ได้ทำการศึกษาคาริโอไทป์ของปลาน้ำจืดไทยรวม 7 ชนิด โดยใช้วิธีการเพาะเลี้ยงเซลล์จากลำตัวส่วนหางของปลา (cell culture of caudal trunk) และย้อมโครโมโซมด้วยสี Giemsa ด้วยวิธีการนี้ทำให้ได้เซลล์ในระยะเมตาเฟสที่มีการกระจายตัวของโครโมโซมที่ชัดเจนดี จำนวนและรูปร่างของโครโมโซมของปลาน้ำจืดไทย 7 ชนิด เป็นดังนี้ 1. ปลากระสง (Ophicepha iucius) 2n=88 ประกอบด้วยโครโมโซมแบบ metacentric 1 คู่แบะแบบ acrocentric อีก 43 คู่ 2. ปลายี่สก (Labeo rohota) 2n=50 ประกอบด้วยโครโมโซมแบบ metacentric/submetacentric 15 คู่ และ acrocentric อีก 10 คู่ 3. ปลาไน (cyprinus carpio) 2n=100 ประกอบด้วยโครโมโซมทั้งแบบ metacentric, submet
