Abstract:

Blood Riveris an exploration of lineage and blood connection as families are made and remade over generations. The poems rise from the physical body, from birth, and again from death. The lyric is used as a mode of investigation as she writes to discover what it means to become a mother, what it means to be a daughter and wife, and finally what it means to remake the self in order to embody all that we are. The poems are born from the heart and explore the connections between us all.

La Llorona Don’t Swim The LA River is a collection of poems that explore the issues of growing up in East LA as a young, bilingual Chicana. These poems are an attempt to capture my experiences through story telling by blending Spanish, English, street slang, and the casual spoken diction. Cette étude propose de mettre en relation une pratique poétique propre à la communauté des pêcheurs du fleuve Sénégal, le Pékâne (Pekaan en poulâr) – en particulier l’une de ses composantes la moins connue, le Diârâlé (jaaraale en poulâr)- et un paysage : la vallée du Fleuve Sénégal. Le Pékâne est une poésie orale en poulâr chantée a capella par des Soubalbés, c’est-à-dire les pêcheurs du Fleuve Sénégal. Le Diârâlé est couramment défini comme de la poésie descriptive. Il s’agit d’une poésie ancrée dans un territoire local qui retrace l’itinéraire des poètes circulant au bord du fleuve Sénégal.

This dissertation provides a study of Michael Drayton’s Poly-Olbion (1612;1622), a loco-descriptive poem divided into two parts consisting of eighteenand twelve Songs, respectively, each one being prefaced by anengraved map. The verse describes the topography of the English and Welsh counties and the historical feats that took place in the locations in question: the ”narrators” are local landscape features, such as woodlands, forests, mountains and valleys, but mainly rivers. This paper attempts to recuperate certain early poems by John Ashbery that have typically been ignored or undervalued by critics. Ashbery’s second and third published volumes of poetry, The Tennis Court Oath and Rivers and Mountains, have been unfairly neglected by critics such as Harold Bloom and Helen Vendler.
