Abstract:
Discrete burnable poisons like the Wet Annular Burnable Absorber and Pyrex have been used in PWR core to improve core power distribution and provide more negative moderator temperature coefficient. The burnable absorber in the burnable poison rods burns fast and is completely gone after one cycle exposure in the core. Traditionally, the burnable poison rods are designed to be part of the fuel assembly. They are burned together with the fuel in the first loading cycle and discharged after one cycle. In recent years, different insertion scenarios of the burnable poison rods have been introduced

Abstract:
The radial and axial power distribution in power reactors are determined mainly by the patterns of the fuel assembly and the burnable absorber at the beginning of cycle. In Advanced Pressurized Water Reactor (APWR), gadolinium burnable absorber is used to decrease the relative power of fresh fuel assemblies. In this paper, the effect of the axial distribution of gadolinium (Gd) on the power of the APWR assembly is studied. Three models of APWR assemblies are simulated using MCNP6 code. In the first model, UO2 fuel is distributed uniformly in all the fuel rods. In the other two models some of t

Abstract The paper focuses on the problem of optimising the cooperation between a dynamic vibration absorber (DVA) and a structure. The authors analyse a road beam bridge equipped with a working platform (deck) used to service pipelines installed on the structure. The paper studies the problem of choosing the optimal parameters for damping absorbers that reduce the random vibration of a beam subjected to a random sequence of moving forces with a constant velocity. The stochastic properties of the load are modelled by means of a filtering Poisson process. A single-degree-of-freedom (SDOF) absor

The performance of the spectral shift control (SSC) method is evaluated and compared to the conventional poison method in the VVER-1000 fuel assembly design. The SSC method can be implemented by gradually adjusting the ratio of heavy water to light water moderator (D2O/H2O) during the fuel cycle. In this study, the efficiency of using the SSC design with or without a thermal absorber (gadolinium) is investigated. We apply the SSC with both 12 burnable absorber rods containing 4.0 wt.% Gd2O3 (Case 1) and without Gd2O3 (Case 2). The neutronic calculations indicate that the discharge burnup is en

In a regenerative air sweeper, airflow and dust particles entering the system are filtered and recirculated within the system. The uncirculated portion of the exhaust air in the system spreads to the ambient air, and PM2.5 dust in the air can poison the environment and adversely affect human health. The development of an airflow control system to reduce road dust emissions and improve air quality was the main contribution of this study. A regenerative air sweeper airflow control system is designed to direct the air from the centrifugal fan back into the pickup head to fully absorb the dust par

Many food crops have the potential to absorb substantial amounts of heavy metals while thriving in contaminated soil. Wastewater irrigation, excessive use of agrochemicals, air deposits and other anthropogenic activities stirring excessively around the Jakara River continue to stock the soil in the vicinity of the river with poisonous heavy metals. The food crops produced along the river remain the vehicle for transmitting those heavy metals to humans. The objective of the research is to determine the effect of season and location on the concentrations of Pb, Cd, Ni, Co, Cr and Hg in the soil

Abstract LOTUS reactor core is a small modular lead-cooled fast reactor with designed power of 200 MWth under development at VNU University of Science, Hanoi for a floating nuclear power plant application. For that purpose, advanced passive safety features and no refuelling requirement are the priorities in the core design process. To endure the continuous operation over a long lifetime, the start-up core exhibits excess reactivity to cover the reactivity loss due to burnup.
