Abstract:

Článek sleduje různé podoby transnacionalismu v prostředí sportovních arén, a to v současných i historických kontextech. Hlavním teoreticko-kritickým cílem je přispět k precizaci a zvýšení analytické užitečnosti konceptu transnacionalismu. Transnacionalismus je odlišen nejen od globalizace a jejích derivátů, ale také (a speciálně) od "internacionality". Napětí uvnitř transnacionálního leží mezi dvěma (zřídka i více) pociťovanými či vyjadřovanými alternativními národně definovanými příslušnostmi či identitami, zatímco v internacionálním je tenze situována mezi národní a nadnárodní prostředí. Nacionalismus tak hraje důležitou a nenahraditelnou roli při konstituci transnacionální situace a zkušenosti. Empirické příklady jsou převzaty z různých sportů, avšak primární referenční bod tvoří fotbal. K sociologickému výkladu transnacionální zkušenosti (nejen ve sportu) je využito historické i fenomenologické perspektivy. Transnacionální zkušenost je zasazena do kontextu mezinárodní sportovní migrace ve stále propojenějším globalizovaném světě.

Abstract:

Abstract Background There is a lack of data on environmental surface contamination in long-term care facilities (LTCF), despite multiple reports of outbreaks of multi-drug-resistant organisms in these settings. Therefore, we conducted a quantitative analysis of the microbial burden and prevalence of epidemiologically important pathogens (EIP) found on LTCF environmental surfaces. Methods Microbiological samples were collected using Rodac plates from resident rooms and common areas in five LTCFs. At each facility, five samples from up to 10 different available environmental surfaces were collected from a room of a resident reported to be colonized with EIP, as well as from a room of a resident reported to be non-colonized. In addition, five samples from up to 10 different environmental surfaces were collected from two common areas in the facility. EIPs were defined as MRSA, VRE, C. difficile and multi-drug-resistant Gram negative bacilli. Data were analyzed for each environmental site sampled in a resident room or common area based on total bacterial colony forming units (CFU), mean CFU per Rodac, total EIP by site, and mean EIP counts per Rodac. Results The below table summarizes total EIP recovered from environmental sites by reported EIP colonization status of the resident. Rooms of residents with reported colonization had much greater EIP counts per Rodac (8.32, 95% CI 8.05, 8.60) than rooms of non-colonized residents (0.78, 95% CI 0.70, 0.86). MRSA was the most common EIP recovered from Rodacs, followed by C. difficile. Very few EIPs were recovered from the common areas sampled at these LTCFs. Conclusion We found varying levels of CFU and EIP on environmental sites at LTCFs. Colonization status of a resident was a strong predictor of higher levels of EIP being recovered from his/her room. Abstract:

Surface bacteria on skinned and scalded pork carcasses were evaluated using three different techniques: moist-swab contact (swab method), direct agar contact (Rodac method) and mylar adhesive tape (mylar method). The objective of this study was to investigate the feasibility of using one of the less expensive and quicker techniques as a tool for estimating microbial loads. Thirty-six pork carcasses were evaluated for surface contamination at four locations: ham, loin, shoulder and inside the thoracic cavity. Statistical analysis utilized the log10 of the number of observations per cm2. For all four locations evaluated, there was a difference (P&lt;0.05) between the swab and Rodac method. A significant difference was also observed between the swab and mylar methods; however, there was no significant difference between the Rodac and the mylar methods. The correlation coefficients between methods were: swab vs. Rodac (0.43), swab vs. mylar (0.46), and Rodac vs. mylar (0.62). These data suggest that the use of mylar adhesive tape is a good alternative method for estimating surface bacterial loads.

