Abstract:
Roller doors are popularly used in cities due to their compact design, low cost, and ease of use. However, roller doors are made of thin metal sheets and have low inherent damping, which causes roller doors in their closed configuration to experience strong vibration when subjected to external excitations, such as wind and passing vehicles. These vibrations also result in severe noise radiation. It is therefore necessary and important to minimize the vibrations and the noise emanating from the roller doors. This research develops a novel application method to suppress the vibration of existing roller doors and to mitigate the induced noise, and the main principle is using the high damping property of viscoelastic materials through retrofit to increase the damping of the roller door. The key component of the retrofit is a viscoelastic stripe of three layers: a self-adhesive layer, a viscoelastic layer and a constraining metallic layer. The proposed method can be easily applied to the existing roller doors and has nearly no negative impact on its daily usage. To validate the feasibility of this method, shaking table tests were conducted and investigated on a roller door model with and without viscoelastic retrofit, and the experimental results demonstrate that the proposed retrofit method can effectively mitigate the vibration and therefore reduce the induced noise for an existing roller door.

Abstract:
The aim of this paper is to propose a solution that will make it possible to perform tribological tests of materials intended for rolling elements (e.g., rollers) interacting with a flat surface (e.g., sliding door guide). Tribological tests were carried out on a T-17 test stand, which was equipped with a holder that made it possible to perform tests in the roller-plate couple. The paper presents the results of tribological tests of a typical polymer PA 6 used in sliding door systems interacting with anodised and non-anodised aluminium alloys. The analysis of the tribological tests was supplemented by stereometric studies. The studies showed the possibility of performing tests for the roller-plate couple with the use of a T-17 test stand. The influence of the modification of the aluminium alloy surface (material of the sliding door guide) on tribological properties of the examined friction node was also shown.

Abstract:
The structure of high-speed roller door with water film has improved in this study. The flameproof water film system is equipped with a water circulating device to reduce the water consumption of water film system. The water film is generated at the roller box of the high-speed roller door in this study. The heating test is done with the full-scale heating furnace. Both cases of the water film on unexposed surface and water film on exposed surface passed the fire resistance test based on ISO 834, proving that the high-speed roller door with water film system has 120A fire resistance period. The main findings indicate that the water film on exposed surface shows that as the amount of water film evaporated by high temperature inside the furnace must be greater than the evaporation capacity of water film on unexposed surface, the required water supply is 660 L more than the water film on unexposed surface.

Abstract:
Four experimental trawls were made at highwater over the intertidal zone of the Minas Basin and the effects assessed when the tide was out to determine the physical and biological impacts of groundfish trawling on the benthos. The trawl doors made furrows 30–85 cm wide and up to 5 cm deep. The rollers compressed surficial sediments but did not scour a depression. The bridle caused no obvious disturbance. Door furrows and roller marks remained visible for 2–7 mo. No significant impacts were observed on either benthic diatoms or macrobenthos. The macrobenthos was dominated by polychaetes, some of which may have the ability to take evasive action as a trawl approaches. There were few molluscs, crustaceans, or echinoderms present; these taxa have been shown to be more susceptible to trawling damage in studies done elsewhere. Nematode numbers were initially depressed in the door furrows but did recover with time. It is not known whether nematodes were killed or displaced but the latter is thought more likely. Overall, the impacts in this particular environment are judged to be minor, especially since the intertidal sediments of the Minas Basin are already exposed to similar natural stresses imposed by storms and winter ice.

Abstract:
Abstract: Variable-lead spiral pair mainly includes spiral wire and spiral roller. Design of variable-lead helix firstly conforms to the motion characteristics of variable-lead screw drive and nut-connected mechanism, then comes to lead function of the variable lead helix. At the same time, according to the range of screw lead angle and pressure angle, the angular velocity of spiral wire rod and the radius of spiral wire are concluded. Finally come to the parameter equation of helix. Then, the contact analysis and lubrication characteristics of the variable-lead helical pair are analyzed to design the helical roller with the minimum contact stress and the condition of the elasto-hydrodynamic lubrication. The radius of the variable-lead helical roller and the selectable range of the bus length are obtained. Finally, an example is given to illustrate the application of the variable-lead spiral pair in the subway door system, and the optimization design of the variable-lead spiral pair is realized.

