On the one hand, the text is cited on nearly every question of importance to medieval philology and literary studies, a practice which certainly evinces general consensus regarding the importance of the work. A la genese de principales litteratures se trouve le genre epique, recits d'aventures melees de merveilleux. L'armenie et la france n'echappent pas a cette sorte de loi. Il semble donc naturel qu'en etudiant la litterature des deux pays, on s'attache de preference aux poemes epiques.