Abstract:

We compared the Rodac imprint technique to selective enrichment broth for detecting vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE) and multidrug-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (MDRE) on surfaces. Rodac plates contained tryptic soy agar with 5% sheep blood, vancomycin (6 μg/ml), ceftazidime (2 μg/ml), amphotericin B (2 μg/ml), and clindamycin (1 μg/ml). Two types of broth were used: brain heart infusion (BHI) and BHI plus vancomycin (6 μg/ml) and ceftazidime (2 μg/ml) (BHIVC). Of the 46 surfaces cultured for VRE, 12 (26%) were positive. Of the 12 VRE-positive surfaces, 11 (92%) grew from Rodac, 8 (67%) grew from BHIVC, and 7 (58%) grew from BHI. A larger study is needed for MDRE, as only 4 of 43 surfaces were MDRE positive. The Rodac imprint technique successfully recovered VRE from environmental surfaces.

Abstract:

La música folklórica de Bulgaria es reconocida internacionalmente. Las “voces búlgaras” son admiradas mundialmente. Lo menos conocido es la variedad de la que dispone el folclore de este pequeño país balcánico. Este artículo expone los resultados de una investigación cuyo objetivo fue recopilar información sobre las diferentes regiones folclóricas de Bulgaria: Shopska, Trakiia, Rodopi, Pirin, Severniashka y Dobrudja. Se hace un análisis de los ritmos regulares e irregulares y melodías en cuanto a modos, intervalos y cadencias. La investigación se completa tratando la temática y el carácter de las canciones, instrumentos, bailes, vestimenta, costumbres y ritos. Se observa mucha diferencia entre algunas regiones colindantes como por ejemplo la región Pirin que se caracteriza con el canto a dos voces y Rodopi, totalmente monódica.

Abstract:

La investigación se basó en el estudio del aprendizaje significativo Ausubel, aplicando las técnicas de escritura de Rodari. Los términos producción literaria, y proceso creativo, no son muy conocidos en los ambientes escolares. La investigación tuvo como objetivo el análisis de la influencia del aprendizaje significativo de Ausubel (1963) en el desarrollo de las técnicas de escritura de Rodari (1999) con los estudiantes de primer semestre de Comunicación Social - Universidad de Pamplona. Para tal efecto se realizó una revisión bibliográfica sobre los aspectos relevantes de la teoría estudiada, así como de los trabajos en el ámbito internacional, nacional y regional, los cuales fueron de gran utilidad para el diseño metodológico, el planteamiento de la estrategia y el análisis de los resultados. El tipo de investigación fue cualitativo con el método fenomenológico, esta investigación inicia con una etapa de diagnóstico donde se logró establecer una población de estudio tenía conceptos errados sobre creación literaria, prejuicios a la hora de escribir que les impedían generar un proceso creativo. Luego de aplicar las técnicas de recolección de información, de hacer el análisis de las categorías se llegó a la conclusión que la implementación de estrategias pedagógicas del aprendizaje significativo en las técnicas de creación de G. Rodari permite construcción de conocimientos y desarrollo de habilidades de escritura literaria en el estudiante donde este desarrolla un aprendizaje en construcción de textos a través del manejo de técnicas que potencian la creatividad.

Abstract:

Cel badań. Celem badania było sprawdzenie, czy możliwe jest wystąpienie zjawiska przyjaźni w relacji dziecko – dorosły, i określenie jej kluczowych determinant. Metodologia. Badaniu poddanych zostało 5 dzieci – uczniów edukacji wczesnoszkolnej, którzy korzystali z pomocy i wsparcia tej samej korepetytorki. W związku z powyższym badanie przeprowadzono w oparciu o wnikliwe studia indywidualnych przypadków, które zostały poddane porównaniu. W badaniu wzięto pod uwagę również analizę dokumentów, obserwację i wywiad. Wyniki i wnioski. Badania wykazały, iż kluczową determinantą występowania zjawiska przyjaźni jest indywidualny zbiór cech osobowościowych zarówno dziecka, jak i osoby dorosłej. Co więcej, przeprowadzone badania wykazały, iż znaczący wpływ na jakość relacji dziecko – dorosły, dorosły – dziecko ma relacja dziecko – rodzic, rodzic – dziecko oraz sytuacja rodzinna dziecka. Tym samym badania wykazały, iż to, czy między dzieckiem a dorosłym dojdzie do relacji opartej na zjawisku przyjaźni, zależne jest głównie od dziecka.