Abstract. Introduction: There is a widespread use of foam rollers in the field of rehabilitation and training. Therefore, our goal was to carry out a systematic review to determine the effectiveness of foam rollers both during warm-ups and after exercising as a means for increasing recovery. Methods: A systematic review was performed in the scientific databases Pubmed, Wos, Scopus, and PEDro from November to March 2019. The PEDro scale was used to rate the methodological quality of the studies included for review. Results: We examined 32 studies published between 2013 and 2019, which analyzed: ROM (n=19), pain through Pain Pressure Threshold (PPT) or Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), countermovement jump height (CMJ) (n=10), agility (n=4), maximal voluntary isometric contraction (MVIC) (n=4), and sprint performance (n=2). Conclusion: Despite the variability of the studies, foam rollers seem to have a positive effect on ROM, PPT, and VAS. When performance variables were analyzed (such as CMJ, MVIC, speed, and agility) there is controversy when determining if there is a significant improvement after the application of foam rollers in warm-ups or in post-exercise recovery.

Purpose: Compare the efficacy of Self-Myofascial Release with foam roller with Passive Recovery in reducing fatigue and muscle pain after simulating a basketball game in female federated athletes. Methods: Ten female basketball athletes belonging to the sub-19 and senior level, with an average age of 19,70±2,54 years, were submitted to two sessions of exercise and recovery performed with 72 hours of interval. The exercise protocol for simulating a basketball game was the Basketball Exercise Simulation Test (BEST). The type of recovery was different in each session, determined randomly. The athletes performed a 15-minute Passive Recovery or with the Foam Roller. Heart Rate (HR), Perceived Exertion through the Borg Scale, Muscular Pain through the Numerical Pain Scale and Blood Lactate Concentration were evaluated before BEST, 1 minute after BEST and 1 minute after recovery in both sessions. Results: Significant differences were observed after BEST and after recovery in all variables in both types of recovery. The exception was the Lactate Concentration that increased significantly after the BEST and decreased significantly after recovery with foam roller. Comparing the differences obtained after BEST, in both types of recovery, there were no significant differences in the Borg Scale, Muscular Pain and Lactate Concentration. However, after recovery the differences between the Borg Scale and Muscular Pain variables are significant between the two types of recovery. Conclusion: The smallest Perceived Exertion, Muscular Pain and Lactate Concentration indicate that the foam roller recovery may be more effective in relation to passive recovery.

This dissertation is organized in two articles: a theoretical article and an empirical article. The theoretical article focus on the phenomenon of somatization and the importance of the maternal role in establishing the preconscious of the individual and his capacity of symbolization and trauma development, reflecting onthe connection among the recurrent somatic disorders. Its theoretical reference is theFrench School of Psychosomatics, emphasizing Pierre Marty’s approach and some of hisprincipal concepts. The empirical article focuses on women life stories who have recurrent somatics complaints. It is a qualitative exploratory research with multiple casestudies that aims to understand the participants perspective in relation to their life stories and somatic symptomatology. Its theoretical reference is the French School of Psychosomatics, emphasizing Pierre Marty’s approach, also discussing the issues of parental bonding and narrativity. The Mini Mental Test, the Toronto Alexithymia Scale – TAS 26, the Parental Bonding Instrument and the Life Stories Interviews are used to develop the researchinvestigation. The results found point to the similarities in the parental bonds, responsibilities overload, trauma experience, grief and impoverished speech. One of the participants, despite have responded to the selection criteria, revealed histrionic traits, waving to the possibility of a conversive crisis or a themporary psychosomatic disorganization which ultimately enrich the questions around the issue, including the possibilities of misunderstanding thecomprehension of the symptoms.

