Abstract:
Monetary risk measures are interpreted as the smallest amount of external cash that must be added to a financial position to make the position acceptable. In this paper, A new concept: non-cash risk measure is proposed and this measure provides an approach to transform the unacceptable positions into the acceptable positions in a nonconvex set. Non-cash risk measure uses not only cash but also other kinds of assets to adjust the position. This risk measure is nonconvex due to the use of optimization problem in L 1 norm. A convex extension of the nonconvex risk measure is derived and the relati

Abstract:
This paper draws upon current research to consider the value of the focus group method for exploring the relationships between youth, risk and social position. Groups comprising young people occupying similar social positions were used to generate talk about aspects of everyday life regarded as risk. Through the processes of conversational interaction facilitated by the focus group method, participants co-produced detailed risk narratives, understood here in Bourdieu's terms as product and producer of the habitus related to social position. Using data from several of the focus groups I illustr

The evolution of wireless communications systems has promoted various applications that require user positions in various environments including indoor, maritime and aerial environments. This progress has also brought advanced wireless location tracking (i.e., positioning) schemes for many purposes such as military, accident prevention and facility management. In this paper, we propose a risk-aware wireless positioning scheme, where the position information is required for safety. Especially for the maritime environment, we model the risk of the user at each position as a function of location

In order to reduce accident risk, highway authorities prioritise maintenance budgets partly based upon previous accident history. However, as accident rates have continued to fall in most contexts, this approach has become problematic as accident ‘black spots’ have been treated and the number of accidents at any individual site has fallen. Another way of identifying sites of higher accident risk might be to identify near-miss accidents (where an accident nearly happened, but was avoided), which are likely to be much more prolific than actual accidents, therefore they are useful in identifying

Sports medicine professionals are continuously attempting to keep the incidence of injuries down. One way to accomplish this is to employ preventive methods that identify athletes who are at a greater risk of becoming injured prior to the start of the athletic season. The Functional Movement Screenâ ¢ (FMS) is a screening method that attempts to identify those individuals at risk of sustaining injuries by determining deficits in athletes' mobility and stability. This is an area of great conflict because athletic injuries result from many factors, not only in mobility and stability weaknesses