Abstract:

Teoretická stať se zabývá otázkou prodlužování soužití dospělých dětí se svými rodiči jako jedním z indikátorů prodlužování samotné tranzice k dospělosti, a tak také možnému odkládání dalších dílčích kroků v tranzici k dospělosti - jako je manželství či plození dětí. Ve spojení s dlouhotrvajícím soužitím s rodiči se vynořují termíny jako italští „mamma boys“, „parasite singles“, „co-residing adults“, „twixters“ či „hikikomori“ v Japonsku, kde je termín spojen se sociální izolací a stává se sociálním problémem. Stať poukazuje na neexistenci univerzálního vzorce načasování odchodů dětí z domácností rodičů, ale na podstatné rozdíly mezi regiony a sociální a kulturní podmíněnost. Text se soustředí na modely tranzice k dospělosti a s ní související vzorce opouštění domácnosti rodičů, kde na jedné straně stojí model brzký (severský) a pozdní (jižní). Sleduje jejich hlavní rysy, které mohou pomoci osvětlit důvody prodlužování tranzice k dospělosti.

Abstract:

Within the influence of Gramsci’s pedagogical model in the work of Gianni Rodari, this article examines the novel Piccoli vagabondi (Small vagabonds) (1952-1953), a unicum in the author’s production of Grammatica della fantasia (The Grammar of Fantasy), as it is characterized by neorealistic themes and by a communicative style that uses “proletarian” rhetoric, progressive vision and utopian elements. After mentioning the national issue of the non-existence of children’s literature (which Gramsci mentions in his essays on popular literature) and the neorealistic traits present in Rodari, the paper enters more directly into the merit of the neorealist novel, which presents itself as a document of the pedagogical effort (even contradictory) made by the Partito Comunista Italiano (Italian Communist Party) in the political climate of the “cold war” and as a testimony to the origin of the author’s search to reconcile realism with fantasy, dream and invention.

Abstract:

In order to understand Gianni Rodariʼs originality one must retrace his biography and his work, and take into account that he was proudly a factious man, a politically committed journalist and an expression of primordial Italian post-war left-wing culture. An essential ingredient of his poetry is, therefore, that civil passion that always inspired him. Due to such ‘passionʼ that appears clearly in the first phase of his production, his work was initially opposed by conservatives, clerics and the left-wing party itself. It was the 1950s ‘quando Rodari era il diavoloʼ and even comic strips were considered misguiding and immoral from the point of view of the Communist leaders, as well as the Pope and the Democrats. Rodari tried to change that and, countering Nilde Jotti and Palmiro Togliatti, claimed that comics had the power to conquer a new expressive autonomy useful for spreading progressive ideas among the masses.

En este artículo analizo las referencias a la introducción del telégrafo en dos libros de musar del siglo XIX publicados en ladino: el Pele Yo 'éŝ, cuyo versión judeoespañola preparó Yeudá Papo, y el Séfer Ki źe kol haadam, de Ben-Ŝiyón Binyamín Rodeti. Los pasajes nos permiten estudiar cómo entendieron estos dos rabinos sefardíes el tiempo presente y el futuro, así como los cambios en un período de avances técnicos y transformaciones sociales como los que se produjeron en el Imperio Otomano del siglo XIX. Podemos distinguir dos tendencias. Mientras que el libro de Papo anuncia importantes transformaciones semánticas en el entendimiento del tiempo -aunque él mismo nunca sale del margen de la tradición rabínica-, Ben-Ŝiyón Rodeti descarta que haya cambios y afirma que todo ya se ha dicho en la tradición literaria rabínica y que los tiempos actuales no cuestionan ni pueden cuestionar esta tradición.