Abstract:
Background: Organ donation and transplantation has made it possible to both save lives and also improve the quality of life for a large number of people. In recent years there has been a large gap between the need for organs and the availability of organ donors. Intensive care nurses have a responsibility to ensure that potential donors are identified and highlighted in the intensive care unit. Caring for a potential donor and meet relatives is a challenge and requires both knowledge and experience of intensive care nurses. Aim: To show how intensive care nurses perceive their expertise regarding the care of a donor and the hospitality of relatives during the donation process in the intensive care unit. Method: The study was conducted with a qualitative approach through semi-structured interviews with ten intensive care nurses. Data were analyzed using a qualitative latent content analysis. Results: It was important that the intensive care nurses responded to both the donor and family members in a professional manner, but also responding to donors with dignity and respect and to be sensitive and show empathy towards their families. They experienced difficulties when the donor's wishes are not known, the treatment was time-consuming, getting families to understand their loved one has died. Some intensive care nurses brought up a point of view which could increase the numbers of donations. All intensive care nurses felt that they had enough knowledge to take care of a donor but being up to date and training is always needed. Debriefing or conversation was also something else that was raised which most felt was important not to bring work home. Conclusion: The study identified deficiencies in the donation care but with more training and guidelines this could be improved. The study has also contributed to greater understanding and knowledge surrounding the donation process in intensive care unit. This is which the authors believed to be useful in their future profession as intensive care nurses, but also the results of the study can be useful to other intensive care unit in Sweden.

The purpose of this research is to investigate the heat resistance property of a water-film-covered steel roller door by means of a fire test in a standard large scale 3m × 3m door/wall refractory furnace. Based on the CNS 14803 standard, a 3m × 3m specimen was constructed and was sprayed by water mist nozzles to form a water film on the specimen. The water film could absorb a great amount of heat because of the high specific heat and latent heat of water, and thus enhanced the heat resistant performance of the steel roller door. It has been shown that the vertical distance and horizontal distance of the nozzles to the roller door influenced the water film integrity. By carefully adjusting these distances and the pressure of the water pump, a complete coverage of the water film on the roller door could be achieved. The fire test in the large scale door/wall refractory furnace then followed. The fire test results showed that the temperature curve of the furnace basically conformed to the CNS 14803 heating curve; but in some time intervals, exceeded the latter. It was found that some of the temperature test points on the right-hand side of the roller door went over the CNS 14803 specified value. The reason was that the steel roller door, during the fire test, exhibited a certain degree of thermal deformation, which affected the integrity of water coverage. Furthermore, due to the thermal deformation, some sprayed water entered the roller box, creating temperature fluctuations. In contrast, the left-hand side of the roller door had full water coverage and the temperature maintained around 100o C. The fire test confirmed that if the roller door has a full water film coverage, the surface temperature can be controlled to fulfill the requirements of the CNS 14803 standard. Furthermore, if the strength of the connecting parts of the steel roller door are improved to reduce thermal deformation, the present method of enhancing the heat resistant property by applying a water film on the steel roller door is feasible.

This study used the two-dimensional finite element analysis (2-D FEA) software Maxwell 2D to analyze the electromagnetic field and performance characteristics of an elevator-door-roller motor. The primary purpose of this study was to reduce the cogging torque. These cogging torque reducing methods are discussed in this study. These methods included the fractional-slot winding, optimal pole arc coefficient, permanent magnet arc suppression, stator chute, skew rotor pole, magnet pole shifting, magnet pole segment dislocation, dummy slot and slot opening width. The secondary purpose was to improve the efficiency and reduce the torque ripple of the motor. The multi-objective optimization analysis was conducted after the three design objectives have met the needs of the manufacturers. First, this study determined the design objectives and the number of design factors. The design factors that have a higher degree of impact on the design objectives were obtained through the regression analysis by R language. The suitable orthogonal array was selected. Then the correlation degree was defined between -1 to +1 by the extension theory. The multi-objective optimization design parameters were derived by applying the concepts of the extension theory and the mean value analysis of Taguchi method. Finally, the 2-D FEA was applied to analyze the prototype and optimal structures, and verify whether they meet the design specifications.

