Using cross-sectional and longitudinal data from EU-SILC for the Czech Republic this thesis shows that mothers suffer wage penalty, whereas fathers gain wage premium. These results are in accordance with literature abroad. This thesis also shows that parenthood has greater impact on individuals with higher education, that motherhood penalty is lower for single mothers, whereas fatherhood premium is higher for single fathers, and that there is stronger self-selection of mothers into specific jobs than in case of fathers. Model of fixed effects suggests that parenthood is connected with unobservable characteristics that have positive effect on parent's wages. Results of this thesis are in accordance with human capital theory, division of labor within the household, self-selection of mothers into more mother-friendly jobs. But results concerning lower work effort of mothers are inconclusive.

This thesis deals with the relation between marriage and parenthood in the Czech Republic. The main object is to explore changes in the family behavior of young generations and to analyze the related demographic processes of fertility and nuptality. Special attention is paid to marital, extramarital and premarital fertility. The thesis searches for the answer of the question if the marital surroundings are still unique for the child upbringing or if the economic and value changes of the society after 1989 broke the traditional family formation. Another important object is to perform a cluster analysis. Czech districts are divided into the clusters, which are made to describe the current situation. The last part demonstrates the results of the quantitative survey, which helps to find out the public attitudes about family life.

The dissertation addresses the issue of the relationship of parenthood, employment and economic inactivity of childcare holders. It focuses on the mother's motivation to work (mothers taking care of children under 3 years of age) in the context of Czech social policy measures. The aim of the thesis is establish proposals for measures that would encourage the motivation of women with children up to 3 years to return to work and simultaneously quantify the impact of these measures on the state budget. This dissertation builds up on the underlying studies (Jahoda, Šinkyříková, 2011; Kalíšková, 2012). These studies deal mainly with examining implemented reforms in the view of their support to women's employment and their effects on household incomes. The decision making of mothers about their involvement in the labour market was analyzed by indicator of Effective cost of return to work. Negative net financial effect of returning to work was found independently of the region and the extent of the examined working time of women, taking care of children up to 2 years. For mothers taking care of children from 2 to 3 years old was this negative net financial effect detected only partly. This result clearly demonstrates that mothers, taking care of children below 3 years of age, entering the labour market are confronted with very high additional costs that would not be covered by their income from employment and other received benefits. Estimated amount of potential wages, which would encourage women to return to work, reach in some cases up to four times the median wage of women in the region. Given these findings, this dissertation proposes several specific social policy measures, which would support the mother's incentives to work return. Economic effects of the proposed measures were quantified, including the cancelation of conditional entitlement to parental benefit, introduction of tax relief for working mothers and 50% relief on employer's mandatory contributions, which employ parents part-time. Implementation of these measures, which would motivate more women to return to work, would bring an estimated net income effect for the state budget amounting to 9.5 billion crowns per year.

It aims to recommend most appropriate ways that non-governmental organizations can adopt in order to introduce family planning as a cross-cutting issue in their development programmes in rural regions of Ethiopia. This is to ensure that women and men have the possibility to make free and informed choices on their childbearing preferences and exercise family planning. In order to identify the most suitable approaches, methods and strategies for family planning mainstreaming, the thesis determines the most significant determinants and factors that affect the childbearing preferences and identify those that can be addressed by family planning mainstreaming. The thesis bases its theoretical framework on the Amartya Sen's Capabilites approach to human development. The second part of the thesis is dedicated to Ethiopia Case Study.

Determination of Parenthood Determination of parenthood is very actual topic due to the constant changes of the traditional understanding of the family and family relationships. It is primarily the development of modern medical science, biology or genetics that has brought new concepts into the issue of determination of parenthood. For example surrogacy, assisted reproduction or baby boxes. The legislation must responds to these changes in order to stabilized family relationships and to ensure their protection. At present, this issue is becoming more and more topical due to current diversion from traditional values, the traditional model of family in particular. The thesis concerns not only with the determination of paternity, but also with maternity determination, which is mentioned with regard to assisted reproduction and surrogacy. Emphasis is placed on both, current legislation and the new Civil Code coming into effect on 1 January 2014. The thesis is divided into eight chapters. The introduction discusses possible views on the concept of parenthood. Furthermore, it introduces the issue of parentage determination, especially in connection with the increasing number of children born outside marriage. The following chapter is devoted to legislative regulation of parentage determination itself. Establishing parentage The subject of this master thesis is the issue of establishing parentage. The thesis targets areas of establishing parenthood, issues of three legal presumptions and last but not least, parenthood denial. The question of establishing maternity is examined mainly from perspectives including surrogate maternity, assisted reproduction method and secret and anonymous delivery. All matters are reviewed based on the valid amendment to Act No. 89/2012 Coll., the Civil Code that has come into effect on 1.1.2014. The goal of the thesis is it to introduce, describe and analyze the new amendment to the Family Act. The goal of the thesis was to find juridical legislation that could be applied by legal institutions in the Czech Republic, and have been neither legally controlled nor properly spoken through. This thesis follows an issue of gender sensitive parentage. In particular to parents who decided to educate their kids gender sensitively. In the first part it introduces theories of gender socialization and acquiring of gender identity. Further it introduces socialization in family and, in relation it, several social factors. It tries to approach this issue through gender sensitive education. This thesis also takes a deep look to existing approaches and researches of gender sensitive education. The research part of the thesis is based on qualitative analysis of interviews with parents who are trying to educate gender sensitively. This analysis detects how these parents comprehend gender sensitive education, how they make it work, what strategies they bring up, to what situations they get while following this education program and what obstacles they face up. The goal of this dissertation is to transmit the living experience of people who try to educate their children gender sensitively and contribute the development of possibilities allowing free progression to their kids.

