamic, and there is growing recognition among reproductive health service providers and advocates that contraceptive service delivery must prioritize patients’ values and preferences to help them exercise their reproductive autonomy.1 Similarly, research and public health surveillance systems that measure not only contraceptive use and method selection but also contraceptive preferences are best suited to evaluate servic

Abstract:
As a leading funder of global health programs, the United States has the power to make a tremendous impact on people’s sexual and reproductive health and rights. But restrictions on funding that target abortion care internationally have had broad, detrimental impacts on reproductive health care systems, advocacy and outcomes. Such is the case with the so-called global gag rule, a policy that conditions US global health assistance on nongovernmental organizations’ agreement not to provide or promote abortion. Our multiyear research study in Uganda and Ethiopia examines the impact of this policy

Abstract:
Anti-feminist discourse has long been present among groups across the political spectrum in Türkiye. Erdoğan has explicitly stated that he is against gender equality, that abortion is murder, and that using contraception undermines the nation. This rhetoric influenced the official stance on reproductive rights, resulting in increasingly limited access to both contraception and preventive health measures such as the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine, alongside repeated attempts to restrict or criminalise abortion. This focus on traditional family values led to abolishing the term ‘gender equal

In Mexico, significant progress has been made in promoting gender equality. This includes the enactment of national laws, increased public funding for gender equality, and the strengthening of gender-focused institutions. Mexico has implemented key policies and legal frameworks to protect the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and more (LGBTQI+) individuals. Despite these advances, organisations operate in an environment that remains adverse for women and LGBTQI+ people, especially in the face of increased polarisation, neoliberalism, and austerity measures.