The purpose of technology development is not only to enhance quality but also to create high value for human life. Technical functions are highly valued in the operation of modern technology, at the same time, safety should also be considered. For example, electrical steel rolling doors has become a necessity in factories, warehouses and garages in terms of life safety and property protection. In recent years, the disordered motor function of electrical steel rolling doors has caused many financial losses or labor damages. The study therefore researches on the safety mechanics for the electrical steel rolling doors, including a down- rolling safety device and a up-rolling safety dive to provide protection in case the motor is out of order in rolling up and down. Moreover, a wire safety device is equipped on the pulley to ensure the cable smoothly moving on the track. The feasibility of the proposed system is also tested to provide more convenient and safe electrical steel rolling doors for industrial application.

Abstract:
JEL classification: G34, G39.
Scholars and practitioners widely accept that spectacular corporate failures and the misuse of managerial power significantly contributed to the rising prominence of the subject of corporate governance and the boards of directors. Triggered by shareholder activism and aiming to solve the governance failures, corporate governance reformists, embodying the shareholder primacy model, have attempted to unify corporate governance mechanisms and practices. Formal regulations and policies are necessary, but they are not enough to fully understand effective governance. Scholars recognise that reforms are contributing to increasing the gap between what firms expect boards of directors to do and what they are actually doing, instead of bridging the difference between board role expectations and actual board role reality and, consequently, affecting board performance. Before normalizing the boards of directors, it is needed to describe and before describing it is needed to observe them in action. So far, academicians have not been able to empirically confirm that boardroom reforms will lead to more effective boards and ultimately positively affect corporate performance. As social actors we all have biased views, as do boardroom members, thus it is necessary to analyse directors’ perceptions about their role in order to understand if they are aligned and acting accordingly. Ultimately, the research goal is to understand what is, in fact, directors’ role and contribution. Previous research has not thoroughly explored the gap between what companies expect from the boards’ tasks (boards’ role) and their contribution (what the boards actually do). Thus, this survey examines the role and contribution of boards through their own perception, bridging the gap between board role expectations and actual board role reality. In so doing the study sheds light on the board’s real contribution and, ultimately its contribution to board effectiveness. Through a survey-based method, the author requested that board members from Portuguese listed firms rate the Chairman, the Board, the Senior Independent Director and the CEO performance, through their own perceptions. The survey draws three key conclusions: first, there are, generally, many inconsistencies around the board role boundaries between the chairman and the CEO and, particularly, around their strategic involvement. Second, tensions arise from the way this relationship evolves affecting both teams (the executive and non-executive directors) and third, there is an absence of a clear picture of the board’s role regarding its strategic involvement. This study, whilst exploring and understanding directors and their interactions inside the boardroom in a non-Anglo-American context, contributes to opening the ‘black-box’ of board dynamics, thus ‘dismantling the fortress’ in boards of directors studies. Additionally, whilst entailing ‘what is’ knowledge about the role and contribution of the corporate apex decision-making group, the study leads to the overarching and painful (but absolutely needed) reflection about the pivotal boards’ role as shapers of the ever changing business society relationship.

Abstract:
Abstract Microbes are omnipresent, yet their interactions with invasive plants remain understudied. This is surprising, given the importance of microbes in plant community ecology and their influence on plant performance in new environments. Recent advances in molecular genetic approaches have opened the door to studying this unseen majority in great detail and to understand how they fit into ecological interaction networks. Molecular approaches allow rapid assessments of microbial diversity at reasonable cost while providing both taxonomic and evolutionary information. Here I discuss how these approaches have contributed to a better understanding of plant-microbial interactions in the context of biological invasions. By drawing insights from various case studies, I illustrate how next-generation sequencing (DNA barcoding) has revolutionized the way we understand such interactions. Tight-knit and coevolved mutualist (e.g. mycorrhizal) and antagonist (e.g. pathogen) interactions appear particularly promising to understand the structure and function of invasive plant-microbial interaction networks, the impacts of invasive plants on native networks and the vulnerability of native networks to infiltration by non-native species. I also discuss novel ways in which molecular data can aid the study of invasive plant-microbial interactions, such as incorporating phylogenetic data into network analyses to better understand the role of evolutionary history in network dynamics and how such dynamics respond to plant invasions. DNA barcoding of microbes also presents unique challenges to the study of network ecology, such as uncertainty in the legitimacy and efficiency of interactions. Future research should incorporate overall plant-associated microbial communities (microbiomes) into interaction networks to better understand the role microbes play during plant invasions.