The purpose of this thesis is to analyze the legal pre-conditions for parenthood. These are objectively understood as a set of provisions, which give us the answer, who are the legal parents of a child. These provisions are motivated by an effort to harmonize legal parenthood with biological. They are a source of important statutory rights of an individual, which to some extent determine his/her legal status from the very birth. With statutory rights are subsequently firmly bound public legal consequences. These are mainly a relationship between the individual and the state, in particular the obligation to register a child in the state-led civil registration, and also the acquisition of the citizenship. The relationship of parent and child can be considered as basic and most important personal relationship ever. As a result, various rights and duties arise of this relationship, and therefore the need to regulate such relations by the law has appeared with the evolution of human society, so they were build on a solid basis without being disputed. The aim of the thesis is to analyze and evaluate current Czech legislation and put it into international context. To attain this aim, this thesis uses three different approaches. Firstly it provides conclusions of conterporary social sciences in the field of parenthood of same-sex couples and impacts of homosexual parenting onto various areas of psychological and social adjustment od children. Secondly, the comparative study of czech legislation and legislations of Norway, United Kingdom, Germany and Slovakia is included. Thirdly, relevant cases decided by European Court of Human Rights are analyzed. Upon the findings provided by these analysis, the thesis evaluate suitability of czech legal regulation and propose possible future development in this area.

As these people, just like everyone else, have a right to have children and become parents, this thesis deals with how people with Asperger syndrome themselves view this issue. The theoretical part first presents a description of Asperger syndrome, how it manifests and the process of diagnosis. Then the period of adolescence and adulthood is described. Finally, the thesis deals with the issue of supporting people with Asperger syndrome. The research part states the objective of the thesis which is to find out what parenthood and family means to people with Asperger's, and whether in the Czech Republic there is any form of support offered to these people regarding parenthood and raising children. The research methods which were chosen were based upon the collection of data. Twenty semi-structured interviews with early adult men were processed by means of grounded theory. Interview questions involved the definition of family planning and seven categories were created upon that basis: the association of the concept of family planning, images of family, attitudes towards the meaning of children in life, male attitudes regarding men{\crq}s role in child care, paternity leave, contraception as well as solutions regarding fertility disorders. The chosen methodology should assess the important social influences that play a role in the attitudes of men towards family planning and the roles of men in family planning. The setting of the conditions for the beginning of reproduction should be the result of negotiation within the couple. In spite of the willingness to change parenting roles, negotiation still leads to a traditional division of these parenting roles, where the woman is a care-giver and the man is the breadwinner. Gender sensitive upbringing is a good way to give support towards the responsibility within the family planning of men and women; it leads them in equal negotiation regarding questions of parenting. The results of this thesis is the creation of a new theory about the role of men in family planning and interested researchers are to be encouraged to verify its validity by continuing in this area of research.

