Rimbaud's life and works have been the subject of numerous readings ever since the poet's first appearance on the literary scene. This thesis is an attempt to reconstitute the multiple layers of interpretations which were grafted onto Rimbaud's life and works between 1883 and 1935 approximately. Successive readings keep a text alive and, in so doing, function also as prefaces. The concept of "preface" is thus expanded here to include the critical text.<br>These strata consist of readings and commentaries influenced both by the historical and intellectual circumstances in which they were formed and by the progressive revelation of the text; added one to another without cancelling each other out, these layers continually enrich and transform the original, making both its meaning and its import denser, investing it with new significance and new values and thereby keeping it alive, in fact making it even more present with the passing of the years. Over the years, the focus of reflexion on Rimbaud has shifted from the study of his particular "case" to a more profound questioning, via Rimbaud, of poetry itself, its nature, its meaning, its scope. In the minds of the commentators, Rimbaud and poetry's destinies are intertwined; thus, they "read" them together as if the value and the meaning of the poetry's destiny were dependent on the destiny of Rimbaud.

L'analyse sémiostylistique que nous proposons dans le présent travail se situe dans le cadre d'un échange dialectique entre le texte et le lecteur, pour lire le texte de Rimbaud qui a été l'objet d'interprétations nombreuses et diverses, tenant à la nature des contenus de son œuvre. Nous avons divisé notre analyse en deux parties. Dans la première partie, consacrée à l'étude de la lecture sémantique, la perception de la lecture est fondée sur l'ensemble des signes dans le texte. Le travail de lecture comprend le point de vue critique qui consiste à décomposer chaque poème du début à la fin et à former des tableaux divisés en deux valeurs opposées, positive et négative, pour les deux actants, le "moi" et le "non-moi". La deuxième partie, dans laquelle nous procédons à une analyse fondée sur une lecture sémiotique, est divisée en deux chapitres. Le premier chapitre étudie les liens établissant entre les tableaux analysant l'ensemble des poèmes. Dans le second chapitre nous exposons de quelle manière la lecture sémiotique révèle une structure dialectique au sein des poèmes en vers par référence à la notion d'intertextualité : elle présente la permanence des caractéristiques éparpillées dans les poèmes. Notre travail sur les poèmes en vers chez Rimbaud est un travail de production dans la mesure ou une lecture productive permet de lire une structure dialectique, circulaire et progressive en déplaçant la question "que dit ce texte ?" en "comment ce texte dit ce qu'il dit ?"<br>The semio-stylistics analysis, which is developed in this work, stands within a dialectical relation between the text and its reader. It aims at a new reading of Rimbaud’s text which formed the subject of many and various interpretations, because of the nature of his work. Our analysis is divided in two parts. In the first one, the semantics reading is dealth with. This reading is grounded on all the signs in the text. The reading contains a critical approach which, from the start until the end, splits each poem and built charts divided in two opposite values, positive and negative, for the two actants the "self" and the "non self". In the second part, we present an analysis grounded on a semiotics reading. It contains two chapters. The first chapter points out the existing links between the charts which analyses all the poems. In the second chapter, we show how the semiotics reading points out the dialectical structure within the poems in verse, referring to the notion of the intertextuality. It brings up the permanent features scattered in all the poems. Our work on Rimbaud’s poems in verse, is a productive reading, because the semio-stylistics reading allows the reader to understand the dialectical, circular and progressive structure. It moves the issue from "what does the text say" to "how the text says what it says"

Cette thèse a pour but d’expliquer l’imagination du premier Rimbaud autour du "Cahier de Douai" - , en ayant recours a la méthode mythocritique élaborée par Gilbert Durand. La logique générale qui commande les oeuvres de Rimbaud - les "poésies", une saison en enfer et les illuminations – s’articulant suivant le schème initiatique de la "descencte aux enfers", notre mythocritique du premier Rimbaud se propose d’étudier l’organisation des images symboliques a la lumière du scénario initiatique qui se déroule sur le modèle de la candidature d’Apollon au statut de la divinité olympienne, et qui débouche sur le martyre de Prométhée sur le sommet du Caucase. Au-delà d’un travail thématique qui court le plus souvent le risque de forcer la logique des oeuvres a se soumettre a la logique de la critique, notre thèse s’impose une lecture aussi minutieuse que possible des oeuvres rimbaldiennes, afin d’éviter de dénaturer le champ sémantique de chaque texte<br>The aim of this thesis is to explane the first Rimbaud's imagination around "le cahier de Douai" - with the mythocritical method devised by Gilbert Durand. As the general logic of the Rimbaud's work - les "poésies", une saison en enfer and illuminations - is articulated as the initiation scheme -descensus and inferos -, our mythocritique of the first Rimbaud sets out to study the organization of the symbolic images in the light of the initiation scenario that develops on the pattern of the Apollo's candidacy for the olympic divine status, and that will lead to the Prometheus' destiny on the Caucassus. Beyond the thematic work submits so often the logic of the one author's imagination to the logic of the criticism, our thesis makes it a rule to read the Rimbaud's text as closely as possible to avold distoring the proper field of each poem