Abstract:
AbstractConnecting people with nature is a powerful concept that opens doors for relationship building and conservation messaging. The roles of wild animals in the city (e.g., in zoos and aquariums) and how we interact with them—and vice versa—must evolve along with our theoretical discussions and animal management practices in order to advance the field. While taking into consideration the long history of animals in captivity, where we are today, and were we should go in the future, this chapter reviews animal welfare and its ethical frameworks, human-animal interactions and its effect on both animals and people, wildness in zoos and how we perceive different states of origin, compassionate education programs and their efforts to instil empathy and empower people to become agents of change, and the power of modern technology in providing real connections with artificial means. In this ever-changing world, living responsibly together has never been more important.

Abstract:
This article explores how sustainable health can be encouraged through the role of socialization amongst the youth in Malaysia in the context of the decision-making process towards becoming an organ donor. This is imperative for the nation especially the policymaker and health business sector in designing strategies pertaining to health issues. The concept of the ‘duality of structure' is used as a starting point to link between health sustainability and health communication on organ donation in congregating intergenerational equity by uncovering the structural properties or conditions which either enable or constrain the future of health initiatives. Therefore, this article is aimed to focus on the values and norms commonly transferred by the socialization agents regarding the behavioral development of the potential donor. Data was gathered using self-administered questionnaires from 162 youth. The findings illustrate that the supportive influence from agents of socialization affected towards certain degree on the behavioral formation on becoming an organ donor.

This chapter compares Esther Lederberg’s role with that of other notable women scientists whose achievements exhibited creative laboratory skills. Esther’s career peaked in 1956 when the Society of Illinois Bacteriologists jointly bestowed the Pasteur Medal on the Lederberg couple. Usually, Joshua Lederberg was the public face of their research program. Esther’s place was behind the laboratory doors where she managed the lab and performed the experiments. For over a hundred years, this was the typical arrangement for women and their male associates. Prestigious faculty positions and accolades were unattainable for so many women in science. For Esther and many of her female colleagues, the thrill of discovery was enough reward. Esther valued the camaraderie of the brilliant personalities that made up the circle of pioneering researchers. Stanley Falkow called her a kind of Boswell of bacterial genetics. Her extensive photographic collection is a who’s who of molecular biology, many as their younger selves.

This chapter also tackles how to build power under challenging conditions. It analyzes the case of home health care, which stands outside New Deal labor laws and is one of the largest and fastest-growing low-wage occupations. Building on decades of organizing, persistent political action, and mobilization with clients, home-care workers' unions won legislative battles enabling states to take on the role of employer and winning the right to engage in collective bargaining. But anti-union groups are now aggressively encouraging union disaffiliation through door-to-door campaigns, though home-care unions are fighting back. A critical component is deep member training and education, including “leadership academies” to cultivate workers' political education and skills. This chapter is a reminder that members make the union—with or without state recognition.

Abstract Model tests have been performed to examine the overtrawlability of Subsea7’s Subsea Production Unit (SPU) in SINTEF Ocean’s Ocean Laboratory in November/December 2017. In this test campaign, 50 tests with different SPU orientations and trawling equipment were carried out. Two trawling water depth (100 m and 500 m) were simulated in the model test. Two types of trawl door, i.e. Thyborøn (5.5t) and Poly Ice (3.8t), with Selstad No. 620 type fishing net were used in present test. Overtrawling with a roller clump (7.6t) was also tested. Two trawling speeds of 1.6 m/s and 2.6 m/s and 5 SPU orientations were examined. Force measurements both on the fishing lines, and directly measured on the SPU were used to determine overtrawlability of the SPU. The dynamometer used in present test to measure the forces directly on the SPU is the first time that this type of measurement has been undertaken at SINTEF Ocean at the Ocean Basin facility with fully modelled trawling gear.