Artykuł dotyczy analizy problemów podmiotowości we wczesnej edukacji dziecka. Zagadnienia te, ujęte w perspektywie pedagogicznej, są w opracowaniu tym zogniskowane do procesu wychowania dziecka w rodzinie. Przyjęty kontekst osobowych relacji pomiędzy naturalnymi podmiotami jakim jest rodzic i jego dziecko eksponuje potrzebę interdyscyplinarnej (w tym socjologicznej, pedagogicznej, antropologicznej) refleksji nad rolą „wspólnoty” i „doświadczania siebie” w społecznej praktyce edukacji. Takimi „doświadczającymi siebie” kompetentnymi podmiotami są dziecko i jego rodzic, który często pełni rolę pierwszego nauczyciela. Dlatego mówiąc o rodzicu i pedagogicznym uzasadnieniu jego wychowawczych oddziaływań coraz częściej widzimy w nim rolę także „kompetentnego nauczyciela” dziecka, tłumacza codziennych zdarzeń, ale też i współuczestnika wzajemnych interakcji, które oba te podmioty generują i jakim sami na co dzień są poddawani. Wiedza o procesie edukacji dziecka i rozwoju jego integralnej osobowości staje się wytwarzana właśnie poprzez interpretację wzajemnych doświadczeń i podzielanie wspólnej uwagi o wzorach, potrzebach i komunikacji w na co dzień przeżywanym świecie.

Rodzice, zgodnie z przepisami Kodeksu rodzinnego i opiekuńczego, są odpowiedzialni za opiekę nad dzieckiem, aż do pełnoletniości. Rodzice nie zawsze jednak wywiązują się ze swoich obowiązków związanych z zadaniami opiekuńczo-wychowawczymi względem dziecka w sposób właściwy, np. doprowadzają do zaniedbań, pozostawiają dziecko bez właściwej opieki. W konsekwencji mogą ponieść odpowiedzialność karną za narażenie dziecka na niebezpieczeństwo lub porzucenie. Rodzice ponoszą odpowiedzialność za dziecko aż do ukończenia przez nie 18 roku życia. Są jednak sytuacje gdy rodzic pozostawia samo dziecko w domu np. na chwilę gdy wyrzuca śmieci, idzie do piwnicy, czy lokalnego sklepu. Zdarza się, że dziecko zostaje samo pomiędzy gdy jeden z rodziców wyszedł już do pracy a drugi nie zdążył jeszcze wrócić. . Rodzic jednak powinien kierować się rozsądkiem, brać pod uwagę dojrzałość i rozwój umysłowy swojego dziecka. Przede wszystkim rodzice powinni rozmawiać z dziećmi i wyjaśniać im sytuacje, które mogą stanowić zagrożenie, oraz to jak powinny się zachować w sytuacji kryzysowej np. pożar, jaki jest numer telefonu do służb ratunkowych.