Les Illuminations sont souvent caractérisées par leur discontinuité : incohérence de surface, diversité de formes et de thèmes, aspect fragmenté de l'œuvre, représentation brisée de la vie, elles paraissent partagées entre les poussées libres de la parole et une sorte d'obsession du silence qui les retient. Au fond de cette "poésie éclatée", il y a pourtant la recherche d'une unité profonde de l'être, et d'une vigueur originale de l'univers, dégagées de la signification ancienne, éthique ou esthétique. Chaque écriture des Illuminations opère ou du moins suppose ce "dégagement rêve", et c'est là l'unité idéale du recueil. Ces poèmes, sous leur apparence fragmentaire, contiennent le rêve d'une vérité intégrale de l'être et de l'œuvre<br>The Illuminations are characterized often by their discontinuity: inconsistency of surface, diversity of the forms and themes, fragmented aspect of the work, broken representation of the life, they seem to be divided between the free forces of imagination and an obsession of the silence. However, at the bottom of this "burst poetry", there is a search for the unrelying unity of the being freed from all the old ethical or aesthetic signification. This search is not obvious, but constant, so as to conduct the whole work: each of the illuminations supposes, or even operates the "dreamed release", that is the ideal unity of the work. Cette recherche porte sur les expériences théâtrales menées à partir de l'œuvre ou de la vie d'Arthur Rimbaud. Le corpus comprend donc aussi bien des reconstitutions de la biographie du poète, que des adaptations pour la scène de ses poèmes. La danse et la musique sont également abordées. La période couverte s'étend de la fin du XIXe siècle jusqu'à l'année 2005. Un examen des rapports qu'entretient le texte rimbaldien avec la théâtralité est d'abord mené. Ce travail d'exégèse permet de dégager quelques pistes, pour comprendre les mécanismes qui sont à l'œuvre dans le transfert générique du texte poétique à l'objet théâtral. Dans cette deuxième étape, la réflexion s'articule autour de trois notions : interprétation, adaptation et traduction, dans leur rapport au théâtre et à la poésie. Enfin, il s'agit de cerner comment Rimbaud peut accéder au statut de personnage, et comment, par ce geste, les hommes de théâtre contribuent à l'édification de son mythe<br>The present research explores theatrical experiments attempted with Arthur Rimbaud's work or life. The corpus therefore includes both reconstructions of the poet's biography, and scenic adaptations of his poems. Dance and music are also taken into account. The period considered extends from the end of the nineteenth century to the year 2005. It starts with a survey of the connections between the Rimbaldian text and theatricality. Such an exegetical work opens new alleys into the understanding of the generic transfer from the poetical text to the drama. With that second step, three notions are dealt with : interpretation, adaptation and translation, in their relation to drama and poetry. Lastly, the study focuses on the question of Rimbaud's ability to reach character status, and how, through those attempts on the stage, theatre people contribute to the construction of his myth

En partant d'une analogie poético-épistémologique entre le parc d'attractions et l'œuvre de Rimbaud, nous avons effectué une analyse de cette dernière du point de vue de l'espace et du mouvement. Il s'est avéré que les illuminations, son ultime œuvre, nous montre un caractère net du parc d'attractions avec ses mouvements divers, surtout la giration, tandis que le reste de l'œuvre le prépare en passant de l'espace carcéral (prison) a l'espace ludique (parc d'attractions). Nous avons, d'autre part, examine ce passage du point de vue du regard. Tandis que l'écrasement du regard du moi par le regard puissant du monde est omniprésent jusqu'à une saison en enfer (panoptique), c'est l'éveil du regard des choses qui se généralise dans les illuminations (animisme mécanisme). Ce changement est essentiellement expliqué par un effondrement de l'épistème classique avec son art de la représentation. Cependant la notion du parc d'attractions recèle une ambiguïté importante en elle : il peut aussi être interprète comme dégénérescence utopique, dernier avatar de l'épistème classique ; ce qui nuancerait notre réflexion, mais il ne resterait pas moins un lieu symbolique, commun et privilégie pour penser notre monde contemporain et l'œuvre de Rimbaud<br>Starting with a poetic-epistemological analogy between the amusement park and rimbaud's works, we have made an analysis of the latter on the basis of space and movement. Illuminations, his ultimate work, shows the distinct character of an amusement park with its various movements, especially its gyration, while his ealier works approach this play space from a prison-like atmosphere. On the other hand we have examined this change from the perspective of sight. Whereas the crushing of one's sight by that of the strong world is omnipresent in his works up to une saison en enfer (panopticon), it is the awakening of sight that becomes widespread in illuminations (animism mechanism). This change is essentially explained by a collapse of the classical episteme and its art of representation. Nevertheless the notion of amusement park conceals an important ambiguity within: It can also be interpreted as a utopian degeneration, the last avatar of the classical episteme. Although this would nuance our reflection, the amusement park remains a common, privileged, and symbolic place to reflect on our contemporary world and on rimbaud's works

Dans sa conception moderne, l'idée d'énergie est née aux anvirons de 1770. Rimbaud est l'héritier de cette idée d'énergie et de plusieurs écrivains du XVIIIe siècle. Toutefois, l'approche rimbaldienne de l'énergie poétique prend surtout appui sur l'énergétique baudelairienne et n'est pas sans rapport avec certains aspects de la philosophie de Nietzsche. Une saison en enfer est une quête passionnée de l'énergie sous toutes ses formes. Néanmoins, dans Adieu, le narrateur plaide en faveur d'une modération des intensités et finit par renoncer à l'idée d'énergie, de manière fort énigmatique d'ailleurs. Une analyse des thèmes de l'œuvre mène à constater que certaines formules ne sauraient admettre une interprétation univoque, que les protagonistes de Délires I sont des personnages particulièrement complexes, que Délires II-Alchimie du Verbe n'est pas une palinodie. En outre, Une saison en enfer contient de manière latente l'ensemble des thèmes abordés dans les poèmes en prose des Illuminations