Abstract:
Vehicle door latch minimum force capability testing presently utilizes uniaxial quasi-static loading conditions created toward the middle of the last century. Current technology enables more sophisticated virtual testing of a broad range of systems. Door latch failures have been observed in vehicles under a variety of conditions. Typically these conditions involve multiple axis loading conditions. The loading conditions presented during rollovers on passenger vehicle side door latches are not currently evaluated. Background on these conditions is reviewed. Rollover crash test results, rollover crashes and physical FMVSS 206 latch testing are reviewed. In this paper, the creation and validation of a passenger vehicle door latch model is described. The multi-axis loading conditions observed in virtual rollover testing at the latch location are characterized. These loads are then applied to the virtual testing of a latch in both the secondary and primary latch positions. The results are then compared with crash test and real world rollover results for the same latch. The results indicate that while a door latch in the secondary latch position may meet minimum existing uniaxial horizontal plane loading requirements, the incorporation of multi-axis loading conditions may result in failure of the latch to accomplish its intended purpose at loads substantially below the FMVSS 206 uniaxial failure loads. The findings suggest the need for reexamining the relevance of existing door latch testing practices in light of the prevalence of rollover impacts and other impact conditions in today’s vehicle fleet environment.

Abstract:
Recent research by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on developing an ejection mitigation standard, Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 226, has led to an increased focus on occupant retention in the rollover accident mode. Research has long shown the benefits of keeping occupants contained in the vehicle as their risk of fatality increases five fold when they are ejected [1]. While restraint use, restraint performance and vehicle structural integrity are all components in occupant containment, the vehicle’s glazing system is the most likely component to fail in a rollover accident. Vehicle glazing failure usually creates large portals in the vehicle structure through which occupants can be ejected. The subject paper reviews previous work regarding testing and analysis of laminated automotive glazing and expands upon those studies with the presented high speed rotational testing. The performed study includes seven controlled, multirevolution tests of a partial sport utility vehicle (SUV) occupant compartment test fixture rotated about a fixed, longitudinal axis. The front doors of the fixture were modified by replacing the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) tempered glazing with High Penetration Resistant (HPR) annealed laminated glazing. Additionally, one of the door window frames was expanded and reinforced with an additional outboard sheet metal flange. Unrestrained Hybrid III 50th percentile male ATDs were placed in the front seating positions and rotated at roll rates of up to 644 degrees per second. ATD kinematics and interactions with the front window glazing were recorded and analyzed. When the laminated glazing did not fracture during early test sequences, the glazing was pre-fractured and re-tested under similar conditions. Under all test conditions, the laminated side window glazing was shown to contain the ATD.

Abstract:
Abstract Destructive testing of commercial automotive movable laminated side glass was conducted to document the occupant retention characteristics of this glazing system in quarter-roll crashes with a prolonged slide distance. That is, in some overturns a vehicle will slide to a halt on its side with a window adjacent both to an occupant’s position and to the moving roadway. It is known by field experience that this situation can result in injurious ejection of the occupant through the adjacent window if the window is constructed of tempered glass and the window has fractured. When tempered glass fractures, the window disintegrates and fully opens the portal. With the laminated side glazing that is used on some passenger vehicles, fracture of the inboard and outboard glass plies will not necessarily cause the “sandwiched” PVB interlayer to be compromised. This PVB interlayer allows the glass plies to remain in place and resist the sliding interaction. This diminishes the ejection hazard that is associated with tempered side glass. The three drag tests described within this technical paper used a single model of sport utility vehicle driver’s position door and factory installed laminated side door glass. The testing replicated the interaction of the exterior surface of the laminated glass against the moving roadway while the glazing was pre-fractured and the interior glass ply was subjected to significant simulated occupant loading. These conditions ensured contact of the exterior glass ply against the moving abrasive roadway. The detached and slightly modified driver’s door was pulled at near highway speed over a substantial distance against abrasive asphalt, simulating a rollover accident with the side of the vehicle sliding to halt. The results of these tests show that the exterior surface of the glazing, primarily consisting of the hard ceramic SiO2, is sufficiently wear resistant and durable to wear but not rupture or pull out of the peripheral channel. This testing shows that laminated glass is the superior glazing material for this accident mode from an occupant containment perspective.