Geodiversity Audit is an inventory and assessment process, wich represents the basis for elaborating the Geoconservation Action Plan. The geodiversity includes the abiotic factors (rocks, minerals, soils, landforms) that sustain the life on the Earth, and owns economic, social, environmental, tourist and educational functions. This study proposes an audit of geodiversity from Gersa catcment area and an Action Plan for future planning and tourist valorization projects by local and county authorities. Gersa Valley is a geomorphological subunit located in the southern part of Rodnei Mountains (Bistrița-Năsăud County) and contains in the superior sector some landforms with high degree of attractiveness, such as Izvorul Tăușoarelor Cave, Izvorul Calului Gorge and Bârlea Massif. By their configuration these landforms has a great potential for engaging in scientific and recreational activities (caving, hiking, gorge walking, canyoning, mountain biking). Abstract Background Microbial contamination of the patient environment has been associated with healthcare-associated infections. Objective assessment of environmental cleanliness is recommended by the CDC to identify improvement opportunities. Methods currently used to assess cleanliness and microbial dynamics differ in their sensitivity, specificity, cost, ease of use, and turnaround time. We compared five assessment methods to examine these characteristics. Methods The bedrail, overbed table, remote control, and toilet seat in occupied patient rooms were sampled and assessed with: adenosine triphosphate (ATP) luminescence technology (LT), Replicate Organism Detection And Counting (RODAC) plates, C diff Banana Broth™ (CDBB), conventional aerobic culture (CC) and antimicrobial susceptibility testing, and shotgun next-generation sequencing (NGS) and analysis using metagenomic software. Results One hundred forty surfaces from 35 rooms were sampled. Of 70 surfaces sampled by both ATP LT and RODAC, 42 (60%) had concordant “pass” or “fail” results. Of 28 discordant samples, 26 (93%) passed by RODAC but failed by ATP LT. CDBB testing identified Clostridioides difficile on two surfaces in one room; C. difficile was also identified by NGS in this room. NGS had 100% concordance with organisms identified by CC, and identified approximately 20 additional organisms not identified by CC per surface. 38% of organisms identified by NGS were potential pathogens, compared with 13% through CC. No correlations were found between the primary quantitative assessments (RODAC bacterial concentrations and ATP LT ATP concentrations) and quantitative components of CC (presence/absence of organisms) and NGS (read numbers). Conclusion ATP LT and RODAC plates both provide useful quantitative cleanliness data, although high ATP values did not always indicate the The presence of viable aerobic bacteria. CDBB may be a useful method for identifying C. difficile in the environment, but larger studies of the performance characteristics of CDBB are needed. CC and NGS provided useful organism identification information, but NGS had higher sensitivity for detecting potentially pathogenic organisms. The clinical implications of NGS results must be further studied and cost and technical expertise are important considerations. Disclosures N. B. Abstract Objectives Recently, it was shown that the Regional Oral Dryness Inventory (RODI) could determine differences in dry-mouth perception at different intra-oral locations. The main aim of this study was to determine whether the RODI might help to discriminate between various causes of oral dryness in dry-mouth patients. The second aim was to ascertain whether the RODI could become an additional diagnostic tool in dry-mouth patients. Materials and methods Data were collected retrospectively from patients who visited a specialized saliva clinic. Salivary flow rates, Xerostomia Inventory scores, and RODI scores were extracted from the medical records. Patients were stratified into subgroups according to their health status. Results Five hundred twenty-eight patients participated in this study (mean age of 59.6 ± 16.0 years; 68.4% female). Specific patient groups differed with regard to the region of the mouth they experienced as the most and least dry. The posterior palate was the area perceived as most dry by controls and Sjögren patients. In patients using limited or multiple medications, it was the anterior tongue. RODI scores also differed significantly among dry-mouth patient groups: whereas controls and patients using limited medication had the lowest RODI scores and experienced less intra-oral dryness, Sjögren patients had the highest RODI scores. Conclusion Our use of the RODI questionnaire showed that perceived intra-oral dryness differed between the various dry-mouth patients. Clinical relevance The RODI can be a valuable clinical diagnostic tool in dry-mouth diagnostics, in which it can be used to discriminate between the various causes of oral dryness in patients.

Since the introduction of antineoplastic agents in the 1940s, there have been reports of the effects of these agents on workers who have had prolonged contact with them. The Regional Oncology Drug Information Center (RODIC) at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center receives numerous inquiries nationwide regarding our policies and procedures for handling antineoplastic agents. In August 1987, RODIC conducted a computerized literature search on the handling of antineoplastic agents and the risks to hospital employees coming in contact with these agents. We used the MEDLINE system from 1966 to the present, limiting the search to English-language articles. This article provides a comprehensive bibliography on the handling of antineoplastic agents.

