Abstract:
The San Pedro–Mezquital River Basin is located in the southern Sierra Madre Occidental, at the Nearctic– Neotropical transition. The river traverses the Sierra through a canyon that reaches over 1000 m in depth. Based on examination of museum specimens, literature records, and our own collections, we documented the occurrence of 120 species (24.6% of the Mexican terrestrial mammals), 24 endemic to Mexico. Richness was comparable with other megadiverse areas of Mexico, and higher than any other Nearctic–Neotropical transition area, moreover species richness is likely to rise as survey continues

Despite the prevalence of tilting, the transient fluvial response to tilting has not been quantified such that tectonic histories involving tilt can be extracted from river network forms. We used numerical landscape evolution models to characterize the transient erosional response of a river network initially at equilibrium to rapid tilting. We focus on the case of punctuated rigid-block tilting, though we explore longer-duration tilting events

Abstract:
Abstract We have analyzed seismograms of the 3 June 1932 (Ms = 8.2) and the 18 June 1932 (Ms = 7.8) Jalisco earthquakes and their aftershocks at Manzanillo (MNZ), Guadalajara (GUM), and Tacubaya (TAC). The aftershocks locations, the first motions at MNZ, and the isoseismic maps of the two main shocks strongly suggest that: (a) the 3 June 1932 earthquake initiated NW of but close to MNZ and propagated NW for an estimated length of rupture of 220 km; (b) the 18 June 1932 earthquake nucleated SW of MNZ (offshore) and perhaps ruptured a length of about 60 km; and (c) the width of rupture was appro

Abstract:

ABSTRACTXavier Guerrero (1896-1974) had an important role in the so-called Mexican Mural Renaissance, as a technical leader in the murals painted by Roberto Montenegro and Diego Rivera in the early 1920’s. Jean Charlot, Diego Rivera and David Alfaro Siqueiros considered him as a sophisticated fresco craftsman, whose knowledge came from a popular mural painters guild. In 1941 the Mexican Government donated a School to Chillan, a Chilean town almost destroyed by a strong earthquake. David Alfaro Siqueiros and Xavier Guerrero were commissioned to paint murals on the Mexico School. Between 1941-194