Abstract:
This current study was performed to investigate the performance difference between production tempered side glazing and modern heat-strengthened laminated glass when tested with a controlled one-quarter roll where the door-mounted rearview mirror was targeted to pre-fracture the glazing. Then push out and abuse impact demonstrations were conducted on the glazing. The results of the demonstration were observed and photographed. Only unmodified, commercial glazing was used in windows that were retained in a vehicle-mounted, framed driver’s door. The testing indicates that by using laminated glass, occupant retention can be realized, significantly lowering the potential for partial or full ejection and their associated heightened injury risk.

Abstract:
We have developed and used a repeatable roof strength survey tool to assess the force resistance characteristics of over 50 passenger car, SUV, pickup, and van roofs. In a rollover, the initial roof-to-ground contact typically fractures and/or separates the vehicle’s bonded windshield. Subsequent trailing-side roof-to-ground impacts apply lateral forces to the roof and its support pillars. In 1971 the National Highway Safety Bureau (NHSB) recognized this rollover sequence and proposed a Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) that tested both sides of the roof in sequence. Our repeatable roof strength survey tool uses a hydraulic cylinder to pull the upper A-pillar, roof rail, windshield header intersection toward the rear of the opposite front door sill imitating the proposed 1971 test, but at a more realistic roll angle. It is used first on one side of the vehicle with the windshield intact before being repositioned on the other side after the fractured and separated windshield is removed and the test repeated. Tests on three vehicles of the same make, model, and model year have validated the repeatability of the test and protocol. Results from all the vehicles demonstrate that in the first side test, the strength of the roof is typically about half the strength recorded in a typical FMVSS 216 test, a further decrease in force resistance occurs after the windshield has failed, and similar elastic restoration of the deformed structure occurs on both sides.

Abstract:
Violent extremism has a trauma problem. Psychological trauma plays a role in the genesis, perpetration, and resolution of violent extremism. Despite evidence attesting to the positive effects of trauma-informed rehabilitation programs and trauma recovery support for armed combatants and criminal offenders, there has been limited donor interest or coordinated policy effort to meaningfully integrate trauma recovery into the design of rehabilitation and reintegration of violent extremists specifically. Research in global mental health confirms trauma is not only relevant to the emergence of violent extremism but is also a consequence of participation in violent extremism. While there is a general dearth of data on the psychobiological markers of trauma among extremist populations specifically, the limited data we have from child recruits, as well as from other conflict-affected populations calls for a more prominent role of psychological rehabilitation and trauma recovery in the reintegration of violent extremists.

This highlights the need of providing the right information in the right form to meet the end users need. The above case studies have shown the need for consistent and harmonised future climate projections that are country specific. According to a study undertaken in Tanzania and Malawi, understanding the likely future characteristics of climate risk is a key component of adaptation and climate-resilient planning, but given future uncertainty it is important to design approaches that are strongly informed by local considerations and robust to uncertainty. According to the findings from the research, policy incoherence, over-reliance on donor funding, change in leadership roles is a barrier to adaptation. There is also an urgent need for mechanisms for sharing experience and learning from methodologies, technologies, and challenges. Further, Stakeholder dialogue and iterative climate service processes need to be facilitated. This review also explores approaches to communicating climatic uncertainties with decision-makers. Particularly, presentation of data using slide-sets, and stories about possible futures.

Abstract:
The relatively recent emergence and sustained rise of social protection as a policy agenda in Africa can be understood as either a nationally owned or ‘donor-driven’ process. While elements of both can be seen in different countries at different times, this paper focuses on the pivotal role of transnational actors, specifically international development agencies, as ‘policy pollinators’ for social protection. These agencies deployed a range of tactics to induce African governments to implement cash transfer programmes and establish social protection systems, including: (1) building the empirical evidence base that cash transfers have positive impacts, for advocacy purposes; (2) financing social protection programmes until governments take over this responsibility; (3) strengthening state capacity to deliver social protection, through technical assistance and training workshops; (4) commissioning and co-authoring national social protection policies; (5) encouraging the domestication of international social protection law into national legislation. Despite these pressures and inducements, some governments have resisted or implemented social protection only partially and reluctantly, either because they are not convinced or because their political interests are not best served by allocating scarce resources to cash transfer programmes. This raises questions about the extent to which the agendas of development agencies are aligned or in conflict with national priorities, and whether social protection programmes and systems would flourish or wither if international support was withdrawn.