The contribution of sprouts to the long-term survival of Chlorocardium rodiei, following logging was investigated. Differently aged sprout populations on cut stumps were surveyed to determine the numbers of sprouts produced, probability of survival and growth rates. Fifty-five to 70% of the stumps produced sprouts. The proportion of stumps that sprouted was lower for the hollow stumps than for the intact ones and the number of sprouts produced per stump was reduced. No significant correlation was found between stump diameter and the number of sprouts. Some sprouts survived for at least 15 y (usually one per stump), and these had a significantly larger average diameter relative to the sprouts at younger sites. The number of sprouts and the diameter of the largest sprout showed a significant positive correlation, suggesting that the maintenance of the inherited stump root system is shared among the sprouts so that the costs per sprout are reduced. We conclude that sprouting on cut stumps may have the potential to contribute to the maintenance of C. rodiei in the canopy at logged sites.

Reklame su jedan od najraširenijih oblika medijskih i kulturnih proizvoda, kojima smo svjesno ili nesvjesno izloženi svakodnevno. Moderna oglašivačka industrija postala je središnja institucija tržišno-industrijske ekonomije na koju se godišnje potroši više stotina milijardi dolara. Stručnjaci za medije slažu se da je učinak oglašavanja na stavove, ponašanje i emocije vrlo snažan, osobito kada se radi o djeci i mladima. Trend je da reklame rijetko prikazuju prednosti proizvoda čiju prodaju pokušavaju potaknuti, a sve više nameću određene životne stilove koje mladi usvajaju kao dio njihovih identiteta i obrazaca ponašanja. To se prvenstveno odnosi na rodne stereotipe i nerealne prikaze ženskih i muških tijela kao glavnih komponenti oglašavanja. Posebno je važno pitanje posljedica česte izloženosti rodnim stereotipima u oglašavanju na psihosocijalnoj i socijalnoj razini. Kako bi se smanjili negativni učinci reklama, potrebno je djelovati na više razina. Društvena razina uključuje provođenje odgovorne medijske politike i definiranje etičkih standarda u oglašavanju. Na individualnoj razini, roditelji i nastavnici trebaju preuzeti odgovornost za razvijanje medijske pismenosti djece i mladih.

Gender disparity is present in the field of engineering and more broadly STEM disciplines (science, technology, engineering and mathematics). Statistical data on the enrollment in one of technical faculties in the Republic of Serbia over three decades illustrate this phenomenon, and there is a similar situation everywhere in the world. The negative effects of the under-representation of women in these areas on society and the economy have been recognized and a number of measures have been taken to mitigate them. With rapid technological changes, information technology development and the fourth industrial revolution, the labor market is changing and the global demand for STEM professions is growing. This paper discusses the impact that these technological changes may have on the existing disparity between women and men in the mentioned areas.

Objectives. Studies have evaluated the association of galectin-3 and outcome in patients with heart failure. However, there is still scarce evidence concerning the clinical usefulness and predictive value of galectin-3 for left ventricular reverse remodeling (LVRR) in patients with recent-onset dilated cardiomyopathy (RODCM). Patients and Methods. Baseline galectin-3 was measured in 57 patients with RODCM. All patients were followed for at least 12 months. The study end point was LVRR at 12 months, defined as an absolute improvement of the left ventricular ejection fraction of ≥10% to a final value of ≥35%, accompanied by a decrease in the left ventricular end diastolic diameter of at least 10%, as assessed by echocardiography. In receiver operating characteristic curve analysis, the optimum cut-off value for baseline galectin-3 with the highest Youden index was 59 ng/ml. Results. Overall, LVRR at 12 months was observed in 38 patients (66%). In a univariate analysis, NYHA functional class and baseline galectin-3 levels were associated with LVRR. After adjustment for covariates, galectin-3 remained an independent predictor for LVRR. Conclusions. Our study suggests that baseline galectin-3 is an independent predictor of LVRR. Low levels of galectin-3 may be regarded a useful biomarker of favorable ventricular remodeling in patients with RODCM.