I chose four areas of the determination of parenthood, which can lead to various complications - assisted reproduction, surrogacy, secret childbirths and anonymous births. In the first chapter of the thesis I deal with the legal aspects of the determination of parenthood. I examine mandatory determination of maternity and various assumptions of paternity. With the development of relations in the society and of the reproductive medicine, there emerge possibilities doubting the traditional legal principles of the determination of parenthood. Mother is not always certain anymore and there are five presumptions of paternity in the Czech legal order nowadays, compared to the traditional three. The aim of this study is to compare views on parenting of partners (from a gender perspective) in families caring for children. Changes in women's position in society, their increasing financial contribution to the family budget and therefore economic background influence the opinions about the overall organization of family life, which is reflected in the actual division of parental roles and associated responsibilities. Although the paper focuses primarily on the opinions and ideas about parenting, I did not fail to devote some space also their subsequent practice. Close interaction of people who share a household and raising children, can result in blindness, which in turn creates the feeling of certain conformity of opinion. Parents can sometimes mistakenly believe that their views on parenthood are shared by their partners. In the research I have included ten couples raising two or more children. For the chosen method of semi-structured interviews, I selected respondents from my circle of acquaintances. The choice was quite deliberate, as with many of them I knew for a long time. The status of women on the labour market and motherhood The main objective of this thesis is to analyse the position of women in the labour market in selected countries representing different models of family policy. The analysed countries are the Czech Republic, France, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom. As first step, there are introduced conditions for the reconciliation of work and family life in selected countries and in the context of legislative of European Union. As second step, there are analyzed the level of fertility and the position of women in the labour market. There are also examined impacts of reconciliation of work and family not only on reducing the impact of parenthood on women's employment, but also on the level of fertility. The last part of this thesis deals with the evaluation of the respondent's opinions from International Social Survey Programme 2012 by average scores and binary logistic regression. I primarily follow feminist theories and constructivist paradigm, where the research being realized through semi-structured interviews. In the theoretical part I define the basic terms and concepts on which my work is based. I focus on the conceptualization of trans* identities, on the concept of transsexuality in the Czech medical and socio-legal discourse, as well as on their limits in terms of gender perspective. Furthermore, I present the partnership and sexual relations of trans* persons, which then lead me to parenthood itself in the context of trans * identities. Finally, I deal with the coming-out process, especially with a focus on offspring. In the theoretical part a historical concept and evolution of family, the development stateges of western family type, social and legal problems of marriage and family and the family policy in the Czech Republic are described. Also a confrontation of two concepts of a Czech family before and after the year 1989 is analyzed and discussed in this part of the dissertation. In the emirical part young generation's values and attitudes of the young people towards marriage and family are presented. A set of comparable indicators is used for the purposes of the research. The outcomes of the research are used for their comparison with the findings of the extensive research on this topic which was carried out in the past. As the informants for this study were chosen students at the age between 16-20 years studying different types of high schools.

The aim of the research study was by using the results of research to determine the factors that influenced attitudes towards marriage and parenthood among a selected group of respondents between the ages 20-35 years. To determine these effects was chosen qualitative research, method of semi-structured interview. Parenthood was planned by all participants of the research. However, the marriage wanted to join women in particular. Research has not shown the dominance of a single factor that could have a major impact on the attitudes of respondents. The most important factors were the partner's personality, family and peers. An important role was also played by finance, housing and study or employment. This diploma thesis focuses on the issue of women delaying pregnancy and parenthood to later in life. The aim of this thesis is to map out the health risks related to pregnancies in mothers who are over 35 years old, to find out the reasons for the later in life pregnancy and whether women realize the health risks associated. The thesis describes the health risks resulting from pregnancies in older women at the time of the birth and using the method of linear regression to analyze the dependence of the mother age of 35 or higher on the low birth weight of the live birth. Further, the issue of postponing pregnancy and motherhood is examined from women's point of view in more detail through the method of semistructured interviews, especially the reasons for delaying pregnancy and information about health risks. The results show that with women, who become pregnant at an older age, there is a certain increase in health risks; however, generally women are not very well informed about these complications. The importance of reproductive medicine is increasing in contemporary society in connection with the growing number of people suffering from infertility. The question of legal parenthood in connection with the issue of assisted reproduction is the core part of the diploma thesis. The diploma thesis aims to perform a legal analysis of the determination of parenthood to a child born through assisted conception, to point out possible shortcomings in legal regulation and to recommend legislative amendments from the perspective of de lege ferenda. Many changes have happened in question of family behaviour during the last decades in the Czech society. This thesis analyzes the instrument of professional parenting, with an emphasis on its possible application within the Czech system of at-risk youth care. Currently, the system of institutional and protective care and follow-up care for at-risk youth faces criticism from children's rights advocates. In some European countries and other parts of the world, professional parenting has found its permanent use as an instrument for the care of at-risk children and youth. In the Czech Republic, temporary foster care has been codified as an alternative to professional parenting; however, this concept does not have any broad application so far. In the first two chapters, the thesis defines basic terms and describes risk behaviour patterns in children and youth. The third and major chapter lists the main pillars of professional foster care, describes its forms as well as possibilities for foster recruitment, education and other characteristics. The final chapter reflects on current trends in the Czech system of care involving at-risk and vulnerable children.
