Abstract:
The centromere is the site of kinetochore assembly that ensures proper chromosome segregation. Active centromeres are formed at chromosomal locations that do not appear to share homology between different species; this and other analyses has lead to the conclusion that centromeres are epigenetically determined. In all organisms, centromere location is specified by the assembly of unusual nucleosomes containing the histone H3 variant CENP-A in place of H3. However, an apparent paradox is that CENP-A in most organisms generally occurs on certain preferred sequences. The analyses presented focuse

Heat stress inhibits spermatogenesis partly by inducing apoptosis in the testicular germ cells. Using a cryptochid rat model, we identified a temperature-related ESTs 4 (TRS4) transcript from rat testis. Trs4 protein is located mainly in the elongating spermatids and mature spermatozoa at the acrosome and tail regions. Using a yeat-2-hybrid screening, Trs4 was found to bind Gstmu1, Rslh-2 and Ddc8 proteins. To further characterize the functional role of Trs4 in spermatogene

Intrauterine movement restrictions cause a broad spectrum of disorders in which the unifying feature is a reduction or lack of fetal movement, giving rise to the term fetal akinesia deformations sequence (FADS [OMIM 208150]). FADS corresponds to a clinically and genetically heterogeneous constellation of properties and is characterized by multiple joint contractures, facial abnormalities, and lung hypoplasia as a result of the decreased in utero movement of the fetuses. Affected babies are often prematurely and stillborn, and

This work consists of two parts: the theoretical and the experimental. In the theoretical part, some general and some language specific theories of tense, aspect and aktionsart are presented, and the temporal systems of Swedish and Polish are compared.

The theoretical part is not a mere review of the literature on the subject. The comparison of the descriptions of aspect and aktionsart by Slavic researchers with the universal theory of Smith (1991) and (1977) and with description of aktionsart in Swedish in Teleman et al. (1999) has allowed me for some important observations as to th