Robotic guided medical system requires efficient mechanism of compression of Region of Diagnostics Interest (RODI) in medical images to overcome the tradeoff among efficiency and time which is a computationally challenging task. This task involves the requirement of suitable noise filtering, segmentation, critical feature selection especially at corners of RODI and encoding process. This paper proposes a framework namely ICRODI to evaluate a hybrid approach of compression for region of diagnostic interest in Brain MRI as well as for rest of the region. The approaches used are median filter, thresholding as pre-processing and fuzzy c-mean clustering, Harris corner detection, s-shape fuzzy for segmentation and feature point selection optimization. Further alpha hull of the convex hull is used for getting the volume of the mass and finally the wavelet co-efficient based compression is applied. The effectiveness of the proposed ICRODI is validated by evaluating MSE and PSNR for both RODI and Non-ROSI. The average value of the PSRN for RODI is found approximately 49 % higher as compared to the non-RODI and MSE of the RODI is reduced by approximately 33% as compared to the non-RODI after simulating the process on a numerical simulation platform. The achieved results are quite promising and could be optimized for the VLSI implementation in future.

Scharakteryzowano też informacje udzielane przez specjalist w oraz udział specjalist w w planowaniu programu terapeutycznego. Opisano proces terapeutyczny – sposoby i strategie programu Step+. Szczeg łowo zostały om wione podstawowe kroki programu Step+. R wnocześnie zwr cono uwagę na rolę logopedy w procesie terapeutycznym. Określone zostały czynności, jakie są podejmowane przez logopedę w procesie terapeutycznym. Artykuł zawiera informacje o procesie rozszerzania diety u dzieci z ASD wraz z praktycznymi wskaz wkami dla rodzic w i terapeut w, propozycje działań terapeutycznych (zabaw lub codziennych czynności), kt re mogą wspom c dziecko w terapii karmienia. Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie problematyki zaburzeń czynności jedzenia w ASD oraz ukazanie strategii terapeutycznych. Opisane sposoby terapii zaburzeń pokarmowych powstały na podstawie programu Step+. Zaproponowane są konkretne strategie, kt re mogą być zastosowane przez terapeut w oraz wprowadzone przez rodzic w.

In order to investigate the role of the parameter space on the third law of thermodynamics, we have checked the validity intervals of the Borges–Roditi, Abe and Sharma–Mittal entropies in the framework of the third law of thermodynamics. The two-parameter Borges–Roditi entropy conforms to the third law for a [Formula: see text] 1, 0 [Formula: see text] b [Formula: see text] 1 or b [Formula: see text] 1, 0 [Formula: see text] a [Formula: see text] 1 due to its a [Formula: see text] b symmetry, while the Abe entropy satisfies the third law in the interval [Formula: see text] [Formula: see text] 1 or [Formula: see text]. Since the validity interval of the single-parameter Abe entropy can be fully recovered from the two-parameter Borges–Roditi entropy, we note that the third law is immune to the reduction of the parameters in this particular case. The Sharma–Mittal entropy, in this same context, is valid in the interval 0 [Formula: see text] q [Formula: see text] 1, whereas its second parameter r can take any real values without restriction. The interval 0 [Formula: see text] q [Formula: see text] 1 is the intersection of the Sharma–Mittal entropy with its reduced expressions, i.e., the Tsallis and Rényi entropies from the third law perspective. This implies that the additional parameter r of the Sharma–Mittal entropy indeed renders it more generalized compared to the one-parameter Rényi and Tsallis entropies when validated by the third law of thermodynamics. Therefore, based on these observations, we deduce that an additional parameter can extend the interval of validity of the third law for a particular generalized entropy only when this additional parameter is not confined by reduction to some other generalized entropy definitions. We also check our theoretical results by using the one-dimensional Ising model with periodic boundary conditions under zero external field.

Rodopi, and on early August 2012 the lucanid beetle Sinodendron cylindricum (L.) (Coleoptera: Lucanidae) was found on Mt. Falakron, in N. Greece.
